hello!
i was wondering how i can use itunes to xfer music while disconnected to the net.
as it is right now (itunes v7.1), i get a message "cannot access itunes store", and will not bring up the usual menus on the left side of the itunes window where i view my music, vids, photos, and playlists.
needless to say, i dont even HAVE and itunes store account. it would be lovely if i could disable itunes store, but hey, i'm sure thats been made impossible.

ipod g5 (w/vid) Windows 2000for some reason when itunes first installs a new version, it opens up to the iTunes Store. Since you don't have net connection, its going to error out.
But the fact that you can't see any of the other items, I would recommend redownloading iTunes (and Quicktime to be sure) and reinstalling it and see if that helps.
Just for the record, can you click on the Library icon? -
How to fix "use itunes to restore" problem on my iPod Classic 160G?
When I try to connect my iPod to iTunes on my PC, there was an alert to restore. I follow the direction. Stage 1 of the restore process was successful. But the Stage 2 of the restore process, when the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar in off backlight work so long time. Then I shutdown my PC. After that my iPod does not work. When I re-connect to PC there are appear "use itunes to restore" and "do not disconnect" alternately.How to fix the problem?

Help please! I just want to be able to sync my iPod without having to manage. My playlists have also gotten too big! I don't have time to edit, and I don't see my iTunes can't just fill with random songs.

2. In the main iTunes browser window, select Music, then select "Sync music."
3. Select a playlist, artist, genre, album, or your entire music library for your music sync settings.
4. When you select the checkbox labeled "Automatically fill free space with songs", iTunes will automatically sync as much music as possible to iPod shuffle. If the playlist you selected contains more music than iPod shuffle can hold, Autofill will sync a subset of the music. The iTunes LCD will display the sync progress and notify you when the iPod sync is complete.

I have not clue what to do. I just got it last night. I tryed to put songs on from my window meda player but the songs don't appear on the stupid ipod.
Itunes isn't stupid - it just needs a little patience. In iTunes go File/Add file to library - and then browse for the music you want and click OK. Itunes will import it. Once it's in your iTunes library it will put itself onto your iPod when you plug it into your PC. You can change the way your iPod synchronises with your library - just read the help files. It's all there.

In order to load your iPod you will need iTunes, it is a great program and it is free.
Windows Requirements

Do I have to use iTunes to get songs onto an iPod?
I've tried using iTunes before, and I'd rather not use it.
I would like to hook up an iPod to my computer, have it act like a removable HD, and simply drag and drop my songs there. Is this even possible?
I have loads of CDs and don't wish to purchase songs via iTunes or make use of it library functionality.
Note I haven't bought an iPod yet.

No, you don't have to use iTunes, but it's the only program that's guaranteed to always have iPod compatibility.
Offhand, here's a few I can think of, Google will give you more info on all of them. None allow you real drag and drop, although some come close.

I have been using itunes on my windows 64 bit laptop for years but since downloading the latest itunes 10.7 update whenever I opened itunes the error message 'A required itunes component is not installed. Please reinstall itunes (-42404)'
Itunes would still load and play music in my library and I could still sync my ipod but when loading a CD itunes would not recognise the album/tracks and I would need to type them manualing after uploading.
I have just bought the new iphone5 and went to sync the phone with itunes. itunes recognises the iphone when plugged in via the usb port or when wi fi is turned on but itunes will not allow the phone to sync.
I spent over an hour the other morning speaking to apple customer support and have ensured I have administer right and that UAC is turned off.
I was taken through msconfigure and adjusted the startup tab but still no joy.
In the end I was e-mailed instructions on how to uninstall and then reinstall itunes and component parts.
Now that I've uninstalled itunes when I try reinstalling I get the following messages during the download.
The 1st message is;
'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
When I click ok the next message that appears sometime later during the install is;
Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) Failed to start Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
The options I have are to abort, retry or ignore. If I retry the same message comes back and if I abort or ignore the download continues and I then get the following message:
'Apple Application Support was not found. Apple Application Support is required to run itunes Helper. Please uninstall itunes, then reinstall itunes again. Error 2'
After attempting to reinstall itunes only some components were installed however itunes would not open.
It would appear many people have experienced problems with this latest download!'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -

I recently had to reinstall iTunes on my PC (Windows 7) and lost most of the library. I restored with what I had on my hard drive on the PC, but there is much more music on my iPod classic than is in the iTunes current library. I'm worried that if I synch now it will delete the extra music from my iPod, some of which I don't have available to re-rip etc.. Will this happen, or is it safe to synch more content without losing from the iPod what is already there but not in my iTunes library on the PC? Thanks in advance for any help.
Are you now using a different username from the one you used prior to migrating? If so that is the reason for the problem. You might, then, give this a try:
To fix Home folder permissions
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
Press RETURN. You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed. -

Help ! I have recently used iTunes to subscribe to some Podcasts flawlessly. Then suddenly, I could only view the latest downloaded Podcasts in my iTunes account. Connect your iPod to iTunes and check on the Device/Podcasts pane; there are several options for which Podcasts are "kept on/left on" the iPod at each Sync. Are they set the way you want? For instance, if the setting is "to keep on the iPod only new Podcasts", that would cause older Podcasts to be removed.
If you need to chnage the setting, you will need to Sync the iPod afterwards for the change to take effect. -
