No only the 32+ Gb iPod touchs have a rear facing camera, the 16Gb only has a front facing camera.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

IPod Touch 5th generation front-facing camera has stopped working

After updating to ios 7, my front-facing camera has stopped working on my ipod touch 5th generation. I have tried doing a full restore to factory settings, resetting data settings, turning it on and off, and all the basic things. Here are a few pictures:
This is with the rear-facing camera, it works just fine.
Now this is the front-facing camera:
When i try to use the front-facing camera, the screen goes like this and the camera app freezes, i can't switch back to read camera or anything. Other applications like snapchat don't have a button to switch the camera.
It's like the camera app is detecting that the version of ipod has a camera, but it can't seem to find it. Btw, i live in Australia and am an apple developer.

Why dont the 16g 5th generation have a rear camera?

I was curious to know why wasn't the 16g 5th generation ipod made with a rear camera? For someone who has had the 4th gen for a while I had to upgrade to the 5th gen. 16g because my 4th generation no longer works. So i wanted to know why it doesn't have a rear camera like the others. Plus it's very hard to find a case for the 16g that doesn't have holes in the back set for the 32g and 64g which has a rear camera and a loop area. I would have thought that this touch would at least be exactly like the other 5th generation iPods but its not. I have my share of apple products and really don't need 32g or 64g on an iPod when I have an iPad and an iPhone.

In June 2014 Apple discontinued the 16 GB 5G without rear camera and replaced it with a 16 GB 5G that has both from AND back cameras. The 16 GB 5G is no longer available as new from the Apple on-line store.

The 16GB iPod touch has a front-facing camera for video calling and such, but no camera on the rear. The 32GB and 64GB models have both a front-facing camera and a rear 5MP iSight camera.

I think this would be a very useful feature, for exercise tracking, etc. and maps can be preloaded into the iPod Touches memory. GPS on th eiPod Touch would add value.

Same here; Cant' do anything. Got the Ipod video 30g back in April 07. No problems until this week. I am getting the do not disconnect message. The computer recognizes the ipod and tells me I need to restore before it can be used with itunes. I did the restore, but I am still getting the do not connect message. The screen is grey and the icon is black instead of red plus the ipod doesn't appear to be charging. This is what happened the first time I plugged the ipod into my computer without being connected to the internet.

HT1937 I tried to update to the newest version for my iphone and for some reason I am getting a restore the iphone on my phone and computer. Why is this happening, I dont want to loose all my info and have to put it back in.

Monday I ended up on the phone with Apple Support just to be sure I was doing the right thing and to check my back up info so I could be sure I didn't loose important data. They were very nice and helped me finish the process. When I told the tech that I couldn't download the new update and install from my iphone that is when I went to the computer and that's when I got this recovery mode thing on my phone. He told me there must have been a problem and that is why he thinks I couldn't down load it from the phone. I had to go to ITunes on my computer. Once we did the recovery we were able to check that I had a back up from the day before, so I didn't loose anything. He stayed with me til the process finished. I also found out I can prevent the auto sync for the future by setting the directions on that.
I am good now and my phone is operating fine, with the new update. Thank you all who commented back to me.

5th generation ipod touch rear camera no longer works; have tried everything; now what?

so my ipod touch 5th generation's rear camera hasnt been working for a month or two. the front camera works, but once I click on the button to switch to the rear, it freezes. i have tried resetting my settings, backing up and restoring my ipod, force closed and moved the camera app, etc. also, when i use facetime or snapchat, the rear camera option doesnt even show up. Online ive read that this is a hardware problem, so i was wondering what i could do or where i could take it to be fixed? and if i did take it in, how much would repair cost? thanks in advance.
also, there is no apple store around me within like two and a half hours. i bought this from best buy in 2013, could i take it there or can i send it in to apple?

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

We had the same problem - the packaging all says 5th generation and it fits the specs on the website for the 16GB. Nowhere in the website does it say that the lower GB model does not include the rear camera. My daughter had already gotten all of her music loaded up before we figure this out. Very disappointing for us as well!

IPod Touch (5th Generation) cannot charge?

I just recently saw an ad on craigslist of someone selling an iPod Touch (5th Generation) for extremely cheap. The catch was the battery could not charge. Considering how cheap I got it, I figured it would be a simple battery replacement or such that I could find online and I would have a like-new iPod Touch. The only issue is I cannot find any solutions to this exact problem. Basically what has happened is, no matter where I plug-in this iPod, I only get the empty battery logo with the lighting bolt underneath. I have tried changing cords, and changing where it gets charge from, (my computer, wall charger, iPad charger) and it does the same thing. I have even tried leaving it charged for over 30-min+ and it still does not charge. I do not know the history of this iPod, but it seems as though I can see 2 very small dents on the back of the iPod. I have attempted all the basic diagnostics on this iPod
