Do I have to have iWork to store documents on iCloud?

Do I need to purchase the iWork apps (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) in order to store documents on iCloud?  I didn't need to on MobileMe.  It certainly looks to be the case.

you need to have these mobile apps on your iOS5 device in order to be able to use the iwork-web-app storage/upload system in www.icloud.com, yes.
Iwork on a Mac is not necessarily needed - because the OSX versions have no iCloud features at all. You could as well use OpenOffice to create Microsoft compatible doc/xls and ppt files and upload these - the iOS apps will open them all as long as the format is Microsoft OR iwork09.

  • Store documents on iCloud

Can I store on icloud my microsoft´s documents, I mean Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and then edit them?

    You can.
To do it, first open System Preferences > iCloud, and make sure that "Documents & Data" is ticked. Then, open each iWork app you have on your Mac and move your Office documents to the iCloud window of the app that belongs to the document you want to upload. For example, you need to upload Word documents to iCloud by using Pages; to upload PowerPoint documents, use Keynote, and to upload Excel documents, use Numbers.
If you have not got the applications on your Mac, open http://www.icloud.com, log in with your Apple ID and move your documents to each iWork app

  • Can I store documents in iCloud? Other than those default ones.

iCloud is very useful for photos and documents I create with Pages (Mac) for example. Indeed, I can use Pages on my iPhone (4) for quick edits. Even have a Bluetooth keyboard that works with it... But other programs, like Freeway express etc, I can't seem to tell it to save anything to iCloud. I'm haveing to revert to SkyDrive - which is nice, but doesn't seem to want to play nicely and sync with the Apple folder with out a bit of a nudge. I also have a Win8.1 box ( which I hate, but lets not go there.) which has stuff on it I need, and it actually plays nicely with iCloud. but of coourse I still set up say, a Documents directory.
Does anyone know if Apple is thinking of adding "Documents" to iCloud. So I can stuff anything in there? Silly question I know, but yhou never know who's reading this stuff :-)

    Definitely not a silly question.
As far as I know iCloud does not have generic storage for any kind of document. Only the specific Apple apps that support it.
For those other things, I like Dropbox, which does sync flawlessly with the Dropbox folder on my mac, and with my IOS devices.
You are correct, that would be a nice feature. You can give feedback to Apple here: Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback

  • How do I store documents on iCloud?

I'd like to access documents from my iPhone that I've created on my MacBook Pro. In the way that I could access documents on mobile me.
    thanks

You can use iCloud to access documents created by apps such as Pages and Numbers. There is no way to store documents not created by apps specifically designed for iCloud.

That method ended with Mobile Me.

I asked a question about the iDisk and it looks like that's going away, but you could try one of these services:

The iDisk will disappear, and its contents be erased, when MobileMe terminates at the end of June. iCloud does not provide an equivalent replacement, so you will need to look for a third-party alternative. This page examines some options:

  • TS3991 Neither of my two Macs will upload or sync iWork documents to iCloud

Neither of my two Macs will upload or sync iWork documents to iCloud.  My iOS divides have no trouble syncing documents to iCloud over the same network as the Macs.  I have rest iCloud, and made sure that my iCloud documents preferences were correct.  This is getting extremely frustrating. Anyone have some suggestions?

Could you tell us what happens when you try to sync your documents with iCloud.

  • If I have iWork 09, will I have to buy the new app from the mac store?

I already have iWork 09 on my computers.  Will I have to buy the new app from the App Store?

    Larry,
After you install Mavericks, run Software Update. You should be offered the updates in the normal update mode. No charge.

My hard drive had to be recently reinstalled (5 days ago) with the software being 100% totally new, and totally up to date.
I therefore do not have iwork 09 which was purchased as a family pack (via download).  How can I download it again without purchasing, and reactivate iwork09?  It does not show up in my App store under purchases, as it was purchased a few years ago.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
You can transfer itunes purchases fom an iphone:  Without syncing : File Transfer Purchases
or you can redownload them.  Open itunes store, click Purchased, under Quick Links.

There really is nothing more to say than what Allan has already said, but to explain just a little further, what you may have read is that once you purchase an iOS app in the app store, you do not have to purchase it again if you need to download it to another iOS device. In other words once you buy the app, you can load it onto unlimited iPhones, iPod Touches or iPads.
You must be using the same iTunes account that you originally purchased the app with in order to download it again. But as Allan said, just because you have it on your Mac does not entitle you to download it free to your iPad.

I have iWork 09 and OS 10.7.5 but Software Update says there are no updates.  Anyone know why?

Because you need to get Mavericks and then the current iWork applications from the Mac App Store and not Software Update.

  • I own an iMac and a Macbook Air and I have iWorks on my iMac. Can I copy it to my Air so that I can use it while working out-of-town? It would not be used on both computers simultaneously.

It depends on how you bought iWork (no 's').
If you bought a single-user retail box or license from the trial, no, you cannot legally install it on another Mac.
If you bought a family pack retail box or licesnce, you can install on up to five Macs in your household.
If you bought it from the Mac App Store, you can install the apps on as many Macs that you have by opening the Mac App Store & clicking on Purchases. Enter your Apple ID & click install.

  • I have iwork on two computers, but my account doesn't show record of it for my being able to reinstall on the new computer.  Is there a time limit?  I tried airdrop, but it won't let me use it.

Sounds like you installed iWork from before there was the Mac App Store.
If you installed it from a Family DVD you are entitled to install that on 5 computers and can do that from the DVD.
If not then you need to purchase it from the M.A.S. and will be able to install it on any of your computers using the same Apple I.D. However Apple is promising a new version before Christmas so it may not be a good time to buy now.

  • If I already have iWork suite on my iPad, do I need to buy another for my MacBook Pro?

If I already have iWork suite on my iPad, do I need to buy another for my MacBook Pro, can i transfer to my new acbook pro?

The Mac version is a separate version from the iOS version and has top be paid for separately.
If you buy it from the Mac App Store (MAS) however it is quite cheap and can be installed on all your computers that use the same Apple ID.
