Do i have a virus? help much appreciated

i was browsing on firefox on my macbookpro 15 inch and suddenly a new window opened itself saying "you have a trojan, high risk" etc and then offered me a file to download with anti virus software on it, OBVIOUSLY this was a virus, unfortunately i was foolish enough in my panicked state to download it, thankfully i didnt install it and deleted it immediatly after realising what i had done. Am i fine because i didn't install it or should i be worried?
Many thanks for any response, Harrison

Those are just designed to get PC users scared into buying their software, it's not a virus it's just fear mongering. I'd guess what you downloaded wasn't a Mac programme anyway but as you didn't run it no harms been done.

    Hi Jake,
Is it connecting to the Router or Modem?
Is the new Router using maybe WPA2 encryption? If so, G4s can only do WPA or less.

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>Airport>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222

Thanks for your help. that's not working either! ugh!!
I can open hotmail, but it's not formatting right, i can't open emails, nor send them.
Thank you so much for trying to help. I really appreciate it.
I understand that you can't get a virus by opening an email, but it seems way too circumstancial! This is my third mac -- because unlike PC -- I never had a problem. I understand this problem is not with my macbook, because every other website works fine -- it's hotmail!

You may not have the iPod's Music tab set up in iTunes, which is how you tell iTunes how to automatically sync your iPod.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.
To use automatic syncing, the checkbox for Sync Music is checked.  Below that, you can choose to sync Entire music library, if it fits.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Select playlists, artists, albums, and genres.
With the latter choice, you can create a selection of songs to sync to the iPod by selecting (checkmarking) playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres on the Music tab.  For example, you can make a playlist in iTunes with all the songs you want on the iPod.  That new album needs to be on that playlist, if you want those songs synced to the iPod.  On the Music tab, checkmark that playlist.
When you Apply the change, your selection of songs sync to the iPod (replacing its existing content). Going forward, any changes in the iTunes Music library that are related to your selection of songs on the Music tab sync automatically to the iPod when you connect it, or when you click Sync.
Therefore, if you create a playlist with songs you want on the iPod, and select it on the iPod's Music tab, you can simply update that playlist in iTunes (add and remove songs), and those changes sync to the iPod automatically at the next opportunity.

i can't update my flash player and i might have a virus help me out with any advice on getting my mac on track ?

You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • I've checked through all posts and still have no answers; help much needed

    Hello,
I have a 30GB 5th Generation iPod and over the past few weeks I've encountered many problems, some of which have been fixed, others, which haven't. Tonight, more have come up.
    1) I have read that many iPods here have had their videos and songs wiped out, yet nobody has really answered to why, can anybody tell me?
    2) I have tried to complete the 5Rs to restore my iPod tonight but have failed. I did come across this article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499, but my iPod is on my G: Drive, so I shouldn't be having this problem. My Updater (newly downloaded) keeps saying "iPod can't be mounted". What's going on?
    3) All my songs that I've tried to update from my iTunes onto my iPod have come out grey with exclamation marks next to the file (displayed under iPod in iTunes) and I have referred to this discussion:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=529129&tstart=0, which wasn't much help either. So then I manually added on the playlist which I wanted and then the message "Attempting to copy to the disk <iPod name> failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." came up (by this point I think I was ready to hurl my iPod a the wall). What on earth?! This time, I referred to these two discussions:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=594189&tstart=150
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=564754&tstart=45
AND AGAIN I HAVE HAD NO LUCK.
    4) So then, I have unplugged, plugged, switched and mangled this bloody thing and have noticed one thing. When my iPod registers onto the computer, it's only for a split second and then it goes BAM straight to charging and disappears on My Computer. It also greys out on my iTunes but I managed to bring it back to life by clicking 'Update' but you know, that wouldn't work because the **** thing is not updating!
There's probably more but I'll spare you all for now. I'm quite proud of myself for not using any explicit words thus far. Oh and it's not my computer's problem. I shouldn't think it is, I only just got my computer reformatted, tested it on two other PCs and a laptop in the house and THE SAME THING STILL HAPPENS!
I'm seriously desperate for any help I can get. It will be much appreciated. Meanwhile, have a good day/night and thanks for putting up with me.
    Regards,
    - S

  • IP Configuration - IP in use? Any help much appreciated!

    Hi all,
I have a slight problem with a new Time Capsule.
    The set up:
    *TC 500gb*
    *ADSL modem (D Link)*
    *MacBook Air*
    *HP Printer/Scanner/Copier 3210*
    *iPod touch*
The Printer is connected via ethernet to the Time Capsule.
Both the MacBook Air and the iPod touch connect via WiFi.
The modem connects to the internet port on the Time Capsule.
I receive an error message every time I power on the printer, or turn WiFi on the iPod touch.
    The message is:
    *IP Configuration*
*62.249.169.50 is in use by 00:1d:4f:11:6f:d3, DHCP Server 192.168.1.1*
That last part, 192.168.1.1 happens to be the address I have to type to access the D Link modem's config page via the web browser.
Within this page, I have the following option:
The device can be setup as a DHCP Server to distribute IP addresses to the LAN network.
    There are two choices:
    *No DHCP*
Choose this option. The IP address must be manually assigned at each device connected to DSL-320T.
    *DHCP Server*
Choose this option to setup as a DHCP server to distribute IP addresses to the LAN network.
Currently, the second option is selected.
    Beneath this, is the following:
    *DHCP Server*
    Starting IP Address: 192.168.1.2
    Ending IP Address: 192.168.1.254
    Lease Time 60 seconds
The starting and ending IP, and the lease time, can all be changed.
If I don't power on the printer or turn on the iPod's WiFi, everything works ok.
However, with the message appearing, I can't use the printer or web on the iPod.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm guessing I need to change an IP address, or something...
Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks in advance,
    -Chris

Hello iPhone. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Since both of your AirPorts are 802.11n models, I suggest that you use the "extend" network feature available to these models versus using a WDS.
Here is the basic setup steps to extend the AirPorts.
o If practical, place the base stations in near proximity to each other during the setup phase. Once done, move them to their desired locations.
o Open AirPort Utility and select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
o Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
o Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
o Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
o Enter the base station network and base station password is necessary.
o Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.

  • HT1414 My search states that I have a virus, help

My I -pad states that I have a virus in safari ,I cannot use search,, help

Your search is wrong, unless you have jailbroken your iPad - I'm not aware of any viruses for iOS devices.
Clear Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History
If that doesn't clear the message then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • HT1212 I have forgotten my restrictions passcode on my iphone. How can I override/ get past this problem & get safari back? Any help much appreciated!!

    Hi there!
I've forgotten the restrictions passcode that I set up. I've failed on 5 attempts. What can I do to get rid of it and access safari again?! I've restored original settings (which happily updated my software), but then restored the last phone back up which I made & so, of course, still have restrictions set as on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

To remove the Restrictions passcode you will need to Restore the Device as New...
You will not be able to perform a backup as this would include the Restrictions passcode... which is what you have to remove...
