Do I have to buy a data plan? please read desc.

I would like to purchase a iphone 4 (maybe 5) but i would ONLY like to continue with my plan with talk and text. I would NOT like to purchase a data plan for this phone.
I would like the phone for its other uses including apps and music and such. But NOT the web features unless i use wifi. I do not want to pay for a data plan if im not going to even use it...
Is there a "pay as you go" plan for the iphone so i only have to pay the 30 bucks IF I use the web and or download something via web outside of wifi capabilities?

AT&T will most definitely require a data plan for an iPhone used on its network.
For T-Mobile you wouldn't have to have a data plan, since you would be bringing your own phone.  T-Mobile does not have an iPhone for its network.  If they do get one in the near future, you would have to buy the phone full price in order to not have the data plan.
I am pretty sure I heard somewhere that AT&T offered smartphones without data plans, I have heard many complaints about Verizon not selling smartphones without a data plan, and I am pretty sure they said something like that they were able to do so on AT&T/T-Mobile, so why not Verizon?
I don't see T-Mobile getting the iPhone, and if they do, it will still technically be the AT&T iPhone, AT&T bought out T-Mobile (US) from Deutsche Telekom in Germany, so AT&T technically owns (or will own) T-Mobile, I am not sure if AT&T plans on keeping the T-Mobile name though
Nope, AT&T requires a data plan of atleast $15 a month for all smartphones.

Just like Verizon's site, if you read the fine print under each smartphone picture, it says this.
T-Mobile also requires a data plan for smartphones.

I didn't know about that, though that only seems to apply if you buy the phone at the 2yr contract price, therefore if you buy the phone at retail price, or bring in an unlocked phone, a SIM without a data plan could be used in a smartphone and the smartphone should work without a data plan
With Verizon on the other hand, being a CDMA network and no CDMA phone can be "unlocked" and doesn't use SIM cards, even if someone did bring in their own CDMA smartphone (flashed for Verizon of course) or bought their smartphone at retail price, they would still need a data plan, wouldn't they?

  • Do you have to get a data plan on the iPhone 4

I want to buy an iPhone 4 but i dont want to pay $50.00 a month for a bill. If I buy the iPhone 4 on Virgin Mobile with the super tab do you have to get a data plan or can you get a normal plan for talk and text???

    Very likely, yes.
    Call Virgin and ask.

  • HT4623 I want to purchase a ipad 32gb in the larger size but have read many bad reviews that the wifi does not stay connected and I don't want to have to buy another data package as I already own an iphone that i pay data for, what are my concerns

I want to purchase an ipad 32gb in the larger size buy have read many bad reviews that they have problems staying connected to wifi.  I don't want to have to buy a data package so I only want the wifi one.  I already pay apple for my iphone data and I can't afford more money.  Why are there so many bad reviews and are the newer ones that much better, according to many reviews they are not. Please help

I already pay apple for my iphone data
You pay your carrier for data, not Apple.
Why are there so many bad reviews
Where? Regardless, there are always going to be a handful of people having some sort of issue with any given device, but I would not therefore assume that you would be one of them.

  • I currently have the 2 gig data plan for $50, plus a free 1 gig promotional attachment but Verizon is currently offering the 3 gig data plan for $50, but if I upgrade will I lose the free 1 gig promotion I currently have attached to my account?

I currently have the 2 gig data plan for $50, plus a free 1 gig promotional attachment but Verizon is currently offering the 3 gig data plan for $50, but if I upgrade will I lose the free 1 gig promotion I currently have attached to my account?
I understand I will still be getting 3 gigs of data for the $50, I would just like to continue to have the free 1 gig promotion I was already getting, if you Verizon was willing to do it before then why can't they continue to do it now?

Like Ann154 said, changing plans often results in the loss of any promos you may have.  In your case, it makes no difference to the price you will pay - you'll have 3 GB for $50.  Whether you have 1GB free, or a better price on the 3GB plan is a wash.  I'd leave things alone....

  • Why do I have to sacrifice my data plan?

I ha ve been with verizon for almost 7 years. I chose the unlimited data plan about 5 years ago,and now I need an upgrade, but I don't want to lose my unlimited. I was grandfathered in when they started changing it,and I don't think it's fair that in order to get a good deal,I have to get screwed out of data. Makes a person want to go back to pre-paid or another company. Funny how if we break our contract,we lose our service, but verizon can break theirs and its all good.

Your unlimited data is not part of your contract. Even if it were a new contract would negate it.
You can keep unlimited data two ways (three ways if you keep your old device or just throw another device on the line as a replacement) first pay full price for your device. You keep unlimited. Secondly use the verizon device payment plan in which the total cost is spread out over months. (Twelve I believe) Don't opt for the Edge program or you will lose unlimited data.
Those are your options. Choose wisely and carefully.
    Good Luck

  • What does it mean when data "no sim" on Ipad. I have a paid monthly data plan?

Top of I pad1 says "no sim" and can not get 3G service. I pay a monthly data plan. Whats wrong?

Assuming the SIM is ok often ejecting the SIM and pushing back in can fix this.
If you have a dry cloth give the metal contacts of the SIM a wipe.
If still nothing confirm that the SIM is still working by placing it into another device.
Recently I had a SIM die on me, it was 7 years old.

  • Can I use my iPhone without buying a data plan?

Will the iPhone work without using a data plan?
I already have an iPad, which I prefer to use.

We use AT&T.  There is a data plan included in their basic rate but it is about 200MB/month if I recall correctly, so it isn't very much.  For serious data plan users you need to pay for an upgrade on that component (2GB/month or unlimited).  So you get a small amount as part of the basic package but it is really designed that you pay for an upgrade if you're going to really use the iPhone with data.  Nothing is "free" but you could consider the 200MB as the free data you get with the basic package.  You may find that there are times you would want to use it as iPads are not always the most convenient things to carry around (reminds me of when we were on holiday recently in a national park and people were holding up iPads trying to take photos in 30mph winds).

  • I jus bought the iPhone 4 thru sprint how long will I have to buy the care plan

I just recently bought an iPhone 4 thru sprint I was wondering how many days I have to buy an apple care plan

30 days from time of purchase of the iPhone. And you will have to take your iPhone to an Apple Store to have them verify its condition:

  • IPhone 3GS - Can I use existing US t-mobile SIM and German O2 SIM cards (for phone calls) without buying a data plan?

I currently use 2 phones to make calls: one t-mobile locked phone for the US and one O2 locked phone for Germany, both without data plan.
Can I upgrade using just one phone (factory unlocked iPhone 3GS)  and continue to use the existing SIM cards for phone calls (just switching the SIM cards when necessary), but use free WIFI spots worldwide for internet access/data transfer?
    Thanks Michael

No supported carrier, including T-Mobile in the U.S., permits the use of an iPhone without a data plan. Though it's technically possible to do it, if and when they find you, they will either charge you for a data plan or shut down your account.

  • Since the update, my IPad2 says "No Service" in the upper left hand corner although I have service and my data plan is paid.

Why does "No Service" appear in the upper left hand corner since I updated?

    Hello oeaton,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Do I have to buy a miniDV camera to read in miniDVD tape footage?

I have a miniDV tape a client gave me to capture video footage from and edit in Final Cut Express.
Does a simple miniDV playback device exist that can output Firewire to FCE?
Otherwise I think I have to go spend $280 on the least expensive camcorder I can find.
    Thanks,
    DAN

An inexpensive camcorder is going to be the least expensive option. Watch out to make sure the footage in is 16-bit/48kHz for the audio and pray they didn't record in the LP mode!

  • How to get the selected item of a ListBox if it's contents are binded data? (Please read)

So, I am making an application in which binds data from a WebClient to a ListBox. Thus, it is needed to understand that I did not create this data, it is from a Web API. So my goal is to be able to click on any of the items in the list box(which are binded
from a web API) and open a pop-up to display more data binded from that specific area.
    Example:
The data has been loaded and I click on the 2nd item, well this item is a Metallica concert located in Russia blah blah.. ok, so I press it, it opens a pop up with more info like the date, location, etc...
    Info:
I am binding the things in the lost box from and "events" statement, and I want the data in the list box in the pop up to display the selected child item, "event".
    Zack Bowling

So are you storing that 'more info data' along with main data(i.e. that metallica concert etc.) somewhere in a List/observableCollection/database etc, if yes then probably it can be fetched directly from that collection.
    e.g.
    private void listBox_Tap(object sender, System.Windows.Input.GestureEventArgs e)
    var Itemobj = (listboxname.SelectedItem) as ObjectClassname; string datevalue = Itemobj.date; string location = Itemobj.location;
//so using Itemobj you can fetch the properties you want as stored in ObjectClassname.
// Here ObjectClassname is the name of class storing the properties(setter-getter) for the parsed data.

  • If I have an I phone and I just bought an iPad 2 64 g, and 3 g, do I have to have a data plan or can it pick up wifi from my iPhone ?

If I just bought an iPad 2 64 gz, 3G , do I have to buy a data plan, or can it pick up the wifi from my 3G I phone?

If your phone carrier supports it (and it may be an additional fee/subscription) then you should be able to use the iPhone as a personal hotspot for the iPad : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4517

  • Unlimited Data Plan-Need to change my phone but don't want to lose!!

I am "grandfathered" into the unlimited data plan, we have four lines, I need to change my phone as my current one doesn't work. I tried switching to an old phone that I used 6 months ago with the unlimited data via online and it would not allow me to do so. How can I change to another phone without being told I have to buy a data plan? If we need to "buy a data plan" all 4 phones will be going else where....

Makes no difference about any tin foil hats, Verizon is using ANY MEANS to force unlimited data users off the unlimited and onto share or metered data. It is a fact. They tried twice with me and I pay full price for my devices.
    1) Change your minutes, they want to take away your unlimited.
    2) Buy a new device on subsidy, lose your unlimited data.
    3) Buy a new device on the Edge program, lose unlimited data.
    4) Swap a device on your account, they want to take unlimited away.
    5) Add a prepay tablet to your account, they tell you that you lose Unlimited data.
However the instructions are you are prepaying for the tablet use so its billed to your credit or debit card yet not really part of your cell phone plan but they want you to lose unlimited.
In short if you go online or call on the phone or even chat, for any reason in some cases Verizon is removing your unlimited data. And you have to be careful since many here are stating the same as I listed.
They are a business, if they decided not to have unlimited data trust me it will be gone. So leave a little room in that tin foil so the broadcast will get through.
Just for a giggle, many many years ago I bought an unlimited Mobil Gasoline coffee cup. You paid for it once and each time you came to a Mobil station you get a free coffee. I still have the cups (they came in two sizes) yet just try and get that free coffee. The company dropped the promotion. And now you get arrested for theft.
    Nothing lasts forever.
    Good Luck
