DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds

Hi
Why it is saying DNS request timed out was 2 seconds and showing the IPs under non-authoritative answers?
This is member DC windows 2008 R2. Primary DNS is set as 127.0.0.1 and secondary DNS is set to 192.168.10.6 which is main DC.

I am having an issue with one of my domain controllers (Server 2012 R2). It is a DNS server as well and it times out 100% of then time when attempting connect to either of the two trusted forests that are setup as conditional forwarders. There is also a
delay or a time out the first few times when attempting to resolve an external site such as google.com. The domain controller functions fine. All routing seems to fine, because I can telnet on port 53 to the trusted forest's DCs. They can even use the problem
DNS server to resolve hosts. It just does work from my controller to the other forest. Here is an example of what is happening.

There is a firewall between these networks, they connect via campus fiber. I created an any rule to rule that out. I am thinking the DNS server is corrupt, but I cannot figure it out.
Dcdiag /test:dns says everything is great.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the problem DC is configured with conditional forwarders to resolve names about other 2 trusted forests, and always times out. Besides, there is a delay or a time out the first few times when attempting
    to resolve an external name.
Use NSlookup to confirm that if the conditional forwarder works. Open CMD on problem DC, type the command below and each line end with enter:
    Nslookup
Server <IP address of the condition forwarder which used to resolve names on trust domain>
<name of the trust forest which you want to resolve>
If it works, try to increase time-out period:
Properties of Conditional Forwarders – Number of seconds before forward queries times out
    – change the time.
If it doesn’t work, turn on exhaustive debugging mode. Open CMD on problem DC, type the command below and each line end with enter:
    Nslookup
    Set d2
Server <IP address of the condition forwarder which used to resolve names on trust domain>
<name of the trust forest which you want to resolve>
    Post the result here.
Besides, for internet/external name resolving problem, we usually have another DNS server(except for DCs) which connected to Internet/external and used to resolve external/Internet names. And on DCs, configure forwarder and use forwarder to resolve external/Internet
names. If it is your case, check the forwarder setting on the problem DC, or use ping to test the network connectivity. Confirm that if the delay of name resolving caused by network delay.

  • Nslookup: DNS request timed out. time out was 2 seconds. (When the primary DNS is down)

    Hi All,
I have set up 2 Windows Server 2012 domain controllers (DCA & DCB). DCA points at DCB as the primary DNS, and itself as the alternate DNS. DCB points at DCA as the primary DNS, and itself as the alternate DNS.
When both DCs are running and if I do an nslookup on DCA: The result is as follows:
    Default Server: dcb.testdomain.com
    Address: 30.30.30.2
    nslookup on DCB:
    Default Server: dca.testdomain.com
    Address: 30.30.30.1
    Client PC (Windows 7 Pro):
    1st DNS : 30.30.30.31
    Alternate DNS: 30.30.30.32
    nslookup on the client PC
    Default Server: dca.testdomain.com
    Address: 30.30.30.1
Up to here everything is fine. Now if I turn off DCA, and do an nslookup, the result is as follows:
    DCB nslookup:
    DNS request timed out.
           time out was 2 seconds.
    Default Server Unknown
    Address: 30.30.30.31
    Client PC nslookup:
    DNS request timed out.
           time out was 2 seconds.
    Default Server Unknown
    Address: 30.30.30.31
I waited for more than 15 minutes an tried again, it didn't help.
I have been reading a few similar posts on this matter, but couldn't find the answer.
I would  expected it to display the DCB when I do an nslookup.
Question 1: Shouldn't that display DCB rather than displaying a time out message when I do nslookup?
Question 2: The fact that it displays a time out message, does it mean that more configuration needs to be done? If so please kindly advice what needs to be done.
I did an ipconfig /displaydns command. I realized that the order of DNS have changed on both DCB and the Client PC:
Now, they both display DCB on the top of the list, whereas they were displaying DCA on the top of the list prior to the shut down.
Question 3: Does it mean that the Client PC now knows that the 1st DNS is down and so it's using the 2nd DNS?
If so, why does the nslookup display the time out message?
Question 4: Is it possible to configure either of DNS Server or the DNS client, so it displays the 2nd DNS when the first DNS is not accessible and when I do nslookup?
    Thank you for.

    Hi Ton_2013,
Based on my understanding, the issue we are experiencing is that: when the primary DNS server is down, the result of the tool Nslookup is to diaplay the time out message at first. Right?
Based on my knowledge, timed out message is means that the server did not respond to a request after a certain amount of time and a certain number of retries. Because the primary DNS server is down, it can't respond to this request and time is out. When
the primary DNS server can't respond, the secondary DNS server works to ensure effective work. And the order is changed as you said.
As to the reason why the result is still the same even when the order has changed, we can try to use Network Monitor to capture network traffic and view and analyze it to find the cause. And the cause may be the cache. For your information, please refer
to the following link to download the tool Network Monitor:

  • DNS issues from one domain controller to another (but not the other way) nslookup DNS request timed out

    Hi All
I've been trying to trudge my way through an issue our client is having but I'm getting nowhere fast. This issue was discovered when searching for why users at our second site were experiencing slow logons every morning (5-10minutes to login).
Within our domain there are two domain controllers for the child domain we manage.
DC1 has connection back to the parent DC's (managed by our clients parent company), and also replicates both ways with DC2. DC2 is at another site, on another subnet and replicates to and from DC1 only.
DC2 appears to have no issues, it can resolve any address, nslookup either using itself or DC1 is fine and name servers resolve fine.
DC1 has massive issues with DC2 - using it for nslookup gives me the following:
I get this timeout error for internal and external names, but both DC's are able to ping and access internet with no issues.
When trying to resolve name servers from DC1, DC2 sits at 'validating' for a while and then comes back with 'a timeout occurred during validation'.
Restarting DNS Server, NETLOGON and registering in DNS from DC2 had DC1 talking to it fine for a few minutes, but then it went back how it is (and I haven't been able to replicate this fix since).
Reverse DNS zones are setup for all the subnets used, there are A records and PTR's for both DC's.
Performing 'ping -a dc2.ip.address' from DC1 comes back fine - it knows what it is in both directions (name and IP) but nslookup and nameserver resolution is still failing.
I just don't know where to go from here - from everything I've read they should be happy... Any ideas?

    Hi,
When NSLOOKUP starts, before anything else, it checks the computer's network configuration to determine the IP address of the DNS server that the computer uses.
Then it does a reverse DNS lookup on that IP address to determine the name of the DNS server.
If reverse DNS for that IP address is not setup correctly, then NSLOOKUP cannot determine the name associated with the IP address.

  • Error msg itunes store request timed out

i keep getting the msg "we could not complete your itunes store request. the request timed out. there was an error in the itunes store. please try again later" what is going on that i can no longer access itunes store??

I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried emailing Itunes support and they are morons. They completely fail to address teh problem. I emailed them reminding them that my computer far exceeds their requirements and that I don't have any other programs running but I haven't heard back yet. I'm planning to challenge the charge on my credit card. I will never purchase anything from Itunes again.
    Here is what they suggest:
    1) To use iTunes, your PC must meet the Windows system requirements listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
(Note that installing the latest version of iTunes will not affect your library or any items in your account waiting to be downloaded.)
    2) Quit as many other open applications as you can before playing videos in iTunes.
    3) Wait for all iTunes Store purchases to finish downloading before playing videos.
    4) Disable all non-Microsoft startup programs and services

  • Yesterday my ipod touch 4g would connect and to wifi and i was able to go on safari and search etc. but last night at 11 pm it would say that it was connected to wifi but wouldn't connect to safari it would say request timed out

it would say request timed out so i restored my ipod erased and reset it hoping it would delete the problem but it was still there it says that it is connected to wifi but will not launch safari and will bring up that message request timed out. itunes app store anything that uses internet/wifi will not work. it is not in airplane mode and wifi is on. i also forgot to mention this but it would also sometimes say that it is not connected to the internet even though i have 3 bars of wifi.

The router itself will always be sending a signal to devices connected to it.  The router could not even be connected to your modem and it will still show that you have a connection on your device.  Check your router config, reset it, and if all fails, contact your internet service provider.

  • "Publishing to YouTube failed. The request timed out." - This was a 54:10 long project  and "share to DVD" was OK

Another long project (54:10) and new problems .
I am not a frequent FCP user and during my last major project a couple of months ago I experienced "Share operation DVD has failed, QuickTime Error 0" and "QuickTime error - 50"  when exporting to YouTube. Thanks to Ross I overcame then both challenges.
The current project is 54:10 and "share to DVD" went reasonably well. However, during burning several copies (20 copies) of the same DVD, at the very end of the operation I received a message "There was an error buring your disk, The operation could not be completed (DSP Publishing error - 29)". This was puzzling because the copies when played seem all rirght and usable.
Is there any remedy regarding the above (not so important as the copies are playable) and the "Publishing to You Tube failed. The request timed out" ? Sharing to YouTube took over 8 hours and the counter went up from 1 to 100. Any suggestions, please ?
    Warm regards.

Thanks for warning. Will not touch the library bundle any more. However, I will describe the current situation:
Under "Libraries">"Macintosh HD projects and events"> (five items).
    These five items are:
    1. "Updated projects" - containing 2 projects ("Italy" and "Cracow") and 1 footage/clips "Cracow" only;
    2. "Xmas" - containing 1 project ("Xmas" ) and the corresponding footage ("Xmas");
    3. "Rome" - containing 2 projects ("Pandas" and "Rome") and 2 footages ("Pandas" and "Rome");
    4. "New Even Wednesday 11 December 2013" - empty (message  "import media");
    5. "Italy" - no projects, just footage of "Italy"
What a mess  I have made ! - It appears that project "Italy" could be moved from 1 to 5.  A new event (?) called "Pandas" could be created with its own project and footage. No 4 could be deleted. No 2 is OK.
    Please comment.
    I appreciate your patience

  • HOW TO: Resolve 'An error has occurred: Request timed out' issue

    Post Author: fmi-charles
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
After doing a new install of BOE Server software, encountered a problem viewing long running reports on-demand.  InfoView displayed: 'An error has occurred: Request timed out.' Couldn't find answers anywhere (not even on this site) that would help me resolve this issue.  So, I decided to post the resolution.
The error from this post's subject line is displayed when viewing on-demand reports that run for longer than 90 seconds.  If the report was scheduled, it wouldn't have a problem - only viewing on-demand.  This issue transpires with the following setup:   * M$ Windows 2003 Server   * IIS v.6   * .NET 2.0.50727   * BO Enterprise Server XI R2 SP2   * M$ SQL Server 2005
The resolution is to find the 'machine.config' file for your current version of the .NET Framework (e.g. C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework \v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config).  Edit the file and place the following into a new line within the 'system.web' section: <httpRuntime executionTimeout="3600"/>
The timeout is set in seconds.
Then, restart IIS using the command line.

  • Slow reports giving "An error has occurred: Request timed out" on first run

    I have BO XI R1 SP4 installed on Windows 2003 R2 SP3 with .Net 1.1 installed.
Most of our reports are quite large (>60000 rows returned) and will timeout in InfoView when first run and give the message in the subject. When you close the window and re-run them then they come up almost straight away.
This tells me that the report runs and it gets stored in the cache server, which is fine, but I want to be able to eliminate the timeout for the users.
I found a solution if .Net 2.0 is installed (HOW TO: Resolve 'An error has occurred: Request timed out' issue) but my server only has .Net 1.1.
Is there a change to a timeout I can made to the server as it is, or should I install .Net 2.0 and change IIS to use that version of .Net then make the solution change already suggested?
    TIA
I should add that the timeout is after around 5 minutes, so the normal changes recommended at note 1198539 doesn't seem to apply, as the timeout happens after the normal 90 seconds expires for some time.

Will something like this work on an iPhone and where would I locate it?  My App Store was working just fine and this last week it's been slower and slower, plus difficulties with downloading and updates. Both my downloads and updates start and then pop up a 'can't install at this time'. I thought it might b my storage space so I started deleting. Well I have plenty of space now and still get same problem.
Now over the last two days I will type in a search to reinstall the apps that I removed and the App Store tells me request timed out.
    Help please

  • The transaction is no longer active - Transaction timed out after 30 second

We have an intermittent error here, and I'm a rookie. The error results in a 500 being sent to the customer every 10th-20th POST and only occurs under heavy load. The heavy loading is over the for the day, but it'll be back.
My first suspicion was the app code doing transaction work and having database performance problems. But the app is non-transactional and the database is fine. The server farm nodes (4) are all experiencing the problems at equal rates, and the other apps on the farm are fine, so it appears to be app-specific rather than rooted in server state or database state.
I looked at the stack a little more closely and it appears to be some kind of internal persistence issue, but a completely foreign one to me. We have no Persistent Stores configured, so I don't know where to even start on this puppy.

This was actually my first conclusion as well. But when I went to the Data Source for this connection, I found it's a non-transactional driver. That's what made me go back and give the trace a second look. I don't see any references to the Data Source in question. It's OpenJPA stuff and Session persistence stuff.Non-XA drivers can still participate in an XA transaction via a variety of JDBC data source options - for example, labeled "1PC" and "LLR" on the console. (If you want to understand the particulars search for "JTS" or "LLR" in the JDBC edocs).
You seem to be suggesting maybe the setting can be made in a config doc, possibly of the app itself, right? Right. EJBs have a transaction-timeout attribute.
As opposed to setting it in the console. WebLogic has a domain wide default transaction-timeout setting that can be set on the console, but I tend not to recommend using it. In addition, there's something called a "deployment plan" which can be used to override some of the common EJB attributes via configuration, but I'm not personally familiar with its usage.
But isn't the setting vapor if we're using a nonXA driver? No.
I wonder if this thing couldn't be telling me it's waiting on the persistence subsystem to come available to store simple session data? Sometimes the problem is that there are periodic app requests that are more complex/larger than others. Sometimes the system is simply overloaded, and takes 30 seconds to honor a request that might normally take 10 seconds.
That other app is all about persistence. What if app2 is sucking some persistence subsystem dry and app 1 is waiting just to store session data? Could be.
If the nonXA thing really does kill the quick timeout workaround, how could I health-check the persistence subsystem?Don't know. At a wild guess I'd check for CPU's at 100% on all involved serves, and examine database stats.

After searching thru the internet, I've found :
    CSCsb46264
Symptoms: When a dialer interface is configured as an endpoint for a  IPSec+GRE tunnel, tracebacks with bad refcount may be generated.
Conditions: This symptom is observed on a Cisco 837 when router-generated packets such as routing updates are being switched.
Is that possible that the root of the problem was that ? Thank you.

  • Request timed out when purchasing music. Fresh install of Win7.

For the past couple months I have have not been able to purchase music off iTunes without first going into Add/Remove programs and doing a "Repair" to iTunes. Windows Firewall wasn't blocking anything from Apple and even with the firewall totally disabled I would still get the "Request timed out" error. And at the same time I'm getting these errors, a Podcast can be in the background downloading or I can be previewing a song! I eventually gave up and just figured its some random windows bug that isn't very common or its just another example of iTunes sucking for Windows and Apple not caring. I just purchased most of my music off AmazonMP3 which I've been doing more and more of anyway.
Yesterday I installed a new HDD and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium from my retail disc. I Installed all the updates then proceeded to install my software and put all my media back in-place. I'm a backup neat-freak so all this happen pretty easily and fast. I purchased a song off iTunes and was pleased to see it working again. Well here I am again suddenly having the issue with the connection timing out when purchasing a song. Firewall is configured fine and again I even disabled it. I know its not Windows now as there haven't been any new Drivers or Updates installed since I last purchased a song. I even tried different network adapters! What the heck is going on?

This error is specific to RAS. The default CORBA request timeout is 10 minute = 600000 ms. When the RAS SDK does not get the reponse back from RAS server in 600000 ms it throws this message. Why it works in InfoView\CMC what I believe you refer to as "Front End' application is because InfoView\ CMC don't use RAS.
    1. First make sure that a smaller report wich runs pretty fast ( 1-2 min) works. This will confirm that there is no connectivitiy issues between RAS and RAS SDK.
    2. If you get the efrror for every single report, even the smaller ones, make sure the box running RAS and RAS SDK code( in case they are 2 different) can ping each other with IP, shortname and FQDN. If there is a firewall between them, the RAS port needs to be opened for bidirectional communication. By default RAS chooses a random port for communication with SDK but within CMC you can configure it to use a specific port and open it.
    3. If the issue is specific only to reports that are long running, typically more than 10 minutes, then you need to inclease the CORBA timeout to a value more than what the reports typically would take to process. This is done on client code side or IIS in this case.
    Here are the steps:
Make the following changes on the application server/system.
Open RegEdit by going to Start > Run and typing in regedit.exe. Then click Ok.
    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Report Application Server\Client SDK\CorbaAdapter
Change the value of SendRequestTimeout(ms) to 100000.
Change the value of WaitReplyTimeout(ms) to 6,000,000 ms. The default value is 600,000 ms and may not be long enough.
Restart IIS by going to Start > Run and typing in iisreset. Then click Ok.
    Retry the failing application.

This error should be easy to fix

  • Request Timed Out when server is plugged in!

    1 - Error - DNS-Server-Service 404
The DNS server could not bind a transmission Control Protocol (TCP) scoket to address 10.10.10.3. The event data is the error code. An IP address of 0.0.0.0 can indicate a valid "any address" configuration in which all configured IP addresses on the computer are available for use. Restart the DNS server or reboot the computer.
    Does the DNS Service stop?
Can you confirm that no other application is listening on port 53?
    Also, what is handling DHCP?

So I am facing the weirdest network/server problem ever!I have a customer which had a Supermicro server (Was there before me!). It was never used and they didn't know the password so i decided to format and re-install Windows Server 2012 R2 on it. I promoted it to a new domain and setup Windows Essentials so I could setup RDWeb for them quickly. They were up and running great. I also installed Trend Micro on the server and pushed it out to the client PC's. A little more info about my network before i get into the gritty. I have Brighthouse cable 35Mbps as an ISP with an ARRIS modem, a Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite as my firewall and a cisco sg200-26 as my core switch. It's not a big location. We randomly started getting request timed out at the gateway level and the firewall level from outside and internet was dropping. We worked for weeks...

How can I be able to determine the cause of this because the sql mgmt studio brings in the data really well at 15 seconds with hundreds of rows?
I am not trying to lessen the time for getting this data which one thing would be to reduce the amount of fields needed to lower reaction time for retrieving the data. I am just wondering why is it giving me this and what plans can I do to avoid these errors
    from happening again?

    Hi Elvin,
The issue might be related to the executionTimeout setting of the Web application. If you view the report in the report manager, please use the following steps to modify the web.config file:
Navigate to <Drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRSX.<InstanceName>\Reporting Services\ReportManager, back up and then open the web.config file.
    Search for httpRuntime.
Add maxRequestLength="100000" to the line of code, and reset the executionTimeout value so that the line looks like this:
    <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="100000" executionTimeout="90000" />
If you view the reports on a SharePoint site, please modify the web.config file of the SharePoint Web application. For example, if the SharePoint Web application uses 80 port, then its web.config file is located in the C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80
    folder.
    Hope this helps.
