[Desktop][Your Music] Search within Your Music only, much faster

If I want to jump to a song in my saved music (Your Music) I don't want to have to wade through all the other artists on spotify, playlists, profiles, etc. that you get when you do a full search. Furthermore I don't want to wait the minimum half-second round trip for the search results to appear. It makes the whole operation feel sluggish and puts me off using search. Try typing a word into iTunes search. The moment you lift your finger off the key it's already found the matching song. As far as I can tell that's simply not possible in Spotify. I'm not sure what the best design is. I think there should be a way to do either a global search, or a search within your music. The latter should be possible to run entirely on your computer/device to make it nice and zippy.

Also, Winamp had an awesome shortcut for this: the J key. It brought up a window where you could literally type a letter or two from any part of the title, artist or album that you want. Hit enter and it starts playing. Or hit alt-q and it's queued. See it in the search results but it's not selected? Press the up and down arrows to select. Total time required - about three seconds. That's the kind of search ergonomics I would like to see in Spotify.

Help creating a search field in my website for users to search within my site

Basically i want a search field in my website so visitors can search withing my website for what they are looking for .

Go to Freefind.com. Their free search engine has a few text ads on the results pages. The paid version is add free. Customize the look, and search features any way you wish. After they spider your site (usually within 24 hours), people will be able to search your site. You can see a working example on my site alt-web.com

Error: please select a css file within your site

DW 5.5. Trying to use Media Queries. Won't accept new css files for phone, tablet and desktop in local css folder. Doesn't work if I put it in the root folder either. Suggestions?

To be clear, the error is produced by the Modify->Media Queries dialog. I'm attempting to set up the three default files: tablet.css, phone.css and desktop.css. The error occurs in the dialog, but only when the OK button is pressed.

The routine will not go forward from here, which is why I would like to know what is supposed to go in the various files.

Including external folders in your site updates

I have a site that has a template. When the template is
updated, it changes all the pages that were based off of the
template and this is a good thing.
However, I need to create a page (based off the template)
that is in a folder that does not fall under my site directory
structure. The reason it does not is that it is in a wwws folder
instead of www. Is it possible for me to create a page off of my
template that is in this external folder and have it update
automatically when I update the template. Right now the only thing
I can think of is to create this secure page within my normal site
directory structure (so it will update when the template updates)
but then move it manually to the wwws folder. This is doable but I
will just have to remember to manually move it every time.

No. The template can only affect pages that are within your
site's root
folder.

Providing Site Index Link

Can any one help me, how to provide link for Site Index. For example a Link for Site Index as shown in SDN's Tool Area

Find out the URL for your Site Index iView. If its part of any role then you can open the role -> open the iView from the Role - copy the pcd location property and change the pcd: to ROLES:// to get the complete URL. Or you can just preview the iView to get the complete URL.
If you have the link as "ROLES://.../iView" then you can put a EPCM.doNavigate(your url) inside the masthead par file. Inside the masthead par file open the HeaderView.jsp and put this link there beside the Help / Log Off links. If you open the JSP you can find these links existing there... just create another table cell and put your own link. It should work.

Performing a search for new site

How long does it take before someone can search for your site after publishing? I published a site this past weekend, but it doesn't appear on a google search...

You'll definitely have to allow some time for Google's spiders to crawl your site. The more links you have in different places that point to your site, the faster you can potentially get crawled. If you go to Google and the other search engines, you can submit your URL to the search engines directly as well, though this does not guarantee being included in any timeframe either. Mine took about 3 weeks from when I first started my website.

Can not continue searching within a web site without going out, then getting back in.

When using the Morningstar web site, as I go from mutual fund to mutual fund the new version of Firefox will not allow me to continue. I have to get out of the Morningstar web site, then get back in to continue my search.

I am relatively new to .Mac and I am also using Aperture. I took the link to your site and it is very impressive.
The questions I have are related to your homepage.
Did you organize your own site menu with another ap. and then import it under the "Advanced" selection or did you create it in .Mac? My problem is that I don't like the options for galleries so I am posting my own via Aperture, but once you click on the link in the site menu, there is no "Back" or "Return to Homepage" option! Your site has the numbers and arrows that allow you to advance through your galleries and to the site menu, and your site menu has hyperlinks to your Aperture posted galleries instead of photo links. How did you achieve this?

Making your site have a keyword search

How do I get my site to go to its address just by typing in a
keyword in a browser. For example my site is www.lightingscoop.com,
I want to type in lightingscoop in the address box and have it go
to my site. How do i go about doing this? Most sites work this way,
when i try it i just lists a bunch off possible sites on the
browser but mine isn't even a choice.

Search WebTrends for site analyse !

Why are you worried about how search engines present you when you have done absolutely nothing on your home page to invite them?
There is little or no text on your homepage to tell search engines what your site is about. It is a miracle that Google lists your site at all. Even the 'Enter' menu button is hidden within javascript.
Consider, at a bare minimum, using TITLE and ALT attributes in your index.html.
You really need something more substantial on the homepage, even if you use CSS to hide more descriptive text or direct links to more content on the site. Also consider a site map.

SharePoint Foundation 2010: search error: "Your search cannot be completed because of a service error."

Hi,
I have SharePoint Foundation 2010 running on a single server with databases, with a second server in the farm serving as a 2nd app tier. Both server have the exact same versions of SharePoint loaded (according to the Central Admin site).
Whenever I try to run a search from any site in my SharePoint Foundation 2010 installation (in this example I typed "this is my query"), it hangs for 20-30 seconds while the IE status bar says:
Waiting for http://SERVER2010:80/tfs/SITE1/_layouts/searchresults.aspx?k=this%20is%20my%20query&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftfs2010db%2Ftfs%2FSITE1
Then it finally returns a results screen with an error that says: "Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try your search again or contact your administrator for more information."
Checking the SharePoint logs under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS, the relevant entries say the following (items I deem important

Not sure what "resource limit is reached" actually means. This SharePoint installation is running under regular SQL 2008 R2, and the
WSS_Content database is fairly small (10gig). I've reviewed the Search Service, the process account running it, the
WSS_SEARCH index database, and verified that the Content database is using the proper index database. Everything looks like it should be crawling/indexing/working fine. But the WSS_SEARCH
database isn't very large, so I'm not sure if the crawling is actually filling it with anything.
Not sure where to start seriously troubleshooting this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The query ran in tens of seconds. This indicates that at some point a bad plan compiled and stayed in the cache.
It may have gotten there because the statistics were out of date.
A possible way to keep this from happening is to rebuild statistics with full scan more frequently.
Try free the proc cache and see the result.

Can't open file "~/sites/index.html." in iWeb09

I have been searching through posts and I have noticed some that are very similar to this question, but are not exactly related. My domain file worked fine before upgrading to iWeb09. Now I get the error: can't open file "~/sites/index.html." Has anyone found a way to import the iWeb08 domain file into version 09?
Nice job Apple! How can you release a product that does not correctly import or update the file from the previous version(s)? There is no way that you could have missed this in testing...

You will never be able to open this file with iWeb, because, as it states it is a User/Sites/index.html file and iWeb cannot open this files - anything with html on the end of it is already published and iWeb cannot open this. It is not the same as your domain file.
Go to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and try opening your domain file, rather than something that is already published. iWeb cannot import - at least not published pages.

Solution sought: finding inter-linked pages within a site

Hi,
Is there a button or function that tells me what other pages link to a page that I have open at the time? I know about Find and Replace, Check Links Sitewide and Change Link Sitewide, but none of these (that I can work out anyway) seem to have what I'm looking for.
For example:
I have been asked to delete a page, and at the moment I have to remember or search for it's (relative) path, then type it into Find and Replace in order to find what else is linking to it within the site, then go through each page deleting the link (or use Change Link Sitewide). It is the intial search that is the laborious part.
Ideally, a button that finds what links to the page I have open and brings back the results would be perfect (as in Find and Replace results), but in the meantime, a neat solution/process or function is sought.
I work in a large organisation with a large website, so this does crop up on a regular basis.
I am using DW CS5.

DW doesn't have a magic button you can press that will show you which sites or pages in your site have links to a particular URL.
Use Google Webmaster Tools for this.
     1. Log-in to your account.
     2. Go to Your Site on the Web > Internal Links.
     3. Type the URL of the page in question, Google will show you all the pages on your domain that link to that page.
