Do I have to buy pages twice..once for laptop and for iPad?

ALSO, Is pages the best word processing for simple documents to be transfered or written on my ipad?
Thanks

Thank you for such a quick response.  I would still like to hear if there is any better word processing app if anyone knows of one.  Until then - I will go ahead and purchse pages.
Thanks again for clearing it up.  I made a mistake of purchasing another app twice and didn't want to do it again.

I have a couple or dozen or so excel spread shheets that I use origionally created in M/s Excel v.5.0 ( yup some time ago although have run and updated them on office 2007  perfectly etc.  AND numerous word files that I refer to. I have also run these files using Open Office on a small 13" mac Book Pro. successfully.
I have now decided to change my personal use computers > macs.
Ok, so in summary then i think you kind guys are saying:
    (1) That if i buy Pages & Numbers or even iworks which is Apple's suite of such programs i believe, then I can download and Run these apps /programs on each my personal  mac computers whether they be my second hand Imac or second hand 17" mac book pro. ( basically i have purchased these so that I am converting to the "Apple Side" and can use the Imac desktop while at home and Mac book pro when out and about) , under the one purchase and one licence.
    (2) The decision as to whether to Buy M/s Office for Mac v Pages & Numbers or the iworks suite is that if I have lots of MACROs in my existing files written in M/soft that it would be better to go for M/s Office for Mac. I understand that Macros are the automated thingys ?? I have formulae obviously inthe fairly simple spread sheets but not aware of any macros. So I guess that means ~ I could purchase either product by the sounds of it. yes? Are there any other obvious things i need to consider?
    Other INFO:
Also, I have snow leopard on one system and Maveric ( pretty impresive!) on the other. i am slightly reluctant to upgrade the snow leopard o/s as I would have to upgrade the paralles software and probably Windows software as well in order to run an old Kitchen, drawing program that I use occaisionally. I know that one should be able to partition / and Boot camp but I really don't want to do that. I feel at this stage its not worth payingtoi up grade all these bits of software for something I rarely use. But I am open to anyones comments / views.
    Thanks.

  • Can I add my existing, licensed apps to my list of 'Purchases' on the Mac App Store so I don't have to buy them twice?

    Hello,
I was wondering if I could add my existing, licensed apps to the list of app 'Purchases' that I have on the Mac App Store.
The reason for this is that I recently suffered the inevitable hard disk failure and I had to rebuild my MacBook Pro from scratch (with the help of Time Machine and Migration Assistant, etc.). As usual, I hadn't really maintained my MBP for quite a while and things sort of got away from me, in terms of data, apps, preferences, permissions, users (my personal account, my wife's account, my old work account...), etc.
So I wanted to rebuild my MBP on a clean slate. I like having the ability to quickly download and install just the right apps that I "really" need from MAS safe in the knowledge that:
they are there (assuming they're still available through MAS) with a full description of what they do and when I bought them, etc.
they are going to be in the most up-to-date version,
I'll be able to download and install them cleanly with no corruption from years of multiple user preference changes and permissions, etc.
that they will be managed and maintained (updated) through the same mechanism,
    so much more.
The benefits of having apps from MAS are easy to see when compared to going through my downloads folder and emails looking for the latest installers, working out what they're for in the first place, finding the license key in some forgotten e-mail, etc.
I am aware that I can build a clean machine and then restore just the right apps in their most up-to-date version as I had them on my backups.  The one thing to say about that is that the apps may have been used and abused once too many times and their preferences, etc. may not be in the most desirable form. It's just not as elegant as the MAS solution.
I realise that not all apps, app versions, or app vendors, are available through MAS. But I still have a fair few apps currently available on MAS that were bought prior to the existence of MAS, prior to them becoming available on MAS, or were bought directly for some other reason (by mistake).
So I wondered if there was any way I could convert my legitimate licenses from simply a direct purchase to one through MAS and have those apps listed under my 'Purchases' list. It would reduce the amount of work I'd have to do, not only to rebuild my machine but also to maintain it.
I cannot find any reference or way of having this work the way I would like it to. But I was hoping that some Apple guru would enlighten me.
I have thought about the possible mechanisms something like this would need to work and I must admit I see some not insurmountable issues (not as much technical as legal or possibly logistical). I realise that MAS is a service in its own right and as such has its own Terms, Conditions and Licensing that may not be compatible with the licenses that I already have. I also realise that when I purchase an app from MAS that I'm paying for the entire service including updates and use on multiple machines that I may own, etc. Obviously I do not want to pay the full purchase cost again for the same app twice, but I am willing to pay a small conversion/upgrade fee to have it managed as part of my 'Purchases' on MAS.  Think of it in the same terms as iTunes works.  I can purchase music, etc. but I can also add my own CD collection and have it managed by iTunes and store it in the cloud should anything go wrong with my local machine, etc.
So if this is currently not possible, then for the Apple MAS product managers out there, consider this as a suggestion/feedback.  I'd be happy to discuss my thoughts in more detail about not only how to achieve this for now but also for the future when you may add existing applications to MAS that people may have previously bought direct and would like to have managed through MAS going forward. The benefits to the users are hopefully clear, but from Apple's perspective I hope that you can see the advantages too, commercially, etc.
PS: I apologise for the wordiness of my query and overuse of 'etc.', etc.

Can I add my existing, licensed apps to my list of 'Purchases' on the Mac App Store so I don't have to buy them twice?
No. Only apps purchased from the App Store can be re downloaded for free including updates.

  • If I bought Pages for my Mac, I have to buy the same application for the ipad

I bought the application Pages for my iMac, I have to buy the same application for y Ipad also?

Yes, the Mac Pages app is different than the iOS Pages app.
Once you purchase Pages for iPad you can then use it on all your iOS devices (iPhone, iPod) but not on your Mac and vice versa.

I believe so. The download is really an install app and never goes to the download older. It executes immediately.   This means here is nothing to move to another computer.

Click this link to open the web page for the iOS version of Pages which should automatically launch the iTunes Store.

  • Do I have to buy Pages again if I have it on my iMac desktop and want to get a macbook

Do I have to buy Pages again if I want it on my macbook if I have it on my desktop

You can use the Pages license you purchased. If you purchased Pages in the Mac App Store, you can install it in all your computers with Mac OS X for free. Just open the Mac App Store, log in with your Apple ID, go to Purchases and download Pages free of charge

    Hi there,
I was just thinking about updating my comuputers 9 macbook pro and Imac) to OS X Lion but am unsure whether I have to buy it twice.

  • I bought an iPad and an iTunes card, I want to buy an application from the Apps store but it only gives me the option of credit card.  How can I buy Pages with my iTunes card to my iPad? thank you

I bought an iPad and an iTunes card, I want to buy an application from the Apps store but it only gives me the option of credit card.  How can I buy Pages with my iTunes card to my iPad? thank you

Have you redeemed your iTunes card to an account associated with an Apple ID?
Once you have your iPad associated with an Apple ID AND you have an account with a credit card associated with the same Apple ID AND you have some 'store credit' (from redeeming your iTunes card) then purchases use the store credit before they charge the credit card, so you should be ok!
Personally, I use 'store credit' as a way to monitor whether or not there have been any 'unauthorised' purchases because as soon as the store credit is zero, the security code from the credit card is needed for further purchases!  It does mean that I have sometimes to top up store credit before making a purchase, but 'better safe than sorry'!

  • If I buy pages on iTunes for my iMac will it also work on my iPad2

I want to buy pages thru iTunes on my iMac.  if I do so will I also be able to use the same purchase to install on my iPad2?  I just wan to make sure that I dont have to buy it twice.

No, you buy Pages for the iMac on Mac AppStore. The iMac and the iPad have different OS and there for Pages is differently coded so you have to buy one for each device type.

  • If I buy iwork for my macbook, do I have to buy it in addition for the ipad2 ?

I am trying to make the transition from PC to Mac and thus will be buying both, a macbook and an ipad2. Id like to know if I would I thus have to buy applications like iwork , for both macbook and ipad ? Thats a double expenditure.

Yes, you'll have to buy it twice.  Even then, it's still cheaper than one copy of Office, and having bought it, you can then install it on as many Macs or iOS devices (iPads, iPhones, iPod Touches) as you own.
