Do I have to have Lion to run iCloud from my iMac?

I have an iMac and a MacBook and just got a new iPhone. Everything is on my iMac but I do not have Lion. Do I need that to have everything in my iMac sync with iCloud? Also, I've heard that Lion's program won't work with my Photoshop C3. Is that correct?

Go to MobileMe in System Preferences, click on it, you will be asked if you want to convert to iCloud. This of course, assumes that you already have an account. Otherwise, just click on the MM icon and sign up.

HT201260 Upgrading my OS so I can run icloud from my imac

I have a 10K549 build imac and have OS v 10.6.8 installed. I read that in order to use icloud from my computer I need to download a different version, having already downloaded to correct version which I have read contains the functionality I am looking for.
Before I go down a rabbit hole and download loads of software and get into a scramble with what I need to do, can someone please tell me what steps I need to take in order to utilise the 10.8.2 v I have just downloaded as I am advised by the software that I need 10.8 to run the combo I have downloaded. In other words, how do I get from 10.6.8 to 10.8.2 and why doesn't it download as part of software updates anyhow?
I don't even know if my software is snow leopard or lion?
Any help would be gratefully received.

Before attempting any Major Upgrade... get yourself an External Hard Drive... and create a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive...
By far the easiest way to make such a Backup, is to use something like
SuperDuper http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
or CCC http://www.bombich.com/
That way, should anything untoward happen during the Upgrade,
you will NOT LOSE ANYTHING.
(Get an EHD that is at least equal to your current Drive...)

I have a 2004 imac g5 and I have been able to use iCloud.com on it. I have used it with Safari, WebKit, Tenfourfox and stainless browsers. I had the best experience in Tenfourfox, followed by WebKit. In Tenfourfox, I was able to use all iCloud apps including the beta versions of keynote, numbers and pages. Try it, you have nothing to loose but possibly making your old Mac more usable and relevant.

I am running 10.8 and setup airport extreme to run music from my imac to my receiver in the other room. When I open sound from system preferences, I don't see an external device to choose, other then internal speakers. Any ideas?

Airport Express (the small Airport device, which is the only one with an audio connection) works through Airtunes, which only works with iTunes. The computer won't send ALL system sound to the Airport. If you actually want to send sound outside of iTunes, use Airfoil.

Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

You have to search with some patience and you will find all the informations on the Apple support pages and here in this forum.
You find i Cloud in SAFARI at www.icloud.com and set as you like.
Usually iCloud sincs all the devices which have the same AppleID.
If you wish to use devices for different persons you need to give them different AplleID and on the MAC create different User Accounts. Each will be fully separate.
Or you can go to settings (settings are to be found under the apple icon on top left of the screen) and from there open Sistem Preferences and iCloud.

HT1338 after last update imovie is crashing multiple times. I have Lion 10.7.4 on my iMac.

Since my last update for Lion 10.7.4, ITunes and IMovie --- my IMovie crashes repeatedly when trying to come up. I have reported it to Apple each time it has crashed. Is anyone else having this problem?

You do not need the Lion 10.7.5 update. Just download and install Mavericks 10.9.2 direct from the App Store and install it over the top of your current version of Lion.
And don't forget to make a full backup of your system before upgrading.

I had an old iphone 4s that was backed up on icloud. When I got a new iphone 4s, the back up from my old iphone and new iphone stayed. Now i'm running out of GB and my iphone hasnt been backed up in weeks. if you go to 'settings - iCloud - storage and backup' and remove an old backup, it won't do anything to the current settings/information on your phone, it will only remove the backup.

Error in Lion when running mount_smbfs from LogoutHook

I have a LoginHook and LogoutHook script on all my users computers.   I keep a copy of the scripts on my domain controllers, and copy in a new version everytime they run in case I need to make any changes (LoginHook copies LogoutHook and vice versa). This worked great in Tiger and Leopard (not sure on Snow, don't have a test machine). But on Lion, the one in the LogoutHook is not working! I'm running the exact same commands in both scripts.
Here are the commands:
     mkdir /Volumes/netlogon
     mount_smbfs -o nobrowse //user:password@server/netlogon /Volumes/netlogon
And here is the error:
     mount_smbfs: server rejected the connection: authentication error
Does anyone have any ideas if something changed with this command or the context that the LogoutHook script is running in has changed with Lion?

IIRC, that implies that the smb library isn't included in the install software and that you can't do what you're trying to do.

I have deleted my system preferences from my iMac how can i get it back?

I have accidentally deleted my system preferences from my mid 2007 iMac 27 inch. I logged out of my user to see if it was in one of the others but there was just a question mark when I logged back into my user there was also a question mark is there any way I can get it back?

I suggest you not to use the "E:\" directory letter, but the REPORTS_PATH instead.

On Windows, edit environment variables through the Registry Editor (Start > Run > Regedit).


On UNIX, edit environment variables by revising and running the shell script that defines the initial default values (reports.sh). If you do this, be sure to keep a backup of the original, unaltered reports.sh file.
