Do 802.11n routers support SRX?

I currently have a WRT54GX (with SRX). Some computers that need to connect to the router are currently too far away to connect via plain vanilla 802.11g. I got SRX cards for them and they work great.
I now want to upgrade to a pre-N router, but I don't want to have to buy pre-N cards as well. My question is: are any of the Linksys pre-N routers backward-compatible with SRX?

yes , the N-devices are backward compatible with the SRX devices , because they both work on the same technology i.e MIMO ( Multiple Input Multiple Output )...i hope this answers your query...

according to the support site your system has an Intel 4965AGN (n-disabled) wlan card. The "n" cannot be re-enabled.

Compatible Gigabit Wireless 802.11n Routers?

Hi,
Is anyone aware which currently available routers with gigabit ports & 802.11n are proven to work with .n enabled MacBook Pros?
I realise that depending on where you are in the world, not too many are even on the market as yet but I've read about a few, namely the Linksys WRVS4400 and the D-LINK DIR655 which are available but I can't find out if they will actually work with the MacBooks. Linksys are also bringing out what look like 2 great routers in the near future (WRT350N & WRT330N) but again, who's to say if they will actually work with non-Linksys kit.
Any experiences appreciated.

I know the "n" is not standardized yet but almost every company has their own router out already. For the most part, are they interoperable? Do you have to have Apple's "n" router to use with APPLETV or can you use a Belkin, Netgear, Lynksys or D-Link (at "n")? Will my MacBook Pro equiped "n" work with some other brand router at "n" speeds?

i've had problems with a wrt350n and my macbook pro.
After getting the new router and installing the 802.11n update, my wireless connection would drop out after a few minutes of use. Even the latest airport update doesn't fix it (although it makes it last a bit longer before it dies).
I'm using the dd-wrt firmware in my router, and haven't tried tweaking the settings on the router yet - i'm told that might help a bit, but i'm not exactly sure which things to change.
So for now, you might want to wait, or just go with the apple solution.

AirPlay speakers...where's the 802.11n??

So I'm in the market to get some whole home audio going in my house. I've researched all of the various methods to do so (wired + receiver, airport express + speaker + amp, airplay speakers, bluetooth, etc) and I think I'm going to settle on getting AirPlay speakers. I just don't want to mess with wiring everything up and doing the AirPort Express thing....plus AirPlay speakers are actually cheaper than doing anything else. Granted you don't get the flexibility, but it's still a better budget decision.
In looking for some good AirPlay speakers, the only budget options ($150 or so) are Phillips and iHome. I've found both on eBay for around $80 a pop depeding on the version. Anyway....what's the deal with the AirPlay speakers only having 802.11b/g? I was getting ready to pull the trigger, but now I'm thinking I won't because of 802.11n becoming the standard and b/g will be going out the window soon. My wifi router supports the legacy frequencies, but I don't want to buy speakers and then in 2 years they are obsolete. I know I know, go with the airport express route. Well I'm open to suggestions at this point, but I'm just curious as to why the speaker manufacturer's are bundling b/g into their NEW products?

I had a similar concern: an airplay speaker only support 11g, not 11n. I did some study and made my move and hopefully it helps by sharing what I did.
Study:
The major chip inside airplay speakers comes from one single vendor: SMSC (lately got bought by Microchip). It offers 11b/g and not 11n. No firm schedule on 11n, it takes time to make a speaker from a chip
Most 11n routers support 11b/g too. So playing music to 11g airplay speakers shall not be a problem; but it will affect your internet speed as some old routers will downgrade to 11g (which is 54Mbps, not too bad).
The new 11ac routers with multi-bands (2x2 or 3x3) can be a solution to this with ability to have separate channel for 11g airplay and other channel for 11ac internet browsing.
My Purchase:
I did not buy any airplay speaker as it is over $100 my budget. Instead, I bought Yamaha PDX-60 dongle speaker which uses propietery RF technology which happened on sale at Amazon at that time. I did a check at Amazon store as I write and they are gone already. (relief: as I do not want to be sounded like sales :-)

WRT54GX4 upgrade to 802.11n

Since both the SRX 400 routers and the 802.11n routers are MIMO based, has any thought been given to offering firmware upgrades to the new 802.11n standard for customers with the WRTGX4 and the PCI Card SRX 400? I've invested a lot of money in these systems.

hi....MIMO is a technology used by both the srx and n router...while the wireless standards are different for both of them.....wrt54gx4 works on wireless-g standard and n routers work on wireless - n standard......so i don't think that it is possible to upgrade the devices with different standards....

802.11n on a D-Link Router

Hi,
I have a 2.2 GHz Macbook Pro running 10.5.2 that I connect to my Comcast cable modem through a D-Link DIR-625 router. I've used this successfully since Sept. 07 but have now discovered I cannot connect wirelessly using mixed 802.11n, 11g, and 11b. I can connect fine through the router using an ethernet cable. And I can connect wirelessly if I restrict the router to 802.11g and 802.11b.
I've spent hours on the phone with the D-Link support group and they've even replaced my router with another one. The new router is the same model and works the same way.
I'm wondering two things:
1. Has there been a recent software update from Apple that might change or affect the 802.11n draft functionality? (I have always installed all the latest software updates).
2. Has anyone else seen a recent change in how their Mac connects to third party 802.11n routers?

I have the same MacBook as you, but still at OS 10.5.1 and a DIR-655 router. I don't have any experience with a prior OS for this router.
Does your Laptop connect when you broadcast only in n mode? Do you need to use the mixed mode?
My MacBook connects OK when the router broadcasts in 3 modes b/g/n, BUT THEN my older Tibook (wireless b) does not connect anymore, although it sees the router broadcasting. When I set the router to b/g only, then fine both laptops connect. So now, to be able to use wireless n I have the D-Link working in n mode only for the MacBook, and my Linksys router hooked up to the D-Link via ethernet and broadcasting in b/g mode for my TiBook. It's not how I expected it to work but until I get a sensible answer from D-Link… I read somewhere of someone having the exact same issue. D-Link's advice was to use b/g. It seems that it's not as "backward compatible" as announced.

802.11n Enabler for MacBook Pro not included

Apple's page about the Airport Extreme Base Station says, "Most new Mac computers ship with built-in 802.11n wireless support that can be easily enabled with the installation of enabler software included with new AirPort Extreme wireless base station (see sidebar)."
Yesterday I purchased the Airport Extreme 802.11n WiFi Wireless Base Station (Model MB053ZA/A A1143). I have installed it OK and it is running fine. But I now want to "enable" 802.11n on my MacBook Pro but can not figure out how to do it.
I have searched everywhere through the box and looked everywhere on the one install disk (disk version 2.1 2Z681-6107-A) but I can not find anything that looks like enabler software for the WiFi network card in my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo. The en1 page in Network Utility shows Model: Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g).
How is the enabler normally shipped in the AirPort Extreme wireless base station package? On a separate disk? On the install disk? As a free download?

There were several MacBook Pro models with 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processors. Your computer must be have a Core 2 Duo processor to qualify for the enabler.

There is only a single installation disk that is provided with the base station. The enabler software is located within the AirPort.mpkg package. There is a download, but it is not free. (ref: AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler for Mac)

Is the new wless standard 802.11n is supported in current shipments of Cisco WLC 44XX and WiSM ( 6500 wireless controller card) ?
Also I need to know whether is is supported in WCS 4.1 ?

I only no of 1 for sure and that is by downloading 3rd party firmware like DD-WRT, the WRT54G. See the below Link.

802.11n for MacBook Pro Core Duo's no problem!

On boot, the card is recognized (and even more stable than the older one). The enabler didn't want to work (wouldn't install I assume he means) on my system though. So I opened it in pacifist, (available here-Mike) and moved the file to the System folder, and magic! I have draft-N in my macbook coreduo

Just out of interest, where's the third attenna?
802.11n might work on the chip, but you won't get 11n
performance without the third attenna.

Ok, here is the scoop, I installed the AirPort Card from a Mac Pro and it works fine. I do have an issue with my Verizon DSL router Westell 327W. It does not like the new card. So I can not connect to it. On the other hand the AirPort Express and the new Mac Pro card in the MacBook Pro love each other. The range is unbeliveable! I am reluctant to update to the 802.11n enabler right now since reading all the problems with it in the other discussions.
I am going to disable the wireless feature in the Verizon router and hard wire a connection to the AirPort Express and see how that works...
So MacBook Pro (Core Duo) first generation can be updated to take advantage of 802.11n.

Can't connect to Time Capsule + no 802.11n support

I just got my new 13" MacBook (late 2008). Originally, I thought I couldn't connect to my wireless N router which happens to be Apple Time Machine. According to network utility program, my MacBook only supports a/b/g - this is not right! Now, I discover that in addition to the N problem I can't even connect to my Time Capsule wirelessly! Good thing I have 2 separate wireless routers (linksys).
My other Macs (white MacBook and 20" iMac) have no problem connecting to Time Capsule over 802.11n. Both machine indicates 802.11n support under network utility program.
Compound this problem with stuck 'a' key on my keyboard.
I really, don't get this problem. I spent an hour with Apple tech with no avail. I am thinking about returning this new MacBook.

I have the exact same problem you have described. Unable to find a solution. Odd because I have a 2007 MacBook Pro and it works fine wirelessly. Wireless-N on the MacBook works fine and it can connect to other wireless networks, just not it's home one.
If anybody is interested, here's a dump from the console log when airport attempts to connect. Our wireless station doesn't broadcast.

Please check the model number on the side of the AirPort Express in the faint print. It will start with an "A" followed by four numbers, as in A x x x x.

Why doesn't the AEBS 802.11n support NTFS?

I am wondering why users need to go through hoops to make the $200 AEBS 802.11n recognize NTFS formatted disks. Is it really that complicated for Apple engineers to add this support? Is there any way to reach Apple tech and request this? Or is asking for NTFS support utterly ludicrous and fundamentally not feasible. If it is futile to hope for Apple to add support for NTFS to the AEBS 802.11n, then how does one go about returning - who to contact to return and get the money refunded.
