Do I have to downgrade Bootcamp 5.1 to 4.0 to install windows 7 32 bit?

I have an early 2010 MacBook Pro running Windows XP on my bootcamp partition.  I recently upgraded the Mac side to Mavericks and thus have Bootcamp 5.1 installed.  The documentation I've been reading says that 5.1 only supports the 64 bit version of Windows 7.  Do I need to downgrade my Bootcamp to 4.0, and if so, how would I go about that?
Thank you for your help,
Mike

Windows 7 requires Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and the Boot Camp 3.1 Update. For complete system requirements information, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899
The 3.1 update is here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL996
The 3.2 update is here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1333
Here's a couple of sites that helped me when I used Boot Camp to install Windows XP.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities!
Yes, you can install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit in your Mac using Parallels for Mac. Just follow the instructions of the virtualization programs during the install. Should you need any assistance with the installation process, I strongly recommend contacting Parallels Tech Support (you must register with Parallels in order to have tech support).
Alternatively, you can always use Apple's BootCamp if you want to run Windows natively in your Mac. Check their support page, Apple has a lot of good links explaining this solution.
    Hope this helps!

  • For those who run Windows 8 with bootcamp: Do you update windows 8, with windows update? I have the latest bootcamp drivers, and never checked for updates on windows. Do you normally update windows 8?

Windows 8 has been running very well after installing it with bootcamp and its latest drivers.
I just have never updated Windows 8 itself, (windows has never checked for updates), and just has been
using it bare. Do you update windows 8 to the latest updates with windows 8, and have any problems
with the updates? Just curious before I start updating it for once.

You have to update Windows to the latest version with Windows Update and keep it updated, because this is a matter of security. Microsoft provides a lot of security updates and you have to install them even if you have got an antivirus. Then you can find other updates, and if you want to install Windows 8.1, just install all updates with Windows Update, and then go to the Windows Store and download Windows 8.1.
Apple says that Windows 8.1 is not supported by Boot Camp, but people say it works without any problem with the most recent drivers, so I do not find any risk after upgrading to Windows 8.1.

  • I have a Mac Book Pro A1226 and I want to install Windows 7 Ultimate. I have boot camp 3.0, I have a Mac Book Pro A1226 and I want to install Windows 7 Ultimate. I have boot camp 3.0

Please help.  I have a Mac Book Pro ( late 2007- A1226)  that I want to install Windows 7 ultimate on.  I have boot camp 3.0 and I can set up the partition but when i click start installation, I get a black screen ( for a few seconds) then it goes to a grey window, which alternates between flashing the apple symbol and a circle with line through it.  It will do this for however long I let it go for.
Would it be better for me to buy parallels software than keep persisting with this avenue.

First, make sure you ONLY have the wired Apple Keyboard and wired mouse connected.
You should have BootCamp Asst. 3.3 or 3.4 now I believe is the latest version.
Do you have the W7 disk or ISO download version?
When does the flashing start, after Windows 7 sets the NTFS formating and you click to install?

Here is how I fixed the problem.
Uninstall Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes, and Quicktime. Basically any Apple software.
Download and re-install itunes, it will install all of the above.
Open iTunes. It now runs correctly.
I was having the same problem until I did this, and it fixed the problem right away.
    Sit back and enjoy music.

You can use 3rd party software such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone on an external drive.
I use SuperDuper to create a clone. Yes, it's true the Recovery HD will need to be recreated after restoring a clone because neither of these softwares nor Time Machine backup that partition. It's really no big deal. You just reinstall Lion on top of itself after the restore and reapply any Software Updates including the 10.7.1 update. I've done this a few times with no issues.
The Lion Recovery Assistant app creates an external Recovery HD on like a USB thumb drive, but it creates this using the Recovery HD from your Lion install. If the Recovery HD is missing, the app will not create one for you.
    EDITED:
Create your bootable clone on an external drive.
Create an external USB thumb drive with the Recovery HD using the Lion Recovery Assistant.
    Swap out hard drives.
Boot from the USB Recovery HD thumb drive.
Use Disk Utilities to create a new partition (Macintosh HD), format it with the GUID partition table and Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
While in Disk Utilities, click your hard drive (not the new partition); then click the Restore button.
The Source of your restore is the external clone you created. The Destination is the newly created Macintosh HD partition.
Click the Restore button. The restore will take awhile depending on the size of the clone.
After the restore, boot your system and it should boot into Lion.
Reinstall Lion on top of itself to recreate the Recovery HD at the end of your Lion partition.
Reapply Software Updates including the 10.7.1 update (if you want it).
    Hope this helps!

  • How do I install Windows 8 on Mountain Lion (mac mini) 2010 Server using bootcamp with out Optical Drive?

I have a 2010 Mac Mini server running 10.8.4 (12E55).  I just bought a brand new copy of Windows 8 from micrsoft.  I have tried using boot camp and it will not recognize a burned DVD in my remote optical drive on my laptop running windows 7 or my macbook running Lion 10.7.5.   I have had Microsoft on both of my computers remoted in for about 8 hours and they tried just about everything that I've tried.
Microsofts tech support has made me a bootable DVD and a bootable Flash Drive through remote desktop (awsome good job microsoft tech support).  I have even tried formatting my mac mini's second 500GB hard drive to FAT32 using this whole disc as my windows partition.  I know that when I go to install windows 8 it is going to reformat the drive to NTFS but all the articles that I've found, say this is what you have to do to get the drive formatted properly to get the ball rolling and get windows will fix it when it goes to install by reformatting to NTFS.
Ok so right now I have my second 500GB hdd on my mac mini formatted to FAT32 and I have tried to reboot holding my option key like I do on my mac book.  If I want to boot to a different hdd on my macbook all I do is hold the OPTION key during start up and you get prompted to choose one of the bootable disc that is on your computer.  Well if I put my USB drive which is bootable on my macbook into my macbook and do this right now its not showing up.
Now I just put the DVD that they made me in my macbook and it shows up as bootable disc.  But the USB doesn't.  (1 hour later)  I just got microsft to remake the USB drive and am going to try that again so ta ta for now and I'll come back on to post to tell you if it works.

Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox are available from their respective sites. Read their installation instructions which explain how to install Windows.

  • Can I install Windows 7 with Bootcamp without a disk

I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium when I also purchased Parallels 7.  My main objective was to use the Windows partition for games that Mac doesn't have (Everquest II for example).  I had no trouble installing Windows with Parallels but the games I want to play work very poorly on the virtual machine.  Is there any way that I can junk Parallels and install Windows using Bootcamp?  Note:  Windows was downloaded from the Parallels web site.  I am using a MacBook Pro with Lion, early 2011, Intel 2.2 GHz i7 processor with 4 GB memory.  Another 4GB memory is in the mail but hasn't arrived yet.  All software is up to date.  Another question.  Would upgrading to Mountain Lion solve the problem?  Please, if there is anyone who knows the answer, give me instructions on how to ditch Parallels for Bootcamp.  Thanks.

You can install Windows in BootCamp (it will be a fresh installation) and you can remove the existing VM installation. Windows will run faster in Boot Camp than it will in a VM (parallels is a VM).
Please note that MacBook Pro's have 2 ram slots, and they will both be occupied with a 2G chip in a standard configuraton, there will be nowhere to install the other 4G that is in the mail. Return it and order 2 x 4G chips and remove the 2 x 2G chips already fitted.

  • Install Windows 7 on Bootcamp 5.1 iMac Late 2009 27''

    HI,
I have a late 2009 iMac 27 inch and try to install Windows 7 with bootcamp:
    - iMac (27-inch, Late 2009)
    - OSX 10.10.2
    - Bootcamp 5.1.3
    - Windows 7 Enterprise (on DVD)
    - USB 2.0 Harddisc
    - External SuperDrive for the Windows Install DVD
What happens is, that the Screen turns black after the partitioning of the internal drive by BootCamp. The Windows Installation does not start at all. Then the iMac reboots and gets stuck with just showing the Apple logo.
I can then reset it with the on/off buttoned with the option key can select the OS X partition, which makes it boot in OS X. The bootcamp partition shows no files on it. When I start bootcamp again, I can only remove th bootcamp partition.
Any clues? This is not the missing driver issue (as that shows a blinking cursor AFTER installation of Windows.
    Best regards
    Hollebole

    - External SuperDrive for the Windows Install DVD
According to iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) - Technical Specifications, there is a built-in Optical drive on your Mac.
    Optical drive
    Slot-loading 8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Writes DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL discs at up to 4x speed
Writes DVD-R and DVD+R discs at up to 8x speed
Writes DVD-RW discs at up to 6x speed and DVD+RW discs at up to 8x speed
Reads DVDs at up to 8x speed
Writes CD-R discs at up to 24x speed
Writes CD-RW discs at up to 16x speed
Reads CDs at up to 24x speed
Is there a reason not to use the built-in Optical drive? For most Macs with built-in Optical drive, BCA sets the booting to be from the internal Optical drive, not from the external Optical drive.

  • How to install windows 7 on bootcamp without using super drive

    Hi All,

I know there are many other threads, but I guess I couldn't find clear answer to this problem. Is that the Apple's server problem or just me?
I'm trying to install Windows7 via Bootcamp, with FAT 32 formated USB with ISO, on Macbook air 2012.
    Thanks!

The problem is the encryption and how your notebook handles it rather than a Time Capsule problem. I had similar problems until I updated the WLAN drivers on my IBM T41.
The way I convinced myself it wasn't an Apple problem was to connect my IBM T41, via ethernet, to my AEBSn. I was able to connect to internet so I knew it was a conflict between my wireless card and the AEBSn.
I am now using the WPA2 encryption for the AEBS without issue and connecting many different types of hardware; three iPod Touches, two MSI Wind Netbooks (Win XP SP3), one IBM T41 (Win XP SP2) wirelessly and both my 20" iMac and Dell 8250 Win XP (SP2) by ethernet
The MSI Winds are brand new and they would connect to the AEBSn but couldn't get an IP address from the internet (Limited or No Connectivity error message). The AEBSn was using WEP encryption. After doing a little research I found that WEP was a very common cause of this error message so I switched the AEBSn to WPA2 and everything works fine now.
Don't assume that because you can't connect via OPEN it isn't a encryption issue because my Winds wouldn't connect that way either...it wasn't until I changed to the WPA2 Personal that they connected.
You may also need to change the program that handles the WLAN connection, sometimes Windows handles it better but for the newest addition to our household, the MSI Winds, I am using the Realtek utility that matches the WLAN card and everything is hunky dory...
Finally sometimes firewalls will prevent getting the IP address...doesn't happen often but it has happened to me so I would double-check that by turning off the Windows Firewall and just verify that it isn't the firewall (that's never been a problem with my Apple AEBSn but it was a problem with an older Dlink g model).

  • Keyboard issues while installing Windows XP with Bootcamp

    Hi there,
I am running bootcamp and when I am starting to install Windows XP I can't actually move into the setup because the keyboard won't work. Is there anyone who found a solution?
    Thanks.

Same problem..........went back to the old keyboard and everything installed and worked fine in OS X and win-XP. swapping in the new alum keyboard the option key doesn't work during the boot select. once the machine boots to the default OS either mac or windows everything works in that OS.
Something I noticed: during the boot select.... the old keyboard gets power immediately, mouse lights up - keyboard cap-lock light is on. with the new alum keyboard the mouse and cap-lock light do not light until the default OS starts to boot with no boot select in between.
Looks like a boot camp setup doesn't know about the new keyboard even though it is recoginized by drivers in the two OS's. anyone know who to call for help at Apple?

After Unchecking "Auto Proxy Discovery" I also had to Uncheck "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" and then Restart Boot Camp Assistant.

That did the trick, even though the Auto Proxy Discovery checkbox ended up the same as it started.  Windows support software is now downloading...  if you're downloading to an external drive make sure there's a least 1 GB of free space because the WindowsSupport folder is around 700 MB and presumably will grow with time.

Also, Change Domain Name Servers to OpenDNS IP address servers - that should be at the router firewall rather than the OS but may be in both for some people. You may be using the defaults your ISP uses, save those if you want, and try these:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Make sure you are not using LittleSnitch or Symantec (probably other 3rd party firewall)
