DNS LOG writting Issue in win 2k8 server.

We have Win2K8 Std, we are experiencing the DNS log issue on this Server. We had set the
DNS Log limit is 200 MB and this logs should be over written , but automatically deleting the logs once reaches the limit ( 200 MB), again will start with writing the fresh logs. Please assist us the issue as early as possible.

text below from this link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb726966.aspx
which one you've set:
Determine what happens when the maximum log size is reached. The options available are
Overwrite Events As Needed Events in the log are overwritten when the maximum file size is reached. Generally, this is the best option on a low priority system.
Overwrite Events Older Than . . . Days When the maximum file size is reached, events in the log are overwritten only if they are older than the setting you select. If
the maximum size is reached and the events can't be overwritten, the system generates error messages telling you the event log is full.
Do Not Overwrite Events (Clear Log Manually) When the maximum file size is reached, the system generates error messages telling you the event log is full.
or check out this thread, you can opt to save event logs:

  • Serious log in issues after installing Lion Server

    Hi all,
I am relatively inexperienced with software involving essentially anything technical, so you will have to pardon my ignorance.
I am currently trying to set-up a wireless network at home using Lion Server, and it would appear I have bitten off more than I can chew. I installed Lion Server on Tuesday, and have been battling with it ever since - attempting to use a 'We Got Served' guide to walk me through.
I installed the Server app on my iMac as I figured the 3 computers on the network would not require very much space, and so there would be little point in buying a whole new machine to run it from. Whilst I was having little luck in making it work as I had hoped - I have now managed to completely lock the iMac. Since it's installation I have had no issue logging in and out of my actual account on OSX, however earlier the computer froze following an Adobe update and I was forced to do a hard restart. However, when I attempted to log back in I now get the following error:
"You are unable to log in to the user account "xxxx" at this time.
Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."
I have tried everything in my limited knowledge to rectify this, and nothing works it would seem. I've read examples of this happening when trying to log into the actual server app, or where the hard drive is corrupt on the machine itself - this seems to be a hybrid of the two.
I can no longer open the computer in Safe Mode, however when I go into Disk Utility all disks when verified appear to be absolutely fine with disc repair making no difference. The only available drive is now listed as a Server drive so I cannot even re-install Lion on there.
This is causing me much distress as I can as far as I can tell not only log into my computer, but can do nothing to repair the issue bar erasing everthing from it. There is a lot of important data on there and I am confident that it is not actually corrupt, however Server seems to have just locked it completely.
    Help would be much appreciated!

I am having a similar issue, but in my situation, my users cannot log in.  All of my users are network users on Mini's.  I am running 10.6.8 on my server.  I have created users before with no issues, but have not done so in months.  When I try to log the new user in, I get the following error:
xpchelper: Could not get path of user account (uid:1029) home directory:/Network/Servers/server.xxx.net/Volumes/Data/Users/username; error; The operation couldn't be completed. No such file or directory. Using home directory.
CFPreferences: user home directory at file://localhost/Network/Servers/server.xxx.net/Volumes/Data/Users/username/ is currently unavailable. User domains will be volatile.
    Authorizationhost: error |-[homedirmounter mount NetworkHomeWithURL: attributes: dirPath: username:]|PremountHomeDirectoryWithAuthentication (url=AFP://server.xxx.net/Users/homedir= /Network/Servers/server.xxx.net/Volumes/Data/Users/username, name=username) returned 5.
I have no idea of what to do.  I have verified that the user looks the same as my other users in WGM. The user's folder was created on the server.  The user has access to the folder.  I'm not sure what else could be wrong here.

  • How to use Adobe Distiller in Win 2k8 server 64-bit for Financial Reporting

    Hi All,
We need to use the Adobe Distiller in Windows 2008 Server SP2 OS for generating PDF reports in Financial Reporting. However, the Adobe Distiller installation recognises the OS version i.e. 32-bit or 64-bit and installs itself automatically.
Now, the problem is that Hyperion Financial Reporting supports only 32-bit version of Adobe Distiller. Has anyone faced a similar issue or can anyone provide some lead into this?

    Hi Sultan,
    The version is 11.1.2.0
When we were unable to print the PDF reports, we raised an SR during which it was informed that
only 32-bit version of Adobe Distiller is supported. This can also be due to implied dependency. As
per the support matrix, if we use Win 2008 SP2 as the OS, only 32-bit binaries for FR is supported.
Hence, it implies that only 32-bit Adobe Distiller might be supported for generating PDF output.

  • Log in issues with Win 8.1 lap top and Android dev...

To say that I'm annoyed is an understatement.  First off was the issue that just surfaced with Skype on my laptop and PC.  I would be logged into Skype and then for no reason it would shut down, not crash but shut down as though I closed it myself.  I tried two wi-fi networks I have access to and it happened on both.  Then I installed skype on a desk top and it happened again.  Sometimes it would fire up and immediately shut down.  Eventually I found a solution on line by unlinking my windows 8 account to Skype and the problem stopped happening.  My belief is Windows forced an update on Skype that linked it to my MS account without telling me.  Thanks MS, that was really unhelpful and it took me a week to fix.
Then I have tried logging into Skype on my Android phone, 10 inch tablet and Kindle HDX.  Cannot connect to Skype, try entering some rediculously long code they email me but nada, it wont connect.  What on earth is going on here as it used to work fine before MS got hold of Skype.

Problem solved as the issue was to do with the microsoft account.  Ever since Windows 8 I've had many issues on other peoples laptops and my own just because Microsoft want you to have your Skype account linked into your windows account. Previously I've re-installed Skype from scratch in Win 7 type mode and solved the problem and with my Skype which I'd re-installed. I had to unlink it from my Microsoft account.
Clearly and unbeknown to me, Microsoft must have linked it during an update of Skype and that caused Skype to close immediately it had launched. Unchecked the link in Skype and problem solved.  Why cant MS leave things alone if they aint broke !!!!!!

  • LMS 3.2 on Win 2008 Server - Web Server Issue

    Hi,
I just installed LMS 3.2 on Windows 2008 Server Standart X64 and the CiscoWorks Web Server service does not start (Apache service is down but Tomcat up).
All other services seem to be correctly started even if this is quit long.
When I try to manually start the Apache Service with "pdexec Apache", i got :
    ERROR:Get reply from server failed:
ERROR: Daemon Manager startup in progress. Please wait.
When the deamon is up, the second line disapeared but apache is still not responding and of course, the URL is unreachable.
This is a HP Proliant Server with 12Go RAM, is there a maximal size for the paging file ?
I did not modify TMP and TEMP variable, should I have done it before the installation ?
it appears to be some service startup issue on win 2008, is there bug fix or work around ?
    pdshow attached
Thanks for your help, this is quit urgent.
    Cedric.

    >>>  is there a maximal size for the paging file ?
There's indeed a swap file issue with Win 2008. See the first reply in this thread for corrective action: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/675893#675891
Though it may not apply, because you've installed LMS 3.2 ok, since you seem to be aware of it, the TMP/TEMP variables do need to be shortened, as noted in this post: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/677383#677383
Is your Win 2008 Server running any Microsoft Service Packs? Because AFAIK Win 2008 SP2 is not yet supported, and no one seems to have any luck on it with LMS 3.2 yet.
After LMS 3.2 is up and running, if you can't log in to the web GUI, you might be running into the CSCtb17186 bug, described in this post: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/676256#676256

  • MaxDB install failure on Win 2003 Server

    Win 2003 Server
    MaxDB v 7.6.05.09
    HP Proliant G5
    Good morning,
We've got a problem with a MaxDB install on a fresh Win 2003 server.
    - The first install process and the demo database worked fine
    - We tried to create a new database instance and it hung. As nothing was working as expected we decided to uninstall maxdb and all its component and to re-start from a clean process. That's were things are becoming weird :
    - The first time the setup assistant hung when installing the kernel
    - The secund time the setup assistant hung when installing the demo database
    - Every following test hangs when installing the kernel
We tried to do a clean uninstall MaxDB, to watch which registry keys we should restore... but nothings worked as expected.
We found a link at this address describing the same problem but it doesn't provide us anything to solve our problem.
Here is our log file :

    HI there,
it really does look like as the "uninstallation" was done by merely deleting files from the filesystem.
This will always lead to problems when you try to re-install a MaxDB afterwards.
Uninstallations should be done via SDBUNIST to avoid such issues.
Based on the error messages like:
    getRelease():C:/Program Files/SDB/MAXDB1/pgm/kernel.exe not found
MSG: migrate server installation data for INSTROOT "c:/program files/sdb/maxdb1"
MSG: installed package is flaged as invalid => skipping update check
WRN: cannot execute command: xregcomp -u "c:program filessdbmaxdb1pgmdbpinstall": cannot create process, Le fichier spÈcifiÈ est introuvable.
    >WRN: cannot execute command: xregcomp -u "c:program filessdbprogramsliblivecachedbg": cannot create process, Le fichier spÈcifiÈ est introuvable.
we can tell: the MaxDB installation registration had not been deleted correctly.
If I'd to guess, I'd say you just deleted whatever was in the folder "c:program filessdb" and crossed fingers that this would do.
Anyhow, on this system, due to the usage of non-SAP-standard folder layout check this one, the installation registration can by found in the all users data folder:
    >MSG: Template set indep data path to "c:/documents and settings/all users/application data/sdb/data"
This would have to be removed as well.
Anyhow, maybe you want to read the documentation before messing up your system by try and error:

  • DNS FQDN Mavericks 1.9.0 and Server 3.0.1

    Hello everyone.
I’m tstill on my Maverick test server and I can’t get my DNS right. Please help.
    Mavericks 10.9.0 on Server 3.0.1 on 1 MBPro 2011
Mavericks 10.9.0 Client on 2 MacBook Air 2011
Lets say I registered example.com with easydns registrar.
My registrar points to my dynamic IP which only changes only every 8 to 12 months.
Everything look pointed right from my registrar as I hosted test servers many times before.
Coming into the house, I have a 2Wire 2701HG-S Gateway DSL 1.5 Mb/s Modem that does DHCP, NAT and port forwarding * But it does not do any DNS or provide FQDN forward or reverse.
All it does is allocate IPs and slips the ISP search domain and it’s own address for DNS.
I tried with a Linksys WRV201 which only supports DynDNS or TZO
So, for the moment,  I guess. I’m cornered.
1- Do I read correctly that as long as I do not have another machine (Linux, Window, Older Mac server or special router) on my Intranet that does DNS of Mavericks’s FQDN forward and reverse, It is useless for me to even install Server 3.0.1 on Mavericks?
2- Once Mavericks is all installed and self pointing and clients configured to look it up, Can I get rid of the other server that would be just there to FQDN Mavericks server?
3- Can I just take one of my MacBook Air clients, give it a static IP, activate bing and it acts like a DNS server the time that I Get Mavericks server up?
    Francois.

All it does is allocate IPs and slips the ISP search domain and it’s own address for DNS.
What's happening with dynamic DNS and the rest is all outside your network perimeter, and largely irrelevent to anything other than remotely accessing your network.

Your local DNS is the DNS service on your network, and Mavericks Server (and most other servers these days) expects functional local DNS, and most servers (including Mavericks Server) can be configured to provide local DNS, as can some mid-grade firewalls.
No ISP and no dynamic DNS provider can get you local IP address to domain (host) name translations.
Name to address is what everybody's familiar with, but address to name is the basis for SMTP mail spam checks (on the open internet) as well as certificate security and related processing; of user and host authentication.

2- Once Mavericks is all installed and self pointing and clients configured to look it up, Can I get rid of the other server that would be just there to FQDN Mavericks server?
Your local network has a local address space, and your Mavericks Server can and usually should have its own domain name in a domain you've registered, or a subdomain of a domain that you've registered, and not in a domain that's registered by your dynamic DNS provider.  It's possible to use a bogus domain, but thousands of new top-level domains are coming online.   (OS X will not react well to finding its IP addresses differ from the public translation, and you probably don't want to have to mirror all of the dynamic DNS provider DNS locally.)

3- Can I just take one of my MacBook Air clients, give it a static IP, activate bing and it acts like a DNS server the time that I Get Mavericks server up?
Mavericks Server will install and boot with local DNS running, if you don't (incorrectly) tell it to use off-LAN DNS, such as that at a dynamic provider or at your ISP.  (Neither of which provide translations for a NAT'd network, hence mismatched names or changing names or other oddities, hence server confusion.)  You'll get a one-host zone with whatever domain you've chosen, with the local IP address as the translation.
First step after the Mavericks Install (and preferably after registering a domain for your internal use) is configuring DNS on Mavericks Server for your new server and your new domain, setting up static addresses and names for network printers and the internal IP address of your gateway and other such, and assigning the Mavericks Server DNS server IP address to your DHCP server as the DNS server address to vend to clients.
Here's a write-up on the confusion that can arise around dynamic DNS.  Dynamic DNS is good for remote access into your network when you've only got a dynamic IP address but — whether due to other DNS-related issues or ISP port blocks and blacklists that are common with the dynamic IP tier of service, you may eventually graduate to using static IP.  Dynamic IP is good for remote connections into your network, but not so good when you're connecting out for SMTP mail or other services.
FWIW, while you're setting up the network, get out of 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24, as — if you ever decide you want to VPN into your network — the VPN server will have issues.  These subnets are used all over the 'net, and VPNs are based on IP routing, and IP routing doesn't work well when the same subnet is on both ends of the connection.  There are other subnets in 192.168.0.0/16, and there are two other available private address blocks to use.  Changing the IP subnet block is feasible at any time, but the more entrenched the references to the subnet become within your environment, the more effort is required to change it.  Better to get out of the way of any potential VPN usage earlier, rather than later.

  • DNS client service issue

I’ve got a DNS client service issue:
I have a webserver in my local Domain, which is accessible locally only.
One client machine with Windows Server 2012 sometimes cannot access the websites situated on this local webserver. Its event viewer does not contain any issues. The machine can still access the internet. The thing I need to do then, is to restart the DNS client
service on this Windows Server client. After that these local websites are reachable again. The DNS Server is installed on the DC.
What approach could I follow to solve this issue?
    Patrick

Are you using the fqdn (host.domain.tld), a single label name or a custom dns name?
If you use the single label name, dns name resolution depends on the suffixes, make sure these are configured.
If the issue occurs, you could use nslookup to check if the communication with all configured dns servers is working and the required records are there.
Use ping to check if the correct ip with FQDN is returned. No FQDN implies netbios was used for name resolution - no good -> check the dns configuration
If you use a custom dns name, check what IP it resolves (ping/nslookup); is it a server local IP? If not, check if the issue resolves by putting the dns alias in the hostsfile with a local ip (or 127.0.0.1 if the bindings for your site allow)
The issue might also be solely related to the dns cache maintained by the service. You could check if ipconfig /flushdns resolves the issue to confirm. Their is not much configuration or debugging info available on this, but issues I've seen all boil down
to dns servers not being corretcly configured on the client's ip settings.
You could enable the DNS Client Events operational log (eventviewer->applications and services logs\Microsoft\Windows to maybe get more info on the issue.

  • Trying to configure a Win 2003 Server to use TLS server authentication . . .

    I am trying to
configure a Win 2003 Server to use TLS server authentication following Method 2 in KB 895443 - see below:-
Method 2: By using the Certificate Request Wizard
The following steps describe how to obtain a certificate from a Windows Server 2003 Certification Authority. You can also request a certificate from a Windows 2000
Certification Authority. Additionally, you must have Read permissions and Enroll permissions on the certificate template file to successfully request a certificate. Use this method if one or more of the following conditions are true:
You want to request a certificate from an Enterprise Certification Authority.
You want to request a certificate that is based on a template where the subject name is generated by Windows.
You want to obtain a certificate that does not require administrator approval before the certificate is issued.
To obtain a certificate, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type mmc, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
Click Add, click Certificates, and then click Add.
Click Computer account, and then click Next.
If you want to add a certificate to the local computer, click Local computer. If you want to add a certificate to a remote computer, click Another
computer, and then type the name of that remote computer in the Another computer box.
    Click Finish.
In the Add Standalone Snap-in dialog box, click Close, and then click OK in the Add/Remove
    Snap-in dialog box.
Under Console Root, click Certificates (Local Computer).
Note If you configured the Certificates MMC snap-in to manage a remote computer, click Certificates (servername)instead of Certificates (Local Computer).
On the View menu, click Options.
In the View Options dialog box, click Certificate purpose, and then click OK.
In the right pane, right-click Server Authentication, point to All Tasks, and then click Request New Certificate.
In the Certificate Request Wizard that starts, click Next.
In the Certificate types list, click Server Authentication, click to select the Advanced check box,
    and then click Next.
In the Cryptographic Service Providers list, click Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider.
I get as far as step 11 and I get the error message:-
The wizard cannot be started because of one or more of the following conditions:
    - There are no trusted certification authorities (CAs) available.
    - You do not have the permissions to request certificates from the available CAs.
    - The available CAs issue certificates for which you do not have permissions.
This is covered in KB 927066 – see below:-
To resolve the problem, follow these steps:
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group exists in the domain that hosts the certification authority. This group is in the CN=Users container.
To do this, follow these steps:
    Click Start, click Run,
type Dsa.msc, and then click OK.
In the left pane, click the Users container.
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group is in the right
pane. If the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group is not in the right pane, go to step 4.
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group includes the following member groups:
    Domain Users
    Domain Computers
If these member groups do not exist in the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group, go to step 4.
Note If users or computers in other domains need to enroll against the certification authority, you must also add those users and computers to the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group. If the current problem occurs on a domain
controller, you must also add the Enterprise Domain Controllers group to the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group. By default, domain controllers are not members of the Domain Computers global group. Therefore, domain controllers
do not have sufficient DCOM permissions.
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group has the appropriate DCOM Access permissions and DCOM Launch and Activation permissions on the computer that hosts the certification
    authority.
    Click Start, point to Program,
point to Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services.
    Expand the Component Services node.
    Expand the Computers node.
Right-click the My Computer node, and
    then click Properties.
    Click the COM Security tab.
    Under Access Permission, click Edit
    Limits.
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group has Allow Local Access and Allow
Remote Access permissions, and then click Cancel.
Under Launch and Activation Permissions, click Edit
    Limits.
Verify that the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group has Allow Local Activation and Allow
Remote Activationpermissions, and then click Cancel.
Click Cancel, and then close the Component
    Services console.
Settings may be incorrect if any one of the following conditions is true:
The CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group does not exist.
The default membership of the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group is incorrect.
The CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group does not have the correct permissions.
If any one setting is incorrect, run the following commands at a command prompt. Press ENTER after each command.
    certutil -setreg SetupStatus -SETUP_DCOM_SECURITY_UPDATED_FLAG
    net stop certsvc
    net start certsvc
Repeat steps 1 through 3 to verify that all the settings are correct.
Note If the changes affect the group membership of the certification authority server, you must restart the server for the changes to take effect.
The only part of the above instructions which I have not been able to complete is:-
“you must also add the Enterprise Domain Controllers group to the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS group”.
When I click on the CERTSVC_DCOM_ACCESS user then click the Members tab & go to add Enterprise Domain Controllers the option is not there.

    Hi Nick,
Have you successfully set up an enterprise CA?
If yes, is the enterprise CA’s certificate located under the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store?

  • Apache Sling Logging Writer Configuration

    Hi,
I'm having an issue where my custom log writer configuration is not being picked up and used by CQ5 sometimes.  I've created a custom error log writer based on the example provided at http://helpx.adobe.com/cq/kb/HowToRotateRequestAndAccessLog.html which I've installed on an author, replicated it to the publishers, and all seemed ok and working correctly.  The settings are:
    Log File: ../logs/error.log
    Number of Log Files: 5
    Log File Threshold: 200MB
After installing this, the error logs rotated at 200MB resulting in error.log.0, error.log.1 etc as expected.
However after rebuilds on the machines, this configuration was overwritten (as expected).  So I've installed and replicated the package again, but now the configuration is not taking effect.  I'm using the exact same config package as I was previously, but the logs don't seem to be rotating at all now (not even daily).  I've deleted the config from the Felix console on all authors and publishers, reinstalled on the authors, replicated to the publishers, then restarted the CQ5 service on all machines, but it's still not working.
So I have a couple of questions about this:
Is there somewhere else in CQ5 that might be overriding these log writer config settings?
Is ../logs/error.log correct for the standard log file location?  A note in step 3 of Creating Your Own Loggers and Writers on http://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/current/deploying/configure_logging.html states:
Log writer paths are relative to the crx-quickstart/launchpad location.
Therefore, a log file specified as logs/thelog.log writes to crx-quickstart/launchpad/logs/thelog.log.
To write to the folder crx-quickstart/logs the path must be prefixed with ../ (as../logs/thelog.log).
So a log file specified as ../logs/thelog.log writes to crx-quickstart/logs/thelog.log.
The configs in the log rotation example also use ../logs.  However when looking at the default/standard logging writer config, it uses logs/error.log.  Which one is correct?
Any help on what's going on here would be appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    K

    Hi,
I am answering your last question and this one here only.
    1. Log configuration can be override at project via creating config and overriding factory "org.apache.sling.commons.log.LogManager.factory.config-<identifier>" and writer (if required) "org.apache.sling.commons.log.LogManager.factory.writer-<identifier>". So plz check if you have configure log at project level. Now if you are not able to see then plz recheck you log configuration in felix console http://localhost:4502/system/console/slinglog here you can see entire log configuration for CQ system.
    2. both will work but the location will change
         i. CQ 5.5 - log file located under "crx-quickstart" ../logs/<filename>.log will create under this
ii. CQ 5.4 - logs creates under "crx-quickstart\logs" also under "crx-quickstart\launchpad\logs" so if you select ../logs/ it will go under "crx-quickstart\logs" only but you can change wherever you want to store. Again you can see this configuration info at http://localhost:4502/system/console/slinglog
    3. You can also customize you log via creating at project level and assigning the "identifire" (with all other configure parameters) for more information you can refer http://sling.apache.org/site/logging.html apart from earlier share links.
I hope above will help you to proceed. Please let me know for more information.
    Thanks,
    Pawan

    Mr Prakash,
Why are you asking this question multiple times in every forum you can spell?
Valid responses have been presented to you already two times.
Can you explain why you can't follow them up, but continue to abuse this forum by repeating doc questions?

In discussions with the group that builds and maintains the systems (DBA's do not) we have asked for more spindles / hba's / mount points to address this issue. We have been advised that since the RAID 10 spreads the I/Os across multiple drives this is not going to affect the situation.
Our thoughts are that multiple HBAs going to separate RAID 10 devices would help relieve the pressure.
    Thank you.

Is this an internal RAID array? Is it composed of SCSI (SAS) or SATA drives? How many drives are in the array?
Does the RAID controller have a built in battery backed cache (some of Dell's RAID controllers have 128MB, 256MB, or 512MB of battery backed cache). If the RAID controller has a battery backed cache, consider disabling the caching of all read operations, and set the write policy to write-back (see: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/svradmin/5.1/en/omss_ug/html/cntrls.html ).
