DNS_ERROR_NUMERIC_NAME
Hi guys.
i'm trying to join a W8.1 based machine to domain with all numeric computername however I'm getting an error.DNS Name is entirely numeric.
Read RFC 1123 and it says that a complete numeric is now accepted.
Is it something that won't work with Windows?
thanks in advance..
Hi,
As stated is the KB article shared by SenneVL,
In Windows 2000 and in later versions of Windows, computers that are members of an Active Directory domain cannot have names that are composed completely of numbers. This restriction is because of DNS restrictions.
See this KB for the restrictions details:
Windows 2000 Does Not Permit All-Numeric Computer Names
