DNS Issues, can't set static DNS server

I have an Airport Extreme (which I'll call the router). It has an IPv6 tunnel (to Hurricane Electric), so it hands out IPv4 DHCP and announces an IPv6 network as well. The DNS servers configured on the router are OpenDNS'.
My Apple TV 2 is connected via wired Ethernet to the router. It was using a DHCP address provided by the router, which made the DNS server the same address as the router. I wanted to manually set the DNS to use my ISP's, so that I can make sure the Netflix streaming issue I have is not a DNS issue.
So I changed the Apple TV to a manual address, and set the DNS server to my ISP's DNS server (Apple TV can only have one DNS server? Odd.)
After I save this, the Network page shows the correct manual IP, mask, and router, but the DNS Address is an IPv6 address (one that belongs to my network, but the entire address isn't visible), not the one I set. When I Configure TCP/IP again, and I reach the DNS Address page, the first digit of the existing address is "20", and the rest of the digits are "0". Interesting note as well: if I press Down, the number will increment to 19, and so on, but if I press Up, it changes to 0. Obviously the UI isn't designed for IPv6 addressing, but there's an IPv6 address in there nevertheless.

I have tried to set the DNS Address multiple times now, and have restarted the Apple TV. The IPv6 DNS Address persists.

After 16 hours of working i don´t have seen this easy solution. I had tried with Internet Explorer and Opera but finaly i have need to use Firefox.
Thanks a lot to solve it.

  • Setting Static DNS on E4200

    I recently wanted to try using the Google public DNS servers on my home network. I have a Cisco E4200 router.
    On the router's administration page, I set Static DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8 and Static DNS 2 to 8.8.4.4 and saved the settings.
    Even after rebooting the router, the Setup page shows the Google DNS addresses listed above, but the Status page shows 65.32.5.111 and 65.32.5.112 as being the DNS servers its using.
    Does anyone know how to set the E4200 to use different DNS servers?
    Thanks!

    Thanks.  I ran the analyzer and in the direct probing of dns resolvers section, it showed this:
    Your system is configured to use 1 DNS resolver(s).
    The resolver at 192.168.1.1 (tampfl-dns-cac-112) could not process the following tested types: [snipped]
    192.168.1.1 is, of course, my router's local IP address.

  • Can't set mail exchange server on new MacBook Air

    Can't set mail exchange server on new MacBook Air. It used to work on iphone and iPad. Now the same exchange doesnt work on ipad and not working at all on Mac Air. It just keeps on telling me the server does not response but IPhone gets the mail!!

    I have had the same problem!!

  • How can I set up Mavericks Server on a Test Mac without affecting the production server

    I have Mountain Lion server running as on an xserve as our main server, it has developed a few issues particularly related to Profile Manager and Certificates.
    So I was going to use the move to Mavericks as an opportunity to have a fresh start.
    So I want to set up Mavericks Server on a mac mini temporarily to test it and configure all the services before moving it to the Xserve as the main server.
    My question is what is the best way to do this, obviously I can't use the same IP or hostname as the main server if it is connected to the network, and some services can't be set up without a network connection.
    So do I give it a new IP and hostnmame for now and then change it later on, my concern is that changing the hostname might cause issues down the line.
    So what is the best way to set up a fresh server in preperation as a drop in replacement of the current server?

    Ok I got the test server set up fine and cloned it over to a spare partition on the Xserve.
    But when I booted into the new partition several things broke.
    1st the IP address changed itself despite the fact it is set to Manual, The Alert section of Server.app let me repair this.
    Profile Manager no longer worked, the web page just said Profile manager could not be found, was working fine on the test mac
    Tried deleting the OD master and resetting Profile Manager but it still didn't work.
    DNS needed repairing and restarting
    I decided at that point to abandon it and go back to the test mac where everything is still working.
    Any tips for overcoming these issues.
    I have thought maybe it would be best to turn off all server services before making the clone and then turn them on one at a time once it has been restored to the new partition on the xserve
    Also if the certificates that are created when making an OD master were made on the mac mini does that cause a problem when it has been restored to a different machine, should I leave OD off and just set it up when it is in its final place?

  • DNS Issues - Can ping server name and IPs but not FQDNs.

    Hi All,
    Hopefully some one can help me here, I am having an issue where one of my domain attached servers cannot ping any FQDNs in the environment but it can ping the host names and the IPs and look up the host names from a reverse look up.
    We have done the following troubleshooting:
    Flushed and registered DNS cache.
    Restarted the DNS client and net logon services on the effected server
    Preformed standard checks and commands such as:
    Checked the event logs and found there were warnings for DNS registration.
    Compared the DNS settings in the network adapters across the rest of the servers in the environment and found that they were all the same. DNS Suffixes are added in the correct order and are set to register.
    Pinging FQDNs which is not giving any results.
    Tracert FQDNs which is also not giving any results.
    Nslookup which is querying the DNS server directly and giving results as expected
    Ran the command which reported successful: dcdiag /test:registerindns /dnsdomain:sub.domain.net /v
    Checked and updated the permissions on DNS for the affected server to give the server full control of its own DNS entry.
    Replaced the DNS Client service DLL with one from a server that is working as expected.
    Also worth noting is that the affected server (as well as every other server in the environment) has 2 NICs, one that communicates with DNS and AD and the other does not have any DNS IPs set.
    Not this is not the first time this happened, a reboot fixed the issue before but it seems to be a reoccurring problem now.
    If any one can shed some light on this issue I would be grateful.
    Regards,
    Steve.

    Hi Steve,
    First, we should confirm if this issue is caused by DNS.
    When you ping the FQDN, does the server show the correct corresponding IP address?
    If no, there should be some error messages. If it is possible, please post the screenshot of this issue.
    To check the process about how does server resolve the FQDN, please follow the steps below:
    clear local DNS cache with command ipconfig /flushdns
    perform the network capture
    ping the specified FQDN
    Check the DNS traffic
    To download Network Monitor, please click the link below:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/details.aspx?id=4865
    Besides, have you tried to update the NIC driver to the latest version?
    Best Regards.

  • Can't set up Exchange Server with 3G

    I'm very frustrated. I upgraded primarily so I can get push email / calendar from my work. It doesn't seem to be able to set me up. Could this be a port or settings issue at work? I was told that this shouldn't be an issue.
    Yes, I've put in my email and password correctly. After clicking next it asks me for my exchange server address which I supply. It then says "verification failed". I've tried every possible combination.
    We do also use exchange access through webmail. Should I use this instead of my rather long exchange address? Could it be an issue with multiple servers?
    Am I the only one having problems?

    make sure you're entering it correctly, sounds daft but if your webmail address is
    http://mail.company.com/exchange
    then all you enter on the phone is
    mail.company.com
    Hope this helps

    A heavily loaded question
    First off, are you talking about SMTP? IMAP? POP?
    Secondly, what are you trying to achieve, specifically?
    Due to the nature of the protocols, SMTP is pretty fault tolerant, and multiple SMTP servers don't, necessarily, need to be aware of each other, so 'clustering' SMTP could be a matter of setting up multiple servers in parallel and just load balancing your traffic across them. Nothing difficult there.
    IMAP (and POP, if you use it) are different since they affect the user's mailbox and what they see in their mail client. In the worst case, failing over to a different server could render the user's mail inaccessible. For this reason, in high availability scenarios, the actual mailboxes are usually stored on some shared resource such as a SAN - that way any IMAP server can access the user's mailboxes. Of course, this just moves the failure domain from the mail server to the storage server, but for the most part that's a better-known entity.
    At the end of the day you need to balance complexity and availability. It is possible to build highly available systems with virtually no downtime and automatic failover. In many cases, though, tolerating a few minutes (or even hours) of downtime while a crashed server is rebooted/rebuilt is not the end of the world.
    You'll need to provide more details of your goals before anyone can be more specific.

  • Can you set up mail server for 2 domains?

    we have emails using 2 different domains. The first domain has the mail set up on mac server and is running fine. We would now like to add our second email domain to this server as well. Can we do this?

    Hmm.  Good to know.  However, it sounds a little intimidating.  I guess it is not a tool you can just launch like Server Admin Tools with a nice-looking user-interface, right?  Even though I've installed and ran Windows SBS 2003 since 2003 and just setup a Mac Mini Server, I am not that comfortable when it comes to terminal-level commands, port mapping this, port mapping that, X11, Xcode, etc.  Is there a step-by-step configuration guide out there that you are aware?  I'll start to look around.

  • EA6350 DHCP/DNS Issues

    Just got this router, overall not bad, but a couple of serious problems. When using the built in DHCP there's no way to force serving only the static DNS addresses.  I have been using OpenDNS as part of a multi-layer parental control solution... but because this router always serves itself up as a DNS proxy, and bypasses the static DNS configuration, I no longer get the behavior I was able to get with my old wrt54g. It would be great if there were options to :1) Exclude DNS Proxy from the served DHCP list of DNS addresses2) Disable DNS Proxy Somewhat less serious, if you disable the built in DHCP, there's no way to turn it back on, short of resetting the router to factory default settings. All the DHCP configuration is blanked when turned off, and there's no way to restore the configuration to allow it to be re-enabled. I hope to see these issues fixed in the next firmware update!

    Thanks.Believe it or not, have configured only 1 open DNS server, also tried disabling IPv6 L3 interfaces on WAN.Neither made any difference. Internet Connection (IPv4)  Connection Type:Automatic Configuration - DHCPLogin Status:  ConnectDisconnectInternet Address:*************************Subnet Mask:*************************Default Gateway:*************************DNS1:75.75.75.75DNS2:75.75.76.76DNS3: MTU:AutoDHCP Lease Time:5569 Minutes Local Network  DHCP Server  Local MAC Address:48:F8:B3:BD:21:0FIPv4 Address:10.230.84.229IPv4 Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0IPv6 Link-Local Address:fe80:0000:0000:0000:4af8:b3ff:febd:210fPrefix Address:  DHCP Server:EnabledStart IP Address:10.230.84.100End IP Address:10.230.84.149Client lease time:10080 MinutesStatic DNS 1:208.67.222.222Static DNS 2: Static DNS 3: WINS:

  • Dns issues with one domain (Resolved)

    i'm currently having dns issues with one domain, in that it won't resolve when I use bt's dns servers.
    The domain is owned by a friend in the US who runs his own server for irc, web, and I also have a server that is on his connection, and resolves fine from other machines on different networks, and also resolves fine when I set windows to use the opendns servers, but when it's set to either my routers ip (using bt's dns), or set to automatic (using bt's dns via the homehub), this one domain will not resolve.
    I'm pretty certain it's not a windows issue, as it's a clean install of windows 7 that I did yesterday. I've tried rebooting the homehub, and also flushing my dns on windows, but this has not solved the issue.
    As I say, it resolves fine on other networks, and also when I use the opendns servers, so I know it's definately a dns issue.
    Using bt's dns servers:
    C:\Users\admin>ping chatnsn.com
    Ping request could not find host chatnsn.com. Please check the name and try agai
    n.
    Using opendns:
    C:\Users\admin>ping chatnsn.com
    Pinging chatnsn.com [68.51.24.74] with 32 bytes of data:
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Ping statistics for 68.51.24.74:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),
    (The timeouts are normal...he has his router set to not respond to ping requests).
    Has anyone got any ideas on how to sort this out? Preferably without having to phone the helpdesk...lets just say i've done it in the past, and according to the poeple I spoke to in india, I knew nothing about my own systems, and it was a problem at my end...which was not the case, and I proved this several times.
    Edit: This issue appears to have resolved itself, and the domain is now resolving again using the homehub for dns resolution.

    Hi,
    When NSLOOKUP starts, before anything else, it checks the computer's network configuration to determine the IP address of the DNS server that the computer uses.
    Then it does a reverse DNS lookup on that IP address to determine the name of the DNS server.
    If reverse DNS for that IP address is not setup correctly, then NSLOOKUP cannot determine the name associated with the IP address.

  • Can we override Static methods?

    Hi all, I m in little bit confusion abt static methods overriding.
    Could you help me on this issue.,
    Can we override Static methods?

    You can provide static methods with same name in both super class and subclass. But it is not overriding in this scenario. Both will act as independent methods.
    Example:
    have a super class:
    public class Test1 {
    public static void mthdA()
    System.out.println("in super");
    have a sub class:
    public class Test2 extends Test1{
    public static void mthdA()
    System.out.println("inside sub");
    public static void main(String[] args){
    Test1 objTest = new Test2();
    objTest.mthdA();
    Try to run the sub class Test2. The output would be "in super".
    Remove static modifier in mthdA() in both the classes and then run. The output would be "in sub". Meaning, methdA is overriden in sub class.

  • Setting up Oracle Server for Home???

    hello
    Please would someone help me, I recently installed in Oracle Developer Suit on my machine, and so far the Developer icons and ohters show up .. but cannot seem to connect to the main Developer suite program frm Start>Programs>Oracle>Oracle Developer Sute....
    here is where the big problem is and that is how do I set up a server at home for it, as the college has a server for their oracle program. Without Oracle running i cannot really do my assignment two of using Oracle itself to produce a database through the program.
    I want to ask would the Net manager allow me to set up and test the server this way? note that i have followed the instructions of my lecture handsouts taht he put on blackboard, the thing is taht he has not yet shown me how to set it up and get it to run? so I was thinking do any of you people know how to do this?
    id b great if you could post some instructions ro guidlalines or email me the screen dumps of how i can clearly set up a server for my program so i can log in with a username and passworld and connect string @ home.
    email is [email protected]

    Bo,
    If you have the means, I would recommend placing spatial indexes on a separate physical device from data and other indexes. This is an extension of the data separate from indexes rule of thumb.

  • Two Xserves running 10.5 Server and setting up DNS...

    Hello.
    I have two Xserves (a G5 and a new Intel), both with fresh installs of 10.5 Server on them.
    Xserve #1 not going to be hosting any external services (FTP, web, email) and only housing internal, mission critical & confidential data (the server is set up with a mirror RAID on the OS drive as well as mirror RAID on the storage drives + nightly tape backups for offsite storage). Right now there are no plans for enabling iCal on this server as we're trying to keep the server as basic as possible (as we can afford zero downtime on this server), but if the initial setup of 10.5 requires configuration at first run to allow this type of thing, I'd like to deal with it now so as to keep my options open (as I know iCal on 10.5 requires Open Directory enabled).
    Xserve #2 is going to host FTP (for external clients) and internal file sharing for the design/production department (basically, for transferring files back and fourth between departments, so no data via this share will be "critical" as it's only temporarily on the server and will always exist in other locations). Even though this server will not host "critical" data, it will share the same backup/RAID scheme as Xserve #1.
    So, I'm curious as to how I set up DNS in this situation (so we can associate a domain name to our static IP address). We already have our main domain setup via 3rd-party hosting service (for web & email as we do not want to bring these services in-house), but we're purchasing a second domain that will be associated with company (via a static IP, so we can give a domain name instead of IP address for people needing to connect to the FTP server, make it easier for employees to remember the address for remote connections, etc.).
    Because Xserve #2 is going to be hosting FTP, would it make sense to setup DNS on this server and not set it up on Xserve #1? Also, and this could just be me being paranoid, but because Xserve #1 will be housing "critical & confidential" data I want to eliminate as much contact with the outside world as possible with this server, so this is another reason I feel Xserve #2 should have DNS running instead.
    Oh, and not sure if this makes any difference, but between the WAN and the LAN is a SonicWALL firewall and currently it deal with port forwarding, etc. depending on what services are being requested from the WAN (ie. remote machine connections, FileMaker remote connections, etc.).
    Any advice would be appreciated!
    Regards,
    Kristin.

    There's a couple of things in your post I don't understand:
    the server is set up with a mirror RAID on the OS drive as well as mirror RAID on the storage drives
    How are you doing this? Both XServes support only three internal drives and two mirrors require 4 drives. Where does the fourth drive come into play?
    I'm curious as to how I set up DNS in this situation
    There are numerous ways of doing this, but with a single static IP address your best bet is to leave DNS where it is - managed by your hosting provider. Just add a record in the domain zone (e.g. ftp.yourdomain.com) that has the IP address of the public interface your SonicWall firewall. You don't need a separate domain for this. You also don't need to setup internal DNS for this (although you may need internal DNS if you're running Open Directory.
    Because Xserve #2 is going to be hosting FTP, would it make sense to setup DNS on this server and not set it up on Xserve #1?
    Assuming you're referring to setting up a DNS server - use them BOTH. Make one of the servers the primary server (I'd pick the internal-only server for this) and set the other server to be a slave (so it copies all the zone data from the primary server). That way you have a replica of the data to provide additional resilience.
