DNS SPF Bounce Back Issue

Hello,
I am trying to send an email from IP: 64.32.183.2 to email: [email protected] and get this bounce back email.
Do any of you know what I need to create on the TXT record for the DNS? I've created an SPF record but still get an error message.
See the testconnectivity results below. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Outlook 2010 - Strange email bounce back issue.

    Hello,
I have a user who's emails are getting rejected by some mail servers.  We are on Exchange 2007, and the user is using Outlook 2010.  The strange thing is, I and many other users on the same server can send to the same address no problem.
I also found that if the user sends mail from OWA or his phone, it goes through fine as well.  His emails get blocked only when he sends from Outlook 2010 on his PC.  I thought it might be something with his ost file, so I had him
delete it and Outlook rebuilt it.  But the issue persisted.  His emails got rejected with a 554 denied error.
I checked and our Exchange server is not on any blacklists and has a good reputation.  Its just this one user that is getting rejected when he sends mail to certain addresses from Outlook 2010.  Is there an issue with Outlook that
    would cause something like this?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that the issue only occurs when sending message from the Outlook client.
Please check the Blocked Senders and Safe Recipients settings in Junk E-mail Options in Outlook 2010. Also try to start Outlook in safe mode and send the test message to check whether the issue persists. If it doesn’t work, change a computer to have a try.

  • After adding SPF records for Hybrid Development some external mails bounced back with error SPF Unauthorized mail is prohibited.

Added v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all and the txt token for the Exchange 2013 hybrid configuration, now some mails bounced back with the error "SPF Unauthorized mail is prohibited". What could be the cause? Should I customized
the SPF record but it is not mentioned in the procedures for Hybrid configuration to do that.

    Hi,
Would you like to mark Ed's reply as an answer so that others can find the solution easily.

  • AOL mail bounce back

I am getting bounce backs from any mail sent to an AOL account. The mail will go through if I log onto my mailbox at my ISP provider (Optimum Online). The bounce back has this message:
Reason: SMTP transmission failure has occurred
    Diagnostic code: smtp;554-: (ISP:B2) http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554ispb2.html TRANSACTION FAILED
    Remote system: dns;mailin-01.mx.aol.com (TCP|167.206.4.199|54475|205.188.156.185|25) (rly-ya06.mx.aol.com ESMTP mailrelayin-ya6.5; Thu, 31 May 2007 10:17:46 -0400)
    If I go to the aol link in the message I get this explanation;
    554 ISP:B2
    http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554ispb2.html
    EXPLANATION:
Your IP address has generated a high volume of mail to AOL which exceeded our rate limit or has generated AOL member complaints. Possible causes include a compromised or virus-infected personal computer or a non-disclosed server relaying mail within the ISP's network. Note, this block is automatically removed within 24 hours.
    SOLUTION:
The IP address in question is not the connecting MTA, but is commonly the originating IP. If your originating IP is static and has valid and meaningful reverse DNS, then please contact us with that IP. If you are not sure what your originating IP address is or if you are unsure as to whether your originating IP is dynamic or static, please contact your ISP for further information regarding your type of service.
If you are sending large volumes of mail from a dynamic IP address, please contact your ISP and inquire about purchasing a static IP or business class IP address. Furthermore you can attempt to reduce the amount of email recipients sent during one session. If you are sending to a mailing list you should verify that the recipients on your list are still interested in receiving your email.
If you did not send an extraordinary amount of email, we recommend scanning your computer or network for viruses and malicious applications.
If you are an ISP receiving this error from an excessive number of your customers you may have an undisclosed proxy or relay on your network. Please contact us to resolve this issue.
I am not sending high volumes of mail to AOL unless one or two emails a day is large. This is a recent problem. Has anyone experienced this or does someone have a solution? My ISP says there is nothing they can do on their end and AOL won't talk to you unless you have a paid account.
    Dan

AOL's explanation per the link provided covers your options.
    * You contacted your ISP which indicated there is nothing they can do or there is nothing they are willing to do in your behalf.
    * You are not sending high volumes of mail to AOL.
    * You can scan your Mac for viruses and malware which can't hurt but will be a waste of time in this situation.
This leaves contacting AOL. Other than that, wait until the 24 hour block period has expired.

  • Bounce Back Email Handling

Gurus, is there some functionality in OCS, helping to handle bounce back email. If there isnt, is there any workaround for the issue. Thanks, Howard.

    Hi,
OCS default install bounces back alot of mail as it rejects anything from a domain it cant do a reverse dns lookup on. This issue can be resolved with two patches
these are 2863557 and 2864009(these patches are for core dumps but they do fix this issue). These need to be applied after all the other patches (patchset 1, webmail patches, and bundled patchsets). Let me know if you want further details of these.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks and Best Regards

  • DNS SPF settings to reduce backscatter to catchall...

I use the mail.btinternet.com outbound server to send messages from [email protected]
Spammers are sending messages, spoofing the from address as [email protected]
These spam messages bounce back to my catchall account as undeliverable.
I want to set a SPF type DNS record to help mail servers distinguish between genuine mail from me and spoofed mail from spammers.
Can anyone advise what that SPF record should contain, to allow mail.btinternet.com and exclude others?
    Many thanks for any help,
      Nigel.

Thank you. But do I actually need such a record? I'm hoping I can modify the SPF record for mydomain.co.uk to include permission to use the btmail server, which is something like ...cpcloud.co.uk.
      Nigel.

  • Google bounces back mail containing Pages document

In the upgrade to Maverick and the Pages (5.0?) upgrade, mail being sent to a gmail account are consistently being bounced back, with Google claming that it almost certainly contains spam.
In earlier searches for answers, Google claimed that it was a defect in Apple's product; not THEIR fault, in otherwords. But it is still ongoing.
How and when will this issue be resolved?
    Below is the bounceback message:
Reason: SMTP transmission failure has occurred
Diagnostic code: smtp;552-5.7.0 This message was blocked because its content presents a potential issue. Please visit http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answe to review our message content and attachment content guidelines. k8si3219220paw.102 - gsmtp
    Remote system: dns;gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com (TCP|17.172.220.237|47648|173.194.79.26|25) (mx.google.com ESMTP k8si3219220paw.102 - gsmtp)

I think it's got to do with the fact that the new .pages files are actually packages. (Right click on the file in the Finder and you'll see an option to "Show Package Contents.") Google and others (Mozy, for instance) aren't recognizing the packages as vaild files, as far as I've been able to learn.
I fear that both sides, Apple and the others, are going to simply point fingers (i.e. not my problem) and nothing will get done.
The new files are being referred to as the unified file format.

  • DNS Server Having Intermittent Issues with Open Directory

I work for a school and we're undertaking the large task of moving from Xserves running 10.6.8 to Mac Minis running 10.9. I have a lot of experience with OS X Server (I held ACSA up until they ditched it, and ACTC through the current OS) but I've hit a fairly large snag in configuring our DNS server. We currently run DNS via an AD server that is being retired at the end of the summer, so this is the first time our DNS will be Mac-based. That said, our network is ridiculously simple as we are a very small school. For the most part it's a flat network using the same IP range for our wired and wireless internal clients (we do have a vlan for guests but that's through Aerohive). I configured the DNS by hand, recreating the entries in our AD server (there were only about a dozen) and then adding in things that should have been there in the first place (e.g. printers and some other devices with static IPs that I'd like FQDNs for). Everything seemed to be working fine...until trying to log into Open Directory accounts.
For some background, the DNS server running 10.9 was the first server we upgraded and it was a completely clean install. We run DHCP on another Mac Server currently running 10.6.8 and it does have the proper OD server listed. All DNS entries for the OD server match our current DNS server. The issue is that it's taking some users 5-6 tries to log in with their network accounts. The errors they receive range from the login window shaking to it stating the user cannot log in at this time. This seems to be worse on client machines running 10.9. but it's appearing on machines running 10.6.8-10.9.3.
In my troubleshooting, I found that if I log in as a local user to one of those machines and do a dig for the OD server the results vary, this is where it gets weird. For example, if I dig ourodserver.ourdomain.org it will sometimes return host not found or it will sometimes resolve. If I ping the same thing it will sometimes work (even after stating it cannot resolve the host) and it will sometimes fail. If I then try a dig for the .local (e.g. ourodserver.local) it also yields the same varied results. However, on every machine that I've tested if I then open a Finder window and navigate to the server via the "Shared" menu and connect I have no trouble connecting and then magically my digs and pings in terminal work. If I revert DNS back to point to our old Windows server the issue goes away. I have meticulously combed through that server many many times now and am not seeing any missed entries. Any idea what could be causing this?

You must have a working DNS service, and the server's hostname must match its fully-qualified domain name. To confirm, select the server by name in the sidebar of the Server application window, then select the Overview tab. Click the Edit button on the Host Name line. On the Accessing your Server sheet, Domain Name should be selected. Change the Host Name, if necessary. The server must have at least a three-level name (e.g. "server.yourdomain.com"), and the name must not be in the ".local" top-level domain, which is reserved for Bonjour.
The primary DNS server used by the server must be 127.0.0.1 (that is, itself) unless you're using another server for internal DNS. The only DNS server set on the clients should be the internal one, which they should get from DHCP if applicable.

That sounds like a compatibility issue with an add-on that you have installed, as reported by a number of users in both Firefox 22 and Firefox 23 over the last couple of months. If you would provide a listing of your installed extensions ''(as you were prompted to do when creating this thread)'' maybe one of us can advise you which extension is the mot likely culprit. You will need to re-install Firefox 23 to do further diagnostic testing.
As far as the compatibility of Firefox 23 and Win XP SP3, Mozilla has verified they are compatible and not one user ''(including me on two separate PC's)'' has reported a problem with compatibility.

  • Web Gallery photos bouncing back

When sending photos from the iPhone to a Web Gallery, the message bounces back with this error:
    Relaying denied, try authenticating.
I was under the impression that in order for a Web Gallery to show up on the iPhone, I had to be logged in correctly to my .mac account to begin with.
It's also worth mentioning that the Web Galleries created within iPhoto do not appear on the iPhone (Web Gallery Albums view) and vice versa. However, they all appear on the web via Safari.
    Any suggestions?

Still not working this morning. Here is text from my recent error message:

  • Emails are not going out to everyone, only select people, everyone else gets blocked or bounce backs

I have a client who uses Business Catalyst and they're having a problem with emails only going out to certain people and not everyone they email. Outside going in, the problem is it either works 100% of the time, or not at all. If it doesn't work the outside people either get a bounced back failed delivery message, or nothing at all and the emails just disappear into cyberspace. And it's not regulated to just one company or one group of domains - it's pretty sparatic on who it's going to work for and who it doesn't work for.
I checked to see if their IP was blacklisted and the only thing I found was that it just wasn't whitelisted with list.dnswl.org. It wasn't blacklisted with them, it just wasn't listed. Outside of that I cannot figure out why their emails only work with certain people.
And the problem is across the board with all @grahamwebbacademy.edu email addresses, not just one person's address. Also one reason I'm posting here is that when they put in a support ticket they never get anything back, and my guess is it's because of this very issue, not that no one's responding to them. It's apparently  been going on for a long while too.
    Appreciate the help!
          Wendy

    Hi Wendy,
Please update the NS records for the domain "grahamwebbacademy.edu".  At the moment I see that it's pointing to our old expired records. This could be the cause of your mail troubles in this case.

  • Old typo in WGM causing bounce backs

    Hi,
We run our mail from an xserve.
We set up a user (jonna)and published her name, but she should have been joanna.
We soon realized our error and changed the name in the info section, as her details in the basic section where correct.
However, when anyone sends an email to the group she is in, they get a bounce back saying it could not be delivered to jonna. She is receiving emails to her correct address.
I have looked everywhere, gone through inspector with a fine tooth comb and cannot find an entry for jonna. I have checked than the address is not saved in collected address's.
Do you know what I can do to resolve this issue?
    Much thanks, Jim

    Jim,
Have you used the WGM Inspector? That can be turned on in the WGM Preferences. From there, you can look at the textual information associated with an account. You find be able to find so references to the old name in there.
Just curious, did you change the initial account in WGM? If so, there is no way to change the first short name associated with an account. That would explain the behavior you are seeing. The best way to insure this isn't the problem is to note all the settings for that account, delete it and create another account with joanna preserving the saved settings.

  • Sudden increase of Bounce Backs

Everyone in our company has suddenly seen an increase in Bounce Back email messages. I've been reviewing most of them and they usually say "Host or domain not found". I then usually try to ping or telnet into one of these domains and most of the time the domain DOES respond.
    telnet mail.teltec.fr 587
The only change we made to the servers recently was to install a Barracuda Spam Firewall and then changes the DNS mx record to point it instead of directly to our server.
So why is our system having such difficulty sending out these emails? Below is a sample bounce back:
    ---- START BOUNCE BACK ----

Try to deactivate the Barracuda firewall (if possible) and then test the mail service again. If it works, the problem may have its origin at the Barracuda box. Not sure if you find an expert here, but you may post its configuration for trouble shooting.
