Do DVD's from a Macbook Air (OSX 10.5) work on an eMac (2005)?

I purchased a used eMac for my daughter but it did not come with the discs. The previous owner wiped the system and now I need to install the OS to the eMac. I'd prefer installing OSX 10.5 since it will work on the eMac, but want to know if I can use the discs from an older Macbook Air with 10.5 discs for this eMac. Thanks in advance.

Thank you! I am a native Dallasite but headed north about 27 years ago. I now say I am bilingual--I speak both English and Texan!
As you are in the US, you can try a long shot action. Get on the phone and call Apple's Store at 1-800-MY-APPLE. Ask to speak to an operating system specialist. Give them the serial number of the computer. You can find the number easily inside the door for the optical drive.
If they have the software for your model/sub-model on their servers, they can burn you a copy at a nominal charge, usualy around US$16 per disk.
You can also ask if they have 10.5 available on disk. Some people get the right agent and find they can still get burned copies from Apple. Again, both are long shots.
Before going much farther, let's deal with the two elephants in the room:
Elephant #1: Even the fastest eMac (1.42gHz 2005) is going to be a struggle with the modern internet. You will have an old version of Safari that many sites will reject as out of date. The modern internet has abandoned support for the powerPC processor used in all eMacs. You can get a browser, TenFourFox, that keeps the sites from rejecting your browser because it causes the sites to show you are using a recent version of FireFox.  However, it does not support Flash Player so videos are out. And it is slow. I use TenFourFox on an old G4 tower I keep running and, even on our speedy 50MBps cable conecction, many sites run slowly. That said, if you have older games contemporary with eMacs (2002-2005), they will do OK on faster eMacs. Same with productivity programs--Office 2004 runs quite nicely on G4 Macs.
You will not be able to find much new software that runs on that computer.
Elephant #2) A very large number of eMacs with USB 2.0 logic boards and 1.0 and 1.25Ghz processors have a fatal logic board fault that is not worth trying to fix, even if you can find someone who claims to be able to do it. See if the serlal number falls in any of these ranges:
G8412xxxxxx- G8520xxxxxx
YM412xxxxxx - YM520xxxxxx
VM440xxxxxx - VM516xxxxxx
If it does, my recommendation is to stop any action on the computer now and don't throw any money at it.
So we need to pin down your version (there were four versions in two "families"). Please use this Apple article to find which you have and tell us:
eMac: How to locate the serial number and identify your model - Apple Support
Then we can recommend whether to proceed or look for a used Intel Mac--the better choice.

I am trying to enter OPM/E-QIP Application but am told browser is not recognized, to go to: tools, options, advanced, encrytion, enable, SSL3.0 and TLS 1.0.  How to get to Tools?

Here's what OPM says to do to configure Safari, if that's the browser you're using (sort of; their instructions wouldn't get you where you need to be with Safari 5.1.7:
    1) Select Safari, then Preferences from the menubar.
    2) Click Advanced
    3) Click the check box next to "Show Develop Menu in the Menu Bar"
    4) Close the Preferences window
    5) Select Develop from the menubar
    6) Select User Agent, then "an appropriate browser" (OPM's words); they suggest Firefox for the Mac
This information came from their Quick Reference Guide (other than correcting an error about how to set the user agent), and I haven't tested it.  If this doesn't work, you probably need to ask OPM (or their contractor) how to use the site with a Mac ...
    Good luck

  • Why can't i airdrop from my macbook pro (OSX 10.9.5) to my ipad air (IOS 8.0.2)

why can't i airdrop from my macbook pro (OSX 10.9.5) to my ipad air (IOS 8.0.2)
    OR
    How do I............

    Wow, that's very disappointing.
I see that you can transfer between two Macs but not, as you say, between older Macs and iOS.
For others, the following is from Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to nearby Macs and iOS devices
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed and your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model. To transfer files between two Mac computers, you need one of the Mac models listed below and OS X Lion or later.
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)*
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)*
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)
*The MacBook Pro (17-Inch Late 2008) and the white MacBook (Late 2008) do not support AirDrop.

Apps for OSX aren't in iTunes: they are in the App Store in your Applications folder. The payment method is the one registered in iTunes. There's no app actually called Yoga Studio, though there are several Yoga apps. There is an iOS app called Yoga Studio but it appears to have no OSX equivalent, though I haven't done a detailed search.

  • When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.

    Problem:
When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.
Any help that you can provide in helping my iPhone accurately sync with iPhoto and iTunes will be greatly appreciated.
    Symptoms:
    1)   Sync:  It’s not completing the sync.  Below, I’ve provided all of my settings from the iTunes Summary tab so that you might tell me if I’ve selected any incorrect options.  I prefer to sync the “old school” way – by connecting to the computer – as opposed to syncing over the cloud. Perhaps this is what’s causing the problem? Here is a list of the steps displayed in the iTunes window as the sync progresses:
waiting for sync to start (step 1 of 7)
backing up (step 2 of 7)
preparing to sync (step 3 of 7)
determining apps to sync (step 4 of 7)
preparing apps to sync (step 5 of 7)
importing photos (step 6 of 7)
waiting for changes to be applied (step 7 of 7)
syncing apps / copying 1 of 4 (App name) (step 7 of 7)
    canceling sync
    apple icon
    2)   Photos: I've selected only certain of my iPhoto albums to sync to my iPhone.  All of the albums are correct/complete in iPhoto.  All of the albums are listed on my iPhone, both before and after the sync, but the albums are empty (no actual photos) before and after the sync. Perhaps this is tied to the fact that the sync isn’t completing, but because “importing photos” is one of the steps that the incomplete sync displays, I don’t know.
    3)   Apps: When I launch iTunes and click on the Apps folder under the Library listing, then click on the Updates tab, iTunes searches for any Apps needing to be updated and provides a list.  If I click on Update All, the Apps are successfully updated in iTunes.  But, when I plug in my iPhone so that the updates will transfer to the apps on my iPhone, the updates don’t transfer to the apps on my iPhone and those apps still reflect that they need updating on the iPhone.
    Other Potential Pertinent Info:
The flash memory hard drive on my MacBook Air recently died (perhaps a month or two ago).  Apple had emailed me about a known issue and literally the next day, my MacBook Air crashed.  I installed a new flash memory drive and re-installed everything from a backup off of an external hard drive.  Everything seems to be working fine; it recreated accurately all of my software and data, including iPhoto and iTunes, the pictures and songs (respectively) for which are stored on that hard drive, as opposed to being on the flash memory in the MacBook Air itself.  However, I don’t recall if the start of the sync problem described herein started happening at the same time that I replaced the flash memory drive.  All I know is that the computer is working perfectly in all respects and that even as the sync is failing, it at least says that it’s doing the right things and looking in the right places (e.g., the list of albums on my iPhone matches the list of albums in iTunes, etc.).
    Settings/Status:
    MacBook Air
    OSX v. 10.9
    iPhoto ’11 v. 9.5 (902.7)
    iPhone iOS 7.0.4
    iTunes v. 11.1.3 (8)
    Summary Tab
    Backups (This Computer)
    Options
Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected
Sync only checked songs and videos
    Photos Tab
Sync Photos from iPhoto (429 Photos)
Selected albums, Events, and Faces, and automatically include (no Events)
    Albums – 9 are selected

You need to download iTunes on your computer. iOS 6 requires the latest version of iTunes which is 10.7.

  • I cannot eject disk from my MacBook Air

I cannot eject a disk from my MacBook Air.   I've tried many options.    Any suggestions?

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

Click on the blue Internet Recovery in nbar's post. That is a link to what computers can run Internet Recovery.
Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

    OS X Recovery (2)
When you reboot, use Setup Assistant to restore your data.

  • I would like to download my iTunes library onto a mac mini running OS 10.4.11 (and iTunes version 9.0.2), or transfer it from my macbook air, running OS 10.7.5. Tried downloading direct from iTunes and file sharing, but neither is working.

Hello apple support community!  I'm trying to download my music purchases from iTunes onto my old Mac Mini.  It runs OS 10.4.11 and doesn't have the capacity to upgrade to a newer OS.  When I ask iTunes to check for available downloads, it says there are none.  I have tried updating the iTunes software (version 9.0.2) but it can't connect to the server, even though I am on a wireless network.  I've tried using home sharing and file sharing with my macbook air, but neither are working.  Grateful for any suggestions!!  The only thing I really use this mini for is music, so really hoping to be able to get my music purchases on there.  Thanks.

Thanks, Jim, for taking the time, but the reply is unfortunately vague in the exact area of my confusion!  "you need to copy that file to your new computer..."  Well, the Import/Export instructions make it seem as if the two computers should be able to communicate this file thru wifi, but that's the linkage I can't seem tocreate with Import/Export.  Should I instead email a copy to myself (thats what applecare suggested)?  Copy it to and from a thumb drive?  But then place the file where?  And the article was helpful, but should I be trying to move the Library file or the Library.xml file (as iTunes Help suggests)?  Sorry to be so clueless about it...I suppose I buy Apple in the hopes of not having to think about this stuff, which approach seems not to be serving me well. Thanks again for your time!

  • How can i remove MacKeeper from my macbook air?

How can i remove MacKeeper from my macbook air?

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows. First, back up all data.
"MacKeeper" has only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.
