Do I get a backup file?

I am going to purchase Photoshop Elements 10 but have downloaded the trial version. I am sure this is the same file but when I purchase it the serial number will activate the license. If my hard drive fails at some point and I need to reinstall it, where is my backup file? Do I get a disk version mailed to me? Is this an option?

Also, Hardware crashes or virus infections or simple software problems happen, so you should buy AND USE software to make a full backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... plus, making step-by-step backups during a new install or major program addition makes it easy to go back a step if something doesn't work
This backup and then restore is, of course, only to the same computer with a new drive (or the same drive as long as you don't mind writing over everything) since doing a restore to a new computer won't work due to Windows and many programs having activation information that is keyed to your hardware (which is why Windows will force you to RE-Activate if you change very much hardware)

Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive in case of a crash, and not have to re-install anything
Please note that I own no part of Image, and I don't get a referral fee (that is just a plain web link) but I use the program and it has saved me a LOT of trouble when I had a hard drive die... and I was able to restore everything and not have to re-install or re-activate a single program, from Windows on up

Ive recently had to start using another computer due to a component failure, and as a result managed to wiped my iphone of its original contents during an update on the 'new' computer. I have my old hard drive connected to this computer via a docking station, and can access all the files on it with no problems. I've deleted any itunes stuff on the 'new' computer so that the only apple/itunes stuff is on my old hard drive, but when i launch itunes, its not like it was when i left it. no music loaded in library etc. not a major issue as the music is all still on the hard drive. My issue is with the apps and back ups for my phone. I can view the folders with the back ups in, but they wont show in itunes. I'd love to restore my phone back to how it use to be.
Can anyone help me out, as i'm at a brick wall with my knowledge level.

You can open an alternate library by holding down shift when starting iTunes.
A GUID is a Globaly Unique IDentifier. I this case I the backup folders appear to be named bunch of numbers & letters probably meant to be unique. If your original library opens properly (and you haven't wiped the device) then you don't need to worry about restoring the iPhone backups from the previous system.
There's another GUID buried in the iTunes Library.itl that identifies your old library as the "home" library for your device. If you try to connect the device to a new library, even if it has all the same content, iTunes will want to wipe the device and start over. Not so much a problem for media but you might lose app settings. Best if you can connect properly to your old library, otherwise restoring from a preserved backup should restore your app data.

Can Apple/Itunes help me find backup files?

Are backup files connected to my itunes account? or are they only saved on the computer/laptop that I synced and backed up my ipod with? And is it possible for Apple/Itunes to help me find or get my backup files? I am aware that I am not the only one that makes backups on Itunes and stuff and I know that millions of other people also backup their ipod touches, iphones, etc. I'm not trying to sound like the world revolves around me and that Apple will do everything to help me...but I just want an answer or any other possible solutions. I would really appreciate it.

This user tip outlines the method I recommend for backing up your library. Provided your library is all self contained it is possible to hook up a drive containing this kind of backup to any other machine running the same build of iTunes, connect to the library and update your devices.
The iOS device backup is intended to restore an iOS device in the event of a problem, or loss & replacement. It is possible to move these backup file sets from one machne to another, but it's not easy, and not really necessary as long as you migrate your library and then back up the device once on the new computer before doing anything drastic to the old one.

Locked iPod Touch Backup File

I just restored my fathers iPod Touch first generation which had a locked backup. After restoring he remembered he had some important notes on the iPod. When trying to restore backup file it asked us for the password. He no longer remembers it. Is there ANYTHING we can do to get this backup file unlocked? ANYTHING to break in, whatever. Please Help!

I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots. Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.

I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library. Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

Open Pictures folder and move the files named lrcat-journal and lrcat.lock to Desktop.
Make sure that , they are not inside Pictures folder any more and try to open backup from Lighrtroom and check..
Any LRcat file with .lock extension , move it to Desktop.

My bookmarks disappear when I close Firefox. I can get them back by reloading them from a backup file but they disappear again when I restart Firefox. I've tried the "taskmanager, Process, Firefox.exe, stop process, and it doesn't work.

Ok this is bizzare!
Thank you for your response, I went throught each and every step without any luck, even got the recovery programme, and painstakingly tried to sift through all that mumbojumbo to find what i needed. finally found the bookmark bit, but it had been fully overwritten :(, so on reading about previous ff versions, found the sqlite thingys, and they were relatively unscathed(partly written over, but saveable apparently TG), saved them to adiff drive, amongst other possibly good folders. Then looked up how to install them, and it said to close FF, and install to profile folder.
So i tried to close FF, and the original problem from a few days ago, where it asked me if 'i was sure i wanted to close this window as it has X tabs open', popped up again. This is where 'open blank page' selection was set, over 'open previous tabs'. Wanting to save that info on how to sort out these friggin files, I reset the Option to 'open previous tabs', and closed FF. After unsucessfully searching for the profile folder on my laptop, i opened FF intending to search online for where i could find said folder.
AND BANG, surprise surprise, the FF I had just closed with only tabs open about finding out what the heck to do, had disappeared, and instead my original saved tabs were up, and my bookmarks are there..... I am gobsmacked! what the heck just happened there???

I am also unable to restore any of the backups of the bookmarks, both automatic backups and two backups that I created manually. Since I was able to restore backups before, and since no changes have occurred to these backup files, the problem must be with Firefox.
Right before my bookmarks disappeared, FF crashed and I accidentally started FF 3.5. When I saw what I did, I ended the Firefox process and started FF 4. That's when all my bookmarks were gone and I discovered I couldn't retrieve any backups. I did note that an add-on was updated when I restarted FF. Maybe that's the problem. Does FF have a Safe mode?

Problems with restoring a backup file after I had to get a new computer!

I have tried many times now in many different ways to restore my library. I have the backup files on my desktop and the itunes software loaded I have tried importing the backup files but I get the message that some of the the files were not imported because they could not be found. Then absoulutely nothing is in my library. The files are fine but nothing will import. I need help.

On your iMac launch iTunes and at the top next to the Apple symbol click iTunes > Preferences > Devices and tell me what you see. You last sync should be there showing only a device name. If you have an older backup it will be there as well the difference is it will be the device name with a date and time stamp. Sync and backups are two different things and there is a chance iTunes made a backup the first time you hooked up your iPhone 5.

FYI- I downloaded the "Domain.sites2" file from your page (because I deleted mine yeterday) So now the file is sitting on my desktop in my "Download" window.
I see the good back-up file I want to use on my desktop, but when I go to drag the file from my desktop and drop it in "Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb", it does not take. I am not allowed to drop files on that iWeb page directly. (I tried to drop the the "Domain.sites2" file from the Download window, but that also does not allow me to drag and drop it directly to the iWeb folder.)

Opened Firefox - all bookmarks gone, nothing in history. Nothing backed up. As I attempt to restore, none of my restore points can be accessed, I get error message that says: "unable to process backup file" What has happened? Everything worked fine yesterday - and I have performed no updates.

It's actually quite simple to restore your lost information. Hover your Firefox Menu Tab and click the Bookmarks Menu. The little box will pop up. Click on Import and Backup ... the second option down is "restore" . Hit that and it should give you a list of dates that Firefox auto-saves your bookmarks. Just pick a date and apply. If this doesn't help. You may have to revert to an earlier version or check your addons.
