Do I have some "weird programs" on my activity monitor?

A computer technician came to my place to fix my friend's computer (PC), and he needed a working computer to download some drivers. So I let him use my iMac (under my surveillance). Then he opened the activity monitor to examine "what kind of things are running hidden in the background." After examining all the processes in a couple of minutes, he said that there are some "weird programs" slowing down my mac and "causing crashes." He said that my Mac needs a defragmenting to "zap all the confused processes." He then tried to charge me $100 for the task, saying Apple stores will charge me even more. Do I really need to perform this? Here are the screenshots of my activity monitor:

Well, again, I don't know about everything that is showing, but I can tell you for certain the the ones labeled "Photo Stream" and "Notification Center" are not....
I think you have been buffaloed....do not let this person near your Mac again....are you running a Windows partition on your Mac? If not, then everything he is telling you is unmitigated bull...
Defragging, Viruses....these are Windoze terms and issues...not Macs.
And BTW - he is going to charge you $100 to mess up your Mac, but he says Apple Stores are going to charge even more? NOT - Apple Stores do not do repairs. For any price.

A Windows app needs Windows. An OS X app needs OS X.
You can install and run Windows and Windows apps natively on an Intel Mac.

Can not find my Program in Lion Activity Monitor until reboot again

I have tried to installed the datacard driver and user interface program in Lion and reboot; however, the resident program to detect the device of datacard does not exist in Activity Monitor. I need to reboot again, then I can find it exits in Activity Monitor of Lion. This issue does not happen in Mac Snow/Snow Leopard(32-bit/64-bit). I use the Metapackage or terminal command line to install and both need to reboot one more time. My script is
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/loginwindow AutoLaunchedApplicationDictionary -array-add '{"Path" = "/opt/data/Monitor.app";"Hide" = "0";}'
Is it a side effect of finder known issue in Lion ? Or I need to use another way like "Launch Daemon" or "Launch Agent" to do?

Weird Slow Perf. - Activity Monitor - Dock Problem

I have a Powerbook G4 that's been running insanely slow. I went through the troubleshooting steps to fix this, and opened the Activity Monitor to see what's been sucking up all the processing power on the CPU. To my surprise, the Dock application is using 60 to 80% of my CPU at any given time. I know Mac doesn't get viruses, but... is this a virus?

Not in my experience. However, if the Dock is showing a lot of activity, then I suspect that you're running widgets. Click on the Dashboard icon and turn them off (easiest way is to open the Activity Monitor, select the Dock, and quit it).

You might want to make a full clone backup of your boot drive before you start disabling processes unless you know what software those processes support since you may break software you need. For example, Creative Cloud is Adobe software; do you use any Adobe software which might depend on Creative Cloud running?

Have to force quit mail from activity monitor + Mail is ALWAYS syncing

Hi, i am currently having a big problem with Mail, i have to force quit from activity monitor, it will not quit from the file menu, and in the activity window in mail it is always syncing. I have deleted all my mail accounts, (various gmail IMAP accounts) and mobileme account, turned off mobileme syncing, unregistered my lap top and reset sync data. Each time i open mail, the mobile me account returns and starts syncing, in activity monitor it shows it using large amounts of memory too. When i open mail in another user account (without mobileme) it seems to work fine. I have deleted preferences, repaired permissions, check the disk, disk clean up, everything i can think of......... Please HELP

I have some adobe programs of version cs3. Is it possible to upgrade to a newer version? Possibly cs5 or newer?

There are some essential features I need for my work that I aren't available in cs3, so I was wondering whether it is possible to upgrade this version to cs5 or 6, or to CC. If this is possible, is it a free upgrade or can I pay a lump sum of money for an upgraded new version. I am definitely not prepared to pay a huge amount of money for a new version when I have already paid for cs3. Can anyone help me out?

No you cannot upgrade from CS3 (too old).
You can still buy CS6 (full version) Creative Suite 6 or rent CC.

The link MetropolisHotSeatContest_Rules_Regs_092911.docx is a docx document (looks like a ZIP archive) that needs to be opened by Word or another program that can handle it. The file is send as text/plain and that causes Firefox to open it as a text file in a tab. You need to right-click the link to that file and use "Save Link as" or hold down Alt and left-click the link to initiate a download dialog.

Hello I am getting some nasty popups on safari. looks like malware. virtually all menus on safari are frozen out. Search with firefox and followed some directions to use the activity monitor to force quit these processes and it was no use.

The problem wasn't in quitting safari but everyone time I opened it, that crap would pop up. Should I be able to use it now without holding down shift?

I know you can't help with my Yahoo problem, however, apparently at some time in the past I have went to the Sync and tried to figure it out on both my laptop and my desktop, because I have the long snyc key information. However, when I go to try to sync both computers I never get the box to enter that key on either one. That is my problem. So should I try and get a new sync key and see if that works.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.

Security updates are essential on any and all software, specially your browser. Mozilla is working to streamline the updating process as much as possible, but you shouldn't neglect your own security for a few seconds of "wasted" time.
