DNS request for Adobe

I was running Wireshark (checking something else) and noticed that every 90 seconds there is a DNS request/response for www.adobe.com. The requests continue withour Adobe Reader running. Two things puzzle me: What is doing it? Why is it doing it?
Normally following a DNS request you would expect to see some sort of activity at the TCP or UDP level to the resolved address, but here there is none.
AK

Good suggestion, but all it can tell me is what makes the dns request - lookupd - it doesn't say what process asked it to make the request.
I had already turned off Adobe Reader, without stopping the requests, so I tried Mail, which also had no effect. Next went Safari, and the requests stopped, and restarting Safari didn't restart them, at least not so far.
Strange.

  • How to drop DNS requests for banned sites?

    Hi
I'm looking to create a number of signatures to drop DNS requests for banned sites, the only way I've successfully implemented this is creating a signature (string UDP), to drop any UDP/53 traffic containing the regex string of banned site.
I would like clarification from any experts to verify that this is the only way of acheiving this, I know that there's a Service DNS Engine, but I can't seem to specify the FQDN within this. I'm not sure if I'm missing something?
    Many thanks

You're on the right track. A custom UDP signature is the only way you'll find the requests you want to drop.
The DNS engine does not allow for custom string matches.

  • SL constantly making DNS requests for "local" ?

I've been troubleshooting a problem with my DSL router crashing and noticed that my Macs continuously, even when idle, have nearly 200 open connections at any given time, whereas my Windows boxes peak at 50 and drop down to under 10 when idle. The Macs are running SL 10.6.2.
Poking around in the router logs, I found that the Macs are constantly making udp DNS requests to my router, even when I'm not browsing or doing anything else. tcpdump of udp and port 53 gives me the following:

192.168.0.8 is my Mac and 192.168.0.1 is my DSL router. The Mac is ip'd using DHCP on the router. The router sends DNS requests from my clients out to my ISPs DNS servers.
Eventually, the DNS requests timeout and I get this:
    00:21:43.145103 IP 205.171.3.65.53 > 192.168.0.8.52959: 38258 NXDomain 0/1/0 (98)

    00:21:43.763304 IP 205.171.3.65.53 > 192.168.0.8.50265: 62399 NXDomain 0/1/0 (98)
    00:21:44.049705 IP 205.171.3.65.53 > 192.168.0.8.59991: 5960 NXDomain 0/1/0 (98)
It's a never-ending cycle that eventually kills my router.
If I'm reading the tcpdump output correctly, SL appears to be looking for some server named "local" 3 times every second. The TTL is roughly 90 seconds, so 3 requests/second gets me to an average of 180 connections at any give time -- which is approximately what my router is showing. If I do start browsing the connection count goes even higher. Trying to use both Macs at the same time has caused my router to crash due to running out of memory (it's obviously a very weak router .
Can someone give me some insight into what SL is doing and how I can stop this?
    Thanks,
    Randy

Does this server handle DNS requests?
If so, make sure under the local static IP for DNS servers you can try 127.0.0.1, and server IP.
Under the DNS tab make sure you have the ISP IP's under forwarder.
As a safety open terminal and run
    su changeip -checkhostname

  • Redirect all DNS requests for a certain domain to a specific DNS Server

    Hello,
I have setup a home lab to do some Microsoft training on. My lab domain name is "demo.lab". What I want to do is configure my cisco router to forward any dns requests to demo.lab to my Active Directory Server.
    For example
If I ping mail.demo.lab, I want that reqest to be forwarded to my lab domain controller (dc01.demo.lab).
I have configured a SOA record on the Cisco router like so, but it still does not foward the reqest on (10.10.10.10 is the IP address of dc01.demo.lab).
    ip dns primary demo.lab soa 10.10.10.10 postmaster.demo.lab
Any clues as to what i'm missing?
    Thanks

    Hi Karsten,
Yep my computer had the router as its primary DNS Server. The config you supplied worked! Thanks very much :)
    Hi Cisco Freak,
Yep my AD server was also a DNS server. Yes that was one option, but I just didn't want to keep changing my DNS as my laptop goes to/from work with me. The config that Karsten supplied worked though.
    Hi Terry,
Thanks for the link. I believe I had configured it correctly as per that docuemnt, but it didn't work for some reason. Still go reference material though.
    The other option would have been to configure the router to use my AD server as its primary name server host like so;
    ip name-server 10.10.10.10
    ip name-server 8.8.8.8
The only problem would be that if/when my DC is offline, there would be a small delay when doing DNS requests, and since my internet is shared with my house mate, I didn't want to disrupt her too much.
    Thanks again for your help!
    Cheers
    Peter

  • Feature Request for Adobe Camera Raw CC

Cinema DNG Videographers / Cinema Photographers using ACR to debayer footage...
Feature request to export / save video files directly from ACR - - > Option to create video files with fps.
Note: The option to export video does exist within the main menu of Photoshop. However, this does not apply to image sequences when imported into ACR.
    Uses:
Current workflow for using ACR requires applying color correction and/or image presets to footage in order to process DNG image sequences.
When shooting Cinema DNG files the image sequence is likely to be hundreds or even thousands of photos in length. These files could be processed with ACR and no other application.
Adobe Media Encoder does not accept 16-bit Tiff sequences (CS 5.5).
AE and Premiere CC accept 16-bit image sequences.
Why import into AE and CC just to set FPS?
Why import into AE and CC just to export proxy files & additional video files?
May be a very applicable option for 64-bit & 256-bit background processing?
    Why make this feature applicable?
ACR is remarkable at debayering DNG images.
ACR processes DNG files faster than AE.
ACR enables user color-correction presets as well as secondary Look Up Tables (LUTs) to be applied to image sequences (potential investment for Kodak, Fuji and other color-correction houses).
ACR has the potential to offer users the ability to acquire a single application for processing DNG image sequences without having to purchase an entire post-production software suite.

  • How can I view the IP or DNS address for Adobe Media Server

Hello, I am trying to use AMS to conduct a live school news broadcast. Currently I can view the stream using `localhost,` but how can I figure out what IP or DNS address to use to make the stream public. While I can stream on the same network the viewers are on, I'd like to make it visible to anyone.

Are you streaming from your own PC?!
For local tests, you can get your ip address by opening a command line and running ipconfig.
Assuming that your PC's firewall doesn't block the relevant ports, then others on your network could see it by replacing "localhost" with that ip.
For release... you may want to move your server.

  • Routing DNS requests in a zone to a default host

    Hi,
What I'd like to do is to direct all DNS requests for non-existent hosts to a single host by default. So even if I haven't defined a hostname in my zone, the request will still resolve (to this default host). Any ideas?
    Ben

It's possible to do via wildcard DNS, but you cannot do it via Server Admin (it doesn't permit the * for the wildcard name), therefore you have to get under the hood and edit your zone file directly.
You'll need to find your zone's domain file in /var/named and add a line like:
    *  IN  A  1.2.3.4
(where 1.2.3.4 is, obviously, the IP address you want all unknown addresses to point to).
You'll also need to increment the serial number in the SOA record near the top of the file (otherwise your change won't be noticed)
Restart named (e.g. via killall -HUP named or via Server Admin), and now any lookup for an unknown host will return the specified address.

  • Load Balancing DNS requests

I would like to use the CSS to load balance DNS requests for a telnet applicaion. I don't want my telnet sessions to go through the VIP, I want them to go directly to my host. I would like the CSS to run TCP health checks on port 23 and return the best DNS address based on least connections. I know you can do HTTP redirects, but I am not sure how to accomplish this with telnet traffic.
Thanks for the help, sample config would be appreciated.

You could the information in this doc to configure health checks. But I am not too sure about the redirection and load balancing for telnet traffic. May be someone else could help.

  • Request for New Features in Adobe Application Manager

Creative Cloud has been around for a year now and Adobe Application Manager has been the tool to update and download new apps. AAM works fine but, it's so minimal, ever since then I've been waiting for Adobe to release a more useful version.
Here are some essential features that would make Adobe Application Manager more useful...
    - Make the AAM window resizeable. If a window contains a long list of items why would it be locked at a short height? Just let the user expand the window as large as they like to view all items.
    - Show the version numbers next to the application titles. User should be able to see the version of the available update as well as the version currently installed on user's computer.
    - Show the available app's download size in MB. And, while downloading show the MB progress/totals not just a percentage.
    - Allow user to pause downloads.
    - Show a short description of the application under each title. Or, at least make a link to the application's webpage.
    - Add an Uninstall option for user's existing apps.
I currently have Version 7.0.0.324 of Adobe Application Manager. Please let me know if there is some other more advanced version of AAM or if I'm overlooking some existing features.
    Thanks.  Den.
