Do different recorded slide resolutions cause an imported FLV Video to Play incorrectly?

I’ve been working on a project involving many captivate files with flv videos inserted into slides I made the slides in Photoshop, I had the same type of project last year with the same client and had similar problems with the flv videos just not running or not running correctly, sometimes cutting off early.  This time using Captivate 4 I’m having problems with the videos playing through fine but then stopping and not continuing onto the next slide.  To even further complicate this sometimes in preview the video will play and then advance to the next slide and then after publishing the files and playing them they stop advancing and you have to select the play button to continue the presentation.
The setup for these video slides:
Edit the video in avid and export to After Effects.
Process the video in AE adding titles, keying, and exporting using render cue to FLV files
Process and Import the Photoshop slide into Captivate
Set the properties of the PS slide to; on slide enter; continue, on slide exit; advance to next slide.
Import the flv video at 640x480, skin = none, auto play auto rewind, Options = rest of slide, pause slide till end of video.
What I think I found and at least it is working again is, during the recording session with the various business managers while demonstrating their applications they would sometime resize their screens, so instead of recording at 1024x768 they would stop recording and change their screen resolution to 1032x774, to complicate this even further they were all operating their software applications using remote desktops.
I finally imported the slides into Captivate that were recorded at 1032x774 and resized them to 1024x768 during import and kept my resolution the same throughout the problem was resolved and the project played fine so far. The biggest problem I had was with a slide that fell between two slie sizes even though Captivate resized the slides on import and I resized the slide for the project resolution the Video FLV movie slide would play and then stop. I hope I’m making sense with this and I apologize if I’m not.
Is a recorded constant screen resolution critical when editing a captivate presentation and if so why? Is there a way to correct a slide problem in hypertext to force a slide to advance, and if so what program would accomplish this.  Thanks in advance.

  • How can I import a video and play on Flash with a click of a button?

Basically I want to create a set of animation sequences on Maya and import them to Flash as avi or flv and then play the movie clip after a button is clicked, how can I do this?
My idea is to create a multiple choice interactive game where the user has to select the right choices to get to the right ending which is why I need to know how to link buttons to movie clips and be able to stop them at the right time with more buttons and text being displayed for the next set of movie clips.
Also after the video is done being played do I just put a stop(); at the end of the Actionscript so the video stops and the choices (text) appear on the screen for the next video sequences?
I know how to link a button to a scene or frame but I don't know how to link a button to a video or many video/movie clips....
    Thank you
Also I may have other questions just pop into my head so if I edit and repeat a lot I'm sorry...

Thanks but what if the clips are long and quite big in size?
Put all he files separately from flash in the same folder as your swf and let the FlvPlayback Component load them when needed.
Can I play a movieclip basically by the press of a button???
    Yes
and does it have to be flv or can it be avi?
you can use flv or f4v (f4v is recommended if the files are really long (+10 Minutes) no avi, mov or other container

  • FLV colorspace is different from Android to Android? Is FLV video HW accelerated?

I'm not sure how long this problem has been there, maybe since November 2012 when we launched the app, or did it just appear. I can dig deeper if I get any replies. It seems some of our FLV videos, which have a person speaking on front of a white (as in #ffffff) background, end up having gray background in some devices. I had a lot of trouble originally getting the encoding process work and I'm not sure if I even understood it in the end.
Videos have different color spaces, one having RGB values from 0-255 and others from 16-235 for example. The color space information is encoded in the video, which video playback software may use or not. In the end, videos look different with different playback software and hardware combinations.
I've trusted FLV, because I thought Adobe AIR does everything by software and thus it should work (and has worked) exactly the same on all devices. But not any more. The only thing I can think of, is that some parts of video playback is HW accelerated. Is it possible that my Galaxy Tab 10.1, which shows all videos correctly, doesn't use HW to render video, whereas Galaxy Tab 3, which shows some videos incorrectly, uses HW? It may also be, that some of our videos indeed have wrong color space information in them, a bug in our encoding process. But I need to understand how AIR works a bit better to get the problem solved.
We're using a complex command line script, involving Avisynth. The line I underlined may not have always contained ".ConvertToRGB().ConvertToYV12(matrix="pc.601")" part, which could be the problem, but not explain why this happens sometimes and on some devices.

    Hi BKSTER
I just tested this and it seems to work fine. Here is what I
    did.
    1. Within my Captivate project, I inserted the Flash .FLV
    file.
    2. I browsed to a file on my hard drive and the File Link
field listed the absolute path of C:\somefolder... blah blah blah.
    3. I then changed it to point explicitly at the server where
I placed the .FLV. The link then looked like this:
    http://www.MySever.com/FileName.FLV.
    4. I dismissed the dialog and published the Captivate
    project.
    5. I uploaded the Captivate files to one server and the .FLV
    on the other.
    6. I ran the Captivate .HTM file and observed. The .FLV
    played as expected!
    Hope this helps... Rick

  • How to export the media player for imported .flv video to stage ?

    Hi,
I wonder if I can export the media player ( to the .SWF) without making my own using action script and buttons ....
When I hit Ctrl/Enter I get a very good player along with video but when I export the player is gone (only video is there).
There must be a setting for this I hope ?
I'm using flash / xml too for thsi web site.
    thanks!

resize both the Stage and the FLV component to the
    appropriate size.

  • Choice of Slide Resolution

Having read the HELP Topic with Keynote 08 on Slide Resolution I feel that there's important detail missing. ANYONE OUT THERE WHO CAN HELP BEFORE I CREATE LOTS OF SLIDES??
    1) Since (I've noticed) that if I decide to change the slide size of a presentation I'm going to have to rework each slide manually, it seems super important to get it right before finalising a big presentation.
    2) Since people with MacBook Pros may travel and encounter a variety of venues (and projectors) it seems super important to take this into account before preparing a presentation.
From the information given it's not clear whether.
    a) Its best to choose a large resolution for the slides (at least as great as the highest resolution that you think you may ever encounter) and let Keynote Scale down automatically for smaller displays??? Are there disadvantages to this???
    b) It's better to choose a more average resolution and then have Keynote Scale up?? I understand there may be some pixellation but if that's a bad thing depends on your answer to (a).
    c) you say that if I want to integrate a movie I may want to choose a higher resolution... Why??? (Isn't the projector the limiting factor?) What are the consequences for the rest of the presentation?
    Thanks

thanks everyone - this is all very helpful....
Yes, basically like most people I use 1024 format. HOWEVER there are one or two places with big theatres where I may encounter HD. Also, talking to fewer people, I might be tempted to use my 23 inch Cinema Display (which is basically HD too). Hence the interest in getting it right first time.
If it's better to build big and then scale down then I'd certainly be tempted to take that route. However that might mean building slides that then don't look good when displayed with less pixels. A matter of discipline, I guess, to keep them simple and not too crowded.
Unbelievably, it hadn't occurred to me that some of the slides might be of different proportions!!
Indeed it's complex because no perhaps there is not a single answer. So I appreciate all of your comments and collective experience.
    Thankyou!

  • Camcorder video error: "Unable to record. Resolution not supported by memory card."

We purchased two Samsung Droid Charges the first day they were released and recently they've both been getting this error after 8-15 seconds of recording in HD (1280x720): "Warning: Unable to record. Resolution not supported by memory card."
Called Verizon tech support, but they referred me to Samsung. Not knowing much about micro SDHC cards, I was alarmed to discover that the factory pre-installed 32gb card is only rated class 2 for speed. Samsung told me you need a minimum of speed class 4 or higher to record at this resolution. The only problem is you need an SD card installed in order to use the camcorder, period. In other words, all of us who payed an arm and a leg for the best phone Verizon sells now have to go buy our own micro sd card that actually supports all of the phone features as advertised?! The lowest prices I've seen for the faster cards are $70. Are we the only two Charge owners experiencing this problem?  I've read somewhere that lower speed class cards may initially support faster speeds than they are rated until they accumulate more files, so the problem may go undetected for some time until you have more files that are stored in different locations on the card (making them difficult to access at the faster speeds). This may explain why are the first ones to get this error since we've had the phones the longest and only 50% free space remaining on the SD card. Oh, Samsung also said they won't be able to replace your card for one that has the proper speed rating. Kind of seems like false advertising to say a feature is available (HD camcorder), and then not mention the fact that the memory card provided isn't sufficient for that feature (separate upgrade required). Anyone else sharing the same frustrations? Ideas?

Thanks for the response. I've tried everything on that page. It's not an issue with the cable, or firewire port or the cable being connected properly, as the iSight camera works fine with iChat. I've disconnected the only other firewire device on the computer, didn't make any difference. Camera works fine in iChat, so it's not the camera itself. And, as I mentioned in the post, the same camera, if hooked up to my laptop, works just fine recording in QuickTime. So, it appears to be an issue with the QuickTime installation on this computer. I've done a search for the same error I'm getting and found some other occurrences with the same problems, but none that offered a solution.

  • Slide resolution?

Will Keynote allow a custom panoramic slide resolution setting of 3840x960? Also, can you import into Keynote morphed images from Morph Age?

Keynote will indeed allow that custom size.

  • Imported mpeg videos change resolution.

I am importing mpeg videos to the project on PP 7.2.1 (4) under Windows 7 and they seem to change resolution and aspect ratio. Not sure if there is a setting that can be changed to override the aspect ratio and resolution when importing videos to the project ? Otherwise the video plays fine despite looking a little bit strange with this new aspect ratio of 1.1851.
The original video stream is (according to mediainfo):
    Format                                   : MPEG Video
    Format version                           : Version 2
    Format profile                           : Main@Main
    Format settings, BVOP                    : Yes
    Format settings, Matrix                  : Custom
    Format settings, GOP                     : M=3, N=15
    Duration                                 : 44s 478ms
    Bit rate mode                            : Variable
    Bit rate                                 : 9 071 Kbps
    Maximum bit rate                         : 8 900 Kbps
    Width                                    : 720 pixels
    Height                                   : 480 pixels
    Display aspect ratio                     : 16:9
    Frame rate                               : 29.970 fps
    Standard                                 : NTSC
After importing it to the project the properties are:
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 540 x 480
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:00:44:15
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.1851
Does anybody know if this can be corrected somehow?
    Thank you

Thank you - I went through the tutorials and I think I am running into a different issue (at least this is how ti looks).
The original video when opened in source monitor (before importing it into the project) shows properties of:
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 540 x 480
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:00:44:15
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.1851
and this is before importing it to the project just opening it in the monitor. Not sure what to think of it the video shows everywhere as 720*460 (16:9), when I click properties in windows in various media players and in MediaInfo but for some reason PP sees it as 540*480 (1:1851).
    Thank you

  • Captivate 8 (C8) not transferring correct slide resolution from PowerPoint (PPT)

I am tasked with transferring quite a number of PPT presentations into C8.  I have come across a few 'bugs' and am trying to solve them, one by one.
Today's issue:  slides from PPT are not transfering into C8 with the correct screen resolution.  The first thing I noticed about my slide transfer was that the titles in my PPT slides are not in the same position when transfered over into C8, and the font is pixilated.  Even when I go into PPT and make changes, save those changes and then update the file in C8, I still have a problem with the titles not being in the correct spot.  I know they are off because the titles appear within a band of silver, with a thick, brown bar above them in PPT. In C8, the titles are squished into the brown bar with too much space left over in the silver band -
The title and bands in PPT:
The title and bands in C8:
This is using the default 10" x 7.5" aspect ratio in PPT, and the pixel equivalent in C8 of 720x540.  The font is BANK GOTHIC.
(BTW: I found a chart here - I Came, I Saw, I Learned...: PowerPoint: Changing Slide Sizes for Importing into Captivate  which is not correct.   For instance, this chart suggests a slide resolution of 10.5" x 7" would transfer over into C8 as1008 px x 672px.  This size is incorrect; it still produces incorrect slide resolution.  And there is no way to use this chart for custom slide sizes).
When I changed the font (to CENTURY GOTHIC), I did get a better result in the position of my title:
    PPT new font:
    C8 new font:
However, I am still experiencing the pixilation of the font.  I closed this project out of C8 without saving and then re-transfered the files. This time, I went with the C8 default resolution of 960x720 - this translates in Powerpoint to 13.333" x 10".  NOT the same slide setting I have in PPT, which is 10" x 7.5" however, this looks much better, with less pixilation of the font within the work area. When I publish it out, the pixilation goes away and the font is smooth again.
My conclusion: some fonts do not transfer well into C8, and screen resolutions differ from PPT, Photoshop and C8.  If you are having difficulties getting your PPT slides to look the same in C8, it could be your font is not transfering well, or it could be your screen resolution.

Not really an answer, but the big problem IMO is that PPT, although a presentation tool that will use screens (or projection systems) defines a project in printing units (inches or cm) which is totally crazy.  Captivate is a bit more normal for that aspect, it uses pixels to define the size. And screens, devices no longer have all 72ppi. Sorry for the ranting...already commented that way when PPT first appeared (used better applications like Freelance Graphics for presentation, they are now killed by PPT). Contrary to Adobe, MS never listens to comments, reported several bugs in MS Project as well, they are still present in the latest version 15years later.

  • Editing the recorded slide

I am just new to Adobe Captivate - before I used another program.
Now I am wondering if there is no way to edit the recorded slide.
    1. When I use the timeline I can find no way to mark a part of the slide at cut it away from the timeline.
    2. I am wondering that when I pause the timeline - the red line stops on the right place, but the the video is showing the first image again.
When I record my slide  there are some popup windows I have to move to the right place for making the slide look good. The time I use to move the popup window I want to cut out.
In the software I used before it was possible.

    Hi there
From what you posted it would seem you recorded your movie using Full Motion (FMV) recording mode. Ouch!
When you record using FMV, it is very similar to the old 8MM movies from years ago. If you filmed a room full of relatives and there was an ugly chair in the room, you would not be able to edit the movie so it mostly remained the same but the chair was gone. This sounds like what you are wanting to do.
With a FMV all Captivate will allow you to do is to split the recording or append (splice) other recording bits. If you are wondering where this capability is, it's in a different editor that's not all that simple to find. Basically you need to locate the clip in the Library. This is pretty easy to do. Just right-click the clip in the Captivate editor and choose Find in Library. This should highlight the clip. Now in the Library, right-click the clip and choose Edit. This should open the FMR Editor.
You would be well advised to ignore that FMV exists with Captivate. Seldom will you achieve a desirable result. Captivate works best in the Slide By Slide recording mode. We hope to see FMV "get there" and be on par with TechSmith's Camtasia Studio at some future point. Unfortunately, that point is likely to be a couple or three versions away.
If I have something requiring FMV, I use Camtasia and output that as a SWF that I insert into Captivate. You can get some really good stuff that way.

  • CP6, Recording slide...closed captions?

I've created my slides using the Insert Recording Slide function and included narration so I don't have to record the audio separately. Then I edit the slides in the Edit Video Demo screen...makes it awkward with not being able to see the audio, but I think I can work with it. However, I now have the problem of closed captions. With no separate audio file, how do I add closed captions? I can't find it anywhere.
I did find in the Library the audio file that was recorded along with the video file. I could, conceivably, import that audio file to the timeline and add captions from there. But then I can't trim the video and audio together (thus costing more editing time with trying to sync my edits). What am I missing?

Thanks for the info. So, my workaround at the moment is to export the audio from the video file, then import those audio files (it's usually more than one after I've done my trimming) into the slide itself, add the captions to that audio, and since I can't find how to mute the video file, I instead turn the volume way down on the imported audio files on the slide. The slide audio runs the CC, and the video/audio actually plays the sound. It's sync'd already, since I don't export/import until I've done all of my editing.
So will this be okay, or could there be an unforeseen problem with my swf project later? I have no way to test my swf project until it's imported by my publisher onto their servers...

  • Pasting recording slides

This is my first Captivate presentation; basically a learning experience.
I have a file that is converted from a PowerPoint slide show and another that is a recording of some activity in Word.  I attempted to copy slides from the recording and paste them into the PowerPoint presentation.
When pasted into the PowerPoint show, the recording slides don't render correctly. I don't see the full width of the original recording, and when it shows a click on an object at the edge of the display, it jumps out of place to fit in the space rendered.
Is that typical?  And what's the correct way to merge slides from PowerPoint and clips from a demo recording into a single Captivate presentation?

    Hello,
Have some questions: are those two files that you want to combine in one CP-file, if I understand well, the same resolution? How did you copy the slides? And what is the Quality setting of the slides (Properties panel, General region)?

  • Download from IR has different record set than on screen

Apex IR ( 3.2) query uses 2 page items to filter. Results are correct on screen but when downloaded we get a different record set as if one of the 2 Page items has not been passed in.

If you are having problems with the prints being a different size than what is on the screen, I believe there are two settings to try to adjust.  If you are using IE, you can check the Page button with the arrow down and look for "Text Size." Mine is set to "Medium."  Also you can go to the picture of the printer at the top and select the arrow down next to it and select Page Setup.  From there, you will see Enable Shrink-to-Fit which may be causing the problem or you can change the font type and size. Do you see these options?
If not, what kind of computer do you have and what web browser are you using?
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

  • I have been trying to import VHS video into iMovie via a Hollywood Dazzle bridge.  Did not have trouble until I upgraded to mavericks.  I have a mac book pro, 10.9.1, iMovie 10.0.2.  Says it is recording, but when I go to check, it says the file is empty.

I have been trying import VHS video into iMovie via a Hollywood Dazzle bridge.  I have been successful doing this in the past, but now it is not working.  I have a mac book pro, 10.9.1, (mavericks), iMovie 10.0.2.  Everything in iMovie looks like it is working.  It reads "recording" in the upper left hand corner of the pane while the video is playing.  When I stop the process to check on my clip it says that the file is empty.  The only thing that has changed since I did it successfully is that I upgraded to mavericks from whatever I had previously.  My system is about one year old.  Any suggestions?

    Hey, Clinton,
Thanks for your help!  I was able to go to iMovie 9.0.9 and import video.  I was still curious as to why it didn't work in version 10.0.2, so I contacted Apple tech support.  They were't sure at first as to why it wouldn't work, so they had me delete iMovie 10.0.2 and then re-install it just to see if something had gone wrong when it upgraded.  That didn't change anything.  In the end, they determined that 10.0.2 doesn't support the Hollywood Dazzle DV bridge.  But I have a workaround path from them that I will share so that it's possible to import to 9.0.9, then move it to 10.0.2.
         1.  Open iMovie 9 (finder/applications/iMovie 9.0.9
         2.  Import from Dazzle Bridge to iMovie 9, note which event you are importing the clips into
         3.  Close iMovie 9
         4.  Open iMovie 10 (probably in the dock)
         5.  File/Import Media...navigate to home(this was my name, on the left side of iMovie, under Favorites)/Movies/iMovie events.  Find the event folder that contains your Dazzle clips (tip-try sorting by date modified to look at recent events.)
         6.  Select the clips and import.  Click the blue "Import Selected" button on the bottom right.
You may get a message that some files cannot be imported.  Click continue import.  It's a little glitchy.  It imports your clip, and also makes a copy of it, too.  On the copy, the audio is normal, but the video is choppy.  In any case, you would delete the copy, anyway.
Hope this additional information helps somebody else.  Thanks again, Clinton for helping me!
