Do FW CS5 files open in FW CS4?

Are there any compatibility issues with opening a file created in Fireworks CS5 in Fireworks CS4?

I haven't had any problems with opening very simple documents. Where you would be most likely to have problems is opening documents that use features of FW CS5 that don't exist in CS4.

Files opening in bridge cs4, not cs5

I have all my graphics types associated with bridge, but they open in cs4, and changing the association (in open with...) does nothing.
Maybe I should just uninstall bridge cs4?

Afraid that I might be called a smartypants I still suggest a different approach.
Personally I want my .psd-files to open in eg. Photoshop if I double click them from within Windows Explorer. Same with .indd/ai opening in InDesign or Illustrator.
Therefore I've made a .reg file that contains this:

This gives me the possibility to right click a folder, sadly not a specific file, and have it "open"/previewed/organized in Bridge.
Naturally this doesn't help your current issue with Bridge CS4 opening instead of CS5.
Just wanted to give you a possible workaround.
If everything else fails contacting Adobe Support could be an option...

Problem with saving pdf in CS5 and opening it in CS4

I have just got an Illustrator CS5 – my colleague’s works in CS4. We are always working directly in pdf-format.
If I make a pdf in CS5, my colleagues can’t open this pdf in Illustrator CS4.
I know that I can save to CS4 if I work in AI-format, but I would like to continue working in pdf.
Have any of your tried the same and can you help me with this? Thanks

It could have been so nice if it was possible to decide which version I would save my pdf in like it is possible in Autodesk products to save to an older version of there dwg-files.
All can read pdf but there are so few who can read AI. So If I want to work in CS5, I have to save in AI to my CS4 colleaques and in pdf to my pdf-reading customers.

Dwg files opening blank in CS4

I have two .dwg files that were emailed to me and are opening up as a blank screen in AI CS4. I've never had a problem opening .dwg files before. They are both drawings produced in ProE. Any thoughts/suggestions on how I can get these files to open properly?

CAD files are done in sheets each sheet is like a revised drawing with additions and deletions they retain al the sheets and all he underlying work and paths etc. To dumb it down they delete all the sheets except the current one they save it as a copy s they retain the working drawing.
That way you only get what is current and nothing else, which is what you need.
That makes for a small and more stable file.
They can also save the file in an older version like 2002.
If that dies not work ask them to export it as an eps.

Why Can't I export cs5 file to .idml for cs4?

I can't convert it to an .idml to open with cs4 for some reason. I had read something about certain fonts causing export problems in the past so i made an alternate version with only Tahoma font (I know there are alot of pink boxes, I would convert them in cs4), link below

The error I get for the first file is out of memory, for the second I can get a Visual C++ runtime error

... nope, it crashes out for me as well. I'll try again tomorrow, but I think this is going to be a case where the only thing to do is going to be to chop the file into smaller pieces, export the pieces, and rebuild the complete file from the IDML fragments in CS4.

InDesign 2.0 files open with InDesign CS4.

Hi,
I works with InDesign 2.0 and want upgrade to InDesign CS4. Can I open InDesign 2.0 files with InDesign CS4?
Or need I a conversion tool for the files. which tool is it.

2.0 files will open up fine in CS4, you won't need any special conversion tools. However once you've opened the file in CS4 and changed it you will have to save it as a CS4 file. There is no way you can open that file again in 2.0 unless you have all the versions in between, and even then it would be very messy and time consuming.

How to open an InDesign CS5 file in CS4 - error message.

I worked on a file in Mac's OS Adobe CS5 InDesign
at school; emailed it to my home address; tried to open it in Windows
XP Adobe CS4 (I've done the same thing with other InDesign
files recently without problems) and received the following error message:
"Cannot open "file name". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign." To the left is a list of 18 (!) plug-ins.
Of course when I click "OK" I'm sent back to a blank .indd screen.
Solutions? Suggestions? More info needed?

I'll give this a try when I return to class on Thursday. I am puzzled that other InD CS5 files have opened in CS4 after a message that "some data may be lost" - which I have clicked "OK", edited the file and emailed it back to school to open in CS5. Oh, well, if this works I'll use it on all the CS5 files that I create in class.

I recently upgraded from mac cs4 to cs5.5. Due to a bug? with cs5 ai illustrator 'Pixel Preview' won't show 1 bit tiff files as it did in cs4 (the workaround is time consuming/wasting). This is a problem for me as most of my files contain them, GGrrrr. Is it possible to have cs5 Bridge open cs4 ai files actually in cs4 rather than opening them in cs5?

Yes, either set the file type association in Bridge prefs for 'ai' at CS4. But it seems somewhat difficult when having newer versions, sometimes whatever pref settings in Bridge or Finder/get info/ open with/you try it keeps opening in the latest version.
In that case either drag and drop the files on the CS4 icon in the dock or with right click mouse menu choose open with and select illustrator CS4.
Although you can only have one version of Bridge open at the time you can have the other suite applications from different version open at the same time.

Opening CS5 files in Fireworks CS4

Hi all,
I work at a web dev/design company, and we are very eager to upgrade to CS5. However, there are just two of us that use Fireworks extensively (and I mean, we both use it a LOT!). If we were to upgrade, we'd have to upgrade everyone, and this would cost us a bunch of $'s.
If we were to only upgrade 2 of our users from Fireworks CS4 to Fireworks CS5, would our colleagues be able to open CS5 files in FW CS4?
Has anyone had any experience with this?

I just opened a small graphics file I created in FWCS4 in FWCS5 without any problems. It's possible that if your files use features that don't exist in CS4 you'll have problems opening them.

Open Flash CS5 file in CS4

Hey all,
I think I know the answer to this, but ... Is there any way I can open a CS5 file in CS4? A designer I'm working with created some files using her CS5. She's on vacation for 2 weeks (so I can't have her edit or resend the files as CS4) and I just got an email that the client needs a couple tweeks and all I have is CS4. Is there any way (or any program) that can backwards convert a CS5 file?

If you had access to CS5 you could save as CS5 or save as CS4 (but not CS3 or below). But opening a CS5 Flash file in Flash CS4 produces a "unexpected file type" error.

Paragraph style issue when opening imdl (CS5) file in CS4

Sending a CS5 file to a printer using CS4. When they open the imdl file in CS4, it changes the paragraph style in the pull quotes. The initial character, whether a letter or a quote, appears tiny. It looks like a paragraph style issue. The 'quote' paragraph style in CS4 has a drop cap set on it.
Has anyone else had this problem or have a suggested fix? Certainly, we can check our files in CS4 before sending each time, but what a pain!

IDML is meant as an interchange format, and is far from "the same file but in another version".
If your printer wants a CS4 file, send them a CS4 file. Better yet, ask them why you have to send them native files anyway and what's their problem with a PDF?

Indesign file won't open native CS5 file, gives me "missing plug-in or being used?

I've tried to open both a CS4 and CS5 file from another designer, and it gives me a message "InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file may be missing, or the file may be open in another application." (which it is not) I've downloaded the update, but still no luck. Any ideas?

Are you sure it's an InDesign file? How did you get the file?

Illustrator 10 files lose color of linked ps files when opened in ai CS4

I'm sending these files to an ftp site - in folders containing 4 or 5 linked colored photoshop files ( some RGB some CMKY 8 bits/channel )-- recipient says the linked files open in black and white!
Is anyone haveing the same problem --- or know a solution -- or some leads ???

Do you think CS4 is unique -- and not able to open version 10 in color ?    I'm going to save my version 10 files in CS5 and resend to client/printer.
one other element to this is I'm sending the files to an ftp site via Filezilla --   any advice on any of this is appreciated.

Editing CS5 files in CS4

I started a project in CS5 and I now have to work in CS4. I can't edit the files I have been working on because of the unavaliable capabilities. How can I fix this problem?

So you already somehow opened the CS5 file in CS4?
Then look into the layers panel and see what you've got. Most probably it's either a group or a clipping path. Release it and then edit.
But you would be better off if you first used CS5 to save the file down to CS4 and then edit it.

Flash Pro CS5 crashes opening large-ish files

When I try to open any FLAs greater than 50Meg or so, I get "Could not open one or more scenes probably beacuse of low memory" dialog box. This dialog appears several times, then Flash crashes.The system has 4G total physical memory, and plenty (2 Gig+) of physical memory is free and available when the crash occurs.
The same files can be opened on a Mac running CS5. The files were originally CS4, but I tried using the Mac to save them in CS5 format, and the CS5 files also consistenyly fail to open.
I running a pretty fresh install of Windows 7 64 on a Dell Studio 1645 with an i7 Q820 processor with 4G RAM and oodles of free disk space. Flash Pro is part of a new install of Web Premium CS5. I have installed the latest 11.0.2 patch. The crash details are

See to it that you regularly update the debug version of the flash player (it won`t automatically update with the regular one)
