  • Does anyone know if I would have to pay to upgrade OS X Lion to the OS X Mountain Lion?

Hey, I am looking at buying a Mac Pro but have just seen thaat Apple has a new OS X Mountain Lion coming out htis winter.... Does Anyone know if I would have to pay to upgrade from OS X Lion to the OS X Mountain Lion?  Sorry this will be my first Mac and I would like to buy it with the latest OS.  I would hate to buy now then a newer OS comes out...  Can anyone help?

Well, as both hardware and software seem to be on an accelerating schedule of renewals, you might never buy a mac on that philosophy!
Apple normally offer a period of grace if an new OS comes out a month or so after a new purchase (i.e., you can get a free upgrade), but longer than that an you have to pay.
Of course, there's no compulsion to upgrade to the new OS just because it exists. Plenty of people are still running Leopard 10.5.8.

  • Why do we have to pay to upgrade? WTH

Not only have the iTunes song prices went up but now we have to pay to upgrade?
Maybe I've been out of the loop...But i'd really like to know why are users having to pay for it. And at $9.99?

I like it how everyone says its an option. I guess living is working on becoming an option. The reality though is far more difficult and easier to understand. An option properly interpreted in this corporate envirornment is we need more money. We have alot, but we need more. Apple is like most of society in marketing itself as a great business for people, but like or more so than M$ they need more. Now M$ charges more for their OS, or did until recently, they also had a business model that was screwy and painful. An OS is something that is required.
The Touch/Phone software 1.0 should have been called a beta the 2.0 was just about there, without cut and paste and 3.0 is really an initial release. While Apple might market it differently now, its not just wallstreet and DC that there is false advertising. Going On.
Now they are saying that 3.0 software is just an option, than it had better never to be included because that reveals its beyond an option, its not a game after all

  • Do I have to pay to upgrade from iPhoto '09 to the latest version?

I just bought my first iPhone (the 6), and I want to automatically transfer photos from my (and my wife's) iPhone 6, to iPhoto.  I am using iPhoto '09 and I believe I have to upgrade it to the latest version to make that happen.  I went to the App store to upgrade, but it wants to charge me $14.99.  I thought we didn't have to pay for upgrades any longer if we owned a legit previous version (came pre-installed when I bought my Mac in 2009.  Can anyone shed any light on this?  Or, recommend another app?  Thanks.

    Yes
backup your iPhoto library and purchase the latest version of iPhoto (version 9.5.x) from the App store
If you own any version of iPhoto '11 it is a free update - if you own older versions like iPhoto '09 it is a paid upgrade

  • Why do I have to pay to upgrade iPhoto to photo stream in iCloud.  I don't use this program

Why do I have to pay to upgrade iPhoto to use photo stream on my iMac.  That upgrade or update should have been included in Lion!!!!!

Photo Stream alswo works with Aperture. That is the application I use. I rarely use iPhoto (09).

If you prefer Lightroom use Lightroom. I use LR on my old G4 tower but far prefer Aperture, which I use on a MBP.
Note that evaluation of new apps is generally best done on modern hardware and the latest OS/apps versions. It is common knowledge that LR's speed on legacy hardware is superior to Aperture, but that is only relevant to those old versions, not to the future of either app.
IMO all of us dealing with capture of hundreds of DSLR images at a time need strong modern hardware to cope. On such hardware Aperture rocks.
As to upgrading cost I would suggest that anyone wanting to test Aperture (assuming strong modern hardware and the latest OS) prior to upgrading simply download a trial of Aperture 2.0 and Lightroom 1.0 after they are released.

Here is an excerpt from the Lion SLA; it is interesting because the license differs from the pre-installed OS vs. a purchase from the MAS; in any case, when purchased from the MAS, there is no limit - it very clearly states "on each Mac with SL you own or control". I believe the confusion about the maximum of 5 stems from the maximum of 5 computer allowed for iTunes songs.
    SLA excerpt:
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. Standard and Preinstalled Apple Software License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, unless you obtained the Apple Software from the Mac App Store or under a volume license, maintenance orother written agreement from Apple, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to install, use and runone (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-branded computer at any one time. For example, thesestandard single-copy license terms apply to you if you obtained the Apple Software preinstalled on Apple-branded hardware.
    B. License from Mac App Store. If you obtained a license for the Apple Software from the Mac App Store, then subject to the terms and conditions of this License and as permitted by the Mac App Store Usage Rulesset forth in the App Store Terms and Conditions (http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/) (“Usage Rules”), youare granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license:
    to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the AppleSoftware directly on each Apple-branded computer running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Mac OS XSnow Leopard Server (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control;

You may qualify for the Up-to-Date Program if you bought your Mac from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 11, 2012.
explains it all. If it does not meet the date above then you have to purchase it at $19.99 I think

  • Do I have to pay to upgrade my Macbook to Lion After paying to Upgrade my Mac?

Do I have to pay to upgrade my Macbook to Lion After paying to Upgrade my Mac?  Or does Apple allow you to pay once to upgrade both?

No, you buy it once and you can install it on both your macs.  Just sign in the App store on the second Mac with the same AppleID and you go to the Purchased tab.  You can install it from there.
If you make a copy of the installer the first time you download it then you can use that without having to download 4Gigs again.  The last step of the install process deletes this download so copy before installing.

EEvery time in try to upgrade or buy an app it always says that there's a billing problem I add money to my card but it declines it I just need to know exactly how much I have to pay to fix this problem

If you have an unpaid balance or payment problem:

Click the Billing Info button to see the order.

  • If I downloan Mac osx lion, does that mean that i will have to pay for Mac osx mountain lion

If I download Mac os x lion, does that mean that i will have to pay for Mac os x mountain lion? or will it be like an upgrade for free?
I am just not to sure as to whether I buy it now or later? Please help.
    Thanks.

If you do not find Lion or Mountain Lion features compelling, I recommend you not buy it AT ALL!
10.6.8 works for most of the stuff I do, and I only got 10.7 to play with it.
    If you are using
    Photoshop CS2
    AppleWorks
    Word 2004 or earlier
    Quicken 2007 or earlier
    Eudora 6
    FileMaker 6
look long and hard at 10.7 -- these Applications along with hundreds of other less-popular titles are no longer supported in these versions!!

  • If i get the mbp now do i have to pay for the new os lion

if i get the mbp before the new os comes out, will i have to pay for it later???

Yes, but remember, OS X Lion is new, it's going to have bugs, problems, drivers won't work and all kinds of other **** because Apple has integrated the MacAppStore deeply into the OS.
Best to wait 6-8 months until the dust settles.
Snow Leopard is stable and works, everything works reliably.
Lion will be $30 or so, chump change for 8-9 months of less headaches.
But you better hurry and get a Mac fast, or else it comes with Lion by default.
