Do I have internet on my Palm Centro?

I don't know if I do. People have told me that when you get a Smartphone, you automatically have to pay for the data plan too. I'm not sure about this, because I have had no additional charges since switching. Is this true though?
However, my aunt, the one who pays the bills, has internet on her Blackberry. Does this internet apply to all phones on the plan or just hers?
So I basically just asked like 5 questions. Please help!

  • How to set "from" field in Versamail 4.0.1 EAS / Palm Centro Verizon

I have set up a Palm Centro to sync via Activesync using Versamail 4.01.00. All seems to be working normally but there doesn't seem to be a place to set the senders proper first and last name as the sender. When I send an outbound message the recipient receives the message from login "username" instead of "Firstname Lastname". Anyone know where to change this?

  • Verizon Palm Centro ringtone issues

I have A Verizon Wireless Palm Centro and I have some songs on Ptunes I want to use as ringtones. I'm not getting a card anytime soon so can someone just please find a FREE software for me that will turn the songs either on my computer to MIDI files or whaterever will work with my phone. thnx!
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Songs can easily "DL" right to your phone from your computer.  It's all explained clearly in the User Guide that ships with every device (on the Installation Disk in pdf format), and is also available online at Palm.com.:
First Open Pocket Tunes on your phone, then Windows Media Player.  When both programs are up and running, plug in your HotSync cable, but do not press the button to Hotsync!
    Windows: Open Windows Media
Player on your computer. On the Sync
tab, select Set Up Sync. Select Finish.
In the Sync tab, select the files and
playlists you want to sync manually.
Select Start Sync. The files are
    transferred to your smartphone.
This will send the whole library to your card.  There is an option to "Not Sync Automatically" that will then just open the library window in Windows Media Player on the right pane.  You can then drag and drop any songs you want on the card into this window.  When the songs are in the window that you want, then press the "Start Sync" button below the list in Windows Media Player.

  • Centro 5 (garnet) and new iMac OS 10.5.6 Can I use my Mac as an internet connection for Palm?

I have a Palm Centro through Sprint.  I have cable internet via SBC Global (ATT).  I also have a wireless internet network in my home.  I run a Mac with OS 10.5.6.  I would like to be able to get to the internet on my palm via the bluetooth in my Mac, or I'd even like to get to the internet on my palm via the Mac by connecting to it via USB.
Obviously, I'm clueless.  I've spent many hours researching this and it seems most people are trying to  use their phone as a modem, but I don't think that's what I want to do since both my Mac and my Centro have bluetooth capability.  I do not want to get a $25 data plan through sprint when I am only accessing while inside my home where my internet capability already is.  I'm not trying to use my phone for internet access.  So, I'm not looking for "Wi-Fi" per se.  Mostly I want to be able to download applications directly to my phone instead of needing to download first to my mac, then install to my phone. Also, I'd like to access my googlemaps page from home.
My husband has a brand new itouch ipod which he was able to EASILY access our wireless internet through his laptop PC.  Meanwhile, I'm running in circles.  I can't figure out why a smart phone would prevent me from accessing my wireless internet.
    Help....Please?

What has a card got to do with accessing the net from your phone?  Remove it, and see if the error goes away.  You do have a Data account with your provider, correct?
Certainly you aren't trying to use a Wifi card in a PalmOS Centro, right?    As mentioned above, if there are no Palm drivers, none will work.

  • Nubie with Tungsten E2 with Mac sync, now have Palm Centro... can I sync both?

I have been using a Tungsten E2 for about 12 months, and now have a Palm Centro phone.  I need to use both, and don't know what I should do about loading both disks on my Mac OS X 10.4.11 and if I can sync both.  Any thoughts?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2
Message Edited by FranAnne1 on 01-26-2010 07:32 PM

You can sync both, but it is recommended that you have two different usernames for both devices. If the Centro is to become the main device you can sync the device to the same username of the E2. But the E2 then should be hard reset and synced with a different username.
Reason this is, is so the devices and programs that run do not have problems in the future. If you have two different devices with the same username you can risk corrupted data, programs, and OS.
If you have any questions please post back.

  • Does the Palm Centro have an equalizer or bass boost?

Plus, is it possible to download an MP3 track I have in computer to the Centro for a ringtone?

I keep getting conflicting opinions as to downloading for ringtones. Please inform.
    I sure would appreciate it.

Pocket-Tunes comes with the Centro, and I'm fairly certain that the version it ships with has an equalizer.
As to your second question, this thread has links to Palm support articles about using mp3 files for ringtones.  The short answer is yes, the file must be located on a Secure Digital card.  Then you use the Web browser to access the file and convert to a ringtone:

You are asking a LOT of Basic Questions that can be answered by reading the User Guide that is included with every Palm on the installation disk.
It can also be read by going to Palm.com and the suport page for your device.
You add programs with Palm Desktop and the Hotsync application.
Ad-hoc refers to Wifi.  Not possible.
    Wifi: not possible.

  • Vista won't recognize Palm Centro hardware

I have downloaded from the internet as well as from my Centro Smartphone (Verizon) disk the required software, and when I come to the step to plug in the phone to the computer, all I get is device drivers not found.  I have had it do a search for the drivers to no avail.  This phone's drivers had no problem with my XP computer.  Any ideas??

    View Solution.

A couple months ago, I bookmarked this page:
    http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=windows_hotsync&thread.id=17980
I NEED the information on it regarding what to do about syncing via bluetooth for a Palm Centro. I now regret not printing it when the post was visible, but now I get a "message not found" error.
I thought that page had step by step how-to for syncing with bluetooth to the Centro.  Since I have Vista 64-bit, I know that's what I need to do.
Any ideas what happened to that post? Was it moved? To where? I've been browsing the board for an hour now and getting really frustrated.  Thanks.

  • Palm Centro cloned...

    I have a Palm Centro
Last Wednesday the 14th Verizon called me to tell me not to freak out when I opened my $50,000.00 phone bill.  I had to laugh.  I had no idea how to rack up those kind of charges.
Apparently, since I have no 'data package' on my plan, I am being charged .15/min for internet usage.  ...only I don't use the internet from my phone, nor do I use the phone to connect my computer to the internet!
While I am on the phone (at work) with Verizon, they are telling me that it is accruing time as we speak.  It is not - it is sitting on the counter right in front of me!
I'm pretty sure that my centro has been cloned, even though Verizon has assured me that it hasn't been.
    Any ideas out there?

Did you remove the battery and ask them whether it was still communicating? Can they give you information about the web sites or email servers they claim your Centro is contacting?

  • Palm Centro substitute?

I knew when I got it a year or so ago that the Palm PDA phone was not popular. But no Palm at all, I would have never guessed. I've been seith Verizon for years and probably won't change. Which device will measure up to my Palm Centro? There was a leaning curve from other PDA pones but since I've used Palm T/x pda it was very similar.
Anyone have an idea what to get with Verizon when my 2 years are up?
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

    In response to:
I should add that I mainly use my Centro for calendar with lots of recurring events, sometimes back and forward many years, contacts (have abouit 2500 currently) with sometimes detailed notes attached, like hours of business, SMS texting, phoning, don't do internet things: I have an iPad for that.  I like the combination of hard keyboard and touch screen.
I will really welcome ideas here.
    OlsonCnA
I use my phone in a very similar capacity.  My contacts and their detailed notes are very important.  I also love having the hard keyboard and touch screen.  And nothing beats the search capabilities of this phone.  It's very frustrating that the other manufacturers don't offer similar flexibility!
And to think how long ago this was available, it makes one realize just how brilliant the Palm engineers were.  WAY before their time.  Why haven't they turned up at another manufacturer?  I'm anxious to hear some options.

  • How to charge your Palm Centro via 64-bit Windows, with a USB cable

Here is a way to recharge your Palm Centro on your 64-bit Windows computer, through a USB cable.  But first, a few brief explanatory notes...
Note 1:  I have successfully used this method to charge my Palm Centro from my 64-bit Windows 7 computer.  This method probably works for other Palm devices and other 64-bit Windows versions (XP and Vist)...  but I haven't tested this on any other configurations.  Others may feel free to post their successes or failures with their setups.
Note 2:  This method will NOT allow you to HotSync your Palm to the computer via USB.  All it does is let you charge your Palm via USB.  If you need to HotSync your Palm, and you have 64-bit Windows, you have to use Bluetooth or some other method.  To learn how to use Bluetooth to sync, search for "bluetooth sync 64-bit" or something like that on this forum.
Note 3:  If you're wondering why someone would need to use this method - why not just plug the phone into a wall outlet, right? - it's because the Centro's charging jack can get messed up.  Mine has not worked properly for the last several months
Note 4:  I will not be posting any follow-ups to this message.  This is my first (and only) post here...  I'm posting here because I am very grateful to this forum: It is here that I learned how (and why) to sync my Centro to my computer via Bluetooth, because Palm doesn't support 64-bit Windows. This is my way of saying "thank you"!  I'm not trying to be harsh by not following up...  it's just that I won't be checking this thread, and I don't want anyone to have bad feelings if they ask questions and I don't respond.  I'll be as thorough as I can in this one posting, though.
Note 5:  I cannot claim credit for actually discovering this solution.  I found it after HOURS of looking online... it was on some obscure website.  Unfortunately, I can't remember where I found the original solution, so I can't credit the discoverer here.  However, I have done my best to provide much more detailed instructions here.
Note 6:  Lastly, Palm should support 64-bit Windows.  Period.  Some of you may say, "It's not Palm's fault - the company that makes the Palm OS is Access, and it's Access's fault for not supporting 64-bit Windows."  Well, this may be true, but Access has stated that Palm has not requested a 64-bit driver.  (In fact, you can call Access and ask them directly.)  And if Palm doesn't ask (and pay) for it, Access sure isn't going to create one on its own.  I used to LOVE Palm devices...  I've used Palms for 12 years now, and for most of that time, I heartily recommended Palms to all my friends.  But, between this problem and the other problems I've had with my current Centro and my previous Treo, I'm done with Palm.  No more for me.
OK, here's how to charge your Palm (finally!)
    1)  If you haven't done so already, install the latest version of Palm Desktop / HotSync on your computer.  You can get this at palm.com, under the "support" section.  (Actually, I'm not sure if this is necessary, but I already had done this.)
    2)  As you're installing the software on your computer, toward the end of the process, do not actually sync your Palm to your computer.  Just cancel or whatever you have to do to avoid that step.  (Remember, the whole point here is that Palm does not have a driver compatible with 64-bit Windows, so you won't be able to sync via USB.)
    3)  If you don't already have it, get the PocketTunes application (also known as "pTunes") on your Palm device.  If you have to install the software, you may need to do so wirelessly or via a 32-bit Windows computer (because, again, Palm doesn't support 64-bit Windows).
    4)  Connect the Palm USB cable to your computer.  If you are using a desktop, plug into the USB ports on the BACK of your computer.  These ports are directly powered, whereas the ports on the front of your desktop may not be.  You'll want as much juice as possible to charge your Palm.
    5)  Connect the Palm USB cable to your Palm.
    6)  Turn on the Palm device, and open the PocketTunes application on your Palm.
    7)  PocketTunes will try to connect to Windows Media Player (on your desktop).  Tell your desktop to connect to Windows Media Player.  (You can save time by telling your desktop to do this automatically.)  When PocketTunes connects with Windows Media Player, you'll have a power connection via USB.
    8)  PocketTunes will eventually show that it is "Idle" on the Palm.
    9)  To confirm whether the Palm is charging, look for the charging light (on the Centro, it's on the upper left) to turn solid red.  You can also hit the home button on the Palm to see the battery / charging status.  To get the charging working, you may have to exit PocketTunes and come back into it a few times before the charging light comes on.  I have no idea why you have to do this; I just know what I wind up doing sometimes.  You don't have to unplug and replug the phone from the USB cable, or turn the phone off and on.  Just leave PocketTunes and come back to PocketTunes.
    10)  If you exit the PocketTunes application on the Palm, the Palm will still charge - but you'll get the constant and annoying "no driver" noise from Windows.  To avoid that sound, just keep the Palm on PocketTunes while you have the Palm plugged into the USB cable.
    11)  You can close Windows Media Player on the desktop once you have the Palm charging.
    12)  Once you have this set up properly, you can speed up the process by setting the HotSync cable button to PocketTunes - after all, that button no longer needs to be set up to HotSync via USB cable.
When you have everything set up, here's what you would be doing on a regular basis:
-- Plug USB cable (which is already plugged into your computer) into Palm
-- Hit HotSync button on cable --> This starts PocketTunes --> PocketTunes automatically opens Windows Media Player on the computer
-- See if charging light turns solid red --> If not, exit PocketTunes, then hit HotSync button on cable to start PocketTunes again
-- Repeat until charging light turns solid red (success!)
-- Once the Palm is charging, close Windows Media Player on desktop
Best of luck to all who need this!

Why do you want to create your own driver instead of what comes with the device? If you go that route, you need all of the low level USB RAW protocol from the vendor. Did you get that? Yoe are wasting your time if you don't have that. Is the driver from the vendor documented? If it's a USB connection, how does that connection show up in windows device manager?
