Do I Have to Have Duplicates?

When I import a CD/Album that has some songs on it that are on a previously imported CD/Album, the system will ask me if I want to over-write the existing songs. I ususally respond "no" because I want to keep each album intact. Now I have quite a few dupes on my system.
I think that in the past, I've said "Yes" to that option, only to find that a song on one greatest hits collection by Bill Joel, is no longer on another similar collection. It seems to me that the system should alert me to the duplicates, but should be smart enough to place a pointer to a song in one collection if it's already in another. Does it already do this? Am I missing.
I KNOW that in the past, I've gone dupe-hunting in iTunes and have gotten rid of some files. Following that action, I definitely had screwed up some albums.
What am I missing?

In iTunes, under the View menu there should be an option that says something like, "Show Duplicates." Click that and it will show all the duplicates in whatever source you selected (the Library, a playlist, etc.) I hope that helps.

You don't say whether you are on PC or Mac. For Mac there are these two programs which might help (I havn't tried either) :

There are probably similar programs for PCs, but I don't know what they are. On a PC you can hold the shift key and do File > Display Exact Duplicates (without the shift they may not be exact matches) - if one of each duplicate pair has the same date added then you can sort by that and then delete those with (or without) that date.

'Show duplicates' is now under the 'View' menu. To see the 'Date added' column go to 'View options' from the 'View' menu and check it in the section under 'Stats'.
Click an audiobook once to select it and hit command-i (Mac) or control-i (Windows). Go to the 'Options' tab and set 'Media Kind' to 'Audiobook'.

I have used Apple products for quite some time. I have no idea why they keep changing everything that has finally become second nature! It is now MUCH more difficult - create a playlist, show duplicates, etc. Its an absolute mess and I have yet to find anyone who does not have multiple complaints.
I have this same problem. All information I look up says use "Show duplicates", which I have done many times for years before. But now when my iPad is plugged in, that option is grayed out for me (unable to be clicked on). I went to the Apple store today and the employee couldn't even answer my questions. I am planning to go back sometime with my computer as well and beg for a solid explanation.
Wouldn't it be nice if these tracks just didn't duplicate? That seems like a proper solution that would suit me well. Until then I just plug in, arrange by song, and go through manually deleting the extras. Often. #wasteoftime #annoying #argh

You cannot use iCloud with Leopard 10.5.8. The minimum requirement is Lion 10.7.2. If you have been syncing your contacts with iCloud you can only have been doing it by some sort of unsupported hack, and if it doesn't work it's unlikely to be possible to find an explanation. If you have been using other (compliant) devices by trying to sync using both iTunes and iCloud you are likely to get duplicates.
A computer old enough running Leopard may well not be upgradeable to Lion or Mountain Lion, but if you can do so this is the only way you are going to be able to make proper use of iCloud.
The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space

You used the data. Verizon can not see what it was sued for. However your phone can see whats apps used the data. go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle. line the dates up with your cycle. then there will be a bar graph below that extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right. after those are extended below that will be a list of apps, there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

Why in the world are my contact at 14,000 and have so many duplicate contacts. How in the world do I get ride of these contacts? Its the stupid Verizon Backup assistance that created all these contacts. This has occurred since I upgrade to a new IPhone

Use iCloud or iTunes to back up your phone. Then go online and delete all contacts from backup assistant.(it keeps them in the trash.) Then reset your phone and reload from your backup, then use backup assistant or Verizon cloud. Sounds like a lot but it doesn't take long.

Somewhere along the line, the photos that I have on my iPad 2 got duplicated and all the event names were removed.
I think this happened when I upgraded to Lion and iOS 5

The show duplicates/show exact duplicates features have been left out of iTunes 11.0. Rumor suggests they will be restored in the next build. In the meantime I have written two Windows scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates, either from a selection of tracks or the entire library. Note that, as with the iTunes feature, this list makes no distinction between "originals" and "dupes", you have to decide which is which.
There is also my DeDuper script for automatically removing duplicate copies but keeping one remaining copy of each set. This can preserve ratings, play counts, playlist membership, etc. which are lost in a manual clean up. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background on deduping and the script.
If you want to manually remove duplicate tracks use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist. Keep one of each repeated group of files and don't send the others to the recycle bin unless you are sure that there are multiple files on the disc as opposed to multiple entries to the same file. Same advice to backup applies.

That option was removed in version 10.4.
Use the "Organize Library" option in iTunes to move all media to the folder listed in Edit > Preferences > Library.
Then that folder can be moved to where you want it ultimately.

I saw a similar question like mine and the answer was that you have to have a credit card linked to your iTunes account to make in app purchases and I was thinking they were right until I talked to a few friends who cancelled their credit cards and took them off of the account and can still make in app purchases so that can't be the issues. You can set up the Express using AirPort Utility and wireless only, but you must first log on to the default network that the Expess provides.....Apple Network xxxxxx....and then open AirPort Utility.
No password is required.
For most users, the Ethernet cable method is simpler....if you have a spare Ethernet cable handy.

If it is in your itunes on your computer, then select it to sync just like everything else that you sync.
The music must be on your computer.

You need to reconfigure your phone for use with your Apple ID. I suggest you restore yours as new then reconfigure it with your information and Apple ID. Be sure to disable Find My Phone, if it's enabled, before proceeding.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

Why do i have to have my cellular data turned on to recieve or send TEXT messages?

my girlfriend and i have noticed this most recently.
To send or recieve TEXT messages (not MMS) on our iPhone 5's we have to have our *cellular data* turned on. OMG why? It's supposed to not use cellular data for texting (or callling) so why do we have to have it switched on for TEXT messages (SMS)? Does that mean that texting is now going to eat our data plans? If so, we'd of been better off with our old cell phones.

because my g/f and i couldnt get each other's txts, over 3/4 of the time, if the cellular data wasnt turned on.
green bubble = sms.
blue bubble=imessage (data or wifi)
all this was with (blue bubble) imessage stuff (with the thought that it'd use wifi, but the wifi at work *****, so ofcourse it'll use data.
Hmmn. I'm going to shut off iMessage and see if that takes care of the issue.
