Do I have to buy newest version of iLife to get iMovie v. 6?

I'm starting to get into movie making (just for the family history and gifts and such). Do I need to get the newest iLife to have the latest version of iMovie and iDVD? AND, is it worth it for a beginner?

Yes.
iLife 06 includes the most recent versions (minus updates) of iMovie, iDVD, Garageband, iPhoto and the "new kid" iWeb.
None are sold separately so you need the complete suite even if all you want is iMovie.
More news:
Experienced Apple software buyers have learned that new releases of these products are announced in the first few weeks of January each year.
Wait until iLife 07 is announced so you get the "newest" versions.
