Presumably, you want Snow Leopard in order to be able to run PowerPC applications.  If so, more information can be found here:

I still don't know which version of OSX you have but assuming it's 10.7 or 10.8 .....
You need to press command-R (at the sound of the chime) to get into recovery, try that, if it does not work try command-option-R for Internet Recovery.

I want to reinstall OS on my 2012 MacBook Pro. It shipped with 10.8, but now runs 10.9. Can I reinstall straight to 10.9, or do I have to reinstall 10.8 and upgrade again to 10.9?

Best to install 10.9 straight up. If you still have your OS 10.9 downloaded file you can use that, or you can go to the app store and download it again. It will be in your previous purchase history. Or you could even upgrade to 10.10. If you want to start from scratch you will need to boot from USB or DVD and initialise (erase) your internal HD. To do create a bootable USB thumb drive with OS 10.9 or 10.10 follow this guide

I have it running on the latest NON-Retina MBP. And a good friend of mine has it running on his Retina model. Works fine.

If you need to revisit them...that's why you install FCS3.  That's really the only reason I have that on my system, to revisit old projects, and to deal with clients who still use FCP 7.
You really should look at moving on though...not sticking with FCP7. It's 4 years old...two years since it was EOL.  Adobe Premiere Pro CC is a very good FCP replacement...although I don't like their "rental" method of paying a subscription to use it.  Or you can buy Adobe CS6...but that just lacks enough to make it not quite tempting for me.  Premiere CC is spot on...but **** if I don't hate that subscription model.  But there's also Avid Media Composer.  But that doesn't do a lot of things that I used FCP and Adobe for...

  • Can't Get MacBook 2007 Model to accept two sticks of 1GB 667 Mhz DDR2 RAM.

So I had this situation running on an older version of this MacBook, two sticks of 1GB. That computer broke so I want to do the same on this "newer" one. However when I put two 1GB ram inside it will not boot. Just the Disc Drive starts up and a black screen.
The most frustrating part is when I insert one of the previous 256MB sticks in with a 1GB, it will turn on but will be really slow.
I've tried everything I can think of. Different 1GB sticks. Putting them in different slots but I cannot seem to get it to run with 2GB.

If you bought your RAM at a place that also sells PC RAM you may have gotten mislabelled RAM. PCs can handle different RAM speeds so they’ll often label higher speed RAM as a lower speed rather than make two different speeds of RAM. But Macs are much more picky. They require a RAM stick to be exactly 667mhz not 675mhz or 800mhz. The way to tell is to put one of your old RAM sticks in and it will force the new RAM to run at the correct speed.
This is from one review of PNY RAM:
"These modules are actually 800Mhz. PNY no longer makes or sells 667Mhz modules. Not all computers that require 667Mhz are compatible with 2 800Mhz modules. They refuse to down clock properly. This is especially true with a number of Core 2 Duo MacBooks. Spoke to PNY support, they flat out told me that yes, they sell 800Mhz modules in 667Mhz packaging. If you RMA a module that is 667Mhz (or supposed to be 667Mhz) they will replace it with an 800Mhz module as they no longer have any 667Mhz SODIMMs, not even for RMA replacement!"
These are good online stores for Mac compatible RAM
OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/ - They offer Mac tested RAM at very good prices.
Crucial Memory http://www.crucial.com/ - good place to buy RAM from all over the world. They also have an excellent memory selector that allows you to choose memory based on your computer's model
Data Memory Systems http://www.datamemorysystems.com/apple-memory.asp - another good, cheap place to buying RAM if you live in the U.S.

  • How do I install an SSD into my 2007 Macbook?

    Hi All,
I did some searching online, but couldn't conclusively find a step-by-step procedure to installing an SSD into my 2007 Santa Rosa Blackbook.
My mac has been running slow, and I've upped the memory to 2gb (I will be upping it to 4 shortly), but also wanted to consider an SSD as well. I know how to physically install the SSD, but my questions are:
Will it work with my specific macbook?
I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, will that have this "TRIM" update for SSDs?
Do I have to contact Apple for a Snow Leopard boot disk?
With my mobo, is my speed limited to SATA I? I heard about a possibly way to up it to SATA II but not sure about this...(is it true?)
I heard we have to format SSDs before we can use them. If I manage to get a boot disk from Apple, can it handle the formating after turning it on with the new hard drive (through BIOS)
Lastly, any make and model you guys suggest? There's no point for me to get at SATA III, so I don't want to spend a lot of money. Let's assume 80 - 120 gb for now.
Any help or step-by-step instruction would be terrific!
    Thanks a bunch!!

    Hey Eric,
Thanks for the link! Though, I actually know how to physically install the SSD. It was my other questions that I'm getting puzzled by. Any ideas on those?
EDIT: Actually, it answered one of the questions about transferring my data, so cool!
    Thanks!

    Klapschaats,
Unfortunately, the installation media that comes with your Mac will only work with that particular machine. These installation discs are not the same as a retail copy of Leopard. The retail installation disc can be installed on any supported machine. The installation media that came with your Macbook Pro for example has data on it meant only for that machine. Think of it also as something like an "OEM" disc for Windows when you purchase a machine from Dell. That particular installation disc is licensed only for that machine and contains files specifically for that machine.

  • Problems with my keys on my Macbook 2007 after replacing my harddrive and re loading 10.4 software Help !!!

Hi I replaced the harddrive on my Macbook 2007 model all seemed well after I had re loaded my software until i noticed I had lost use of some of the keys.
When I used a key which was working it would repeat continually untill another key was selected , then over a couple of days I lost use of all the keys and now I lost on this issue, I bought an external usb keyboard which initially worked now the keys i select on the external keyboard repeat continually, weird to say the least which leads me to beleive its a software issue not a hardware one as I suspected initially. Can anyone help ???

You could try trashing the appropriate preferences file. (I don't have OS 10.4 on any computer so I cannot verify the precise name.)
    Users / yourself / Library / Preferences.
Look for any file that is named com.apple.keyboard...
There is no danger in trashing a Preferences file. It is immediately replaced with a new one.

Can I purchase Mountain Lion and make a flash drive bootable? I do not want to install it on my Macbook Pro. I have Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro now, and due to my hard drive needing repair, I need to boot off of another source, like my flash drive. I am in Paris and my Snow Leopard DVD is in Texas.

Mac OS X has a built-in disk diagnostic and repair program called fsck or file system consistency check. Here’s how to verify and repair your startup disk with fsck.  As soon as you hear the startup tone, press and hold Command-S on the keyboard. Keep holding down those keys until you see a black screen with white lettering. This is called “booting into Single User Mode.”  As the Mac boots in this mode, the screen reports each step of the process. The line should end in root#.  Right after the root# prompt, enter the following: /sbin/fsck -fy
If repairing the disk in single user mode fails, it means one of two things. Either your hard drive itself is failing (a hardware failure), or the directory damage on your hard drive is beyond the capability of the built-in repair procedures in OS X.

  • Installing Tiger on a Macbook Pro that came only with Leopard

    Hi guys,
Any ideas on how to install Tiger onto a Macbook Pro that came preloaded with Leopard, and only has a Leopard disc?
I've got a refurbished Macbook Pro recently. Realised that one of my application doesn't work, Capture One Pro. Visited Phase One's website and they said it only supports 3.9 and above at the time it was released, which makes it 10.4.10.
Systems in the story below: Macbook Pro Core Cuo. Macbook Pro C2D (new set), Mac Pro, iMac Core 2 Duo
    Here's what I've tried
    1. I've an original disk that came with my MBP CD. When I try to boot from that disk on my MBP C2D, it gives me the crash screen -> "please hold the power for secs to restart".
    2. I've tried installing Tiger onto my iMac and did a harddisk clone via Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) to my MBP CD. Tiger was able to run on my MBP CD fine.
    3. Then I tried using CCC to clone it over to my MBP C2D. It doesn't work. Shows me the crash screen.
    4. I've tried installing Tiger on my Mac Pro. Used CCC to clone over the disk image to MBP C2D. Doesn't work too. Crash screen.
    5. Created disk images of Tiger with Disk Utility on iMac, Mac Pro. Tried to restore using the iMac, Mac Pro disk images of Tiger. Doesn't work. Shows me the crash screen.
    6. Updated Tiger to 10.4.11 on my Mac Pro. Created disk image using Disk Utility. Restored MBP C2D with it. Crash screen on load.
I'm out of ideas and Apple Support won't open until Monday.
It seems that this MBP C2D is set on not installing Tiger, no matter what. Wonder if getting hold of a Tiger retail disc will do the trick?

You can install tiger onto a MacBook Pro up to version 3,1.
Run System Profiler and under hardware:
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1 This line is the model number!
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B00
    SMC Version: 1.27f1
    Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXXX
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled
I have got tiger installed onto this MacBookPro which is the latest 4,1 model, but you require the latest Tiger disk (which the Apple Genius had in my case), but the volume, brightness and trackpad gestures do not work! Everything else is fine.
