DNS canonical name

Hello sir
We use OEL5.4 Bind as our dns server for some purpose.Now we recquire to add two canonical names to it.I configured two canonical name with same host.That means example1.acoladeaus.com is resolved through server1.acoladeaus.com and example2.acoladeaus.com is also resolved through server1.acoladeaus.com.Now We can ping with only one canonical name named example1.acoladeaus.com.When pinging with example2.acoladeaus.com,it doesnt. Could you please help me on this issue. Thanks in advance.

To begin, let's see what your DNS is returning. On a machine that can ping example1 but not example2, please do:

Getaddrinfo function returns IPv4-mapped IPv6 addresses in canonical name

When I use the getaddrinfo function with flag AI_CANONNAME, then in ai_canonname IPv4-mapped IPv6 addresses is returned even for IPV6 disabled machine.
So my question is that from where this canonical name is returned, I didn't found in /etc/nodename /etc/hosts or in /etc/inet/hosts or in /etc/interfacefile files.

It's only showing "unknown" for the IPv6 address.
Go into your IPv6 properties, and set the IP and DNS address settings to be obtained automatically.
Then in Manage network adapters windows, change the view options to show Menu, then click on Advanced, Advanced, and make sure IPv4 is on top instead of IPv6.

DNS Domain name ISE 1.2

Question: Can the DNS domain name in ISE 1.2 be differnt from the AD domain that ISE is joined to?
Situation: I have an internal AD domain 'mydomain.local'. Currently ISE is setup with mydomain.local as it's dns domain it's FQDN is isebox.mydomain.local, it is also joined to that domain. The problem comes with the certificate for HTTPS sites (management, guest, etc...) specifically guest. If I use a certificate for isebox.mydomain.local, guest users (that do not have our internal ca) will get a certificate error. The certificate used for HTTPS sites in ISE has to match the hostname of ISE. This seems to me to be an unresolvable problem. I have to have mydomain.local as the DNS domain, so that I can join ISE to mydomain.local. But if I use that domain then I can't issue a public cert for the ISE box, because I can't get a public cert for a .local domain.
My idea was to define the DNS domain as a public domain (abc123.com) but still join it to my internal domain (mydomain.local). I have found some vauge references to this not being a supported configuration, and even that it doesn't work at all. Could someone please tell me if this works? Or better yet, some better/easer way to solve this prolem.

Cisco ISE supports integration with a single Active Directory identity source. Cisco ISE uses this Active Directory identity source to join itself to an Active Directory domain. If this Active Directory source has a multidomain forest, trust relationships must exist between its domain and the other domains in order for Cisco ISE to retrieve information from all domains within the forest.
However, you may create multiple instances for LDAP. Cisco ISE can communicate via LDAP to Active Directory servers in an untrusted domain. The only limitation you would see with LDAP being a database that it doesn't support PEAP MSCHAPv2 ( native microsoft supplicant). However it does suppport EAP-TLS.

DNS Host name problem

Hi, I am a newbie to AS. Nice to join the family and meet u all.
I got some problem during installation of AS 2005Q2, when I install and select 'Config Now' option, I cannot pass since the DNS hostname always fail.
If I select 'Config Later', I will find something is missing, like asadmin tool is not avaiable.
Since I will use the Ip only, can I disable or bypass the DNS host name? since no matter how I enter it always fail.
Please advise, thank you very much in advance. :)

TREX Patch Installation ERROR - DNS Domain Name

Dear all,
I have been facing a problem with a TREX Installation and I would like to request your help.
After successfully installing a portal (EP 7) and a TREX instance (7.00), I encountered the following error
while trying to install the TREX patch.
The Error that pops-up is the following:
"unknown message ID (osmod.hosts.getHostByAddress2) with parameter(s): -84.-230.-250.114".
This error appears when the installation reaches the 'DNS Domain Name' step.
The installation cannot procceed without resolving this issue.
I have been trying to install patch 49, which I have successfully installed in other TREX instances so there
should be no error with the binaries.
Has anyone come across a similar situation?
I would appreciate your input on the matter

The issues that I have encountered where unrelated, otherwise I would have mentioned them for you as a clue
But what I was trying to say is that although sometimes prerequisites look OK there can be a bug or exception in the SAP coding that might cause this. Examples of these non-related issues are:
- https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1114042
and
- when using the KM Portal Drive with a description that is "to long" connection is suddenly not possible.
I therefore advise you to open an OSS message @ SAP Support.

SAP NetWeaver DNS Domain Name System for SAP?

Hi all,
I need to install SAP Netweaver 7:01 SR1 ABAP Trial Version.
I use Microsoft Windows XP.
During the installation process asks the DNS Domain Name System for SAP.
What should I put in this field?
Following is the result of ipconfig:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix....:

Subnet Mask..................................: 255.255.255.0

The name of my machine is solaris.
In the host file put the following:

Dns domain name change

I have just change the DNS domain name of my ISE from CLI and restarted the appliance (its a 3395 appliance)
However,, when i log in via GUI it doesnt reflect the new dns name.
Any ideas please?

let's see my task as follows;
1.change ip domain-name =xxx
2.ISE will ask you to restart app service then answer yes
3. i make "write memory"
4. i reload the ise
you choose check the dns name in forward zone and reverse zone too.

What is the canonical name of icloud applet for windows?

Hi, I am trying to determing the canonical name of the icloud applet for windows. Does anyone know it?

To expound a bit, within win7 control panel sits "iCloud". I am attempting to hide the applet from being visible in control panel using group policy editor. No big deal really, the hard part is determining the cononical name. I have tried it in ways akin to other names, but no dice. Here are some samples:

Drive Map GPO and Item-Level targeting using DNS Computer Name not working as expected

I've run into a snag trying to move from logon script based drive mappings, to a GPO based Drive map solution and I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on the problem that I am seeing. We started down the GPO based drive mappings because we have
a handful of Windows 8 client computers which don't run the logon script based drive mappings.
I put together a basic Drive Maps GPO. I'm mapping 3 drives, I've linked the GPO to a computer container OU for testing and everything is working just fine. I have 3 different Windows 8 client PC, all domain joined, and all 3 run the GPO as
expected.
The problem is when I attempt to apply Item-level targeting. I've found that if I define item-level targeting to use the NetBIOS name of the computer, I can either apply the GPO at an individual computer level, or I can exclude the GPO for that individual
computer by toggling between IS and IS NOT. However, when I choose to define the computer name by choosing the DNS option, the GPO does not apply as expected.
So, if I say "the DNS computer name is example1.mydomain.com" and I apply the GPO, it applies to example1, example2 and example3. And if I instead say, "the DNS computer name is not example1.mydomain.com", then it doesn't apply
to example1, example2 or example3. Obviously, I would expect it to apply or not apply only to example1.mydomain.com.
If instead, I say "the NetBIOS computer name is example1", and apply the GPO, then example1 gets it, and example2 and example3 do not. If I say, "the netBIOS name is not example 1", then example1 does NOT get the drive mapping,
but example 2 and example3 do. < This is exactly what I want and I can continue to just use NetBIOS names...but I don't understand why DNS isn't working in the same manner.
My clients are all using DHCP and using domain controllers for DNS. All 3 machines are in the mydomain.com namespace. The mydomain.com namespace is an active directory integrated zone. We have reverse zones in place for the dns records.
I can ping the machines from the DC's as well as the machines themselves. I can run nslookup and resolve the computer name for each host using the FQDN. I can also run a ping -a IP_ADDY and get the FQDN back. The DC's themselves are
running Server 2008 R2. I honestly don't see any issues from a name resolution standpoint on the network itself.
So, any suggestions as to why defining the shortened NetBIOS name works just fine, but using DNS with a FQDN does not? (I've tried the DNS name using just the name, the name., as well as name.mydomain.com and name.mydomain.com.)

I have got a problem with class casting. Some years ago I comitted the error not to bundle my classes in packages and now I need to do so. Unfortunately I can't deserialize previously saved objects from files anymore using ObjectInputstream, I get a ClassNotFoundException.

} Finding out their serialVersionID and make it explicit does not help either, so I created a copy of the class to deserialize in a package, since I need to reference to the class, and left anotherone in the default package.
My problem now is that I can deserialize the objects, but cannot cast the object from the file to the type of the class in the package.

at all.Well, yes and no. The program implicitly executes a conversion on reading the file. Once you save it, it's in the new format (and thus unreadable for the old program). I do not want to provide a static conversion at installation time, because the customer, hopefully, backups data in the old format. He would not be able to read it after restoring data or, if there was something like a conversion function or program, would find it annoying having to think about it. In the end, they asked me to write the program for keeping it as simple as possible :-)
I'm quite happy about the way it works now; the new cast-methods enable me to change the data types interfaces without having to bother about anything. ;-)

One of the very common disadvantage of the BDC is that it doesnt take into account the configuration settings of the screen. Suppose you make any changes in the screen fields (e.g. you make some of the fields in the screen non editable or you make the fields invisible), in this case BDC will throw an error message beacuse the screen mentioned will now no more contain that field or the field will now no more will be an input field.
If at all there is change in the screen settings or transaction look and feel is changed or screen manouvering is changed in the transaction then the BDC will fail and will give error messages.
This is the major disadvantage of using a BDC

Different DNS domain name

We have an architecture compose of two gateways and one portal/profile server, the are all respondig under the same DNS domain name, "domainname.ca". The client is looking to installed a third gateway under a different DNS domain name "newdomainname.com", but want to use the same portal/profile server.
Is this possible, if so how?

Try to edit the unknown server. After this click "Resolve". Your IP address will appear.
Click OK and now your server will have an associated IP address.
