DNS Server does not resolve new generic Top Level Domain names- CNR configuration issue?

Hi all,
I am not sure if this is the correct community to post this question, but I will give it a try. I noticed that the users of my network cannot resolve web sites using new top level domain names, like ".education", ".international", etc. I have an internal DNS server made by Infoblox and a Cisco CNR v6.3.3.1 as an external DNS server. Infoblox uses CNR as its forwarder and CNR uses the root DNS servers for queries.
I would think that CNR was the problem because it is an obsolete product but after speaking with a fellow engineer at another organization where they still use an older version of CNR than mine, they have no problems at all. So now I am thinking it is a setting either on Infoblox, or on CNR I need to change. I can see Infoblox is forwarding the requests to CNR but that's about it. I am not sure if CNR is discarding the request. When I do an nslookup from a PC in my network it does not matter if I set my DNS server to be the Infoblox or the CNR. Neither resolves the URL.
Then again, no matter what I lookup using the CNR as my DNS, I only get a response with the root DNS names and IPs!
Any help is appreciated!

Hi Constantinos,
Have you taken a look at the infoblox community site?  We've just reposted your question there and alerted some internal SMEs that should provide a solution soon.

  • How to block top-level domain names in rules for EOP?

Using EOP for email filtering to/from our on-premise Exchange server.  How do I block entire top-level domains in the rules section under mail flow?  For example, w need everything ending with .link blocked.  Right now I
have only been able to block email addresses and full domain names.  I know I can setup a transport rule in our exchange, but I'd prefer EOP handle this before like it should. Thanks in advance.

If you're using EOP and your goal is to block stuff coming from a certain geographic area then you need to go to your exchange admin center select Protection>content filter>Default Policy>International Spam>Filter email messages sent from the
    following countries or regions

  • ICal error:  Server does not recognize your password

Today I opened iCal on my iMac and I get an immediate error message saying that the "server does not recognize my password for my user name and says to make sure that it's entered correctly." I went to MobileMe in System Settings and everything was OK. I was able to see it on the MobileMe website but it still gives me the error message when I open iCal.

Today, I had this exact same issue. What helped was quitting iCal, deleting the cal.me.com password in keychain, starting iCal again, then entering it again in iCal preferences. It started syncing right after that.
People who don't have the cal.me.com password should check their general mobile me settings.
Ghostlarke: if you sync your calenders, you ARE using MobileMe.

Thank you for posting the ipconfig /all, but we can't use it since the relevant data that we need to evaluate has been blocked out. I can understand if you have a strong security policy.
The Conditional Forwarders shouldn't be causing you to not to resolve specific domain names.
How long has this been going on?
What exactly occurs? Does DNS stops totally responding when you test it with nslookup, or are you just testing it with Internet Explorer?
If you have nslookup tests and responses, it may be helpful to see them, but if your security policy prevents you from posting them, I understand.
I'm curious about this part that you posted:
    > "And as suggested by microsoft
    > earlier,we have blocked few DNS
    > Domains by creating conditional
    > forwarders , pointing to
    > our another domain."
Did you open a ticket with Microsoft support that provided this suggestion? If yes, you can email your support engineer that assisted you.
Or did you post this in this forum or elsewhere that you received this suggestion? If a forum post, do you have a link?
Without specifics, it may be difficult to assist. However, what I can provide are the following hotfixes. The second one you had already installed. I suggest and recommend to install the others.

  • OD replica, DNS secondary zone, server will not resolve itself

We are testing an OD replica to run in a separate location from our OD master. Master OD and DNS is all set and working as expected. Separate location network user connections and DNS all work as expected when calling the OD master and DNS primary zone. The OD replication works fine. I want to use the same machine as a DNS secondary zone getting its records from the DNS on the OD master. DNS secondary zone seems to pull the records from the primary without trouble.
In testing the secondary DNS without forwarders or backup DNS systems, known internal addresses are resolved by the clients correctly. The issue that I am trying to resolve is that server will not resolve itself. I have the System Preferences / Network / DNS pointed to 127.0.0.1. The DNS is resolving for the clients. Running changeip -checkhostname gives
"The DNS hostname is not available, please repair DNS and re-run this tool."
If I ask a client to browse to the server's web site it resolves fine and I get the default page as expected.
With all of the above in mind, binding a local client to the OD replica and pointing the clients' DNS at the DNS secondary zone results in failure of the bind and the client saying that the server is not responding. If the DNS on the client is pointed to the DNS primary zone, the bind works fine and everything behaves as expected. Pointing the Server to the DNS primary zone resolves the problem as well and it is able to resolve itself.
The problem is that if our connection to our primary site goes down, I want everything to function independently at the second location. If the primary DNS zone is gone the OD replica server cannot resolve itself and authenticaion then does not happen making the OD replica pointless.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Found it. I did not copy the reverse mappings from the primary DNS zone.
    On the primary zone
    - In Server.app/DNS/ select show all records in the gear
    - double click reverse header for each subnet and indicate to allow zone transfer for the reverse records
    On the secondary zone
    - Add additional secondary zones for the exact title of each reverse record zone
    - example main records are FQDN.com
    - reverse records are 2.81.10.in-addr.arpa for the items in the 10.81.2.0 subnet
    OD replica now resolves itself.

  • I bought a new imac running Loin and Office 2011. The server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software.

I bought a new imac running Loin with Office 2011. I am the only mac in the office and the Server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software other than webmail access through our website. It looks as though 2011 is not compatible with 2003 per some searches online, but what are some options I have to gain full access again? I purchased parallels in hopes that this my help and I am able to use remote desktop connection to log on to server but can not drag and drop files I need. There is a shared drive on that Server we all use to exchange files.
The two main issues are gaining access to my email again and ability to drag and drop files from mac to pc. I hope this is enough info to get some solutions.
PS - IT person says my iMac's IP is what his server does not understand so that is why I can not login.

Office 2011 is not compatbile with Exchange 2003.
I suggest you post further Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software:

  • Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding [and I'm at my wit's end!]

I originally posted this question to the community section and was advised to post it here.  Please bear with me as this will be a long post.  I'm including the scenarios involving this reoccurring issue, the trouble shooting steps I've already
taken and the results of several diagnostic tools and logs.
I have a Sony VAIOS VPCEBB33FM lap top since 2011.  I have had this issue on an off for a long time.  I'm at my wit's end.  Any new insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Scenario Details
    1)  Some times it's on and off through out the day, sometimes it won't work all day, and once in a while it will work fine for the entire day.
    2)  I've had this issue across several wireless services, Clear Network accessed with WiMax, Library Wi-fi, Comcast cable internet using wireless router and Wi-fi, and Comcast Xfinity Wi-Fi, to name a few examples.
    3)  Other devices in the household or library will work with no problems such as my smart phone or my roommates' laptops or desktop computers.
    4) Once in a while,  the built-in wireless adapter is not found and I have to reinstall the driver.  Also the diagnostic tool has had to reset my adapter on an increasing basis.
    5)  I had my hard drive replaced in December 2014 and my system restored from the System Restore disks that came with it when I bought the laptop.  Even though I've been online on an infrequent basis it worked just fine for a while. Now that
I've been online a bit more I'm having the same issues again.
Below are my attempts at trouble shooting so far but I still have not been able to consistently resolve my DNS issues
     1) Restarting my adapter
     2) Turning off my laptop and removing the power supply for 5-10 minutes before turning it back on.
     3)  Using the IP Config in Command Prompt
         ipconfig /flushdns
         ipconfig /registerdns
         ipconfig /release
         ipconfig /renew
     4) Using the NetSh reset in Command Prompt and restarting my laptop
         netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
         netsh winsock reset
         ipconfig /flushdns
         [restart laptop]
     5)  Configuring the TCP/IP in several settings
Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties.
I have used the following settings:
           a) Obtain an DNS server address automatically
           b) OpenDNS
               208 67 222 222
               208 67 220 220
           c) Google DNS
               8 8 8 8
               8 8 4 4
     6) Updating the driver for my Intel Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6250 AGN and Intel Centrino(R) WIMAX 6250 from the Intel website previous having my laptop wiped clean in 2014.  It still did not resolve the issue.  My laptop
manufacturer as not come up with an driver update for my adapter since 2010.  I haven't tried to update the adapter driver from Intel's website since having my laptop repaired due to the fact that Intel strongly recommending using the manufacturer's updates
instead and frankly it didn't make much of a difference when I did it the first time.
     7) The last one I've tried as of today is going into Services and changing the start up type to automatic for the following:
Computer Browser [changed from manual to automatic]
DHCP Client [already set to automatic]
DNS Client [already set to automatic]
Network Connections [already set to automatic]
Network Location Awareness [changed from manual to automatic]
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) [already set to automatic]
           Server [already set to automatic]
TCP/IP Netbios helper [already set to automatic]
           Workstation [already set to automatic]
...and I'm still having DNS issues.
My only guessing are that my laptop came with a lemon adapter that needs to be replaced, some advanced setting(s) that I'm not aware off, or my firewall/anti-virus is interfering. I've used Symmantic Anti-virus and Firewall in the past and currently
Avast Anti-Virus with Microsoft Network Firewall.  I've had DNS issues with both anti-virus/firewall set ups.
Below are the results from the diagnostics and tests that I've ran.

When I try to log on to my DC it says "The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship". It won't let me log on. I installed another server server 2012r2  (its virtual )
and I can get to ADSI edit.
I think what happened was I had a pc that could not connect without unplugging the network cable. So I found this fix
FIX: “The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship”2032011
I’ve seen a lot of solutions, or suggestions rather, with regard to the error in the title of this post.  In my experience, the problem can almost always be resolved without extra domain add/removes and reboots, which is the most prevalent solution I have
seen around.  Usually, this issue is due to a mismatch between attributes of the computer account in Active Directory and those values on the system itself.  Here are the steps I take to fix this issue when it crops up:
Open up Active Directory Users & Computers pointed to the domain the computer account resides in
From the “View” pull-down menu, make sure that “Advanced Features” is checked
Navigate to the part of your organizational unit (OU) structure where the computer account for this server resides
Open the Properties for the computer object
Choose the “Attribute Editor” tab on the Properties dialog box
Check the Attributes dNSHostName & servicePrincipalName – anywhere that a fully qualified hostname is specified (e.g. myserver.mydomainname.com), make sure that the entry matches the hostname
you have configured when you go here on your server: Start -> Computer -> Right-Click, Properties -> Change Settings (under “Computer name, domain… settings”) -> Full Computer Name
As an example, for a fictitious W2K8 R2 server whose Full Computer Name is “srv1.mydomainname.com”, these attribute/value pairs should be in Active Directory:
    dNSHostName:
    srv1.mydomainname.com
    servicePrincipalName:
    HOST/SRV1
    HOST/srv1.mydomainname.com
    RestrictedKrbHost/SRV1
    RestrictedKrbHost/srv1.mydomainname.com
    TERMSRV/SRV1
    TERMSRV/srv1.mydomainname.com"
Not reading it carefully I add a computer with the same name as the pc having the issue and followed the above. The problem is that I did not notice that the spn did not want the name of my server (serv1) but the name of the trouble
    pc.

  • "The hostname does not resolve to any configured address..."

I think this is a stupid question   But I just can't remember what I'm missing.  It's been a while since I set one of these up.
I have just installed Lion and Server on a Mac Mini 2.66GHz C2D
I'm not trying to change the Open Directory settins from Standalone directory to an Open Directory Master.
When I do it saks me to create a directory adminstrator account.  No problem.  But when I hit continue on that screen I get a message saying:
"The hostname does not resolve to any configured address.  Please ensure your hostname and network configuration is correct."
Now, I think this is because I haven't set up any DNS zones yet.  But I'm not sure about that...
So can anyone(s) help me with these two things:
    1. Is the Open Directory master I'm trying to set up dependent on setting up DNS first?
    2. If so, can someone tell me what I'm supposed to do in the DNS, because for the life of me I can't remember anything about it.
I'll be very grateful for any help...
    Thanks!
    David.

Hi again.  Thanks for the help.  So that clears up that mystery.  However...
Ok, so as already noted, I've completely forgotten how I set this up last time, but I remember that I still have an archive of my old Snow Leopard server before I upgraded it to Lion.
So I've fired that up in Server Admin to see how I set up the DNS in that, and see if that can remind me how to set up the same on my new Lion server.
I believe I've set it all up correctly, but alas, I'm still getting the same error message when I try to create the open directory master.  So I must be doing something wrong still.  I just wish I knew what that was.
I've attached screen shots of my settings.  If you or anyone else can tell me what I'm doing wrong, then again, I'd be grateful!
The routing is done by my Airport Extreme, with the .200 IP address being assigned by DHCP client ID.  The IP address of this machine is in fact 10.0.1.200.  These settings are exactly the same (with one exception) as my (working) Snow Leopard server and just to be clear I'm not trying to run both servers at once!
The one exception is this:  The first line in the screen shot says "1.0.10.in-..." (from the non-working Lion server), whereas on my Snow Leopard server, the same line says "200.1.0.10.in-..."  Everything else is the same.  I can't seem to see any way of "correcting" that.  Is that the cause of the problem? And if so, how do I fix it?  If not, what *is* the problem?
    Thanks!
    David.

  • Problems with Tomcat Server : Does not respond (Sometimes) - Plz Need Help

I have a web application running on Tomcat 4.1.31. (SUN/Solaris)
Clients access through iPlanet Web Proxy (SUN/Solaris).
Theres a class that build a generic form (it return html codes) then it's affected in the JSP page :
    MyClass class = new MyClass();
    <%= class.getHtmlCode() %>
the size of the form is variable (100Ko to 1,5Mo)
When i m using the proxy, sometimes the server does not respond when he do the affectation <%= class.getHtmlCode() %>.
If i call the page without proxy it work.
The problem seem not depending of the size of the form. Without proxy it always work. And with proxy sometimes the server does not work.
    Please need help

I have had networks put an IPHelper in place and my client successfully picks up an IP address. The screen displays the "BOOT SERVER IP" correctly and the clients IP details are correct.
I watch the top of the screen where the Timeout counts down and eventually gives this error.
"Error: The server did not respond as requested in time

    Press any key to continue..."
This happens on every machine i have tested. If i hold down the Ctrl+Alt keys, then the imaging menu appears, i can select maintenance and the client will pull down the initrd, etc.. fine.
if i disable the IPHelper, move the client to the same VLAN as the server, then the whole process works perfectly.
not sure where to go from here.
    help please ;)

    Hi Leon,
If you are getting the ZENworks menu when holding down the Ctrl-Alt keys, PXE/PDHCP seems to be doing the right thing. Routing issues also don't seem the case as you can pull down the first PXE boot files....
The server running PXE, I assume it also runs the TFTP and Imaging services?
These services are also running a recent version of Zen 7 (IR3/IR4)? A little more info on these components and what server they are on would be good :)
    Cheers,

  • Form does not show "new" records from SQL Database

I have a PDF form that pulls data from a SQL Server.  The fields in
the PDF are populated from the database after selecting a specific
record from a drop down and then clicking on a button labeled "Fill".
The problem is that the dropdown does not display new records that
have been recently added to the database.  I have to open the form up
in designer then save it, (*note - I change nothing at this point.)
Then when the form is opened back up in Adobe the dropdown show all
the records including the new ones.  I even put a manual refresh on
form to try and fix this an it did not help. Seriously stumped.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
