Do I finalize before I send to idvd?

I just want to know if I have to finalize a project in iMovie before I burn it in iDVD. Does anyone know?

Finalize will share the project to the Media Browser in all possible sizes. If you are making a DVD, you probably only need one size (I recommend LARGE 960x540), so you can save time by using SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER in Large size.
In iDVD, use the Media Browser to bring your movie into your project.
I do not recommend using SHARE/to iDVD. Most people get better results with the Media Browser. However, if you do use SHARE/to iDVD, there is no need to finalize first.

Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced two-pass technology to encode your video (The first pass determines which parts of the movie can be given greater compresson without quality loss and which parts can’t. The second pass then encodes those different parts accordingly) , resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned about the time taken.
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

Slideshow in iphoto, once shared send to idvd, becomes lower quality

Hello,
I made a slideshow in iphoto 8.1.2 that looks great, using the "snapshot" theme. I need to be able to play this in a regular dvd player attached to a tv. I hit share > send to idvd.
In idvd 7.0.4, I set up my menu page (used "shelves" theme), set my show to loop and then previewed everything, and the resolution looks like crap compared to the original slideshow from iphoto. I haven't even put it on a dvd yet, because I figure if the resolution looks worse in idvd preview than in iphoto preview, I need to resolve that before burning.
Within idvd, my project preferences are set to ntsc, professional quality encoding, and single layer dvd type. I just noticed now my preferred dvd burning speed is set to maximum possible, so maybe that's the problem. But before I try again, is there anything else I should do differently to maintain the original image quality from iphoto?
My knowledge level of both macs and ilife is very basic, so please keep that in mind with any replies.

Welcome to Apple Discussions. Sorry to hear about the loss in resolution when working with slide shows within iDvd. You're not the first member on this forum to experience this. It's the nature of the beast (sorry to say) when working with Standard Definition and then burning to Dvd-R. iDVD makes DVDS, which are by definition "standard definition" / SD. Have a new Macbook Pro. While in IMovie, having completed a project and attempting to send to IDVD, am unable because the IDVD choice does not appear on the drop down under Share. How do I find or add IDVD to my new Mac.

Would like to know if I can connect a macbook pro and link to a PC in any way and still access the macbook pro's files. Display is out/have black screen. I want to back up before I send for repair, but don't own another mac to restart 7.

Is there any way to connect my 2011 macbook pro to my PC laptop (Dell) so that I can get files off of the Mac? The display on the pro is out and I've got a black screen. The computer turns on. Actually it turned on one time after many tries and when I took it the Mac store the guy hit restart before I could stop him. I don't have another Mac to back up files to in restart 7 mode and I can't see my external hard drive to copy to when the computer has no display, so I am at a loss on how to get the files. I would like to get them before I send in for repairs. Any suggestions are appreciated.

The only other thing I can think of is to pull the drive out and hook it to another machine with a USB enclosure. Something like this:

Why is the "Send to iDVD" command missing from the share menu in iPhoto 9.4.3 when trying to send a slideshow to iDVD?

How come the "Send to iDVD" command is missing from the share menu? In iPhoto I used to be able to send my slideshows to iDVD simply my clicking on the slideshow, selecting the "Share" menu at the top and going to "Send to iDVD". Now in iPhoto 9.4.3 that option is missing.
Further i am also using iDVD 7.1.2 and running OSX version 10.8.3.

Export the slideshow via the Export button at the bottom of the slideshow window with Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, choose a theme and drag the exported movie file to the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. You need at least two independent backups to be completely safe. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore to an empty drive.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

If it does not respond when plugged to a computer running the latest version of iTunes, then it is indeed dead and no content will be recoverable.

Can a class or Module be executed before the sender File Adapter execute?

In case of sender adapter the module in the module processor gets executed after the adapter has performed its operation.
Is there a way I can execute the module before the sender adapter starts execution?
Or Is it possible to specify a java class to be executed before adapter, through configuration in the communication channel or some other way?

HI Vijendra,
The File module adapter is the first one to get executed.
The only thing you can do is to run shell scripts if you have to do any activity in the folder or on the file.

If I print an email after it's sent, it prints out Subj, from,date,to and text info. I want to print all this info before I send, not just the text. How?

If I address and compose an email and try to print it before I send it, it only prints the text, not the "Subject," "From, Date," and "To" lines in the email. After I send it, if I go into the sent register and print the same e-mail it prints out all these lines along with the text.

Im seeing the same thing.
You can take a screenshot or copy/paste the email into Notes and then print from there.

'Send to iDVD" from iPhoto problems - photos don't show up properly

When I send photos/albums from iPhoto to iDVD using the function: Share->Send to iDVD' iDVD opens up, but the screen is blank in iDVD, the project info shows the photos are there, but there is nothing playing - just the blank screen.
When I do the same action on our Tiger iMac it works as advertised, not so on our Leopard iMac.
All software is up to date - iDVD 08, iPhoto 7.1.4

Thank you. It doesn't actually "fail" in that it crashes or comes up with any error messages etc. It just doesn't show anything in the screen. I have pasted the Console entries that came up when I sent album to iDVD - can't see much evidence in there but you might?

If you are on release 620, have a look at class CL_ABAP_MEMORY_UTILITES method GET_MEMORY_SIZE_OF_OBJECT. It will tell you how much memory is allocated and how much is actually used. Here is some sample code:
