DNS host name under virtual interface??

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what is the purpose of DNS hostname under the virtual interface? Is it a required parameter for web-authentication / how does it affect the web authentication?

The host name under the virtual interface is for if/when you put a third party certificate in the WLC. When you register for the cert, the name you put under the virtual interface is what you use for the cert.

Hi all,
Does anybody of you know, if there is a way in setting a DNS hostname for the virtual IP on the 5760 WLC?
The parameter-map does not offer any option.
AireOS based WLCs do offer it in order to see a DNS name instead of the virtual IP when connecting to the captive portal.

Can you try and confirm if below works?
Switch(config)#parameter-map type webauth global
Switch(config-params-parameter-map)#virtual-ip ipv4 1.1.1.1 ?
virtual-host Virtual host name
Switch(config-params-parameter-map)#virtual-ip ipv4 1.1.1.1 virtual-host

After specifying the external host name under outlook anywhere, users pop up for password

Dear All,
I have installed and configured exchange 2013 as a fresh installation on server 2012 and it worked fine till i changed
specifying the external host name under outlook anywhere(in exchange ECP -> Server -> server -> W12R2-Email2013).
My internal domain is starnavigator.lk and we have several accepted domains listed. but all the staff checked web mail through
mail.leoburnett.lk internally and externally. even now web mail is working fine.
After i added external host name as mail.leoburnett.lk
all the internal PCs start to pop up for user name and password and its not connecting.
even if I reversed back the settings, still prompt for user name and password. also auto discover cant locate the settings. if i configure the settings manually, i t works for first time and after restarting outlook, again prompt for name and password.Any
any advice or solution please??

Run this tool and post the result (only errors)

After configuring outlook manually, run Test E-Mail Autoconfiguration and Connection Status and post the result.
Editing just an URL for OA shouldn't cause any issue.
Did you restarted IIS Service?

DNS Host name problem

Hi, I am a newbie to AS. Nice to join the family and meet u all.
I got some problem during installation of AS 2005Q2, when I install and select 'Config Now' option, I cannot pass since the DNS hostname always fail.
If I select 'Config Later', I will find something is missing, like asadmin tool is not avaiable.
Since I will use the Ip only, can I disable or bypass the DNS host name? since no matter how I enter it always fail.
Please advise, thank you very much in advance. :)

Getting ipaddress or host name for virtual server

I want to get the ipaddress or host name for virtual server in a cluster environment. If i do
java.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostName()
it returns the ipaddress of the physical node currently running virtual server.
Is there any way to get the ipaddress or host name for virtual server ?

You can get the hostname by clicking on the account properties in outlook, but the port you connect to must be opened by your system admin.

Change DNS host name automatically when one device is down

our network team has setup Bluecoat proxy server in our main office and DR site . We have configured GPO to populate the details of proxy server hostname in the proxy setting eg : Proxy server . IP1 is the IP address for the device in Head office
and IP2 is the IP address assigned for device in DR site. currently we have given a DNS entry as
Proxyserver - IP1.
So DNS resolves the IP address of device in Head office and authentication and internet access works.
But we want to use the DR device to be used automatically (only )when head office device is not reachable. But how to configure the settings for DNS I am not sure.
I don't want to use round robin as it will send the traffic to both head office and DR in a load balancing fashion .
for this request I had received an advice to use a script to monitor the first device continuously and if not reachable then change the Hostname in DNS to that of second device .
Let me know if anyone can help me on this.

Agree with Jrv, I also recommend you can consult proxy vendor for a better solution.
In addition, if you still want to update host name in DNS via Powershell, please refer to the script to update A record in DNS:
$Zone = "dns zone"
$oldobj = Get-DnsServerResourceRecord -ZoneName $Zone -RRType "A" -Name "hostname"
$newobj = Get-DnsServerResourceRecord -ZoneName $Zone -RRType "A" -Name "hostname"

MI424WR - DNS Host Name Resolution

I have added several DNS entries in the DNS Server section of the MI424WR. These are for my network printer, and I have renamed several Android devices to give them names. When I try to ping any host name that I added to the DNS Server section it does not resolve.
How can I rectify this?

Are your machines using the DNS Server/Relay in the ActionTec, or are they set to use External DNS Servers? An ipconfig /all readout from the command prompt will tell you this information.

Old dns host name still showing!

I setup a new OSX 10.6 server and the dns name that i choose at the installation setup wizard was server1.mydomain.com.
after the installation is done, i decided to get rid of this name and setup a new dns name.. so i picked up a server2.mydomain.com
dns is resolving fine when i host server2.mydomain.com i got the server ip address and when i host the server ip it resolves the dns name, and also when i run the command changeip -checkhostname
both names matches and it says nothing to change.
my only problem now is when I go to Push Notifications & under configures services box, I see the old dns name and right next to it "iCal".. how can i change that so it will just match the new dns name which is dns2.mydomain.com ??
So I went to the iCal service and there is a button to Remove the old dns name..i clicked on it and it asks me for username and password for server1.mydomain.com to stop delivering push calendar notifications and when I click on connect, it shows an error:
Server Cannot be found on the network, check that the server hostname you've provided is valid or try again later?
Any idea or thoughts ?

Here's the full dump of settings for calendar:
$ sudo serveradmin settings calendar
If you've got settings showing for your old host, shut off the calendar server, and then try resetting those references via serveradmin. (See +serveradmin help+ for details)
If that fails, I'd then start by pulling the notifications off in Server Admin and shutting off iCal Server, and re-adding calendar, and restarting, and re-adding the notifications.
Failing that, (ugh, not my preferred choice nor preferred suggestion) reinstall.

DNS or Local Host Name Issue

I have an iMac, 10.6.2 that continues to get a duplicate IP address error. I have determined that this iMac is seeing itself as another machine on the network, hence the duplicate IP error. I have changed the local host name under system preferences -->network (and in sharing) to imac10.6.2-username However, on the WINS tab of system preferences-->network the computer name shows as imac 9B14C4. I have manually changed this on the WINS tab and but it doesn't actually change it. I have flushed DNS and used the scutil--gethostname command to no avail. Additionally, this iMac does not show up when browsing the network from any machine on the network. All other Macs here do. Any suggestions?

Actually I can browse to it through the network by either the DNS name or the WINS name, even though I tried to make them the same.

I use a Mac mini as a small AV server, and have exactly the same issue. Message keeps popping up at least once a day. Changing name in Preferences doesn't make any difference. After a few weeks it's gone from 'Centerstage' to 'Centerstage-8'. I even formatted the HD and installed Leopard and after that Snow Leopard. Didn't solve anything. Very irritating. Apple only recognizes this as a Mac OS X server issue.
Help.

WLC Virtual Interface config for a public SSL cert for Web Authentication

I'm trying to get a cert loaded on my 5508 WLC running 7.6.130.0 so when a Web-Auth users tries to authenticate they don't get the SSL cert error.
In the document "Generate CSR for Third−Party Certificates and
Download Chained Certificates to the WLC"
Document ID: 109597 it states the following
"Note: It is important that you provide the correct Common Name. Ensure that the host name that is
used to create the certificate (Common Name) matches the Domain Name System (DNS) host name
entry for the virtual interface IP on the WLC and that the name exists in the DNS as well. Also, after
you make the change to the VIP interface, you must reboot the system in order for this change to take
effect.
Here are my questions.
1. I have always had 1.1.1.1 as the address of the Virtual interface, should that change or can I leave it as 1.1.1.1?
2. In the "DNS Host Name" Field do I simply put the domain or the FQDN? Example. Company.com or hostname.company.com

1) You can change that if you want. Normally it is non-Public and non-routable in your network.
2) Put the Host name for which you are going to give in your company DNS server where that Host name would be mapped to the Virtual ip address.

Problem with host name

Have just checked my -checkhostname in terminal and am different results for the server and DNS host name - I assume that I need them to match for open directory to work correctly? If so how do I rectify them?

If this is related to not having a gateway (over in [your other thread|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13049450]), get a gateway.
This is one of the reasons why you want a gateway.
There are other (and nastier) reasons.

Getting host name or ipaddress for viirtual server

I want to get the ipaddress or host name for virtual server in a cluster environment. If i do

Might help to define what you actually mean by "virtual server" and what you actually want as well (and from what process.)
For example a clustered system with a single entry point. And you want the client to have the entry point. In this case the virtual address (ip and/or host) should always be returned. You can't get the individual address of a specific server. If that is not the case then something is wrong with the clustered system, not java/client.
Another example, a server in the cluster. Then it only knows about its own real address. If you want the cluster then you have to explicitly deliver that information to it, the box itself does not know it.
Something else?

The Bonjour name does not match the host name

I changed the host name of a Mac Mini Server (OS X 10.8.5, Server 2.2.2) but then I got the email "The Bonjour name xxx-server does not match the host name yyy-server.local).
How do I fix it? (Appreciate for detailed steps.)

The Bonjour name is separate from the DNS host name, and you're hopefully not serving the .local domain from your own DNS server within OS X Server. That can cause problems.
The Bonjour name is assigned by  > System Preferences > Sharing.
If you want to see the three names assigned, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities and enter the following three commands (some example output shown for each command) (do not enter the $ signs shown in the following; that's the command prompt):
$ scutil --get ComputerName
myhost
$ scutil --get HostName
myhost.example.com
$ scutil --get LocalHostName
myhost
$
Post the output from the three, and we'll have a look. If you want or need to obfuscate, please do so consistently. Example.com (as shown above) is a good choice for an obfuscated domain, too.

Apache, name based virtual hosts and multiple servers.

Ive been playing with Apache and name-based virtual hosts for a while now, but, ive been doing it with one single server... now i have the need to forward a name-based request to another server inside the intranet (wich doesnt have a public IP, but a private)...
Something like this:
internet -----> Webserver (name based vhosts) ----> intranet-webserver
Where "webserver" has several domains resolved via name based virtual hosting, and one of those needs to be redirected (or forwarded) to another server on the LAN.
Any ideas on how to do this? i tryed searching the web, but i dont know under which keywords, so i always end on single server virtual hosting help sites.

you need to define a virtual server for it..but inside that definition.. define a proxy.
Then the middle webserver, will actually handle the request to the intranet server, on behalf of the internet client..and then pass the traffic to the internet client.

AddNode cannot find Virtual Host name

Hi,all;
I want to replace a server in RAC for example RAC1. at first,I deleted node RAC1,this step is total clean out all information of RAC1 in the cluster.
then prepare new machine of RAC1 for cluster install.
When I run addNode.sh in RAC2 to re-add clusterware to RAC1. the first step of addNode is fill up the information of new node,Public node name,Private node name,Virtual host name.
It will list such info of the remain node also.
In my operation,It can find all info of new node which is rac2,rac2-priv,rac2-vip. but the remain node's Virtual host name is blank -- it shuould be rac1-vip.
In this step,I still click "Next" to proceed my operation and return not any error.
at the end of addNode.sh it will execute 3 script to end out operation of add clusterware to new node.
the third script is to run /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs_1/root.sh in the new node RAC1,
the screen print "*Expecting the CRS daemons to be up within 600 seconds*."
but after waited more than *6000* seconds,it returned nothing to me,It seem idle! I cancle the script manual.the result is the CRS can not run on RAC1.
in RAC2,crs_stat -t can see ora.rac1.gsd , ora.rac1.ons , ora.rac1.vip. but they are all offline.
and run vipca in RAC2 reture
ora.rac1.gsd has placement error
ora.rac1.ons has placement error
has not more detail log file left in server.
I think all of my operation is normal and In line with the rules except it cannot export remain node's Virtual host name.
How to fix it? any ideal?
