Do apple intend to make Timemachine work with Airport extreme

I saw a user reporting that Timemahine worked with Aiport exterme and an USD disc without any modifications ( out of the box(. Officialle Apple denys that it will work What is the reality/facts ?

It's been a well know fact that Apple dropped support for Time Machine on an Airport Extreme router when they released Leopard (10.5.0). Nothing in the 10.5.1 update changed this status.
Some people have gotten it to work, by first connecting the drive directly to a Mac and doing the initial backup, and then moving the drive to the router. Others have said this works fine for a couple of days and then fails until you restart the router.
Nobody knows exactly why Apple pulled support for this feature, or if they will eventually support it with upgrades to the OS or firmware upgrades for the router. Speculation is not allowed on this forum and if I start guessing my messages will be deleted.
There are too many variations in machines and base stations to be able to accurately predict the stability of an unsupported feature. Time Machine is designed to save your data when you have problems, but can't be trusted in the configuration you mention. There are enough TM problems in systems that are supported.
Meanwhile, are you having any problems or have you come up with any answers that deal with a supported feature of Leopard?

  • Will a WD hard drive work with AirPort Extreme to connect with an iPad Air

Will a WD hard drive work with Airport Extreme to connect by a iPad Air

If you already have an AE and a WD drive .. the best idea is plug it in and see on a mac in airport utility is the drive recognised.
If not you have problems.. if it is formatted correctly (Not NTFS mainly) then it can be a drive that is not compatible.
assuming it works get your ipad and pay for filebrowser or at least download a test copy and see how it goes.
Always the best way to find out.. try it.

  • Any current inkjet printers work with Airport Extreme 802.11g Basestation?

Does anyone know if there are any printers out there currently being sold that actually work with Airport Extreme (802.11g)? Not the latest 802.11n basestation, but the UFO-shaped Extreme g basestation? I recently tried the HP DeskJet D4160 and it does not work at all with it, although my deprecated HP 940c works just fine. I need to replace the 940C, and I don't want to have to buy and return 20 different printers in order to find one that actually works... Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks

  • Does AirPlay work with AirPort Extreme?

Does AirPlay work with AirPort Extreme?

The AirPort Extreme does allow AirPlay to "pass-through" but it does NOT support receiving AirPlay streams to be played back through powered speakers or an audio receiver as it does not have any built-in audio circuitry like the AirPort Express models.

  • Will a wireless printer work with airport extreme?

Will a wireless printer work with airport extreme? Such as an HP Photosmart D110.

Yes, it will as long as it is within wifi signal range of the Extreme.  Of course, you'll need to go through the printer setup sequence. NOTE:  The D110 is not AIRPRINT compatible, so it will not print from ios operating systems that are installed in mobile devices such as iphones, ipads, ipods.  However, there are Apps that are available for non airprint printers, but their quality and effectiveness are questionable.

  • Which non apple modem/router work with airport extreme

    Hi
My old modem needs replacing. It currently feeds into my airport extreme and an airport express extends the network to my office in the garage. Ideally I want an 'n' speed modem/router and use the airport extreme to extend the network in the garage, doing away with the airport express's slower speeds.
Are there any non apple modem/routers that will work with the airport extreme to extend the network.
    Many thanks

+Are there any non apple modem/routers that will work with the airport extreme to extend the network.+
Not if you are planning to "extend" using wireless only.
If you are planning to extend the network by connecting to your new modem/router using an ethernet connection, you have some configuration options to choose from in that case. Post back if you need more details about this.

  • Does Apple list available printers that work with AirPort Express?

Just bought an AirPort Express hoping that I could print wirelessly with my HP 1350 All-in-One, and it won't work. Found out after the fact that my printer doesn't support USB wireless printing.
I'm looking for a basic color printer to work with AirPort Express for wireless printing by other family members, and I'll continue to use my HP 1350 with USB for scanning and OCR functions.
Does Apple provide a list of recommended printers that will work with AirPort Express?
    Kevin
    PowerBook G4 1.5 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1 GB DDR SDRAM

    No Apple doesn't any more.
I have been maintaining a community created list.
    http://tech.ifelix.net/1013.html
This is an unofficial list of USB printers which are are compatible with the AirPort Extreme Base Station and Airport Express. Printers in bold have been added to the original list that Apple provided.
Printers in dark red are in fact the only printers I have personally tested.
Please also note that due to changes in the firmware of both the Airport Extreme base station and the introduction of the Airport Express some printers which are in this list may no longer in fact be compatible.

  • Will sony s-air sw10ti work with airport extreme?

    Hi There,
I have the Sony S-Air SW10 Ti which has a great sound but the Aerial on it for DAB Radio is rubbish, it does have a docking station which also sounds good but no other connection parts. Would this perhaps work with " Airport or Aiport Express/Extreme" ?

Thanks - I am glad that you explained your situation a liitle more - although there is no direct way to connect to the wi-fi of the Sony - the Airport Express (not the Extreme) has an audio out jack that can be connected to any system - this would be an indirect way of using wi-fi with your Sony - see this link - http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/ - you could also incorporate Apple TV into your setup - see this link - http://www.apple.com/appletv/ - but as you can see, both of these choices involve AirPlay and Itunes which may limit your options - and because they are beyond the scope of this discussion group, I would suggest that you re-word your questions and ask them in the appropriate disccusion group in this forum - I hope that this clarifies things somewhat.

  • How do i set up time capsule to work with airport extreme base to extend wireless network?

i have a airport extreme base, how do i set up a time machine to extend the wireless network i have with airport extreme? i have also 3 airport express's connected to the same network to extend my wifi all over my house. thanks in advance.

    Much better graphics, thanks.
You can leave the Time Capsule connected by Ethernet from the Linksys and configure for a "roaming" network as mentioned previously.
To do this, open AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as the AirPort Extreme
No check mark needed next to Allow this network to be extended
Radio Mode = Same setting as the AirPort Extreme
    Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Same setting as the AirPort Extreme
Wireless Password = Same password as the AirPort Extreme
    Confirm Password
Click the Internet icon, then the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings and allow the Time Capsue to restart
Then power down the entire network
    Wait a minute or two
Start the modem first and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme the same way
    Power up the switch
Power up the Time Capsule for a minute
Keep starting devices one at a time about a minute apart
Now, your computer will automatically pick up a wireless signal from either the AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule, whichever device is closer and providing the stronger signal.

  • What is the best way to make 3g/4g simcard work with airport extreme

I live in Mumbai, India and I am tired of the state of broadband connection over here. I have vodafone 3G Data only SIM with me which I use via a 3G dongle that plugs into my mac. It has a decent speed and I would like to use it as a primary internet connection across the 3 iPhones, 2 iPads, a Mac and 2 apple tvs at my home.
I have a 2014 airport extreme and i want to know what hardware do i need to make the 3g sim work with it? like put the sim in the hardware/adapter and then plug it into the wan port of the airport extreme and let the AE handle my dhcp so that i can access 3g internet from all my devices?
also, i was something 4g compatible as 4g is on the roll in India. it doesn't have to be a wireless router on its own but something that can dial the connection and provide internet access to the AE via the wan port.
    thanks.
    Neerav

The only reason I mention it would be configure your network for a roaming instead of extended setup. The number one advantage over an extended is bandwidth performance ... aka speed.
For example, I have a Cisco RVS4000 wired router as my main Internet router. I am fortunate that my 2-story home came pre-wired for Ethernet. I have placed an AirPort Extreme and a Time Capsule, connected by Ethernet back to the Cisco; one on each floor to provide a seamless wireless network for an assortment of wired/wireless clients. With this setup, I am able to stream HD TV content throughout the house. Mine is an example of what you can do with a roaming network.

  • All-in-one printer that works with Airport Extreme (n)

    Hi all,
I have recently bought an Intel MacBook and an Airport Extreme 'n'.
Now I am looking for a compatible all-in-one (multifunction) printer. I have been searching on the net all day till my eyes are sore.
I don't need to use it too often so am looking for a a cheapie under $120. I mainly need it for printing black and white, photocopying and scanning the occasional document.
Is anyone using one with decent quality or can recommend one?
I know about ifelix's list but am looking for a recommendation as well as one that is compatible...
    thanks you...

I have looked around here, and just can't figure this
out, please someone help. I just purchased a 3180 hd
with my macbook. Was printing wirelessly fine with
my previous hd and new extreme. Now this one isn't
working and hp said that it is not a supported
wireless printer. Why on earth would apple sell this
    printer then.
Could someone please tell me how to make this printer
work over my new airport extreme base. PLEASE
This is the problem with the new airport extreme(n). All the printers work when connected directly to your computer, it is when they are connected to the base station that there seems to be compatibility problems. I have ruled out buying the C3180 for this reason.
Someone may be able to help you. If not you will either have to connect it directly to your mackbook to use it or return it and buy one that is compatible.

  • Can't get my Wireless-G (on a Windows XP) to work with Airport Extreme

I have four Macs in my house. All of them work flawlessly with my airport extreme basestation. My mom just moved in a brought her Pentium 4 Windows XP desktop. I plugged in a Link Sys Wireless-G adapter and it picks up lots of wireless networks in my neighborhood but it will not pick up my airport extreme. Any suggestions?

Same issues here with an iMac, an XP laptop, an XP desktop and an Xbo via a Belkin game router.
    Things I have tried:
    No security.
    WEP
    WPA - all variants
    Every channel number available
All the combinations of the above (yes, really - that was a fun Saturday afternoon I can tell you).
Firmware updates for AEBS and the wireless devices.
It's clearly a wireless problem since all devices work when connected via Ethernet.
I'm starting to believe that the AEBS just does not like certain brands (or maybe even specific models), something which I can't prove since I'm not about to go and replace ALL my other wireless devices to make Apple happy. Like a previous poster, I am using Belkin or Linksys gear.
Right now I've gone back to a Netgear router which works flawlessly with Windows and Mac; AEBS will be going back to the Apple store soon unless I can happen on a working solution.

  • PC Internet Not Working with Airport Extreme

Hey guys, just got a new Airport Extreme to replace my old one. Me and my brother's MacBook's both work in terms of the internet, but my dad's PC's internet will not work. It is connected to the Airport, but has no internet access. Any ideas? Thanks.

Apple's support section (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306256) says "How to enable Cisco VPN connections
You should use Cisco's VPN client software to establish a Cisco VPN connection via an AirPort Extreme base station. Note: In the Cisco VPN client preferences, make sure the "NAT-T" option is enabled.
Note: Some corporate firewall configurations may cause issues with the Cisco VPN software.
Please contact AppleCare support if you are unable to contact a Cisco VPN server via Cisco VPN client software and an AirPort Extreme base station.
I'm experiencing the same thing. DellLatitude D610. Netgear rangemax wireless PC card (WPN511). I can connect to the internet but I try to vpn into work I get half way through the connection process and get an error which states" Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding. I've spent 2 hours trying different settings. I really want to stick w/the apple product but will have to return it if I can't get it to work. I need cisco vpn via wintel for work.

  • Airport card does not work with Airport Extreme when security is turned on

I have an iMac running OSX 10.4.11 with an Airport card installed (firmware version 9.52).
I recently replaced my Netgear wireless router with an Apple Extreme Base station and now I am not able to connect my iMac to the wireless network when WEP security is turned on - I get an error from the Airport Setup Assistant when I attempt to connect to the wireless network.
It works fine if the wireless security on the Extreme Base station is turned off.
Please help and thanks in advance.
    Motasim

First, I highly recommend that you switch to either WPA or WPA2 as WEP is no longer considered secure. If you must use WEP, I suggest that you try the following:
o Re-create the Network Name (SSID) on your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)
o Try using 128-bit WEP, with a 26-Hex character key for the encryption type.

  • HP LaserJet 5000 doesn't work with Airport Extreme

My HP LaserJet 5000 is connected to a Linksys router which is connected to the AE. My HP DeskJet is connected the same way and works fine. Although the computer recognizes the Laser printer it will not print. The error message that comes up is "Printer Not Responding". Does anyone have any suggestions?

This all leads me to believe that the problem is with our router. We have a 4th generation Airport Extreme. Outside of this issue, it has worked very well for us for several years. Our modem is a Motorola SB121.
I should note that everything was working fine up until a few weeks ago. As far as I know, nothing changed within our setup. She had lost connectivity in the past for a few days at a time randomly, but it came back.
These issues are almost not worth wasting the time spent on them.. you can go out and buy an $80 router.. probably cheaper in the US and have it running again in 5min.
Your careful analysis looks correct.. the blame is squarely on the AE.
I am guessing you thought (wrongly as it turns out) that the latest firmware would be the best.
It is highly likely firmware update somewhere along the way to the latest caused the problem.
Try going back to 7.6.1 firstly and then 7.5.2 . .after each downgrade.. factory reset.
Use all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric for all names in the AE. ie .. do not use apple names..
So AEGen4 is a great name .. AE24ghz is a great name for 2.4ghz wireless and AE5ghz is a great name for 5ghz.. yes, do separate names for both wireless channels whilst this issue continues.
Try and report back if it helps at all.
