Do I have to use WiFi to watch Amazon instant movies, or can I use 3G?

I'm staying in a hotel with very slow WiFi, and I'd like to watch movies from Amazon on my iPad 2.  WIth WiFi, the movie buffers every few seconds, but when I try to watch using Verizon 3G, I get a message that I have to use WiFi.
I'd appreciate any help any of you can share with me.
Thank you in advance.

Thank you for replying to my question. The fact that Apple has limited movie watching to WiFi rather begs the question why pay the considerable extra amount for a 3G enabled iPad.  Oh well, I'll use my Kindle Fire, which doesn't need to load up every few minutes...  Apple had better pick up its game, or Android tablets are going to sweep this market.

  • Do you have to have an internet connection to watch a rented movie from itunes?

I rented a movie from itunes and tried to watch in on a plane.  But a message came up that itunes could not connect to the internet.  I did not realize you had to have an internet connection to watch a rented movie.  Is this correct?

I have experienced this on several occassions and after being unable to watch three of the six movies I rented from iTunes on the return leg of a six hour flight, I finally decided to explore a little more to determine how to "fix" this. I have yet to find a definitive answer but at this point I am 100% certain that you "need" an internet connection to watch a movie. If you have ever downloaded movies on your iPad and tried to BEGIN watching them in flight, imagine your frustration level when the "Content Not Authorized" message appears and you are SOL watching the back of the seat in front of you for six hours. On the initial leg of my West Coast trip, fearing this would happen, I started playing the three movies I might watch on the flight while in the terminal. This of course began the 24 hour countdown. I was rushed on the return leg and neglected to do this. Of course the three remaining movies could not be viewed because the "Content Not Authorized" message appeared.  Upon landing however I was prompted to log into iCloud and sure enough the movies could be played.
While an internet connection is not required to view movies once they begin, there is clearly some form of authorization taking place and required before they can be played. If you wait until you are cruising along at 30,000 feet, you are SOL and heaven forbid you are on a New York to Seattle flight in the middle seat of a 737 with no in-seat entertainment. It makes for a very long 6.5 hours.
The abursdity of this is simply beyond my comprehension. Once you download and pay for the movie (transferred from PC), shouldn't the iPad somehow be intelligent enough to know when you started the movie using its own internal clock or something? Isn't the whole purpose of the iPad to enable me to screw off on a 6-hour flight watching movies and avoiding work? The apparent oversight here is simply impossible to understand given how frequently this must occur. Ten years from now every flight while be equipped with WiFi and this issue will be a thing of the past but what an incredible limitation of an amazing piece of technology. I would be willing to bet that if Jobs had ever been screwed out of $15 for three movies because "Content Not Authorized" appeared on his flight I wouldn't be posting this.

  • HT1657 Do I need wifi to watch a rental movie?

I want to download movies on my laptop so that my child can watch on a car ride where we won't have wifi. Is this possible? Or must you have wifi to watch a rental movie?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You will only need an Internet connection to download the movie, once it is downloaded you can watch it anywhere.

  • Get playback error when try to watch amazon prime movies on ipad

Trying to watch amazon prime movies on my ipad, have instant movies app but keep getting playback error. What am I doing wrong?

the issue is DRM the same thing would happen with remote desktop
the DRM block the video stream from being sendt to a source where it have no control with if it's copied and in the proccess removing the DRM
it's 100% intentional and really because it's not really "legal" to do that
some people repport that the play called VLC works so that mean that player remove the drm itself which is again breaking the law

  • If Ihave downloaded a rented film, do i have to have access to wifi to watch it

I have rented a film to watch which i dowloaded yesterday.  Fo I have to have wifi connection to watch it?

Not sure that it is that simple.  I downloaded some rented films to my iPad to watch on a flight to the US. Once airborne I could not start to watch any of them. Very frustrating. However before my return flight I started to watch each when I had an internet connection - just a few seconds of each. On the flight I could continue to view each of them.
Not sure that Apple make this clear when you rent a film. If they do I missed it.

Do I need wifi to watch a rented movie

It depends. If your download the file onto your device, then no, you shouldn't need wifi. But if it's a streaming service, like I think netflix is, then you will need wifi.
I'd read the fine print and ask questions of your service provider and see what service you're using and how it works

  • Trying to watch Amazon Prime movies on iPad 2.  After about 4 minutes it stops and to continue I have to go back to Amazon, search for movie, and resume.

When I try to watch an Amazon Prime movie on my iPad it stops the movie after about 4 minutes of viewing.  I am sent back to the iPad main screen.  To continue the movie I need to go back to Amazon, click Prime Movies, locate what I was watching and click resume.
I don't have this problem wihen watching the movies on a TV or computer.
What can I do to fix this?

  • HT1657 Do I needed wifi to watch a rented movie

Hi, I'm going to Spain in a few weeks and wanted to rent some films to watch while I there, gonna take my ipad and use that to rent on. If I rent the films while in England can I watch them while in Spain? And do I need wifi or are the films downloaded to my ipad

The films are downloaded to the iPad's Videos app. As long as they have been fully downloaded to Videos before you go then you should be able to watch them whilst offline.

  • Why do you need WiFi to watch a downloaded movie?

I bought a movie on my Ipod touch and watched half of it. Then when I went to finish it, It would not come on due to "no Wifi connection". Why do I need WiFi connection to watch a movie I just downloaded?

There's downloading and streaming. And often hard to tell the two apart.
Downloading means that the files are stored on your device, streaming means that you simply access them, but need to be on the net to do so. It sounds like you were streaming a movie, not downloading one.
