Do i have to connect ipad to a computer for it to be recognized as a device in itunes?
My son has his own Apple Id but I did not want to connect to my computer. Do I have to connect it to the computer to have it recognized in iTunes?

Did he use your AppleID when logging into iMessage the first time? If so, you and he are sharing the same iMessage account, so yes, he will see all the same messages you do. He can logoff iMessages and log back in with his own AppleID, which will then create his own iMessage account.
AppleIDs get used for multiple Apple services - iTunes and App stores, iCloud, iMessage, these forums. But you need not use the same AppleID for all of them. Using the same AppleID for account based services like iCloud and iMessage means using the exact same account for those services. If you do not want content and message to be shared, you need to use separate AppleIDs to make separate accounts for those services.

1. Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

23. Sync Music/Podcast/Movies to iPad (computer)

Connect iPad to MAC computer and get this message: iTunes could not connect to the iPad because the device timed out. What is the likely problem???
Eject the iPad, quit iTunes, restart the Mac and reset the iPad and try again. Use another USB port on the Mac if you have a free one to use.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad start up. -
I turned my iphone off when visiting the doctor's surgery and now it won't turn back on. It had 73% battery left and I have tried connecting it to my computer with USB but nothing happens. I have taken out and replaced the sim card too. Any suggestions
If wjosten's tip doesn't work try plugging it into a USB charger (not through your computer), wait about 30 seconds and it should come on. If it doesn't remove the cord from the phone and keep trying this. I've had this same issue and found a combination of the reset & charging cable tends to work. Sometimes it takes about 5 minutes for the phone to respond.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

My Iphone 4 just updated to the iOS6. I've connected it to my computer for the first time since then, and wanted to back up my photos in iPhoto. However, although Iphoto recognized my phone, it shows no photos to upload or backup. It lists my phone in the "devices" category on the left bar, but no longer shows any of my photos.
Does anyone have any suggestions?I've reread your question several times and am not sure I understand it.
Are you trying to basically start over, as if you just took your iPhone out of the box? If so, do:

i have been using firefox on my computer for four years. now you force an update i didnt even want, cuz everything was FINE already, and now if i try to use firefox, it says it cant even be used on my computer. i want to watch my shows, i dont want to spend hours resetting things up or waiting for an email to tell me what im supposed to do. why in hell do you force updates when things are working just f-ing fine, that make everything worse, why cant anything that works ever just be left alone to work.

place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.
