Do I have to keep the pictures in iPhoto to stay on the gallery?

I am new to the.mac world, posting my first gallery today. If I post an album to the gallery does it have to stay in my iPhoto? Meaning if I delete the album from my iPhoto does it get deleted from the web gallery?

I don't think they'll be deleted in iPhoto but I advise you to keep them if you want to use these to print them out or use them later. Tthe pictures on your Web gallery will be online yeah but they'll be compressed and you'll loose a lot of quality if you want to re-use them later.

  • Do I have go keep the music on iTunes once I have it on my iPhone as its slowing down my computer

Do I have go keep the music on iTunes once I have it on my iPhone as its slowing down my computer

    Realistically, yes.
If you delete the music from your iTunes, you will have to use Manually Manage for your phone in the future because a Sync will attempt to remove songs that you have removed from iTunes.
More importantly, if you ever need to Restore your phone, only media in your iTunes Library will be added to your phone. So if you delete the computer's Library, you will have lost all your music. There are several discussions in this forum from people who have done this and have now lost all their music.
There is no specific reason why the iTunes Library should slow down your computer. Are you sure it isn't something else that is causing the problem?

No. However iTunes Match is not a backup service: FAQ: Why iTunes Match Can Not Be Used as a Backup

Where are the masters actually stored upon conversion from Aperture to Photos? Photos?
The master files are stored on your drive, but they are not actually stored "in" any folder. Folders are really just special files that store various bits of information about the files associated with that folder, including links to where they actually are stored. That's why you can "move" a file from one folder to another very quickly: all that you really are doing is moving the link & other info from one folder to the other folder, while the file itself stays where it was.
Because of this, it is possible for more than one folder to link to the same file -- in the Finder it looks just like there are two copies of the file, one in each folder, but there really is just the one copy. From the description in the Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries doc, it looks like that's what happens when you import your iPhoto library into Photos -- both the old iPhoto Library "file" (which actually is a set of folders & subfolders of files) & the Photos Library (also consisting of folders & files) contain links to the master files, but like the Apple doc says, there really is just one set of master files being stored.
This is very similar to the way Time Machine backups look like they have multiple copies of the same unique file, one in each time-stamped backup folder, but there really is only one copy on the Time Machine drive. My guess is Apple is using hard links for this, which means the actual master files will not be deleted from the file system as long as at least one link remains to each of them.
So you should be safe in deleting the old iPhotos Library once you are absolutely sure you don't need it, but to be sure, if it was me I would make a backup just in case, or better yet just leave it alone.

    Hi
Most processes in Non destructive Video editing is based on that the raw-material is safe and intact. So by trashing it most things can or will go wrong.
So e.g. in iMovie project - there is NO Movie - just a small text document refering to Your raw-material, audio files and photos (within or not in iPhoto Library) on how they are to act together to Play Your Movie.
And by changing any of them the Movie project will be affected or destroyed.
reg. iDVD there is also a link back to iMovie - Most famous to set of the iDVD BUG !
To do that - one starts a new iDVD project and add movies etc. Then find something i one movie in need to be adjusted. Closing iDVD and returning to iMovie and doing this. Then when back to iDVD it will notice and ask You to Up-date or Cancel. Neither works. The iDVD project is harmed. All Chapters now point to Chapter One and more strange things happens.
the medicine I use - I start a brand new iDVD Project and re-do it and hopefully not fine any more to be fixed in the movie.
This indicates the strong link inbetween iDVD and iMovie and I would not touch anything in iMovie till DVD is Burned and Ready AND Plays Well !
    Yours Bengt W

  • I have ca. 16000 pictures on iPhoto and since I sync'ed with my iPhone , I have ca. 16000 pictures on iPhoto and since I sync'ed with my iPhone

I have ca. 16000 pictures on iPhoto and since I sync'ed my MacBook Air with my iPhone and iPad I seem to be running out of space. Even deleting photos has only helped temporarily. In an older iPhoto version I was able to delete the conversions for the iPhone and iPad but that doesnt seem to be possible with Mountian Lion.

My free space is currently ca. 1.6 GB and that seems to be the reason my Mac is now very slow.
You have a major problem and you need to fix it fast.
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

  • How does one KEEP the gallery widget from moving on a page AFTER you've left the application?

My gallery widgets are NOT stable.  I tried locking them, and locking the entire page... no luck.  What gives?  How can anyone put together a book if the gallery widget (which is crucial to my presentation) is not stable and moves, expands, etc..

I have absolutely no chance to use the gallery widget. Its size changes all the time. It changes when clicking the preview button for iPad, it changes when clsing the document. Pictures are cut all of a sudden, the whole widget moves a few cm.
So every time I close the document or click on preview I have to check the whole document for unwanted changes!!

  • I am having difficulty downloading APPS in my IPAD2. iCloud keeps on reinstalling APPS. And about iTunes, do I have to keep the APPS I downloaded through iTunes? Because I only have a Mac Air 11 64G, so I don't want to back up my iPad apps in the Mac.

Help? I keep on moving in circles. If I download the app through itunes and i go online with the ipad, icloud reinstalls the apps. Then if I download apps with the ipad and I plug it into the Mac, iTunes is forcing me to copy the purchases I made on the iPad to my iTunes. I don't want to keep too many files on the Mac, so I remove them from the iTunes, and if iTunes suddenly decides to force me to synce, I lose a lot of other Apps that I didn't even download using iTunes. I am very confused. How do I do this manually? I don't want to back up everything in the laptop because it's memory is very limited.

Did you ever resolve the iCloud problem.I am in the same position and its driving me mad!!! If you have a link to an solution I would appreciate it.

If you moved your iPhoto Library correctly and then double-click the iPhoto Library icon in the new location, it should open iPhoto and remember the new location.

  • HT4640 Adding a video clip to a keynote presentation - do I have to keep the original video on the camera roll?

I have several keynote presentations that are missing their video clips.  Does the original video clip need to stay on the camera roll after you embed it in the presentation?  I thought not, because when you add a video, a message comes up saying "compressing video" before it gets added.  That made me think that a special compressed version of the original video is made and saved along with the presentation.  I've tried testing this by creating a new presentation, adding a video clip to it and then deleting the original video from the camera roll and the video clip in the presentation was not affected.  You'd think if the clip were linked to a presentation, that iOS would warn you before you delete it from the camera roll.  But I can't think of any other reason why the clips would suddenly be missing from all my keynote presentations.

You can do this with iMovie '06, but not with iMovie '08. You should have iMovie '06 still on your hard disk if you upgraded from iLife '06, or you can download it for free from Apple. Under Editing -> Video Effects, you will find the Fast/Slow/Reverse effect that will do this.

  • After I zip a file, should I or can I delete the original files since I'm trying to save space, or do I have to keep the original one?

I'm trying to free some space up on my computer and was going to start compressing as many files as I can.  I noticed that when I compress one, I see the new zipped file and then still the original files.  So, should I delete the original files after I get the zip file?
    Thanks!

Yes, you can delete the original files.
But if you're running short of space, consider getting a larger HD for your Mac.

  • Do I have to keep the 2013 version of the CC Suite to make content updates?

I downloaded all the newly updated CC programs as instructed and noticed my computer was just about to crash. So, I decided to delete all the 2013 versions since the new seemed better anyway. When I made some changes to an existing website which was created in Muse 2013, I was alarmed to find that the Edge animation slideshow no longer functioned as before. To be sure it was not me, I opened up an exact copy of the file on my Laptop which is still running Muse 2013. Thank goodness for that back-up. I thought for sure all my hard work was lost!?? Please advise.

You may want to reinstall your older Muse

  • I have successfully transferred my library of photos to Aperature. Do I have to keep iPhoto with the same photos in it? In other words, once I've transferred I don't want to use space saving the library in iPhoto AND Aperature.

I am wondering if I need to keep my iPhoto program and library once I've imported all of my iPhotos to Aperature. Seems like I am using double the space. I'd rather only have Aperature rather than both programs if that makes sense

If you have the files imported into Aperture you don't have to keep the iPhoto database. Make sure they are really imported and not only referenced. Probably it's best to keep a back up of the iphoto database some time.
