DNS error 404, 407,408 on Server 2008 R2

Trying migrate an old Server 2003 DC to 2008 DC.  I ran adprep, forest etc on the old domain controller and everything was successful.
On the first domain controller (Server 2003)  the 1<sup>st</sup> NIC card has an IP of 192.168.1.2 subnet of 255.255.255.0, gateway of 192.168.1.1 (Router) and DNS of 192.168.1.10.
On the 2<sup>nd</sup> card on the same server, the IP is 192.168.1.10, subnet of 255.255.255.0, gateway of 192.168.1.1 and DNS 192.168.1.10.
When I first tried to promote active directory I received an RPC error.
I noticed that RRAS was installed on the old domain controller and removed it since it is no longer needed.
After removing, Active directory successfully transferred and replicated.
I then went to Transfer the FSMO roles and it transferred successfully.
After rebooting the 2008 server I now get a DNS error “The DNS server could not open socket for address 192.168.1.9.”, “The DNS server could not bind a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) socket
to address 192.168.1.9”. “The DNS server could not bind a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) socket to 192.168.1.9.”
These errors are 404, 407 and 408.  On other programs are running on port 53.
On active directory I get an event error Event ID2092 ” This server is the owner of the following FSMO role, but does not consider it valid.”
If I shut down the old 2003 domain controller active directory does not work.
I cannot connect to Active directory sites and services, users and computers etc.
The old domain controller resumed the primary FSMO roles.
What can I do to correct this problem?

Hi,
Holding two NICs/IP address is not recommanded on DCs, Mr. Ace got a blog on this, see:
Multihomed DCs with DNS, RRAS, and/or PPPoE adapters
http://msmvps.com/blogs/acefekay/archive/2009/08/17/multihomed-dcs-with-dns-rras-and-or-pppoe-adapters.aspx
If two IP addresses on the old DC are no longer needed, please try to configure into one IP address. We may consider to transfer the FSMO back and once the environment is clean, we can then have all the FSMOs on the new DC.
Please run DCDiag, NetDiag and Repadmin to check the health of the DCs and the replication and
Ipconfig /all for the two DCs, If possible, please upload the output into skydrive and post the link here.
In addition, please check if the following articles could help:
Event ID 408 — DNS Server Configuration
Event ID 404 — DNS Server Service Status
Best regards
Michael

Hi, did you get this working? I'm really struggling to get up and running on 2008 R2, the CMS service just refuses to connect to the database. It also looks like the database wasn't created properly during the install. I set it up on an MSDE database, and when I look at it with sql management studio the database is there but there aren't any tables or anything else
Can anyone either confirm or deny that its possible to run Crystal XI on 2008 R2?
The error I'm getting when trying to start the service is:
The root server reported an error Initialization Failure. (Reason: Unable to connect to the database using the provided connection string. Reason: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified).
I've confirmed that the ODBC connections work (both 32 bit and 64 bit) via the built in test, but Crystal for some reason isn't happy

  • Service-specific error code -2146885628- MS SQL Server 2008 r2 Express

I have had no end of problems starting my MS SQL Server 2008 r2 Express.
My database program (Sage ACT! Pro 2011) starts fine. However when it attempts to start my default database, I get the following error message:
When I start my database within my application software (ACT Pro 2011) , I get the following error:
I am not abler to open any database with in ACT 2011. This error tells me that I must manually start SQL Server. I am running Windows 7 Pro, SP1. So I go to Services, and right click on SQL Server (ACT7) and click start and get the following error:
I have contacted Swiftpage and spent 2 hours on the phone with their technical support. They manually (via remote desktop connection) deleted ACT Pro 2011 and manually deleted SQL Server 2008 r2 Express (in registry and all files and folders).
I decided to upgrade, so ACT Pro v16 was installed. SQL Server still would not start automatically or manually. The ACT technical support person, after two very long hours said: that it is not an ACT problem, that I would need to turn to Microsoft for
a resolution as to why SQL Server will not start, and how to remedy this issue.
I hope someone can offer help or point me in the direction to get this very bad problem resolved. I cannot work without my CRM! can someone help?
    Thanks!

Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed?  Installing will not complete.

    Hi Balmukund!
Thanks for your help.  I did rename both folders to a generic name (rename_folder_1 & rename_folder_2) and the install failed again.  Did I rename the folders in a correct manner?  Below is a copy of the user.config file referenced in
your post above.  Any additional direction would be very helpful.

  • ODBC Error when migrating from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Anywhere 12

    Hello community,
    i have the following requirement:
I need to migrate a Database with some Demo data into a SQL Anywhere 12 Database. The SQL Anywhere 12 Database is part of the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP7 installation and came with the same as OEM Product.
The Environment looks like the following:
    DB1 is a MS SQL Server 2008 R2 64 Bit running on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 Bit.
DB2 is the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP7 installation with the shipped SQL Anywhere 12 (12.0.1.3873) Database running on SLES 11.3 64 Bit
CL1 is my Windows 7 64 Bit Client where Sybase Central is installed in 64 Bit. On CL1 i have a 64 Bit System ODBC Connection connecting to DB1 successfully.
Basically i followed the following (pretty straight forward) tutorial:
Migrating a SQL Server Database to SQL Anywhere White Paper-Technical: Mobile Enterprise, Database Management iAnywhere …
When i want to test the connection from inside Sybase Central (During the migration process) i receive the following error:
From inside Sybase Central my connection looks as follows:
And from the ODBC Manager the connection looks as follows:
Personally i found is strange that the Sybase ODBC Driver Manager drops the error. I would expect that the MS SQL ODBC Driver Manager pops the error it its related to the ODBC DSN to DB1.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks and Regards
    -Seb.

    Hi Sebastian,
The data from the SQL Server database must be migrated to an existing SQL Anywhere database.  Could you please tell me where this SQL Anywhere database resides and how are you connecting to it?
The error message is saying that the connection to the SQL Anywhere remote database server is failing, as opposed to the connection to the SQL Server database.

  • Error 0x80070543 when activate Windows Server 2008 Backup Features

Hi, When I try to activate the Window Server 2008 Backup Features, the system prompt me an error. please review below message appear at event viewer. Not sure how it happen / solve it?
    "Installation failed.
    Features:
    Windows Server Backup Features
Error: Attempt to install Windows Server Backup failed with error code 0x80070543. Cannot open an anonymous level security token
Error: Attempt to install Command-line Tools failed with error code 0x80070543. Cannot open an anonymous level security token"

    Hi,
Have you checked the link Simon provided? Any progress?
For your information, the Servermanager.msc is dependent on the .NET framework. Any improper modification of the "Default Authentication Level" will cause the COM
modules related to .NET framework abnormal. When we attempt to install of Roles and Features to impersonate as ANONYMOUS LOGON, this security context doesn’t have permission on any of the System Folders and hence we are failing with the above error listed.
To fix the issue, please configure the related settings to default as the KB971509 suggested.
    Thanks.
    Nina

  • End-User Experience error running agent on windows server 2008 R2

    Hi,
I have installed implemented the end-Uer experience agent in a Windows 7 without issues but when we have installed the SDM 7.30 agent and the SAP GUI 730 in a Windows server 2008 R2 and we have configured the agent as End-User experience monitoring Robot in solution manager.
We have distributed one script without issues but the executios are failing with the message:
"SAPGUI Compontent" could not be instantiated (sapfewse):605
We have reviewed the bellow notes but wothout success:
1261706 - Kill bits set for SAP GUI Scripting
1092631 - Remote vulnerabilities in SAP GUI for Windows
We are able to run the scripts in the server directly in the SAPGUI and even with the EemEditor.
SAP message is open since last week, but my be you can provide a faster response.
    Could you please help me.
    Kind Regards

Have you followed installation procedure described in the following article: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ibf/setup_guide/ibf10_install.html ?
You can find troubleshooting hints in the following article: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ibf/setup_guide/ibf10_troubleshooting.html
I'd reccomend to install CDA instead of AD agent (nice GUI...) but you'll have to create new (virtual) server for that: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ibf/cda_10/Install_Config_guide/cda_install.html

  • 1456 Error creating witness in SQL Server 2008 R2...

Setup is two 2008 R2 Standard servers with a mirrored database. All works fine without a witness - I can perform a manual failover and my test app works off the failover database. Trying to add 2008 R2 Express as a witness to enable automatic failover,
and getting error along the lines of:
The ALTER DATABASE command could not be sent to the remote server instance TCP://%witnesserver.fqdn.com:5022. Error 1456
Found a fairly recent fix for SQL 2008 (r1) for this, but not for R2. Is this still a known problem in R2 or am I missing something crucial?
All the servers use the same service account for all services (it's proof of concept, not production).
    Thanks in advance,
    Neil

In my case after spending several hours of troubleshooting/Googling, with none of the many posted/documented fixes working, I found the solution to my SQL 1456 error to be ROOTED in the SQL Server Configuration Manager\SQL Server Network configuration\Protocols
for MSSQLSERVER\IP Addresses.  There was an old IP address listed in the (Active) IP1 configuration.  Even though DNS was resolving to the new/correct IPaddress and Witness Name along with the local HOST file on the Pricipal/Mirror/Witness all
containing the correct IP/DNS entries, this old address still was embeded in the SQL Server Configuration Manager\SQL Server Network configuration\Protocols for MSSQLSERVER\IP Addresses.  Once I modified the IP entry to match the current Witness
IP address all was GOLDEN.  This may not be the solution for your 1456 Error, but it is one that can be added to the plethera of possible fixes for it.  I hope this saves someone some time and effort along the way.  - Lou

  • Host Credentials Validation Error - Oracle database on Windows Server 2008

I am trying to log into an oracle database residing on a windows 2008 server through enterprise manager. I keep getting the error Validation error - . I have added my username to the "log on as bacth job" properties. but I still keep getting this error.

    Try also adding:
Logon as a Service and Act as Part of the Operating System.
I assume you are using a domain account and not one that is local to the box being monitored, correct?
Also, in OEM, go to Preferences...Preferred Credentials and enter the user name and password that you are using for the Normal Username and Normal Password and then click test. If this works, you should be good to go.

i am using sun application server 8 2005Q1.........
i an getting the err 404(requested resources not available......)
    I have did the following:
    the following are my files
    employeedetails.java(which implements the servlet class)
    findemployee.html(which gets the employee id)
1.First I have designed the interface with URL as
    http://localhost:1050(which is my port no)/emp_details/servlet/EmployeeDetails
2.Then I have coded the servlet with class name as EmployeeDetails
3.I have compiled it in the following manner:
    e:\>path=%path%;c:\j2sdk1.4.2_12\bin;
    e:\>set classpath=%classpath%;e:\sun\Appserver\lib\j2ee.jar;
    e:\>javac e:\Employee\EmployeeDetails.java
It compiled successfully without any errors
4.Then I have started the sun application server
5.I have also opened the deploy tool
    6.In that,
    New->Application
    the application wizard opens.......
then I browsed and given the new application name as e:\Employee\EmployeeDetails.jar
The application display name appears as EmployeeDetails
7.It also appears at the left end of the tree structure
    8.Then I opened the New->Web Component
    the web component wizard appears
    9.I have clicked next
10.In that panel I have chosen the option

    is given as EmployeeDetails
17.With this I have finished the web component wizard
18.Then the context root name is given as emp_details and saved
    19.Then I have chosen the Tools->deploy
    20.In that wizard,
I have typed the admin user name and pswd
    21.It gets deployed successfully.
22.Then I have opened th browser and typed the following URL
    http://localhost:1050/emp_details/FindEmployee.html
    23.The html form appears.....
24.I have kept oracle as my backend with datasource name Mine
and in the servlet I have changed the datasource name with user name and pswd scott & tiger
25.But when i click the submit button,it gives the error
    http status 404 -/emp_details/servlet/EmployeeDetails
    the requested resource not available
anybody who knows the anwser plz reply me soon and help me to get rid of this error..........................

Your code looks fine. Unless you actually made a typo in the URL I can't explain this problem. To verify this I even copied your web.xml and the SimpleServlet without any changes to my playground environment and it ran just flawlessly at http://localhost:8080/playground/servlets/HelloWorld
To exclude things, have you tried another applicationserver (Tomcat 6? Glassfish? Jetty?) or maybe another OS?

  • Fatal Error When Running Sysprep on Server 2008 R2

its the registry keys that needs to change. once an image has been sysprepped once, if you try and reuse this image - alter the software for example - then sysprep again, 99 times out of 100 it will give you this grief
I cant remember which registry key is the trick, uncle google
BTW, why as its virtualised are you not just backing up the VM?

Bear with me because I'm a complete n00b when it comes to running sysprep.I've just set up a VM the way I'd like it. I intend for it to be an application serverfor a Citrix environment, and I'd like to make at least one copy for redundancy's sake and performance considerations for the users. It took me a long time to get the app server set up correctly and I'd prefer to NOT duplicate the process if at all possible.Problem I'm having is that after cloning the server, I need to run sysprep on it in order to generate a new SID. But every time I run sysprep I get a fairly useless 'fatal error' message:"system preparation tool 3.14 a fatal error occurred while trying to sysprep the machine"I've tried quite a few fixes that I've found online, but none of them seem to work. What I've tried so far:1) Running MS's hotfix found in this article2)...

In our office, we have a Windows Server Infrastructure with several Macs (Imacs, mac pros, macbook airs etc).
Active Directory and DNS is running off a Windows Server 2008 R2 Server, with DHCP on a Cisco Router.
DHCP is configured to direct all DNS entries to the Windows DNS Server.
The problem that I'm having is that, while all windows machines show up on the Windows DNS Server, None of the Macs are registered. Macs are able to utilize the DNS Server correctly, but will not register on the DNS Listings.
Because I cannot access or ping Macs via their hostname, I cannot tell our third party backup software to point to a particular machine. Our workstations are all DHCP enabled, and since assigning a static ip to all the Macs here is not an option, I need to get this working, so that I can get our macs backing up.
I've followed a few similar articles, but they appear to be for older 2003 servers, which the 2008 R2 servers do not have those options. I do not want to join the Macs onto the windows domain, I merely want to get them registered on our DNS server.
The mac operating systems vary between Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion

I'm pretty sure that the DNS registration stuff is part of the Active Directory plug-in on OS X.  I'd recommend you give it a try.
GPOs are not enforced on the Macs if they're bound to Active Directory, _unless_ you've extended the Active Directory schema (which is a lot of work).  The main benefits to joining Macs to AD ar:
    * Centralized password management and policies (as you've defined in AD).
    * Single sign-on to various kerberized resources (i.e. Windows share points and internal web pages if you're using IIS and you use Kerberos to secure them, rather than NTLM).
Here's an Apple white paper which may help.  I would recommend you read this carefully and then decide whether or not you want to bind the Macs to AD.  I'd also recommend you test with a bound Mac to see if resolves this "host name in DNS" issue... I suspect it will.
