Do I lose perpetual license if I upgrade to creative cloud?

If I upgrade to creative cloud do I lose my license to my copy of CS5.5? So a year later when my membership expires and I decide that it is not for me, I have lost everything? Thanking you.

Hi Mlhuntr,
You continue to own and could still use the prior version if you canceled your membership.

  • CS6 Perpetual License Only - so why a Creative Cloud Directory

As the title mentions I am running CS6 with a perpetual license. Have never signed up for the CC version or any other product.
So was a little surprised when trolling through my directories - bored sitting on a conference call - I discovered a Creative Cloud directory in the x86 file structure for Photoshop CS6. The directory is empty and it has the creation date of the last CS6 update. Now I did have problems getting the update installed took multiple tries and really not convinced it really took - but it works fine after a manual download. The thought that ran through my mind was the Adobe Installation Manager was messed up (not the first time) and really was trying to install the a CC version update. Hence the Creative Cloud Directory.  So is the normal?
By the way the Creative Cloud directory does not show up in the x64 bit version

You could be right - and if that is the case raises more questions and an ethics concern.
The question would be - why only the x86 version and not the x64 version - which leads me down the path to believe that the Adobe Installation Manager is the culprit.
But if true that the versions of CS6 and the Cloud version are the same with not only features being unlocked by the product key but also bug fixes - and this could lead one to believe that Adobe was using bug fixes as well as new features as an incentive to move to their subscription model - while new features are an OK incentive - bug resolution, in my mind, is not an ethical way of doing business, and I am sure Adobe's Cloud plan would not stoop that low

  • Does upgrading to creative cloud invalidate my perpetual cs5/cs6 license?

We currently have 5 iMacs and 1 PC using CS5 / CS6 on a perpetual license however we are looking in to upgrading all users to creative cloud, would this invalidate the perpetual license's we currently have or will they be unaffected?

    Hi Matt,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Upgrading to Creative cloud will not affect the perpetual license products.

  • Upgrading to Creative Cloud. What happens to my CS4 License?

Say I have CS4 installed on Computer A. Then I upgrade to Creative Cloud. I install Creative Cloud on Computer B and Computer C. If I am using Creative Cloud on Computer B or C, will I still be able to use CS4 on Computer A?

will I still be able to use CS4 on Computer A?
Yes.  Your perpetual license won't expire.
You may keep using CS4 alone or along side Creative Cloud if you wish.
You may install CC or CS4 on up to two machines at one time.   The main difference is that CS4 can be installed on only one platform depending on which was purchased (either Mac or Windows).  However, CC can be installed on both platforms.

  • If I upgrade to Creative cloud, then later cancel, will my current licences still work?

I have licences for Illustrator and Flash now.   If I upgrade to Creative Cloud, and then at some point in the future cancel my subscription, will I still be able to use the Illustrator and Flash that I have now?
I don't mind reinstalling them, but I woulnd't want to switch to Creative Cloud and then find that I was then committed to monthly subscriptions forever, even just to be able to use what I have now.

Yes, you maintain all licences for individual products you own outside of Creative Cloud. So if you were to cancel your Creative Cloud membership, you'd be able to reactivate Flash and Illustrator with your license information associated with the invidiaul products.

  • I am still in the stone age and using CS4.  Looking to upgrade to creative cloud.  Will I have any issues and what can I do to keep the files I have created in CS4 active with the new software?

I want to continue to use my CS4 created projects while upgrading the Creative Cloud.  I have an Imac, Ipad, Iphone 6 and Macbook Pro.  Am I going to lose or not be able to bring those .ai files from CS4 into the new software?@

  • Existing subscription automatically upgrade to Creative Cloud?

I have an existing Premiere CS5.5 subscription. I called Adobe on Thursday the 10th of May to ask about moing to Creative Cloud.
I was told (after being put on hold for 20 mins while he went and found out) that my subscription would automatically upgrade to Creative Cloud on Friday the 11th and I would get an email about it on Friday.
I have heard nothing, my account still shows the 5.5 sub, I dodn't even have the option to update the single product (Premiere) to CS6 as I should under the terms of the old type subscription.
Has anybody else had similar experience or managed to resolve it?

    Hi DKD2000,
Since you no longer want the older software you can just uninstall them. The Creative Cloud Membership works through the website https://creative.adobe.com and licensing is done using your Adobe ID (same one you use to sign in to the forums here). If you go that webpage I gave, sign in with your Adobe ID and then click over to the Apps section, clicking any of the Download links should bring up a program called the Adobe Application Manager. This will help you automatically download and install your CS6 apps.

  • When I open CS6 it will no longer open - it prompts me to upgrade to Creative Cloud - WHY?

I do not want to upgrade to Creative Cloud - I have CS6 and and happy to NOT have a monthly charge. Now I can't open CS6 because it will only open if I upgrade

Whoa that sounds crazy, interesting. Sounds like the licensing just got crossed up or something.
Have a look at these links and see if maybe you think it might help:

Otherwise maybe Jacob will have some troubleshooting suggestions, gasp unless an actual Adobe person shows up and has some insight?
    Kidding:
Maybe we are at the faithful point in the time and space continuum where all previous Adobe versions are set to go dead and a mass forced cloud or nothing is upon us from the Cash Cow empire? Just kidding (?) Fun times ahead regardless that can be assured.

  • Need to Prevent Adobe Application Manager for upgrading to Creative Cloud

I have successfully packaged Dreamweaver CS5&CS5.5 via Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition v2.1 and after a successfully deployed via SCCM Dreamweaver runs perfect. Unfortunatly upon the first launch of the icon on the desktop of "Adobe Application Manager" it's self upgrading to Creative Cloud.  This is a problem.  In this enterprise deployment I have updates set to manual and my AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat is set to the below which should be preventing this to my understanding <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Preferences> <Suppressed>1</Suppressed> </Preferences>

Thank you for getting back to me, currently my work around
is to have the deployment delete the two “Adobe Application Manager.lnk”
icons from both the desktop and the start menu for each OS version.  Not
exactly how I would like to have to do it however my
“AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat” does not seem to block Adobe Application
    Manager from updating.

  • Have Adobe Standard CS 5 (Student), and would like to upgrade to Creative Cloud (Non-Student) - won't accept my serial number for special pricing for existing users

I currently use Adobe Standard CS 5. It was bought with the Education discount. I would like to upgrade to Creative Cloud and see that they have special pricing for existing customers that use past versions of Creative Suite. I am no longer in Education, so I will have to buy a full version. This is fine, but it won't accept my serial number for the discounted pricing. Is there something else I should be doing?

It's important to keep in mind that the picture files are NOT stored in the Organizer. They are not stored in Lightroom or Bridge either...
The organizer is based on a catalog which stores the pictures properties, mainly the location of the pictures on your drive(s). It's the same idea of catalogs in Lightroom, and the nice thing is that Lightroom can convert organizer catalogs to its own format. The most obvious way for you will be to use Lightroom.
Bridge is a file browser which is a different way than to use catalogs.
