DNS Name is not updating of domain controllers
Hi
DNS Host name is not showing FQDN.. See below figure..
How can i change it to FQDN..
The figure is very small to be seen but it seems to be coming from computer properties in ADUC.
In this case, the attribute that is managing this valued is named dDNHostName. You can refer to this KB which might help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240942/en-us

in an attempt to transfer FSMO roles to the 2012r2 DC the first thing I ran was dcdiag /e /c /v and after correcting some minor errors, I came upon this one in the DNS portion where a SRV record is missing and I have no idea how to fix/remove this. there's
only two DCs, 200.5 and 200.6 where the former is a Hyper-V VM running 2012r2 and the latter is a physical 2003r2 machine. I was able to successfully raise the levels to 2003 and join the 2012r2 DC. this missing SRV record does not look fatal and only warrants
a warning from dcdiag, however I would like to fix this so there's no trouble down the road. I've tried ipconfig /registerdns, but no dice. here is the message I'm concerned about:
Error:

Warning: Record Registrations not found in some network adaptersHi Ace Fekay, thank you for your help. I hope you're still with me despite my lack of responding. I needed time to move the VPN server from the DC to a separate VM and then following your instructions to disable WINS Proxy and IP routing. Some of the delay
was when I had to restart the 2003r2 server after disabling those two items since that cause DNS queries to the Internet to go unresolved with only the 2012r2 server. That's been corrected, but running dcdiag /c /e /v still gives some DNS problems. Here's
the latest run of that...

We would like to request Microsoft Remote Desktop (MRD) to behave the same as the open source CoRD.app on OS X with respect URL resolution.
Example:MRD will resolve from Terminal rdp://full%20address=s:<IP or DNS Name>, but not rdp://<IP or DNS Name>
As the OS will respect any of the following protocols in Terminal or browser:
afp://<username>@<IP or DNS Name>
cifs://<username>@<IP or DNS Name>
ftp://<username>@<IP or DNS Name>
ftps://<username>@<IP or DNS Name>
http://<username>@<IP or DNS Name>
https://<username>@<IP or DNS Name>
smb://<username>@<IP or DNS Name>
ssh://<username>@<IP or DNS Name>
vnc://<username>@<IP or DNS Name>
(<username> can be omitted to force authentication at connection) it seems slightly redundant to force "full%20address=s:" in the URL.
Can Version 8.0.1.6 be modified address this request?
What is the proper way to report an enhancement request or bug?
Thank you for your consideration.Hi,
From your description it appears that you want to modify the pattern for assigning the rdp full address but this doesn’t support as per your requirement. That is the default string which we need to have for passing full address.
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

DNS Name is not resolved.
We have VPN 3005 Concentrator (4.7.1) and VPN client 5.0.3. We setup Split tunneling.
When some user opens the application, sometimes the DNS name is resolved, sometimes it is not.
When the DNS name is NOT resolved, we manually put in the IP address of the server. Then, the application is open.
How do we make DNS resolve consistently?
Thanks. You check to check the split-dns settings. Also can this local DNS server (split tunnelled) resolve those names even without the VPN?

Active Directory Integrated DNS Zones, replicate only to specific domain controllers
I have a customer with a fairly large Active Directory forest with many domains that they are trying to consolidate into a single domain which likely take 18 to 24 months according to their timeline. During this time, they would like all DNS zones
to be serviced directly from the new domain controllers, meaning, domain A would have replicas of domain B, C, D, E, etc. Because the environment is complex and some domain controllers in domains other than A are in a very sad state and replication problems
abound, they would like to avoid replicating all zones forest wide.
I've never done this before, or even considered it necessary, is it even possible? I don't have a ton of time for trial and error, but based on this there seems to be some hope:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753801.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
Is this telling me how to do what I want to do?
Thanks

The DNS Server service allows dynamic update to be enabled or disabled on a per-zone basis at each server that is configured to load
either a standard primary or directory-integrated zone.

Edited by: prajesh24 on Jun 16, 2011 11:32 AMHi
The changes to the business partner data flows through the middleware in run time.
But if you assigned the user with some initial name as XYZ. Then change the name of the business partner to X1Y1Z1, then you need to remove the earlier entry in the name of XYZ and assign the new entry X1Y1Z1 manually.
As a standard, it will not update the name in the organisational data in CRM.
Hope this will be helpful.

Gethostbyaddr() and reverse DNS name do not match
So we updated to 10.4.6 on our server... and now none of the clients can connect...
Our DNS and reverse DNS (done by the university IT group) have caps in them... but all the home directories for users are lower case...
How can I fix this - short of entering all home directory info in by hand? Oh - suggesting that the IT group change the DNS is not helpful as it will not happen.
Mac OS X (10.4.6) ServerA summary - Here's the situation:
1. I have a 10.4 server running on a G5 tower.
2. The DNS is operated by the university IT group and our reverse DNS is mixed case... asked and they're not going to change it.
3. 10.4.6 introduced some funky stuff with FQDN, DNS and case sensitivity issues.
So... before I changed anything after the 10.4.6 update... users couldn't log in because it couldn't get their home directories...
The automounter would be looking for:
/Network/Servers/servername.Psychology.McMaster.CA/Users/username
While if you looked in /Network/Servers/ you will see:
/Network/Servers/servername.psychology.mcmaster.ca
(note the case)
Alright - moving on:
4. Tried changing hostconfig HOSTNAME - only worked on local server (and you're not supposed to do this anymore).
5. Used changeip same IP address, lower-case name to mixed case name... now users could log in.... glory!
6. Argh... they can log in, but can only intermittently actually get their home directories... seriously. You log in, see your desktop and flash it's gone... clicking on your home directory or desktop in finder gets you 'The volume for "Desktop" cannot be found'... doing "cd ~" and then "ls" from a terminal window sometimes gets you your directory, a partial directory or an error... and even then the ownership maybe the user or root...
7. Looking in the logs we see:
May 25 14:48:26 client kernel[0]: AFP_VFS afpfs_unmount: /private/Network/Servers/servername.psychology.mcmaster.ca/Users, flags 524288, pid 490
May 25 14:48:26 client kernel[0]: AFP_VFS afpfs_MountAFPVolume: GetVolParms failed 0x16
May 25 14:48:26 client automount[490]: Can't mount servername.Psychology.McMaster.CA:/Users on /private/Network/Servers/servername.Psychology.McMaster.CA/Users: Invalid argument (22)
May 25 14:48:26 client automount[490]: Attempt to mount /automount/Servers/servername.Psychology.McMaster.CA/Users returned 22 (Invalid argument)
May 25 14:48:26 client automount[489]: Can't mount servername.Psychology.McMaster.CA:/Users on /private/Network/Servers/servername.Psychology.McMaster.CA/Users: Invalid argument (22)
(server and client names changed to protect the guilty).
I'm stumped... and it's to the point that the owner of said server (a staunch apple supporter) is asking if I can replace the server with a Linux box with LDAP/AFP/SMB...
Any help here? -
Name server not updated in development configuration after change of SLD
Hi Guys
Hope you can help me with this one.
We have moved our SLD from one server to another.
After this we changed the name server in NWDI and in NWDS.
In NWDS i removed the development configuration and reimported it, but when I do this, a popup box shows the details of the development configuration and the name server is still the old SLD server. This means that when I start the NWDS I get an error saying that the name server host is unreachable.
Where do I change this?
I found out that the name server is setup in the .confdef file under .dtc\0 in the field called name-server-url. If I change this manually in the file, it works. But if I remove the development configuration and reimport it again, I am taken back to the old name server again.
It seems as if something has to be changed in NWDI, but I can't figure out what.
Can anybody help?
Cheers,
Jacob VennervaldHi Jacob,
I would proceed as follows:<br><br>
- login to your new SLD<br>
- go to the technical systems in the landscape area of the SLD<br>
- in the filter drop down select AS JAVA<br>
- check if your NWDI has reported to this SLD in the last 12 or 24 hours, you can check this on the "last update" column<br>
- if your system has reported to this sld the last few hours this is good if not go to the step "change J2ee to new sld" i will descirbe later.<br>
- remember the name of the system here. it is like sid on dbhostname.<br>
- got to sld administration (link on top) choose content maintenace in administration<br>
- in the subset filter select "All with instances" as class set SAP AS JAVA Cluster<br>
- you should find your system there. click on it.<br>
- in the new screen find a link in the middle top <nr> associated instances -> click it<br>
- in the next screen you will see the relationship of the technical system to the rest of the sld data.<br>
- there should be a topic called "hosted application server"<br>
- the should be an entry like: system landscape directory: sld on sid on server -> click it<br>
- here you will see the data for this hosted system. You can find the cim/url definig the SLD you will find the roles. Landscape and name server should assigend and so on here you can chage the SLD url. <br><br>
You can although proceed as follows. This as well requieres you nwdi to report and use this sld in j2ee see below if not.<br>
- on sld startscreen choose landscapes in the landscapes part of sld<br>
- select landscape type nwdi systems<br>
- if there is no landscape you can create one<br>
- in the landscape ypu can assinge systems. The sld should be availabel to choose.<br>
- once in the landscape you can view the system and you can change the CIM Server url and the roles there aswell its just another view on the content.<br>
<br>
you can although check:<br>
- open name reservation from develpoment part of start screen<br>
- here you should find a button about enabling or disabling the sld for nwdi usege. this should be of course enabled...<br>
<br>
<b>"change J2ee to new sld" <br>Ok and here what to do or to check if you are not sure if your NWDI uses/reports to the new sld.</b><br>
- Go to the nwdi server an open Visual admin i asume you are running a 7.0 Di if not let me knoe i can although tell you for CE.<br>
- ok in VA. select on of your server nodes->services->SLD data supplier.<br>
- an overview page will show up.<br>
- select the http settings tab in the lower middle.<br>
- https settings will tell the j2ee where to report to. Verify the data and change if needed. use the lightinigbolt button on top to transfer data to the sld. have a little patiance if your data is not shown immediately in your sld,. it may take 1-2 minutes until it is shown in the gui.<br>
- switch to cim client generation tab. those paraemters will tell your j2ee from what sld to read data from. It is important to understand that you may report to one sld but to read from antioher. depending on your sld landscape. The CIm CLient should use the same Sld as your NWDI uses in CMS setting.<br>
- if all is setup. do a cim client test.<br>
<br><br>
Allright. This is all I know on how the NWDI is integrated in SLD. Hope you can resolve your problem wiht this steps.
<br>
Have a good time<br>

After upgarde Nexus 1000V the product Name still not update on vSphere Client
Hi All,
I encounter the problem after i upgrade the Nexus 1000v to new version 1.1a, but the vSphere Client console sill remain the old version Nexus 1000v 4a. Anyone know how to change it?
Attached screen capture for your reference.
Regards,
JasonHi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
From your description it seems that you are facing issue only with windows 8\8.1. So firstly suggest you to check with application support team, whether they have whole support for application with newer version. Also check once with application support team
regarding this issue.
This issue occurs because the local taskbar does not receive the EVENT_OBJECT_NAMECHANGE event from the system due to a timing issue. The EVENT_OBJECT_NAMECHANGE is needed to update the taskbar title information.
More information (For reference).
The taskbar may not show the application name correctly when using a Terminal Server RemoteApp
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

Hi I am running a virtulized server 2012R2 DC DC02TL.test.local in a lab environment. I want to clone the DC. I am following this tutorial.
http://blogs.technet.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/communityserver-blogs-components-weblogfiles/00-00-00-48-12-metablogapi/0020.clone3_5F00_49D67345.png
I put the DC into the Group of clonable Dcs but somehow the CMDLet

does not seem to recognize that the DC is in that group and fails. I tried to reboot the DC, but no luck.https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2745013?wa=wsignin1.0

The problem I am seeing is that there are contacts on the iPad that are not showing up on the Mac
On the iPad, look in contacts and see if you have more than one group. If it says "all contacts" on the top and there is no red slash to chose lists, then you have just one group. If you see the slash and can choose contact groups, then obviously you have more than one. You probably have a mail account on the iPad setup for contacts and iCloud also setup for contacts.
Go to that mail account on your computer and export those contacts to a vCard file, and import that to iCloud contacts (using the web interface for each). Now with one list, turn contacts off for that account on your iPad so you don't see duplicates. -

Computer name does not auto update in VMM console
The computer name is not updating in VMM console after the following.
- Create VM from scratch, install VM additions, name "VM1"
- Shutdown VM
- Clone "VM1"
- Sysprep clone
- Rename clone to "VM2"
VMM does not recognize the new name even after a few VM reboots. I need to manually right click the VM and select refresh to get the new name to display.
Typically this wouldn't be a problem, but it causes an issue when trying to Remote Desktop from VMM console or from App Controller, the old name is still referenced and therefore tries to remote desktop into old name instead of the new name.
Anyone encounter this?Welcome to the discussions! (post #1 and all)
<pre>hostname -s</pre>
This command is the best way to get the short name of the machine with the DNS suffix stripped away.
Do make sure you click edit in the sharing system preferences to make sure the Local Hostname is truly set and not using the dynamic global host name.
I recall having to change this a while back and am not sure what the default state is for the fields in the Edit... dialog. -
DNS Alias not Updating on Communication Channel
Hi,
We use DNS Aliases when connecting to some of our servers. One interface connects to a server using FTP with alias FTPServer.
This FTPServer had a site switch over the weekend and the DNS Alias did not update in the communication channel. I had to ping the DNS Alias and put the server name into the CC to get the FTP to work.
Is there any way of getting PI 7.1 to refresh the DNS?
Thanks,
GarethCheck out this intersting blog on aliasing.
