Do I have to subscribe to iTunes Match to convert old protected purchases to iTunes Plus?

I've been using the iTunes store since before it came out (in fact been using the iTunes player since before there was an iPod). So many of my songs are in the old protected .m4a format.
All the articles I've seen on how to upgrade them to iTunes Plus songs have said you have to subscribe to iTunes Match in order to do so. Surely this can't be the case? I already paid for the songs once, and am willing to pay an additional 30 cents to upgrade them, but I have to pay $25 for a service I don't need to have the privilege of doing so? I don't want to believe Apple would fleece me this hard, but it sure looks like it.

Hi,
You don't need subscribe to match.
Many posters have reported this problem. Have a look at the posts on this topic in the Itunes for Mac forum.
A suggestion made in some posts is that if you download the free single of the week from itunes store.
Can't comment any further as I have never encoutered this problem.

  • Do I have to subscribe to iTunes match to be able to import my own CDs to my library?

I have just imported a CD to the new iTunes and it will only appear in the Up Next list, and doesn't appear properly in my library. I have tried restarting iTunes, and it didn't work. I am wondering if I have to subscribe to iTunes match to be able to import my own CDs? I also can't see the album in iTunes to be able to add the songs to my iPod, is there anyway to resolve this without subscribing to iTunes match?

  • HT204053 my wife and I have different Apple Id's  but use the same Ipad   Doo we both have to subscribe separately to iCloud or can we share purchases?

How can we get our own purcahes on the one iPad please?

    Hi Shadow,
The apps are forever tied to the Apple ID that they were purchased under. Your iCloud accounts are also Apple IDs, so although you can sync the apps to your individual device via iTunes, you will be syncing them to the devices, not to iCloud.
Since you are still purchasing everything under one Apple ID, then I'm presuming that they live in a single iTunes library on your computer or Mac? If that is the case, then you would just want to:
Hook up a device to the Mac or computer
Select the device when it shows up under devices
Once selected, the Device Profile screens display to the right - click on the Apps tab, and select which ones you want on that device.
Also check all the other profile pages to make sure they are set up to sync the things you want to sync to that device.
On the info page, you will see that you can sync Contacts & Calendars via iCloud or via iTunes. If you want a single source for contacts & calendars for both of your devices, sync them via iTunes. If you want your own sets of contacts & calendars, sync them via iCloud.
Do you have iCloud set up on the computer or Mac? If so, which iCloud account are you planning on using?
Some of the decisions you will want to make will depend on how you have your computer or Mac configured in conjunction with iTunes. One Apple ID, but one or two User Accounts for the computer or Mac? iCloud on the computer or Mac? What do you want to share and to not share?
    Post back with any questions.
    Cheers,

  • I have an iPhone and just goy I pad but no computer I'm trying to synch them together but having trouble with iCloud and I can't seem to subscribe for iTunes match from either devise

You first have to subscribe to iTunes Match through iTunes on your computer and have your music library in iTunes uploaded/matched before you can enable it on your iOS devices (see http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/).  Without a computer you won't be able to use iTunes Match.

  • I have just subscibed to itunes match, but seems to have only moved songs that I have purchased from itunes. Those songs have a cloud next to them and some have a cloud with an exclamation mark inserted, when u click on it to play it it now says can't fin

I have just subscribed to icoud match but am having difficulties. It says it has moved all my songs to the cloud but the cloud symbol has seemed to only appear by the songs purchased from the itunes store only, (this is on the desktop where I originally setup my itunes account) and some of the cloud symbols have an exclamation mark in them, so if I attempt to play them now, it says it can't find it!!!. Also, the main purpose of this exercise was to create space on my iphone and ipad............so once I have succesfully uploaded all my songs to the cloud, do I then delete all my songs off my devices to ceate that space or does that happen automatically?

Once you successfully add you iTunes library to iTunes Match, you go to Settings>iTunes & App Store on your iOS device and turn on iTunes Match.  Your iTunes Match library will then appear on your iOS device.

  • HT204406 How do I access greyed out songs on the ipod touch after subscribing to iTunes Match?

I have just subscribed to iTunes March and now I cannot access my songs on the iPod Touch. The songs can be seen but are greyed out. ANyone know what I need to do?

Connect the iPod to its syncing computer and restore via iTunes.  If iTunes asks for the passcode and yu can't enter the passcode or you do not have the syncing computer, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • HT4914 Do i have to subscribe to itunesmatch in order to delete a song thatwas downloaded and should not have been purchased?

Do i have to subscribe  to itunes match to remove two songs from icoud?

You don't have to subscribe, you can hide songs via your computer's iTunes so that they don't show in Purchased for redownloading : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919 (with apps and iOS 7 I've been needing to log out and back into my account on my iPad after hiding them on my computer for them to then be hidden on it, not sure if the same applies to music)

  • Impossible to access to itunes plus

    Hi guys,
since a few days ago i became unable to enter in itnues plus.
Every time i click on iTunes Plus link i receive an error that sound like this:
"Can't complete the iTunes Store's request. It may be busy. Check the connection or try later."
The strangest fact is that i can enter in every other links, like iTunes U, Complete Album etc etc.
I have problem only on itunes Plus.
What can i do to solve the problem, or at least to understand where is the problem?
    Bye

Saluti

  • Artwork for iTunes Plus songs

Hi. My iTunes Plus songs don't come with album artwork and I can't seem to add artwork to them. When I open the artwork viewer on the bottom left-hand side of iTunes it says "Album Artwork Not Modifiable", and when I try adding artwork by going to Get Info it doesn't work either. Is this happening to anyone else? Maybe Apple didn't include the artwork feature in their iTunes Plus songs or something.
    -Eric

yes, I know that all iTunes songs are supposed to come with artwork (in fact, all my iTunes purchases that are not iTunes plus have it), but my iTunes plus ones don't for some reason. In fact, as I said above, I can't even add artwork to them because the Get Info tab says that "Album Artwork Not Modifiable". I can modify any other info for the songs (like the comments field, genre, album, grouping, etc) and I do have read/write permissions for the song files and the folders they are in. Also, all my iTunes plus purchases are upgrades (I had the 128kbps DRM versions before), and before I upgraded, the artwork was modifiable.
One more thing: I just noticed that I can't add lyrics either. I can put them into the lyrics field, but they don't stay there (I put them in, press OK, then Get Info again later and they're not there).
These two problems (can't add artwork and can't add lyrics) happen with all my iTunes plus songs.
    My iTunes plus purchases are:
Beastie Boys - Ch-Check It Out
Beastie Boys - So What'cha Want
    Coldplay - Speed of Sound
    Coldplay - The Scientist
Roxette - It Must Have Been Love
The Rolling Stones - Waiting On a Friend
The Rolling Stones - Start Me Up
The Rolling Stones - Beast of Burden
The Rolling Stones - Miss You
The Northern Pikes - She Ain't Pretty
Nat King Cole & Natalie Cole - Unforgettable
    Heart - What About Love
The Beach Boys - Surfin' USA
The Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice
    The Beach Boys - Kokomo

  • Anyone notice it depends on what songs your downloading .. iTunes Plus ?

I can't see this mentioned in the posts I have read but some iTunes plus downloads download really well.. and others don't.
    Take Enigma.. downloads really fast.
Paul Van Dyk .. Have been waiting days for it to work..
Anyone else seeing this strange behaviour.. ?

My problems appear to be somewhat "alphabetical"--but I also am guessing the more "popular" tracks downloaded okay for a reason. I'm having trouble getting less mainstream tracks to download at all right now----GRRRRRR! Things seem to be somewhat alphabetical--but--I've got a few David Gray songs (from an album I downloaded!) that are trying to prove me wrong! Others in the mix include Dianne Reeves, The Band, Steve Miller Band, and Simply Red. They simply won't download for some reason! GRRRRRR!

  • ITunes Plus music re-download

Some of the music I have bought on iTunes are not available to re-download without the DRM in the iTunes Plus menu. only a small portion of the stuff I have downloaded is there. is there a way to see the entire catalog of things I have purchased?

Oh sorry, yeah I can see my purchases in my purchase history, and can make a playlist and stuff, but that's not my problem.
In the iTunes Plus section of the iTunes store, (the area where you can re-download previously purchased songs and album without DRM) only a couple album show up as stuff I can re-download. I want to be able to look at all the stuff I have bought in the iTunes Plus menu.

  • Will iTunes Plus stream ALAC quality to my iPad?

Hi! I'm thinking of subscribing to iTunes Plus. I import my CD's to iTunes in ALAC (Apple Lossless) quality.
So I want to know if iTunes Plus will be able to stream the lossless codec? Or will it be downgraded to 256kbps AAC?
    Any thoughts?

I fixed the problem myself.  By wiping all the iPad content and doing a fresh resync, this got all my music back including the songs which were not syncing before.
Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase all Content and Settings
Upon reconnecting to iTunes, I was prompted with the option to restore from the last backup.  I selected my latest iPad backup, and then let the restore complete.  Resync'd apps and music as well.  Bingo!

  • How do i purchase iTunes Plus songs?

I have no interest in upgrading previous songs to iTunes+ but any new songs i purchase I would like to purchase at the higher 256 kbps. I don't see anything about iTunes plus anywhere in iTunes

Just to set expectations properly, the majority of tracks in the iTunes Store are in iTunes Plus format now, but you may still find some in the old, copy-protected format. iTunes Plus tracks will have a "+" icon next to the price. Apple has said that they expect to have the rest in iTunes Plus format this month, though it will depend on the record companies.

  • I subscribed to iTunes Match and would like to sync my music on multiples devices that have different Apple IDs within the same iCloud family.

I subscribed to iTunes Match and would like to sync my music on multiples devices that have different Apple IDs within the same iCloud family.
Can someone indicate the way to proceed?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can't use family sharing or multiple Apple IDs with iTunes match.
ITunes match is only attached to Apple id that you used to subscribe.
