Do I have to render?

I have a timeline that is going to compressor to DVDSP. I added lots of MB effects but really do not have time to render the red..... do I even have to?
Will it effect the quailty of output to DVDSP? I am unconcerned with playback.
Thanks in advance

If you don't render, it will add time to the compression part. Because it will render the frame, then encode it.
I tried getting away with that a month ago, and it took 19 hours to encode a 90 min sequence that I had MB on and didn't render. The next time I rendered then encoded...it took 10 hours. Cut the time in half.

  • I keep getting "codec error" when trying to render my transitions. I tried changing my codec but then I have to render my entire footage.

The first screenshot is my raw footage info.
The second screenshot is what I set my sequence to.  This made me able to edit without rendering, but now that I am putting in transitions, I have to render and when I try to render it says "codec error".  Anyone know what I'm missing?

When I go to Easy Setup I don't see ProRes there either.

  • After dragging captured clip to timeline, I have to render

    Hi,
I'm fairly new to this business and have the limited version, FCE. Lately I have been having the problem that when I capture a clip (whether it's in a new project or an old one) and drag it to the timeline, I first have to render it before I can play back. Is that normal?
    Thanks

How do you adjust the settings to get them to match perfectly?
FCP comes with about 3000 pages of manuals. But that's FCP. I've never used FCE. FCE must have something that can help you so open t the online help system and look for sequence settings. Or you can just start dropping every menu along the top till you find sequence>settings.
You will need the manual to figure out how to make them match because you will need to know how to determine what video format you have imported, how you imported it, and if any changes have been made to your media files by you improperly setting the software or if you have a hardware i/o that was not set correctly. None of those questions can be answered easily without you knowing much more about your system and how FCE's workflow is designed.

  • Why do I have to render every video clip?

Every clip I put in FCE has to be rendered, why? Is there a setting I have to change? I have a canon hv-20 and I'm using the 1080i setting in the easy setup menu. Thanks for any help!

If they are identical then I can't help you. There is no reason why you would have to render. Which is that you have to render, video or audio or both? The render line is divided is divided into two thin stripes, upper for video, lower for audio.

  • CS4; do I have to render each sequence?

I have 7 sequences, and wonder if I have to render each one individually, prior to sending to Encore via Dynamic Link?

If the underlying media (sequences and/or clips) need to be rendered but aren't, FCE will have to render them during export. Not the ideal time to be rendering, as it will at a minimum increase your export time. Plus if you export unrendered material to a QT reference file, the rendered material will be put in the reference file itself. Not what a reference file is intended for.
You should investigate why your second sequence needs to be rendered if the material in sequence 1 did not need to be rendered. Does sequence 2 have a different sequence setting (easy setup)? Did you apply filters to the items in sequence 2? You mentioned adding graphics - if they are non-standard size and you allowed FCE to autoconform the sequence (#2) when you inserted the graphics clips, that could be the cause of the need to render everything.
With FCE, it is best to have all media clips be the same codec (DV or AIC) and frame size - it minimizes problems. Also render as you go along, not at export time.

  • Every time FCPX starts I have to render my project

I experience a really awful problem...
Every time I start my project I have to re-render the whole timeline.
I'm using the latest version of everything, also from the CoreMelt plug-in I'm using in this project.
As long as the project is short this doesn't happen, but after 2 minutes project lenght this happens all the time.
I have 64 GB RAM so this should not be the problem.
The plugin developer stated that this is a FCPX background rendering problem, but when I switch it off it's not getting better.
Then I have to render it manually, before I can edit/watch the project.
I have one of the fastest MaPro's available 12 core and I work on a SSD-RAID0 with highest Data-Rates...
So what is the problem and how to solve this??

    wolfgang,
does this happen if you delete the coremelt fx from the clips ?
I have never had this problem. But I did demo the coremelt plugs and they gave me nothing but H++++
Not saying they are the culprit... But if FCPx was at fault I think we'd be hearing more of it...
Try creating a fresh project with no core melt of other effects in it but with the same clips.. Then render the timeline. Quit FCPx and relaunch and see if the problem persists...
    If it does
    Try deleting
    /Users/YourFolder/Library/Caches/ EVERYTHING FCPx
    /Users/YourFolder/Library/Preferences/ EVERYTHING FCPx
Reboot with shift held.. Then log it.. Then reboot normally

  • When I drop anything into the timeline I have to render it to view it.

I am working with 2 sequences in one project. In one sequence I can drop images, video clips, text onto the timeline and I can view it, showing a green line. No problem. I switch to the other sequence and every time I do anything to the timeline I have a red line and have to render each and ever clip to review the work I just did. I don't understand why the two are different. Any suggestions? Thanx

#28 Having to render every clip in the timeline
Shane's Stock Answer #28: When I put a clip in the timline, I have to render it before it will play. Why?
Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.
However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.
Once you do this, you’ll need to create a new sequence. This is because the sequence that is already in your new project is setup for the typical default setting of DV/NTSC, or for the settings of your last project, which might not match what you are currently working with. So delete SEQUENCE 1 and create a new sequence:
This new sequence will contain the settings you chose in the Easy Setup menu, and should match the format you captured.

  • Why do I have to render all of my HDV 1080i60 MultiCam Sequence

I have two HDV camra angle's in my multicam sequence.
I did realtime cuts between them but why do i need to render the whole sequence. I have half an hour of HDV, that takes along time. It also take's hours to render a portion of the video that i sent to motion for titling. This is really slowing me down.
Do you always have to render a multicam sequence?

No it wouldn't have to render except for effects that aren't real time.
The problem with HDV is it's not an all "i" frame format. Only 1 in 15 frames is a whole frame, the rest of the frames only contain the difference between the frames before and after (sort of)... but if you don't edit on an i frame, the video has to be rewritten in effect, creating a new GOP structure. (Group of pictures with an i frame every 15... in long gop anyway... there's short gop too.)
Most all other codecs are all i frame codecs.. every frame's information is there... so it's easier for the computer to deal with it.
DVCPROHD will create files about 4 times larger than HDV, but they're still small enough to play from a firewire drive... no need for a fast array.

  • Have to render every time I add text

    Hello,
I'm subtitling a large project using FCP7 and every time I add text I have to render it the text.
This is slowing down my workflow. How can I eliminate the rendering?

What codec does your source footage use?
The source footage was VOB that was exported to Quicktime using ProRes 422 LT
What codec is used in your Sequence setting?
In sequence settings the compressor is set also to Apple ProRes 422 LT
    What are the RT settings?
Render Control Settings: Filters & Flame Blending Selected. Frame Rate and Resolution 100% Coded same as Sequence Codec. Quality Normal. Always use best quality is deselected.
What are you using to create the text?
    Just the FCP Text Generator.
If you are using external titling software, what color space and format are the files saved in?
    Nope.
Where is the source footage located on your computer?
On an external drive, and the project file is on my internal hard drive.
What Mac model are you using, which version of Mac OS X, what CPU and how much RAM?
    iMac from 2006, 10.5.8 2GHz Intel Core Duo 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

  • Do i have to render every time??

i have a simple piece of text in my browser (named the default name "text") that i use over and over in lots of sequences. i stuck a drop shadow in and now i have to render every time? is that right? i didn't have to render before; is there a way to just render the one time?
    thanks!

Create your title, put it in and empty timeline, but do NOT render it.
    File>Export>QuickTime Conversion.
Set the format type to QuickTime. Click on Options and set the codec to Animation. Set Colors to Millions+. Export.
When you bring this back into your project and put it over video in the timeline, it will still have to be rendered to composite over video, so I'm not sure it will gain you anything.

  • Why do I have to render all the time?

This just started, never had this problem before. Everytime I make a small edit/corrrection/level change etc. I have to render the audio.Otherwise I get that beep sound on the unrendered audio portions.
Why is this. I was before able to edit and not having to render every second.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Glad to help. Note that audio filters added to a clip will add the equivalent of additional tracks. Some filters add the equiv. of one track, others add more.
IOW, you could have realtime audio playback set for 4 tracks, only have four tracks in the timeline, but still hear that annoying beep-beep-beep as the TL plays back through clips with filters added. Simply make the realtime audio tracks playback number larger by one or two tracks at a time until the beeps go away.
Also note that you add more tracks of real time audio playback at the expense of RT video playback. Many editors will edit video first, until video is locked or nearly locked, then add more tracks of realtime audio playback before they start working on the audio. Then change the number back to 4 or 6, or whatever, after the audio work is finished.

  • Do I have to render Livetype footage

    Hi,
I made a simple text animation which will be shown during a video. The project settings are pal 4:3 pixel aspect 1,42. When I use the animation in a pal anamorphic project it needs rendering. Is this normal?

LiveType renders a QuickTime .mov file using the Animation codec. If your FCP sequence is set to anything other than this, you will have to render.
There's no need to render a .mov file in LiveType using the Render Movie command, simply import your LT project file into Final Cut Pro.
Pal 4:3 does not have a 1:42 pixel aspect ratio. Thats 16:9.

  • Should I have to render a basic clip?

When I drag a clip into the Timeline, I have to render it before I can see the video on playback. I've never had to render basic clips before, meaning no filters or effects have been applied to the clip. I recently started shooting with the Canon XL 2, which I know is quite hi-res. Could it be a function of the new camera. Has anyone experienced this before?

Welcome to the discussions, Rex. You do no need to render if you have no effects. If you have to render, there is something wrong.
Ctrl-click on your sequence in the browser. Select Settings... What does it say? Ctrl click on your clip in the browser. Select Item Properties/Format. What does it say?
Unless these both match exactly, you will need to render. Also, try loading your clip into the viewer. Check the motion tab and make sure that nothing is changed in distortion or basic motion or opacity or speed or etc...

  • Capturing 24p, and have to render every clip.

Hi all. Thanks for your time. After reading all the 24p articles in here, I thought I had it straight: I shot 24p normal (16:9) on an xl2, and captured it on FCP 4.5 using the "DV NTSC 48 kHz Anamorphic" setting for Capture as well as for the Sequence Preset. However, I still have to render (red line) ever time I bring a clip into the timeline! What am I doing wrong?? Please someone help, and thank you for your time.

You shooting in PAL land? You have a PAL camera????
Stating the obvious, but thought I'd get that out of the way...
Do us a favor... find the item properties window for the CAPTURED clips and read it down for us.
Then... Apple-Zero the sequence you've created and read down THOSE settings.
    Thanks,
