Hi,
I have an NEC UX5000 voicemail system that doesn't appear to support DNS Names. Our SMTP host's WAN address changes often. Instead of playing catch-up and change the wan address when someone tells me they are not getting their voicemails, is there a better way to handle this?
I was thinking of some type of IP based DDNS solution. If I could point my mail server to an internal address that never changes, and have that dynamically get the IP of the SMTP server, and then translate it, that would fix my issue.
Your thoughts?

DNS Name not Sharing Name

Howdy all,
I've been noticing and have been dealing with until now that the entry in the DNS Name column doesn't always report accurate.
For example
I have a laptop/desktop named Comp-Mac28-UserName in the Sharing Preferences' Computer Name Field.
ARD reports in it's Name field the same from the Sharing Prefs' as above.
However in the DNS Name, I get one of either the :
• correct name
• Unknown
• blank (as in white space and not the word blank)
• another machine's name (oddly enough, a Windows machine)
Has anyone seen, dealt with this bug, annoyance or feature?

I believe this is due to the TTL (Time To Live) for DNS entries. We just moved over to VLans here and all the machines are grabbing new DHCP IP numbers. Because of this as new computers are moved over they are grabbing numbers of other systems that have been turned off for a while. The old DNS name still exists on that IP. Use Network Utility to see what DNS names are associated with that IP. I bet that more than one name is on that IP number.

Itunes speaker name not supported by this base station

I get this message when I try to enable airtunes on my AX using the new Airport Utility:
--The setting "itunes speaker name" is not supported by this base station--
I have reloaded the firmware, done a couple hard resets, no dice.
Anyone seen this before?
If I try to use the old airport admin utility I don't see the "music" tab used to inspect and change the speaker name and password.
And the AX does not show up in the iTunes speaker list.

Unless it's brand new, to get a signal you'll need to reset to factory default to clear the previous conflicting profile. Refer to the last section "How to perform a factory default reset" on this page:

To confirm successful reset after a minute, you should see the Express's default name (Apple Network ____) in your menu bar's AirPort icon.

Cameras with European names not supported!!!!

I don't have my copy of aperture yet, however I have been reading some of the posts to get ready. As I understood the raw support is build into MacOS, so if you can open a raw files in Preview or iPhoto that particular raw format will also work with Aperture. I was happy to know that apple had just included .MRW (raw for Konica-Minolta 7D) in the last release of Tiger (10.4.3). To my great disappointment however I see that i cannot open .MRW files in Preview nor in iPhoto. So I investigated a little further and found out that people in the US can open the files with no problem. Apparently the issue is the camera name: Maxxum 7D in the US and Dynax D7 in Europe. The same thing is true for Canon for the European version of EOS Digital Rebel XT, the EOS 350D. For Canon a fix has been posted (http://minimal.cx/2005/11/01/make-os-x-1043-understand-canon-eos-350d-raw-files/), but unfortunately nothing for Konica-Minolta. I hope Apple will immediately address this issue, or somebody will come up with a fix.

The issue is indeed just the camera name !!!
The .MRW raw files from my Konica Minolta Dynax 7D were not recognized by either Preview or iPhoto, while in the US owners of Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D (exactly the same camera) could open them.
I edited the Raw.plist in the folder /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources with text edit. All I had to do was to duplicate the listings for the MINOLTA-MAXXUM 7D and change the name of the camera to MINOLTA-DYNAX 7D. Now I can open the .MRW files with no problems and they look fine. I assume they should now work also in Aperture.

Exchange 2010 internal dns name not resovling

We have 2 locations: primary and secondary(DR).
Exchange servers are located in the secondary(DR) location.
site to site vpn tunnel between primary location and secondary location.
All is well, users are able to get their emails UNTIL we
turn off our isp and switch to our backup ISP through a different firewall.
Internal dns still trying to resolve mail.companyname.com to internal ip, but is unable to since the vpn tunnel is broken. RPC over http or outlook anywhere is not establishing connection to external ip of mail.companyname.com thus we all lose connection to
exchange.
When i manually put in external dns server in my PC (for example: 4.2.2.2), mail.companyname.com resolves and outlook works, but then i am unable to get to my internal devices because now PC is forced to look to external dns.
any idea how i can fix this issue? I want outlook to work when i disconnect primary isp and vpn tunnel and force traffic to go through secondary isp.

According to your description, you need to change the configuration of the firewall on your primary site,
let the site can resolve the external ip which the record of mail.companyname.com pointed to.

Wireless Module Not Supported...in the manual it is?

So I ordered this from the HP parts store and received it today and the laptop posts with a Wireless Module Not Supported. WLAN Module ID 702 message.
So how do I proceed from here? Laptop came with an ralink card that only connected at 72Mbps, the atheros AR9285 constantly connects at 65Mbps unless I reset my router every time I connect.
My laptop is a HP Pavilion g6-1a40ca

Looks like modding the bios is the only way I'll get something better into this laptop. All I know is that the two officially supported cards I have right here are terribly slow/flaky. Going by the manual I really don't have any other choice in wireless cards. This is a great laptop for the price, just wish it didn't come crippled.
Oh I know...lol...I'll buy a usb one and soldier it onto one of the usb ports internally. j/k

HT4262 where can I find AirPort utility 5.6 - my old Airport express module is not supported by Airport Utility 6.1. I was directed by the program to this page, but I can not find that application anywhere on Apples's webpages.

Airport 6.1 does not support my Airport module (the second iteration), and tells me to download Airport Utility 5.6. I can not find it via the directed link from Airport utility 6.1 nor anywhere else on Apple's web site. It is also not on the App store.

To install AirPort Utility 5.6 on OS X Lion, follow these steps:
1. Download AirPort Utility from the Support website > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482 Don't open the installer after downloading that.
2. Open Terminal and copy:
cd ~/Downloads && pkgutil --expand ./AirPortUtility56.pkg ~/Downloads/AirPortUtility56 && gunzip -c<./AirPortUtility56/AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg/Payload | sudo tar -C / -xvf - "./Applications/Utilities/AirPort Utility 5.6.app"
3. Open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, type /Applications/Utilities and open "AirPort Utility 5.6", so you will be able to use your AirPort on Lion

Yes it is elsewhere, however I have a Vista 32-bit that doesn't work and a Windows/7 64bit that doesn't work. I think it's just generally "bad code" and OBVIOUSLY the person that was supposed to test it didn't. I can't uninstall on my Vista machine because it will break all my Contacts and Calendar sharing too. Therefore, for now, I guess I will just have to give up on sharing pictures until they get it fixed.
Which, BTW, has been an AWFULLY LONG TIME already. I installed v2 over a week ago and Apple hasn't even acknowledged anywhere I've seen that they have an issue.

Unflatten From String Not Functioning in Mobile Module 2011

Mobile Module does not get updated since version 2011. I am not sure my question will be solved.
I have been using Simple Messaging Reference Library (STM) for a couple of years. I use them in my Mobile Module code too. It has been working fine until lately I updated to the latest version of STM.
I noticed that 'Read Message (TCP).vi' was not functioning properly in the Mobile Module code. After a long debugging, I found the source of the problem. 'Unflattern From String.vi' does not work in Mobile Module any more. I did a test as shown above.
My questions are
1). 'Unflattern From String' was changed so it is not supported in Mobile Module 2011?
2) Why the same code worked before, but not now?
I use LabVIEW 2011 and Mobile Module 2011. Thanks.

Is that the real code or just a mockup to demonstrate the issue? I'm asking because the code is set up to run once and then wait until the stop button is pressed. Then the VI will complete and exit. Is the the desired behavior?

In-place upgrade of Enterprise Manager for RAC databases is not supported

upgrading 2 node RAC from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3 on Windows 2003 64 bit. I got the following:

Now I cannot log in to the database control as sys with sysdba role . I get "invalid username/password" error
I can login as a dba user
I also get a java error after I log in, some thing about class not found, but then I'm in and I can do everything that I try, although I haven't tried scheduling a backup yet
Can I upgrade EM to 10.2.0.3?
If so, how?

Be careful, doing this put the database on QUIESCE mode.

From your description it appears that you want to modify the pattern for assigning the rdp full address but this doesn’t support as per your requirement. That is the default string which we need to have for passing full address.

OS X 10.4.11 Server - configured name and reverse DNS do not match / DNS

Hi all,
I have looked for similar posts but all seem to have different scenarios, hoping to get an answer from someone more experienced than myself before I do anything silly.
Help much appreciated!
Scenario:
We run a 10.4.11 OS X Server on an XServe, hosted at an ISP. ISP provides all DNS services, incl. the reversed DNS entry.
I am currently only running the following services (based on the display in ServerAdmin):
AFP
Firewall
iChat
Mail
QuickTimeStreaming
Web
All others (incl. DNS) are grayed out. (As ISP instructed us not to add a DNS service on our box, that's "normal" according to my experiences with dedicated /co-location server hosting).
We never used changeip after the initial setup, meaning the server's
Current Hostname = somename.local and
DNS Hostname = mail.ourdomainname.net
So in system.log I find this re-occuring entry:
Jul 8 11:41:22 somename servermgrd: servermgr_dns: configured name and reverse DNS name do not match (somename.local != mail.ourdomainname.net), various services may not function properly - use changeip to repair and/or correct DNS
Finally, my question:
As Mail and Web services etc. are currently running OK from what I can tell,
1) do I HAVE to change this at all?
2) Would it be much better / why?
3) Could I change this using the following command
(111.11.111.1 indicating the server's IP address)
changeip 111.11.111.1 111.11.111.1 somename.local mail.ourdomainname.net
4) without running a DNS server on the machine, i.e. DNS service is not required for this to work?
5) obviously I want to be able to use Server Admin after I issue this command...
6) can I fall back easily in case this would screw it up, or is there no risk whatsoever doing this in my case?

If port 443 is already being used on the same box as KMS then it will complain and probably not start the service? I've seen this with LDAP port 636. This is when Kerio is installed on a server configured as an OD Master. Clearly the port can't be used by both servers.
It might be easier to change the port your sites are currently using to something else? Although don't do anything yet. Pose the question to Kerio Support and see what advice they offer.
Yes moving the mail to a local folder on the mail client will do it.
Is Kerio going on the same box? If its a different box (presumably different IP address?) Then what you can do is to port forward to the new server's IP address instead of disabling it. This way while you are bringing the new server on line users can still send mail right up until the time you give instructions on changing their inbound/outbound mail server details. Of course they won't be able to receive but if you time it right they may not even get an error message? Depends on what their schedules are.
If it was me I would choose IMAP every time. As the mail admin you have full control and a central location for easy backup. KMS has a built in archiving feature that makes this a simple process. This is an easier option than going round individual client machines and making sure mail held locally in POP accounts are backed up. Besides there is always someone who falls through the loop and I'm not taking into account drive failures. It makes good sense anyway as there is talk of legislation being introduced to make this a requirement for businesses who run their own mail servers. This is certainly true for certain parts of the US and what usually happens there is generally taken up in the UK and most parts of Europe.
Kerio's WebMail Client means users don't even have to have their own computer. Just as long as they have access to one that has access to the internet they can send/receive mail. No need for dedicated mail applications such as Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Entourage etc. How mail is uses remains consistent for all users.
Yes. I did this not so long ago with Leopard's built in Mail Server. I sent an e-mail defining a time when no inbound mail would be received. Disabled port forwarding for SMTP port 25 and approx 30 minutes after that another mail stating no outbound mail should be sent. Once everything was swopped over (we were changing from a G4 10.4 server to a G5 10.5 Server) port 25 was enabled, new server brought online and everyone was mailing again with no appreciable downtime.
These boxes were to have the same IP address hence the slightly different approach.

Jwsc ant task WL 9.1 does not support module and jwsfileset?

Hi!
I am doing some work using the WL9.1 tools in order to build and deploy web services.I have successfully used the jws tasks though while I have several files that I want to compile automatically I went through the WL documentation and the use of
jwsc ..with nested tags Module and jwsfileset
Though when I try to invoke the Ant task I get
'The <jwsc> type doesn't support the nested "module" element'
Any idea? Is it because of my 9.1 installation?do i need 9.2?
my task is something like

Ok the answer was easy I suppose!Check the documentation of 9.1 and 9.2 the ant tasks do not have the same specs!
