Do all Flash FLV players resize the incoming video?

I'm finding that the animations I make look best if rendered
at full size and then played back in a player that is of a smaller
size. I want to offer my content for syndication in websites that I
don't have any control over. Is it standard practice for any FLV
player in a website to resize any incoming FLV video to fit the
size of the player?
Thanks,
TW

  • HT204380 How does a user of multiple Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac laptop) designate which devices will ring when an incoming Facetime call comes in.  If all three are online, should they all be able to accept an incoming video call?

    A friend of mine has an iPhone with a cellular data plan, a Macbook Pro, and a mini-iPad.  She's been using Facetime, but says that all of the devices used to ring at the time of an incoming Facetime call.  Now only her iPhone rings.  How do you set whichever device you want to ring?

    James: I agree. Please keep them shorter.
    The answers to both questions are no.
    The iPad is NOT a computer replacement. It is a mobile device.
    The iPad can not stream tro the iPhone nor an iPod.

    Sure, high performance and low latency matter. Business competition—relentless 24/7/365—demands that you coax maximum speed and responsiveness from key business operations. Faster time to market translates to greater customer satisfaction and competitive advantage.
    That's why your forward-looking IT peers increasingly embrace all-flash storage: By speeding performance and reducing latency, flash accelerates business value—driving revenue, enhancing the customer experience, and reducing costs through consolidation.
    But when it comes to all-flash storage solutions today, high performance and low latency are not enough. Your enterprise needs more.
    Turn on a Dime—Without Compromise
    In an enterprise context, "agility" refers to how well and rapidly a company can adapt to market and environmental changes—and do it in productive, cost-effective ways. Robust data management and enterprise-grade capabilities are key to staying on top of today's dynamic marketplace.
    Accordingly, astute IT bosses are asking questions around all-flash storage solutions: How available is my data? How much flexibility do I have to move that data over its lifecycle? What about data protection? Does the solution offer native support for cloud?
    In essence, they're saying, "Okay, Mr. Storage Vendor, you can accelerate my performance and reduce my latency. But can you wrap that in the enterprise-grade package that I need to run my business?"
    NetApp® All Flash FAS (AFF) answers all these questions. It's an enterprise-grade storage solution.
    Figure 1) Powered by clustered Data ONTAP, All Flash FAS is built for virtualized, shared environments requiring high performance plus robust data management.
    Source: NetApp, 2015
    Powered by Clustered Data ONTAP
    Driving All Flash FAS is NetApp clustered Data ONTAP®, the #1 storage operating system (OS).* It's the foundation of the Data Fabric, our vision for the future of data management. We architected Data ONTAP to have enterprise-grade, unified, scale-out capabilities that deliver nondisruptive operations, storage and operational efficiency, and scalability over the lifetime of the system. Data ONTAP is the basis for virtualized shared storage infrastructures.
    Backed by Data ONTAP FlashEssentials, AFF simplifies flash deployment, eliminates flash silos, accelerates database performance with 20x faster response times, and reduces your total cost of ownership. Enhanced native capabilities of the OS bring integrated inline efficiencies to AFF. These include newly enhanced compression, inline zero-block and always-on deduplication for 5x–10x average space savings.
    All Flash FAS employs the Data ONTAP log-structured file system WAFL® (Write Anywhere File Layout). It's optimized for flash media to minimize latency, reduce wear, and maximize usable capacity. The solution's optimized write, read, and parallel processing results in consistent submillisecond latency and high performance.
    Figure 2) Flash-optimized write architecture reduces latency and increases the longevity of SSDs.
    Source: NetApp, 2015
    Flash-to-Disk Agility
    All Flash FAS supports live workload migration between flash and hard disk drive (HDD) tiers—on premises or in the cloud. As data characteristics and application environments change, data that's no longer performance-driven doesn't need to be in flash. All Flash FAS gives you the flexibility to move that data nondisruptively within the same cluster to other nodes that are just spinning media for cost-effective backup or archival for example—quickly and easily.
    Flash-to-Cloud Data Protection
    NetApp is the first all-flash system to support integrated snapshots and cloning to a software instance running on Amazon Web Services. You can move your data securely across your choice of clouds—enabled by Cloud ONTAP™ and NetApp Private Storage for Cloud.
    Enterprise-grade Data Protection Delivers Resiliency
    Industry-leading, advanced data protection technologies in AFF improve your resiliency. Core features include RAID DP, in-core checksums, lost write protection, read-after write verification, and media scans that verify that data written to the solid state drive (SSD) is written correctly and regenerated.
    For enterprise-grade data availability, NetApp MetroCluster™ is the only high-availability and disaster recovery software integrated into an all-flash array. With MetroCluster, you recover from failures with zero data loss, maintaining continuous data availability for mission-critical applications—at half the cost and complexity of competitive solutions. All Flash FAS with MetroCluster is one of the only all-flash arrays that supports integrated synchronous mirroring with a single management view. And, according to Forrester Research estimates, organizations can achieve up to 143% return on investment (ROI) through MetroCluster.
    NetApp SnapMirror® software replicates to any type of FAS system—all flash, hybrid, or HDD, on premises or in the cloud—reducing overall system costs.
    Enhancements that improve SSD durability and life include metadata and user data that are coalesced in memory before being destaged intelligently to the SSD subsystem. This ability minimizes wear by reducing the amount of writes dispatched to the SSDs. Data is never overwritten in place and writes are striped across multiple SSDs, resulting in more even wear.
    Furthermore, where other storage vendors compete, we partner. One road leads to vendor lock-in; the other leads to interoperability. Through strong data protection partnerships, All Flash FAS delivers integrated support for Veeam, Commvault, Veritas, and Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) solutions.
    Leading Application Integration Covers All the Bases
    Deep application integration sets All Flash FAS apart from other all-flash solutions on the market today.
    Delivering tight assimilation with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, SAP, Citrix, VMware, and OpenStack and CloudStack environments, AFF streamlines your management and data protection chores—saving you time and cycles. Application-consistent backup and recovery is integrated and automated.
    Storage Management Made Easy
    All Flash FAS includes the NetApp OnCommand® family of management software for automated tools that further simplify management of storage operations. Setting up and configuring AFF typically takes less than 15 minutes leveraging preconfigured systems for SAN deployments. OnCommand Workflow Automation automates common storage tasks such as provisioning and data protection for environments such as Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.
    To optimize storage for peak performance and to keep everything running smoothly, OnCommand Performance Manager automatically monitors and analyzes performance. It's an integrated component of OnCommand Unified Manager.
    With multiprotocol support—Fibre Channel (FC), FCoE, iSCSI, NFS, pNFS, CIFS/SMB—AFF delivers a common look and feel across your entire heterogeneous enterprise. Network-attached storage (NAS) is especially useful for VDI workloads typical in Citrix XenDesktop and VMware Horizon View installations.
    The Need for Speed
    All Flash FAS accelerated performance enables server consolidation and can reduce database license costs by 50%.
    In a recent SPC-1 benchmark, the All Flash FAS8080EX delivered 685,000 SPC-1 IOPS, ranking in the top 5. For database environments, AFF delivers 309K IOPS at 1ms latency for Oracle database 12c and 280K IOPS at 1ms latency for Microsoft SQL Server. VDI performance is equally impressive with 160K IOPS at ~1ms latency (80% write, 20% read).
    Like every FAS controller, AFF supports all the same protocols and features as FAS hybrid arrays. This includes the ability to scale up and out to 8 nodes for FC, or 24 nodes for NAS. With multi-tenancy built in and quality of service to protect important workloads, All Flash FAS is more than capable of meeting the demands of enterprise IT—scaling up to 384TB all-flash capacity per high availability (HA) pair or up to 5PB all-flash capacity in a cluster.
    Free Try Before You Buy
    If you're evaluating all-flash storage arrays for your enterprise, you'll want to consider the questions in the All Flash Array Checklist for Enterprise Buyers (see sidebar, "All-Flash Vendors Should Meet These Criteria"). Compare NetApp AFF against all-flash storage solutions other vendors are offering. If their solutions don't meet these criteria, you will end up setting up a storage silo with all of the management challenges involved.
    NetApp is currently offering a free All Flash FAS trial for qualified enterprises. It's a risk-free way to put all-flash storage performance with enterprise-grade capabilities through its paces in your own environment. Contact your NetApp sales rep or reseller to find out more
    The NetApp AFF8000 product line delivers on all the elements in the checklist. Because yes, high performance and low latency matter—but for enterprise IT mavens, that's just the beginning.

  • IChat 4 incoming video blurry / fuzzy / out of focus

    I am having an issue with iChat video that I cannot seem to find an answer to.
    The outgoing video from my computer is clear to me and the user on the other end, the incoming video is clear to the other user, but unclear to me.  I am having any connection or sound issues, the problem is simply the incoming video is out of focus.
    I have try all the different settings of the Bandwidth limit, but it has produced no change.  I have adjusted the streaming video settings in quicktime, but that also did not produce any difference.
    I am on a wireless, and the other user is on a wired connection.
    I am at a loss..if my outgoing video is clear to the other user, but my incoming video is fuzzy...then it can't be the internet connection.  The only explanation that I can come up with is that it would be due to the settings on my computer, however there really are not any settings...so I don't know what to do.
    I have a newer macbook: 2.2 ghz intel core 2 duo with 4 gb of ram.
    I am chatting with someone that has an iMac with 2gb of RAM but almost the same processor speed.
    Any ideas will be most appreciated.

    Hi,
    What Road Runner and Comcast do is play with the Data stream rate in a effort to stop people using Peer-to-Peer file sharing apps.
    They do this by slowing things to a speed the makes them virtually unusable.
    But it effects other people that have more legitimate reasons for streaming large amount of data in a constant fashion.
    Setting the Speed in Quickitme may help.
    It does seem though that people have better success if that set Quickitme as High as is it can be (The LAN /Intranet setting does not work for iChat 3 in Tiger so we tend to say 1.5Mbps to everybody)
    Then in iChat use the Bandwidth Limit in the Video section of the iChat Preferences to cap the speed there to try and stabilise what you are getting.
    As the figure he is getting is between two of the setting try the 200kbps one. this should be fast enough for a 1-1 Video chat and stop him bumping into the Max speed that is possible.
    I am not sure where this case is up to at the moment

    Many ISPs have what they call a "Fair Use Policy" which in many imply that at busy times they may not be able to maintain the speeds advertised.
    I know of one Comcast customer who regularly reboots her modem on the basis that if she looks like a new customer it seems to happen less. I have no further info as to whether this works or she just happens to live in an area that is less effected by this issue.

  • Green Tint to incoming video in iChat 5 (Snow Leopard 10.6.2)

    I recently upgraded my wife's Mac Mini (32bit Core Solo Intel) to SL, and now all of the incoming video during an iChat video session is tinted green. Has anyone else had this problem and have a solution? Any info is much appreciated.

    Hi,
    Do people say it looks different if you wave you hands in front of your face, between you and the camera ?
    Also does holding a white piece of paper for several seconds in front to the camera make the pic change ?
    I have a Buddy who can be quite animated with his hands.
    On days with he relies on Daylight on it's own his Video can seem to change colour as his hands get nearer the camera.
    I think the Internal iSight is supposed to auto correct White Balance and that we are talking about an issue with this.

  • Outgoing video frequently freezes; incoming video ...

    Hello all,
    I am running Skype 7.3.32.101 on a PC laptop (64-bit, running Windows 7, HP Folio 9470m) with a hardwired Ethernet connection (per speedtest.net:  595.00 mbps download; 472.58 mbps upload). Although the incoming audio/video and outgoing audio feeds are quite reliable, we consistently have issues with the outgoing video freezing. Moreover, we generally experience this performance degradation when connected with a colleague who runs Skype on a Mac (and is often connected via wi-fi); this user has the same experience -- that is, her outgoing video and audio feeds, as well as incoming audio from us, are fine; only the incoming video feed freezes. Thoughts about what might be causing this issue? Relatedly, is the outgoing video feed that we can see in the bottom left corner of the interface pulled directly from our camera (a Logitech ConferenceCam CC3000e), or is it a reflection of what the other user is actually seeing (and, as a result, could be impacted by quality issues/wi-fi connection on their end). Hope this makes some sense.
    Thanks.

    Same problem here.  I posted a new support thread for it.  If I get an answer, I'll post it a link to it here.

  • Quicktime 7.1.3 not showing the Flash FLV Exporter option.

    I have a macbook with FCP 5.1.2, Quicktime 7.1.3 and Flash Pro 8 installed.
    The same as with my G5, but different release of FCP (FCP 4.5 HD in G5)
    On my G5 all is fine. I see the FLV export plug in.
    The problem is in my Macbook : I can't see the FLV export plug option in Quicktime (export) nor in FCP (file>export>via Qt conversion).
    I've made the same installation process in both machines.
    Perhaps a problem with the Flash 8 Professional installation on Intel Macs ?
    (That installation was well finished)
    Anyway, I can encode with the FLV standalone encoder that comes with Flash 8 pro, but sometimes the plug in is a shortcut way to get a FLV file on the fly.
    Could anyone help me to resolve that situation ?
    Many thanks in advance. I always got a solution from you Guys!
    Daniel

    QuickTimeKirk, thanks for the reply.
    Yes, I think as you that the problem is from FLV exporter from Flash 8. It is not Universal. I will not go backward with QT. I prefer to wait until the UB Flash 8 Pro see the light..... or Flash Pro 9 (for sure it will be Universal)
    Thanks again !

  • Safari shows "The network connection was lost" for all flv files on the internet.  Firefox plays all

    I upgraded to the lastest version of Flash to fix what I thought was a problem in Firefox.  That problem turned out to be something else but now Safari will not play ANY flash content.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times.  I have even installed an older version.  All of these have the exact same result.  Flash works in Firefox but not in Safari.  I have cleared the cache.  I have gone into the flash securty settings and deleted all content.  Nothing seems to change this.  Anyone have any ideas?

    Plug-Ins are installedand keep in mindthis problem affects all 3 browsers i am using IE9, Safari5 & Firefox 19NOT a SPECIFIC browser issuewhich is why i think it's either "Flash" (Adobe) or streaming web-site (Freedocast) issue.

  • How to make a virtual view for all the incoming messages from several accounts, just like in Opera Mail?

    I want to have a replication of Opera mail feature. This feature enables you to aggregate all mail items from across all the e-mail accounts into a single virtual aggregated view.
    That is, say, we have 3 different mail accounts. In Mozilla Thunderbird on a daily basis I check if there is something new in the incoming folder for those accs. To do that I click on the corresponding folder for every account. Now, what i want is to click on a single folder where I would have an aggregated virtual view of the incoming folder for all of those 3 accounts. I guess, same thing can be done with different kinds of mails, such as:
    * Unread messages (after having viewed the mail item, it automatically goes straight into "Sent messages" aggregate view, listed below)
    * Read messages
    * Sent messages
    * Spam messages
    * Drafts, etc
    Also there is this cool feature (virtual thing applies here as well) that helps to have a view of all the attachments across all accounts categorized into different descriptions, such as:
    * docs (xls, doc, ppt, etc)
    * images (jpg, png, etc)
    * archives (zip, rar, etc)
    More then that, it would still be better to have labling aggregation view feature across all acounts. That is, if we have marked important several messages in, say, 2 accounts, those should be seen in a single aggregated virtual view under name, say, "Important messages". Same can be said with flags, todos, etc.

    Pop mail accounts can be set up to use a Global Inbox. Imap mail accounts cannot.
    However, there are various 'views' in Thunderbird. I would suggest you try 'Unified'. This creates a visual Inbox containing all Inbox messages with sub folders showing individual Inboxes, so you can still see them separately if required.
    via Menu Bar;
    View > Folders > Unified
    Via Menu icon
    Menu Icon > Folders > Unified.
    This view would show all the 'Important' tagged emails, so you could them sort by Tag.
