Do I have to run os x lion to sync icloud to all devices

I have upgraded to iCloud but it is not syncing automatically to my MAC.  Do I have to have os x lion to do this? I can't seem to get os x lion to download. It just sits there.

You will need Lion on your Mac (specifically version 10.7.2 or greater) before you can install ICloud on it. Lion does download and install, millions of people all ready have done so, be patient (it can take hours) or go to an Apple store and let them do it for you.

I just reformatted my laptop (it's like new now). When I plug in my iPod/iPhone, in the Photos section, I don't have the option of choosing iPhoto to sync albums to my devices. What do I do so I iPhoto becomes an option in iTunes?

I didn't have iPhoto so I had to purchase it from the App store but that didn't help. I think the problem is because my devices still think they are synced to the previous version of my mac, but I don't know how to get them to sync with the new setup.

  • HT1369 dO I HAVE TO RUN THE WIFI CONFIGUATION BEFORE SYNCING MY IPAD TO ITUNES ON THE PC?

I cannot setup my wifi connection at my home. Therefore instillation cannot complete. Does that mean i cant sync it with my pc.

    What Wi-Fi setup?
What specifically are you trying to accomplish?
Syncing an iPhone to a computer does not require a Wi-Fi or any Internet connection for that matter.

  • HT4759 can I upgrade from snow leopard to current version of Mountain Lion on my Mac?  So I can use icloud on all devices?

Can I upgrade from Snow Leopard  -  OS X 10.6  - on my current Mac to Mountain Lion  -  OS X 10.8.2?   Or even up into IOS?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
As your Mac is running Mac OS X 10.6, first open  > Software Update and install Mac OS X 10.6.8. This update will add the App Store, so open it and try purchasing Mountain Lion. If your Mac is compatible, the computer will start downloading Mountain Lion.
While your Mac is downloading Mountain Lion, you should make a backup of your files. Also, check if your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
If your Mac isn't compatible with Mountain Lion, see if you can use OS X Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949 If it's compatible, call Apple to purchase Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

  • TS1967 Ok so how do I get back all the cds I added to itunes? I have them in my ipod, if i sync they will all be lost...

I added a lot of cds and now they are gone from itunes. How do I get them back?

Are they still on your computer but not in iTunes - if they are then you should be able to add them back via File > Add To Library. Otherwise, if you don't have a backup of your content then you will need to find a third-party program that can copy them back from the iPod and onto your computer.

  • Just installed a new Airport Exteme.  Set up was no problem however we have  3 IPads and 1 Mac laptop and cannot get all devices to access Internet. Every reset of the airport gives a different combination of devices allowed access. Any ideas as to why?

Just installed a new airpot extreme with a modem to use as a wireless system. Setup was successful however with 3 iPads and one laptop we cannot get all devices access to Internet. Each reset of airport extreme results in a different combination of devices that successfully connect. Any ideas as to why?

    Well, this is interesting,
Let me tell you coulpe of things I noticed:
    - Are you using LEAP as the EAP method? some config examples illustrate configuriong using LEAP with WEP keys. Forget this and use WPA2-AES.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps4570/products_configuration_example09186a00801c40b6.shtml
    - in some AP configurations (AP1 for example) I can see that:
    wlccp authentication-server client any method_Users
This means that the wlccp client authentication will use the method called method_Users. Let us see what is configured with this method:
aaa authentication login method_Users group Users
This shows us that the method method_Users uses the server group named Users.
let us see what is configured withe the group Users:
    aaa group server radius Users
NOTHING!! it is empty!! so when a client tries to connect it will try to autheticate it against the radius server but the radius server group that it needs to check is empty.
so I think you need to either use the correct method under which the server is configured with the wlccp statement. OR you need to configure the method_Users with correct user group that contains a server.
Check and let me know if that works.

As long as it meets the minimum technical specifications, although the more above the minimum you have, the better the experience.

  • I've wasted the entire weekend upgrading to Lion to use ICloud, only to find iC is a joke.

I thought, from what I read in the hyped advertising, that all my email a/c's would be in iCloud and sync betw my iMac/MBP/iPad & iPhone.  NOT SO.  I never used mobile me, but it forced me to transfer my unused mobile me a/c to iCloud, in order to bring iCloud up.  Than, no ability to transfer any of the email a/c's I do use over to iCloud from On My Mac.  I read something about iCloud not handling POP email a/c's; but it isn't even handling IMAP accounts.
iCal calendars have been a frustration trying to get them to sync between the iMac and mobile devices (and, Yes, everything has been updated to lates os).
iTunes is encouraging back up to iCloud, but most of what I have, particularly email accounts and calendars, aren't accepted by iCloud.  So, the only sane thing I can do is stay syncing with iTunes and shutting down iCloud on all devices.
There insufficient detail in the help dialogues to resolve any of the problems I've encountered so far.
So, I wasted weekend to do all the upgrades which included spending 5 hours on the phone with tech support do to various problems post upgrade to Lion.  Instead of getting a great new service, iCloud, I got dark rain cloud.
Apple, I hope you're going back to the drawing board to make iCloud a real productivity tool.

I thought, from what I read in the hyped advertising, that all my email a/c's would be in iCloud and sync betw my iMac/MBP/iPad & iPhone.  NOT SO.
Where, anywhere, does it state that iCloud will keep "all your email a/c's" in sync?
    It say's, and I quote:
    Mail that delivers. Free.
When you set up iCloud, you get a free me.com email account. iCloud automatically pushes new email messages to all your devices, so your inbox is up to date everywhere you check it.
How could you interpret that to mean all your existing, non-me.com, external email accounts?
Than, no ability to transfer any of the email a/c's I do use over to iCloud from On My Mac.
Er, yes. You can do that if you wish. It's a called drag and drop between mailboxes. Not hard.

Did it occur to you to look at the iCloud Support pages? They're pretty comprehensive.
Apple, I hope you're going back to the drawing board to make iCloud a real productivity tool.
Or maybe, you could just read about the service you're signing up for, and not expect it to do things it was never advertised as doing?

  • How does one continue to use Mail on the early MacBook Pro, Model 1,1, that is not upgradable to Lion?  I have been running iCloud on my iPhone (OS5) and iMac (Lion) along with the MacBook Pro (OS Version 10.6.8)

How does one continue to use Mail on the early MacBook Pro, Model 1,1, that is not upgradable to Lion?  I have been running iCloud on my iPhone (OS5) and iMac (Lion) along with the MacBook Pro (OS Version 10.6.8) since November until now.  Mail will no longer download on the MacBook Pro and keeps asking for my password.

Mail should still be usable with your machine - but you'll need to update the settings to conform to the requirements of your system. Check with your ISP (like ATT, etc.) for the settings that will work with your Mail. Once you've updated this, you should be able to email like before.
For example, my ISP required that I go to Mail Preferences/Accounts and make sure the details conform to your email settings.
I have no idea of what your ISP is or what the settings might be, but this is likely the source of the problem.

  • I am running version 10.7.5 on my MacBook Pro. Can I upgrade irectly to Mavericks or do I have to upgrade to Mountain Lion first, then Mavericks

I am running version 10.7.5 on my MacBook Pro. can I upgrade directly to Mavericks or do I have to upgrade to Mountain Lion first, then Mavericks?

As long as your MacBook Pro is in the ML compatible list, http://www.apple.com/osx/specs it is compatible with Mavericks and you can go directly to Mavericks.

OK, well I would go with what Apple says in writing but if you want to take a trip to visit the Genius Bar that won't hurt.
Good luck, I'm 99% certain  you will find I was correct but please let us know.

ps: sorry for my english :S

You apparently are using a version of OS X you did not purchase using your Apple ID. Although you can download Mavericks you cannot install it over your current system. You must repartition your hard drive, then reinstall the version of OS X originally installed when it came new from the factory. That would be on the installer discs that should have come with the computer. If the computer did not come with discs from the factory but OS X was pre-installed (Lion or Mountain Lion) then you can perform an Internet Recovery:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • If I purchase a brand new I-mac today do I have to run OS Lion or can I load Snow leopard?

If I purchase a brand new I-mac today do I have to run OS Lion or can I load Snow leopard?

Just faced that question, and the answer should be that you can run SL on the latest iMac.
(Our scenario:  Bought 3 iMacs in August.  Was surprised -- and relieved! -- to see that they arrived with SL installed on them, and grey system restore disks.  One of the machines was DOA.  Futzed around with it for 6 weeks trying to get it to work, decided it was dead, drove it 4 hours to the nearest Apple Store.  They gave us a new iMac, which when we got it back, turned out to have Lion on it.  Popped in one of the three grey restore disks that had come in August, installed SL, it works without any problems.)
