Do I have a door stopper?

Hi, hopefully somebody will be able to help me.
I bought a used laptop B570.. Right now the computer does not boot as it does not recognize the Wi-Fi card and halts there. Also, it won't boot with the battery inserted. If I try to insert the battery while it is on, the laptop will beep once and turn off. I think it has to do with the BIOS not recognizing the battery anymore. So I tried to reinstall the BIOS, but  am getting an error that the battery must be inserted.
How to reinstall the BIOS without the battery
Other notes:
I removed the Wi-Fi card, and was able to boot with the CDROM to a simulated Windows XP (using Hiren's Tools)
The last person removed the hard drive for security reason

Hi,
You're welcome and glad it helped
All the best,

  • How do I find out if I have back door port issues.

I recently got to looking at my MacBook Pro and noticed that I had a couple of programs most likely put there by my kids that download movies and stuff. One was Limewire and there was another one called torrent something. I dont know a lot about them but have friends that are telling me that these programs will install some sort of back door access to my computer that will slow it down. I have recently deployed to the Middle East so our internet isn't fast to begin with so I cant be sure why it is running slower. I have since deleted the programs as I have no need for them. How do I tell if there are any of these back door programs and stop them. I am fairly new to the Mac world so I am just learning a lot of how they operate.
Thanks for any guidance on this issue.

Bit-torrent rubbish and limewire are usually used for downloading illegal material and much of the software downloaded is filled with malware
    That is a false statement.
BitTorrent and Limewire can be exploited by malware authors, and there may be illegal content passing over the network, but to say that this is the usual case is a little too much. Your statement implies that by installing the software you immediately become a criminal and your machine gets infested with malware. That is not the case. There is a lot of legitimate traffic on such peer-to-peer networks.
Downloading content via a torrent carries the same risks and responsibilities as downloading content from anywhere else. Consider how much you trust the source before installing/opening anything you download. The main issue, of course, is that you don't know who the source is, and that's the real concern.
    Not true
Bit-torrent is not the same as simply downloading material. It is connecting to a large user-shared internet network, and usually allows other people to access your computer when you are a seed.
And I maintain that most bit-torrent activities are for downloading "shared" files which are usually copyright protected. I have personally checked and verified this. If you believe that being able to download Leopard or Apple products via bit-torrent sites is legal, then we have our differences.
    I reference
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legalissues_withBitTorrent
    and others.
The claim is that the "sharing" is legal because it's user-to-user. So it's OK for someone to "share" the Leopard OS?
I stand by my original statements 100%. I would take the opposite stand, Limewire and bit-torrent "can" be used legally, but for the most part when reality strikes home, they are not. Those who say it's OK to "share" files are either naive or are involved in the "sharing" but in any case, just look at what is being shared and that proves my point.
Naturally, the fact that "sharing" is popular is why much malware is associated with the processes.
This old link is a mere bagatelle of what goes on with file "sharing"
    http://www.neowin.net/news/main/08/05/07/malware-outbreak-blamed-on-file-swapped -mp3s-mpegs
BTW, it's illegal to share copyrighted files no matter what, and it's illegal to own them unless they were legally purchased.

  • I my B570 laptop a door stopper now?

Hi, hopefully somebody will be able to help me.
I bought a used laptop B570 and the Bios is password protected. The last user forgot his password.
I guess it is really 2 questions:
    1) How to reinstall the BIOS without the battery
    2) how to remove/clear the password ( I read somewhere that it was impossible, and only a MB replacement would do the trick )
    Other notes:

  • How do i clear a door open error on my c3180

I had a paper jam and when i removed the paper I have a door open error on my computer

Probably there still some pieces of the paper in there, or the "door" (you might opened it to clear the paper jam) was not closed properly. You get this message, because the sensor is still in open mode.

  • Memory Access Door

    Greetings.
I recently had my Aluminum iMac's graphics card replaced after a graphics issue. However, the on site Apple technician, while putting the iMac back together, explained to me that he was unable to screw in the Memory Access Door. Apparently, there was, somehow, some superglue that leaked onto the black plastic surrounding the surrounding the screw helix. Even though the helix itself was not damaged or blocked, the black plastic was, as the technician said, basically cracked by the supposedly acidic superglue. I'm guessing the glue was put there by another Apple technician (who came to fix the iMac for another issue, months ago), or it came from the original Apple RAM (Just to deter suspicion, I would never apply SUPERGLUE on my own wonderful Macintosh). So now I don't have the door placed, but the iMac still works, contrary to the RAM-addition instructions. My question is: Is this kind of damage covered by AppleCare? Is it a wear and tear issue? A defect? etc.? Thanks in advance.

  • Smart card door locks ?

    Hi
Doe's anybody know about a door lock system using smart cards (or magnetic stripe cards) which may be programmed with java ?
Most vendors only sell their door lock with software, useless in my case is I want to programm the smart card my self via internet using normal card readers.
    Thanks
    Marc

The scenario is, you have a door that requires an authentication. Behind the door is a workstation that is attached to a server/db.
A user scans or inserts their smart card and the firmware in the reader will prompt the user for their authentication. This can be a biometric or a PIN. The authentication is used for the card's access NOT the door. Once the authentication is successful, the proper identification will be retrieved from the card, probably an ID certificate. The workstation will query the server/db with that ID certificate to see if the person is authorized to this area, and unlock the door. ( I've omitted a few steps to simplify the example )
I say this because there's nothing to gain deploying that solution in Java. There's no multiple platform issues, and the companies doing it are so financially strapped, that C/C++ on Windows/DOS is easier and cheaper. Also most of the clients want a cheap solution and are running Windows/DOS as well.
I'm not saying you can't do it in Java, just you won't find many or any clients running the middleware on different platform workstations.

  • Door Bell feature with Callmanager and IP Phones

I know there is got to be some sort of Door Bell device out there on the market which will integrate with Callmanager or Unity.
Currently we have a Nortel PABX and have this door bell device feature called "design 2000" which is just an analog device extension which can either call a group of phones or single phone and from there onwards the phone would want to answer the Door phone then enter 5 * which will send a DTMF tone to this device, which should then open the door. Basically the Door Bell phone device just waits for DTMF tones.
Want to make sure if anyone has ever tried it or has any other ideas on how i can get this feature to work with our solution.
I have a VG248 and ATA188 which i think will do what we want it to do for the analog part of it. Plus the ip phone could dial either certain 2 digits to open the door or have a Softkey, which is labeled DOOR.
    Cheers,
    -Yavuz

    Hi,
    Thanks for your prompt answer.
Our problem is "simple" I can't find a video door that works with Cisco Call Manager 4.1 H323. There are lots of devices that works with SIP...
My question is which equipment you found to work with CallManager... I need in fact with something that works with ATA H323..
Thanks in advance for your cooperation

  • Screen problem making iPad unusable

My iPad2 is 15 month old and has developed a strange screen problem. It seems to have developed a mind of its own, typing ahead with random characters, doing its own thing when scrolling and trying to select in apps. Two days ago Apple support said restore to factory settings which I did. Same problem came back. Yesterday Apple support said the same thing which again I did. Same problem came back Today Apple support say it's a hardware issue out of warranty. We had a polite discussion about EU legislation but to cut a long story short, they basically said "sorry about that, but there is nothing our policies will let us do, you're on your own"
Not exactly the response I hoped for. So I've now got an iPad that is basically useless, unless I want to use it as a door stopper.
My business made a strategic commitmnt to Apple in Mid 2011 and this iPad was part of our shift away from PC/Windows. It's the first time I have needed to deal with Apple Support, and while each of the people I have spoken to have been professional, understanding and helpful, they have been unable / not allowed to assist any further.
Yes, we could have taken out Apple Care Agreements. We chose not to on the basis of 2 year statutory warranty and Apple's reputatiuon for reliability. Seems I made a big mistake here and am left wondering if we made the right decision in going down the Apple route. Our investment in Apple hardware and software is massive for an SME and our workflow depends on iPads.
I'm left with a problem. Thanks Apple.
I'm still a fan but my blinkers have been removed. No longer will you be giveen the benefit of the doubt when you screw up - Maps, WiFi etc - as you have had a direct and negative impact on my business and missed a chance to keep a very happy customer on board.
Does it help to post this? Not really, but it's off my chest.

And you are within your "rights" to post this. But you do realize that we are not Apple employees - correct? We are just other users like yourself. If you feel that you have been treated unjustly, move up the Apple chain of command. Politely demand to speak to the next higher up and go from there.

  • Hard-Drive not Detected load sata drivers

Hi everyone I have a G6-1189sa notebook, I had a faulty harddrive so replaced it with the exact same drive 750GB WD, Thing is I could not save anything from the original drive ? so no recovery partitions are anything I even lost all my family photos and software.
Ok so I done a straight swap over and went ahead installing my fresh Windows 7 x64 disk, then I got an error message saying no device detected please install driver etc etc.
I know I need to install the sata driver for the harddrive to be detected, so I extracted the HP sata control driver to a USB pen the tried to load the driver, with the load driver option on the install disk.
Error message saying driver is not signed !!!!   So after some reading on google I learned I had to disable the naitive sata option in the bios settings for the harddrive to be detected.
Thing is there is not a option for this in my bios ?  unless Im missing something like an advanced bios setting.
I even went to the Intel site and tried some of there drivers but I get the same error message driver not signed.
So my question is ? how can I disable the native sata option if Its possible , If not how can I load the HP sata driver if its not signed.
Its very anyoing someone even said I have to slip the drivers in and make a new home made W7 disk myself to get my pc working again what the hell, where would I start.
Maybe I should put the laptop in the post and send it back, Ive never had so much trouble before making simple memory and harddrive exchanges.
Any advice please people Im at my wits end, my laptop is only a few month old and its now a door stopper lol

    Hi,
Boot into the bios and be sure that the hard drive is detected.
Sata drivers are included in Windows 7.
Return the bios to its default settings and use the HP Recovery Disks.  If you don't have the Recovery Disks then order them from HP. Order HP recovery Disks.

  • GTX850 SLI + CUDA + 3 Monitor

Hello, I need to use 3 monitors and in order to do so I need two NVIDIA cards in SLI, could I use two GTX 580 in SLI by using CUDA for Premiere without having problems? I do know that Mercury requires only one GPU, but I need to find out if I can keep connected the two cards in SLI and use Premiere with MPE.
I am using a Matrox RT.X2, could this use any type of conflicts?
This is my (future) Workstation configuration:
    -Mainboard: ASUS Rampage III Extreme
    -Processor: i7 970
    -RAM: 12Gb 1600
    -Graphic: 2x GTX580 SLI (or ATI HD9670)
    -Power: Enermax 1020
    -Audio: Creative X-Fi Elite Pro
    -Matrox RT.X2
    -HDD: 3x 500Gb
    Software: Win7 64bit - CS5 Premiere, After Effects
This is my current monitor configuration (photo):

You need not install the Matrox and it will save you from many headaches, driver issues and you can use the Matrox for what it was designed for, a fantastic door-stopper. I have used my old RT.X100 for that very purpose for years. Did the person on the Matrox forum mention whether he was on 5.03 or on 5.5.1?
You need not install the Sound Blaster card since you have on-board sound and it will avoid using their bloated software with all their inherent issues, keeping your system cleaner and meaner.
For a 3 or 4 monitor solution, all you need is two video cards that use the same driver, but not connected with SLI. The altenative is BM, but they also have their driver problems with CS5.5.
It is a pity you can't get your money back from Matrox and use that to upgrade memory to 24 GB and add a couple of disks to your setup. That would increase performance noticeably. With your two intended 580 cards and the 970, your PSU Enermax 1020 may be a bit weak in output. Check eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Pro v2.5  and get the Pro version, then set your CPU load to 100% and capacitor ageing to 30% and add 10 - 15% to the calculated wattage to be safe. Then carefully check the amperage on each rail, because in my experience Enermax may give a total wattage that seems enough, but not on the individual rails.

  • My ipad will not even come on after trying to upadate

I tried to update my ipad, and now I cannot get it to stop showing the apple and the spinning in the middle of the ipad. It will not show up on any of my macs. I have updated all the itunes, but cannot even get it to start so I can install my back up. It is spinning in time, tried running the batter down and recharging, I have tried everything, it is totally crashed, does not even come up with the screen that says connect to itunes. Just the apple, sometimes a bar tries to go across, and then the thing spins in the center of the ipad. It is an ipad 1, very disappointed, as it is a pretty expensive door stopper now.

  • PANTECH UML290 problem

    Hi,
Having trouble installing my pantech UML290 4g aircard.  after installing the access manager, i plug in the usb card and receive an error saying that windows was unable to instal the RMNET service driver.  When i try to connect to the device in the access manager i get error "WMC100".  I am running windows vista, I read someone had a similar problem but no solution was posted.  Can someon help me out with this?
    Thanks,
    John

Alas, i was working fine on my uml290 through my cisco vpn connection too until i recently updated to the new firmware release of  L0290VWB333F.230 and now i can still connect through vpn fine but cannot open several microsoft applications, IM communicator and Outlook client.
The problem is with firmware version L0290VWB333F.230 because that's when the applications on the vpn side stopped functioning and won't open saying they can't connect to their local server. However, the local internet works fine with L0290VWB333F.230 but not through the cisco vpn anymore.
my vpn connection works fine through wireless and also ethernet connection which confirms its the firmware. there is no usb security filter on this my work laptop, open policy. i'm glad i have the other connectivity's as backup so i can work for now.
i have done a aircard trial with both the sprint and t-mobile aircard, the sprint signal was weak and the t-mobile only got 3g on their 4g rocket model and i was enjoying 4g on the pantech. But if the next firmware update from Verizon does not fix this vpn connectivity problem then i will gladly break out of my verizon contract to go with t-mobile since my livelihood is through vpn is the only reason i got it for. And i know the vpn worked fine through t-mobile.
I wonder if its being communicated up the chain, as more upgrade's occur there has to be more complaints coming...hope it get's addressed cause it's been unplugged for a week now and doesn't even make a good door stopper or a paper weight even though i'll pay my bill for it on time, until the patience wears out.

  • HT200161 Problem activating FTP and a few thoughts on FM 7 server

    My current problem...
    The document Ricoh points to

I suspect I'm missing a parameter or something but the document is of no help there.

    To the Host
Thank you for verifying what I had suspected for some time.
I do now understand why so many professionals chuckle quietly when Apple server products are mentioned.
I just spent around USD 5000 on server products from Apple only to realize that they have been cripled to a degree of being almost useless. Not to mention the tens of thousands of USD I have spent in the past
Problem is the mini is a bit to light to serve as a door stopper.
    Kind regards

  • Mercury Transmit IO

While watching the Spanish Grand Prix I just thought about raising the issue about 3rd party IO cards for Premiere Pro CS6 as they are now fully supported.
In April 2010 I purchased a Matrox RT X2 card and two weeks down the line CS5 was launched. I tried unsuccessfully to RMA the card. However I  ended up using the RT X2 and the drivers for CS5 did not come until after 6 months. This was a very long wait and had to wait  to upgrade to CS5.
Following the CS6 launch Matrox will not be supporting RT X2 users or Axio. Having spend a phenomenal price on this product I find it really insulting and gives me a second thought on buying their products again. I have been in the business for 5 years and  since using the RT X2 I was able to offer my clients a preview monitor via the analogue. I was also able to do multicamera editing of he 4 cameras on my dv monitor, and had the ability to see the focused and unfocused shots.
But my major question to those who have been in the trade for such a long time, is it really worth investing in these components, Matrox, Aja or Blackmagic, when there is a posibility that you may end up with the component as a DOOR stopper, like Harm said? Whish is the best card to go for?

Every computer thing we buy now will be a door stopper eventually.  The trick is to get value for your investment before that day arrives, and to go with a company that wants you as a customer for life.
IMO, if you live in North America, AJA is the way to go.  Their products and support are excellent.  I hear negative stories about support for Matrox and BMD, but you might be able to find some for AJA as well.  Since Bluefish is Australian, they don't have as much of a market in North America, but I hear good things about them.  Being in Texas, I'm wary of a company so far away without a significant VAR presence.  AJA can overnight ship me a replacement, if needed.  And there are numerous VARs in the USA who keep the entire AJA product line in stock.  So, you can infer that minimal downtime is an important issue for me.
Since I do video as a business, I've learned to not let price be a significant factor in buying decisions.  Reliability and support are critical.

    Hi all
We have a small "granny flat" in our back yard that we would like to have internet access to.
Instead of running an ugly Cat 6 cable out the window, could a Apple Extreme signal reach that far away with the base station located in the house? Or would I need something different like http://meraki.com/products or something else?
