DNS server errors
Have people been getting this message from their gateway more often? I have a Westell 327W and this seems to happen more and more.
LAN PC Unable to communicate with DNS Server. (error = 'connection timed out', count = 3)
Those errors are pretty self explanatory. It means for some reason the DNS Proxy on the modem is unable to contact the DNS Server it is set up to use. By any chance has your connection been dropping? If not, it's most likely Verizon's DNS servers being on the fritz again.
I often suggest using 3rd party DNS over ISP DNS. Often times they are more reliable and in many cases they are quicker. I suggest the use of the following well-known server:

I presume it is an apple router. What one?? What firmware?
Plugged into what modem? Is the modem also a router? What mode is the airport in?
If you changed your network around and have a cable modem. Did you power cycle it for at least 20min.. this is necessary.

DNS Server Errors 4015 and 4010
Hi all,
we have upgraded a 2003 Domain to 2012 R2. All DCs now are 2012 R2. The Domain and Forest Level are 2008. Be checking the Eventlogs of the DNS Server we found that we have DNS Error 4010 and 4015 Events repeatedly.
4015:
The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error.
4010:
The DNS server was unable to create a resource record for f55ab78a-df8d-4c2c-8420-52dc8b5604e2._msdcs.domain.local. in zone Domain.local. The Active Directory definition of this resource record is corrupt or contains an invalid DNS name. The event data contains
the error.
We found that the Errors are available on oll DCs. The errors occurs only after the DNS Server Service are restartet on the DCs.
We check the dcdiag /e /test:dns with all PASS
We check the netlogon Service are successfully update be a restart the _.msdcs records in the Zone if the record are not present
We check the _msdcs.Domain.local Zone, it is in the forest Root Partition and AD integrated. We move it to the root of the DNS like the KB817470 describe
We check the dns by the Best Practices Analyzer, wihtout a error
We check the AD replication by repadmin without error

Can you tell more information about the migration?
The roles that installed on windows server 2003 before migration. Is DNS role installed on it?

in an attempt to transfer FSMO roles to the 2012r2 DC the first thing I ran was dcdiag /e /c /v and after correcting some minor errors, I came upon this one in the DNS portion where a SRV record is missing and I have no idea how to fix/remove this. there's
only two DCs, 200.5 and 200.6 where the former is a Hyper-V VM running 2012r2 and the latter is a physical 2003r2 machine. I was able to successfully raise the levels to 2003 and join the 2012r2 DC. this missing SRV record does not look fatal and only warrants
a warning from dcdiag, however I would like to fix this so there's no trouble down the road. I've tried ipconfig /registerdns, but no dice. here is the message I'm concerned about:

Using the UC520 as a DNS server/forwarder for a small number of hosts < 10 to resolve inside IP's for internal applications.
UC520 will eventually stop resolving DNS requests.

Mac - Xbox, internet sharing, DNS server error

I have internet sharing enabled between my airport and the built-in ethernet on my mac. I have been using this to access XBox Live for several days, and it has been working with a moderate NAT. Now I am having problems with my DNS server resolving the names of the Xbox Live servers; this has happened once before, and I got it to work by resetting my router, then switching the xbox DNS settings to automatic and back to manual, and it started working again. This time I have been messing with settings for an hour, and I am still stuck with DNS issues. Any ideas? Why would it work one day and the next stop working? I have reset the router several times, and tried manually entering ethernet settings in the system preferences>network, and now I'm back with what had worked before; automatic on my mac, and assigned on my xbox.replying to myself since it's working now, but I'm not exactly sure why or how. The only thing I did was to turn off internet sharing and turn it back on. Viola, moderate nat is my only problem, which I don't care about. Still would like to know why this keeps happening. All the settings are the same as they've been before when my xbox live worked.

I have tried repeatedly to setup my Airport and I keep getting an issue with my Airport finding a DNS Server. I've tried to reset my airport several times now. I've also unplugged my Time Warner Cable modem and airport several times and tried to restart them in sequence based on other articles I've found here. Nothing seems to work. Has anyone else come across similar issues and how have you solved it?

Make sure you unscrew coaxial when you PC the modem.
The DNS info may take a few minutes to show up in A.U. and resolve the issue. -
I get this error alot when trying to sign into playstation network on my wireless system at home. I use to get it alot also when I had a linksys wrt54g router and I recently replaced that with a netgear Wrn2000 router. Apparently lots of people have this issue (based on google search) Any ideas on what I can do to straighten it out? Most of the time unplugging the router then plugging back in fixes it but there's gotta be a fix for it I would imagine.

Global query block is causing a DNS server to fail a query with error code Name Error exists in the DNS database for WPAD on a Windows 2008 server.
The global query block list is a feature that prevents attacks on your network by blocking DNS queries for specific host names. This feature has caused the DNS server to fail a query with error code NAME ERROR for wpad.contoso.com. even though data

Direct Access: DNS error on Operations Status (DNS server not responding)
Hi!
I am testing Direct Access on Windows 2012 R2 Standard. So far I have deployed the Remote Access role to our server "ABC-DA1". I have completed the configuration wizard for a Single NIC deployment and defined a FQDN as the "public name"
(da.domain.com).
After completing the wizard I go to the the Operations Status page and find the an error telling me one of the DNS servers is unavailable. The mentioned server is no longer operational as it was running on an old Win2k8R2 DC server that was demoted.
Is there a way to remove the reference to the old server? I have 3 new DNS servers running on the new Domain Controllers but it seems like the old DC did not completely remove itself.

I was having problem with my Back to my Mac as message was saying DNS Server not responding . I tried to turn my WIFI off, then my router to no avail. Decided to call Apple Support line in the UK . I got a call back immediatly and great support. The advisor took over my screen and we check that my laptop was synchronising with I phots and it was. The adviser also told that when the message DNS server is not responding next to Back to my Mac is has to do with Apple Server not mine , router etc... Hope this save others some time! Rather than spending time truining on and off changing IP address etc...
Thanks for your thorough post. I too need to use BTMM on almost a daily basis for my job, and it has fallen short countlness times. I too have taken great pains to check all of the typical trouble shooting steps within iCloud and in the Apple keychain on each Mac etc, but after the latest rounds of system updates from Apple a few weeks ago to Mountain Lion, BTMM on one of my Macs is completely broken and unusable. I would concur that if you need remote access for "real" mission critical use, just bite the bullet and pay for a service like LogMeIn. You won't regret it and you will get real software support.

I originally posted this question to the community section and was advised to post it here. Please bear with me as this will be a long post. I'm including the scenarios involving this reoccurring issue, the trouble shooting steps I've already
taken and the results of several diagnostic tools and logs.
I have a Sony VAIOS VPCEBB33FM lap top since 2011. I have had this issue on an off for a long time. I'm at my wit's end. Any new insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Scenario Details
1) Some times it's on and off through out the day, sometimes it won't work all day, and once in a while it will work fine for the entire day.
2) I've had this issue across several wireless services, Clear Network accessed with WiMax, Library Wi-fi, Comcast cable internet using wireless router and Wi-fi, and Comcast Xfinity Wi-Fi, to name a few examples.
3) Other devices in the household or library will work with no problems such as my smart phone or my roommates' laptops or desktop computers.
4) Once in a while, the built-in wireless adapter is not found and I have to reinstall the driver. Also the diagnostic tool has had to reset my adapter on an increasing basis.
5) I had my hard drive replaced in December 2014 and my system restored from the System Restore disks that came with it when I bought the laptop. Even though I've been online on an infrequent basis it worked just fine for a while. Now that
I've been online a bit more I'm having the same issues again.
Below are my attempts at trouble shooting so far but I still have not been able to consistently resolve my DNS issues
1) Restarting my adapter
2) Turning off my laptop and removing the power supply for 5-10 minutes before turning it back on.
3) Using the IP Config in Command Prompt

4) Using the NetSh reset in Command Prompt and restarting my laptop

Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties.
I have used the following settings:

6) Updating the driver for my Intel Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6250 AGN and Intel Centrino(R) WIMAX 6250 from the Intel website previous having my laptop wiped clean in 2014. It still did not resolve the issue. My laptop
manufacturer as not come up with an driver update for my adapter since 2010. I haven't tried to update the adapter driver from Intel's website since having my laptop repaired due to the fact that Intel strongly recommending using the manufacturer's updates
instead and frankly it didn't make much of a difference when I did it the first time.
7) The last one I've tried as of today is going into Services and changing the start up type to automatic for the following:
Computer Browser [changed from manual to automatic]
DHCP Client [already set to automatic]
DNS Client [already set to automatic]
Network Connections [already set to automatic]
Network Location Awareness [changed from manual to automatic]
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) [already set to automatic]
Server [already set to automatic]
TCP/IP Netbios helper [already set to automatic]
Workstation [already set to automatic]
...and I'm still having DNS issues.
My only guessing are that my laptop came with a lemon adapter that needs to be replaced, some advanced setting(s) that I'm not aware off, or my firewall/anti-virus is interfering. I've used Symmantic Anti-virus and Firewall in the past and currently
Avast Anti-Virus with Microsoft Network Firewall. I've had DNS issues with both anti-virus/firewall set ups.
