DNS/DHCP Management Console doesn't start

Folks,
I am running the DNS/DHCP Management Console in an old Windows XP Pro SP2 computer, and it works fine. But when I install it in my XP Pro SP3 computer it refuses to start. It stucks at the welcome screen with the globe animation and doesn't go any further. And there is also no apparent program or process to kill in the Task Manager, and the CPU util is zero. I have to log out and back in again to get rid of the welcome screen.
I am wondering if it may have something to do with the Java Runtime Environment (JRE)? I am using the latest version in my SP3 machine, where it doesn't work, and a much older version in my SP2 machine, where it works. I have not upgraded Java in that machine because I am afraid that the Management Console might stop working... If Java is the source of the problem, is it impossible to get it to work with a newer Java?
PJ

I wrote a TID on this, but it hasn't shown up yet. It is TID 7016049
As I am still waiting for it to show up on the public site, I will populate the resolution portion of the TID here. Hope it helps:
Despite uninstalling all older versions of Java, a remnant of the old install still exists. The offending file is javaw.exe, but there may also be a java.exe in the same location.
In the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory there may be a javaw.exe and java.exe from a previous installation. Check the properties > details tab of the file to confirm the version. If this javaw.exe is found first then Windows is directed to look in the wrong location in the registry for the Java Runtime Environment key. Once removed the javaw.exe from C:\Program Files\Java\JRE1.8.0_25\bin directory is found, which sends Windows down the correct path to find the necessary key in the registry.
Once the older version of javaw.exe is removed, the JMC should load.
The SysWOW64 directory is for 64-bit machines. If this error is being encountered on a 32 bit machine, then the superfluous javaw.exe must be found and removed. Process Monitor for Windows can be downloaded and utilized to track down the superfluous javaw.exe. As the java.exe is also superfluous, we recommend removing it to (or copy it out to a backup directory until testing is complete).

  • Viewing Dynamic Leases Under The DNS/DHCP Management Console

My dhcp-server is on oes2 sp3 / sles 10 sp3 and i am trying to set it up for viewing dynamic leases in the DNS/DHCP Management Console.
I am following TID 7006450 and right away i get stuck.
    From the TID
    1. Launch the DNS/DHCP management console and login to the server
    2. Click on the 'DHCP (OES Linux) tab toward the top of the console
    3. Find the DHCP Server object at the bottom of the console and select it
    4. Toward the top-right hand side of the console select the GENERAL tab and find the section called DHCP SERVER
---- There is no section called DHCP SERVER only Services
    5. Click the ADD button and enter the IP address of the DHCP server
NOTE: If doing this step on OES 2 SP 2 the buttons may be greyed out. This is due to the schema not being extended. This option is officially supported on OES 2 SP 3
---- There is no ADD button
    6. Click on the SAVE button toward the top, left-hand side of the console (looks like a floppy disk)
---- There is no SAVE button
I have downloaded the latest DNS/DHCP Management Console Version OES2 SP2 october 2009
Is ther a newer version to download

course no idea how your two systems differ. A Service Request (SR) with
Novell is always an option to work on this but it'd be useful to know what
your system showed when it wouldn't start dhcpd.
    Good luck.

  • DNS/DHCP Managment Console- IP Addresses not releasing

    Hello,
I have added a new subnet on our network so we can add more wireless devices (iPads, Cellphones, etc. are all now needing IP addresses)
Everything is working fine except that the addresses are not releasing after 3 days. If someone with a Laptop comes into our building with a cell phone or laptop they are picking up an IP address automatically. Then once they leave (and the 3 day lease time expires) DNS/DHCP is not making that address available for another device.
Now we are quickly running out of local IP addresses on this new subnet. How can I get DNS/DHCP management console to hand out previously used expired IP addresses to new devices?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
No we haven't run out yet so that my very well be the case.
We do have two subnets in the same building .30 subnet and .32 subnet
They both work, and any client can pickup an IP on either subnet.
The .30 subnet was the old one and the .32 subnet has just been created. Now all new clients pickup an address on the .32 subnet.
Is there any way to figure out why all the clients want to pull a .32 address now?
    Thanks

  • Communication between the DNS/DHCP Manager and OES Server

No communication between the DNS/DHCP Manager Console and OES server (status, start, stop)
The screenshot shows the tab "DHCP (OES Linux)" in the DNS / DHCP Manager console
in the bottom of the image it shows the state of the DHCP servers.
    allDHCP.JPG
The dhcp service is started on all these servers
You can see that the status is known only for four servers.
The button "start/stop DHCP service" works fine on this servers and
the dhcp service can be canceled and also restarted
But the status of the "dhcp service" is not recognized for all the other DHCP servers
and so we can not start or stop dhcp service on these servers.
All servers were installed at different times (last three years) with OES11 and
are upgraded to OES11SP2 with all patches.
The server keto (DHCP_keto) is a new installation OES11SP2 few days ago.
All OES servers were set up identically from me. LDAP, LUM, DMS, DHCP works fine.
Which service on the OES server is responsible for
communication (status indicator) between the DNS/DHCP Manager and the OES serve?
How the status query is performed by the DNS/DHCP Manager?
How can I test the communication to the server on the client (console)?
Which configurationfiles I should be compare on the server?
    Thanks in advance

  • Enterprise Manager Console does not start on Win 2000 Pro

I have installed Oracle 9i Release 2 Enterprise Manager on Win 2000 Professional. But the Enterprise Manager console does not start. Also the EM Configuration Assistant does not start.
I have installed many times, but it is never successfull.
I was installing Enterprise Edition -> General Purpose database.
Tried the following from command prompt:
    oemapp.bat I get this message : "Usage: oemapp <application_name>"
oemapp consoleI get : "bad command or file name"
oemapp console oem.loginmode=standaloneI get : "bad command or file name"
Is there any post installation configurations that need to be done?
When I read thru the oemapp.bat, "Usage: oemapp <application_name>" was under the jreSetup module.
    Under C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre I have the folders with following Names(versions) 1.1.8 and 1.3.1.
    In the environment variable also I have C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin and C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin
Could some one help me with this.
    Thanks,
    Aruna

    Marcus,
Is your machine connected to a Novell network? If so, edit the oemapp.bat file and change every reference of Windows_NT to WINNT. The issue is Novell does not set the Windows_NT variable, and uses the WINNT variable instead.

  • Comments in DNS/DHCP Java console not editable after SP2

Upgraded to OES11 SP2 (on SLES11 SP3) and now when using the DNS/DHCP Java console (Win 64) we get the following error when attempting to edit or create a comment for a host: "This functionality is not supported in this version of OES DHCP Server"
Is it correct that we can not use the comments field any more? no note of that as a change in the docs...
    Thanks for any assistance.

    oracle version = 10.1.0.5
    OS platform = AIX node1 3 5 00C5116E4C00

Hm... could be that your machine is low on RAM for java apps (yours and OEM Console). (You can check resource consumption via perfmon)

  • Console doesn't start on port 7003 .......

Hi, We have created different domains with different ports on
one single UNIX machine.I am trying to start the console after
    I
started my server on port 7003. The weird thing is that the console
starts on port 7001 (the port of another aplication in mydomain
. From there I can manage also isddomain (switching between domains).
When I try to access the JNDI tree though it doesn't work saying
that the server is not running , even though it is. Do you think
there is a JNDI tree naming conflict between the domains?
    Any ideas?
    Thanx
    K.

Couple of things to pay attention here:
    1. It is dangerous to manage one active domain from another active
domain. It is like editing a config.xml file while domain is active. This
can result in iunspecified behavior as the admin server reads config.xml
ONLY at startup time and then it just writes to it, if you are managing a
dmoain from another domain's active server, you can loose the changes.
    2. Check your admin server startup script. For each active domain, there
MUST be a different admin server. One admin server serves only one
domain. Looks like when you sre starting admin server you are using a
domain name for which admin server starts at port 7001 while you inetd to
start admin server for the domain that says that admin server's listen
    port is 7003.
    3. Post your startup scripts for all admin servers and managed servers
    and I will clarify further.

    Nice day

    Marcus,
Is your machine connected to a Novell network? If so, edit the oemapp.bat file and change every reference of Windows_NT to WINNT. The issue is Novell does not set the Windows_NT variable, and uses the WINNT variable instead.

  • Sun Oner Application Server 7 Admin Console doesn't start

When I start the Admin Console for Sun One Application Server 7, and after I login, the admin console doesn't display in the browser. I have tried starting the admin console with IE and Netscape browser, but the admin console has failed to start in either IE or netscape.

    -Type this in your IE
    http://localhost:4848
-IF it does not work type the following
http://kishan:4848 ("kishan" is your machine name)
-IF it does not work do the following
Forgot the Admin Server Port Number? If you do not remember the HTTP server port number of the administrative server, you can inspect the administrative server's configuration file to determine the HTTP server port number.
    1. Navigate to the <domain_config_dir>/domain1/admin-server/config/ directory.
    2. Open the server.xml file in your favorite editor. Look for the element:
    <http-listener id="http-listener-1" address="0.0.0.0" port="4848"...
In this case, port 4848 is the HTTP port number in use.
Forgot the Username or Password? If you do not remember the administrative user name that was supplied during installation, try the user name "admin". This is the default user name specified in the server configuration dialog during installation. If you still cannot determine the user name, look in the following file:
    <domain_config_dir>/domain1/admin-server/config/admpw
This file contains the administrator's user name followed by the encrypted form of the administrative user's password.
If you do not remember the administrator's password, then you can delete the administrative domain using the delete-domain subcommand of asadmin and create a new domain with a new administrative password.
Port Not Accessible? If the connection was refused when attempting to contact the administrative server's admin console application, it is likely that the administrative server is not running. Go back to the beginning of this section and double check the your startup procedures and the content of the administrative server's log file to determine the reason why the server is not running.

  • Enterprise Management Console doesn't work!

    Hi, there,
I meet a strange problem. I use JDeveloper to make jsp project. the database is oracle 9i. I install JDeveloper and database on the same machine. at first, everything is ok. but suddenly I found that I can't run Enterprise Manager Console. the icon in the start meun became unrecognize. if I run the command on the command line, it's refused. I don't know what's the reason. but what's more strange is that I can run jsp project and store and retrieve data from database. I really don't know the reason, besides, how can I change database structure and view data stored in the database without Enterprise Manager Console?
my project will be used on the next week, but I don't know if this problem will effect funcation!
does there anyone know the reason and how can I resolve it? besides, my OS is windows xp professional.
any hint will be great appreciated!!

You can view your all values from Jdeveloper only .
Go for connection Database and click on user than u can c database structure and all tables views ....
