Do I need a Mac Account to publish my website using iWeb

I don't have a .mac account because my internet service provider gives me some webspace. Can I use iweb to create websites with the service I have? or do I need to purchase a mac account and use their service?
Thanks,
gil

You can use any server space you have. Here are some tips:

I published a website using iWeb.  I began using iWeb to create a second site and now I can't find my original site's work on my Mac.

If you're publishing directly from iWeb 3 to your FTP server then you'll have the following in your accounts root directory:
    Site 1 folder
    Site 2 folder
    Site 3 folder
index.html file from last published site directling to the last published site.
If you want to keep Site 1 as the primary site you'll need to publish it one more time to the server so you get it's index.html file uploaded.
Now you'll have to publish Sites 2 and 3 to a folder on the hard drive and use a 3rd party FTP client like Cyberduck, YummyLite or Transmit  to upload only the site folder (and not its external index.html file with it).
The url to sites 2 and 3 will be:
    http://doman_name.com/Site 2
    http://doman_name.com/Site 3

  • Do you need a .mac account to use Mail?

I'm not able to use Mail, even though I'd like to. I don't have, or intend to get, a .mac account.
    Is the program otherwise usable?
I have a yahoo account. It would be nice to use Mail in order to send email using Yahoo. Is this possible?

You do not need a .Mac account.
It works with any POP or IMAP email server.

  • IWeb - do you need a .Mac account?

I have plenty of web space with my ISP - can I use this with iWeb or do I need a .Mac account? Thanks.

Just a guess . . . but the check to see that the startup page is the right name. It may be index.htm or index.html or default.htm. You can ask your ISP tech support.
If this is the case, I'd suggest you create an alias (or link) to the page that your iWeb is generating, so that you won't have to do that everytime -- you'd just have to copy the files.
    Hope this helps.

iCloud does not provide website hosting. You will need to find another website hosting service - there are many to choose from - and upload your site there. How you do this depends on what version of iWeb you have.
In order to upload your existing site in iWeb '09 and above:
Click on the name of the site in the sidebar: the publishing settings pane will open. Set 'Publish to' to 'FTP'. Enter the name of the site and a contact address (if desired).
In the 'FTP Server Settings' section you will need to know the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. Your site will be published in a folder with its name at root level of the server, with an index.html file at root level (which will overwrite any index.html file which may be there already). The 'Directory/Path' field may need to include a path such as '/webspace/' or 'ht_docs/' - this is dependent on your hosting service and they should tell you this. If you want to publish within a folder you can add that to the path.
You can then click the 'Test connection' button so that iWeb can check that it can get access to your server space. You should enter the URL of the site in the 'URL' field so that rss feeds and internal links have the correct address.
To publish using an earlier version of iWeb:
From the File menu choose 'Publish to a folder'. You should create a folder somewhere convenient specifically for this and choose it when publishing to a folder: this folder should not contain anything else.
You now need an FTP program (FTP is the 'protocol' used for uploading) to upload the contents of the folder to your server.Cyberduck is free (donation requested): Transmit is $34 but I think better. You will need the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. You can drag the contents of your folder to your webspace, or create a folder there and drag the contents to that if you prefer.
Some facilities that iWeb provided when hosted on MobileMe will not work on other servers: comments on weblogs and photos, password-protecting your site (some hosts may provide this), searching in the weblog, and a hits counter (again, some hosts can provide code for this). Slideshows in iWeb will work on other hosts than MobileMe (they use different code when FTPing which doesn't depend on scripts hosted on MobileMe as the MobileMe version does); however there is an issue with the 'buttons' which control the slideshow which are images hosted on me.com - these depend on images which used to be hosted on MobileMe. The poster 'Old Toad' on the Apple Forums has provided a workaround, described at http://oldtoadstutorials.net/No.26.html.

I want to use the Web module to publish to the a website... What kind of server do I need to be able to publish my website?

You don't need a server, you just need a web hosting package such as the ones from GoDaddy or many other hosts. You then send the web gallery directly from LR to your web space.
As you're asking such basic questions, it might be best if you read articles like this and see if a friend or colleague can get you started.

  • How to Publish Multiple Websites Using Domain Masking

Let's say I have a mobileme acct called applesoranges, but then I decided not to use this name for my website. Using iweb, I have created a different website called blueberry.com, and was able to figure out how to set up my personal domain and then mask appleoranges so that only blueberry.co, appears.
I now want to add another website called strawberry.com. With one mobileme acct (applesoranges), is it possible to host 2 separate websites, each of which is masking the original mobileme acct? How does one set up 2 separate websites using iweb (each masking the original acct name)?
    Many thanks!

For every MobileMe account you can only use the personal domain name option and CNAME only once. You enter your first domain name into your MMe account and then go and set up CNAME forwarding at your domain registrar to forward to web.me.com. For any other sites that you create, you need to go to web forwarding. You set-up the other domain names by using masked web forwarding and point them to web.me.com/username/sitename and by masking these will just show your domain name address and not your MobileMe/iWeb url.
Make sure that you separate out your sites, as it will be easier. You can either duplicate the domain.sites files and have one site per a domain file or use a program called iWebSites to help you manage multiple sites.
You also have the option of not using MMe and you can publish to a folder instead and upload directly to each domain hosting space. This gets away from the problem of how to forward sites to iWeb/MMe.

  • I created a website using iWeb, then published to MobileMe, how can i publish to iCloud?

I created a website using iWeb, then published to MobileMe, Mobile Me is now closed, how can i publish to iCloud?

iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • Can I make another website using iWeb,then publish it to a different server through the SMTP panel on iWeb

Can I make another website using iWeb, and then publish it to a different server through the SMTP panel on iWeb, even though I have a website published on mobile me, can I just use the SMTP engine to publish a different site but to a different server, that's the question I'm asking. I'm hoping for a quick reply. Thank you for your time in reading this.

Yes.  You can do it one of two ways:
1 - select FTP Server in the Publish To menu (click on the site folder to get to the options) and enter the FTP address, username and password and publish as you would if using MMe.
2 - select Publish to Folder and publish. Use a 3rd party FTP client like  Cyberduck to upload the site files to there server using the FTP address, etc.

  • Do I need a .Mac account to use iWeb?

I took a seminar about iWeb, and was under the impression that I could create web pages and then publish them on my own website, without subscribing to a .Mac account is this true?
I may subscribe to .Mac later to separate my two businesses, but I'd like to build a couple of pages, first, and then build my .Mac site later.

You are absolutely correct. You do not need to be a .Mac subscriber to use iWeb. You can make your pages in iWeb and then use the "Publish to Folder" command to put your website files in a folder that can then be uploaded to your own web hosting service.
The are certain features, though, that only work with .Mac. These include the hit counters, search, comments, slideshows, etc.
If this information is useful to you, please do me a favor and mark my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using the little buttons in the title bar of this reply. I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

  • Do you have to have .mac account to publish iweb?

Our church has it's own site (northbullittchristian.org). We love iweb and want to publish to our website, but don't have .mac accounts. Is this possible? What do we have to do to accomplish this? Use easy to understand terms, none of us are very website literate.

    Hi,
all you have to do in iWeb is go to File=>Publish to a folder.
After that is done it works exactly like it works with what you're using now to create your website I guess...
I guess you're using an FTP application to upload the html files to your server(or host=>where the pages are stored to be seen from the web)
If you're not using an FTP application yet have a look at the following page for instructions
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWebFolderFTP.html
Please note that publishing to a folder some features (like: comments, pasword protecting, hitcounter and that's it I think) will not work. However for all of those features there are alternatives on the site I previously linked to.

  • Do i need a .mac account to use i web?

i already have a domain and was wondering if i can use iweb to upload to it. or does iweb only work with .mac accounts
    thanks

When iWeb starts, it prompts for your .mac account. You can choose 'no' and then the main window of iWeb will be opened. After you finished preparing your web site, choose 'Publish to a folder' from menu. You will get all of the html's, script files, etc, in the folder you selected. What you have to do next is to copy (or ftp) the published files to your web server and your web site will be there. Enjoy!

  • Do I need a .mac account to use os x mail?

    Just wondering. TIA.

No, you don't need a .mac to use mail.app. It will work with standard POP or IMAP email servers.
Check your ISP's help pages. I'm sure you will find the settings needed to set up mail.app. If they don't specifically show how to set up your mac, use the settings shown for Outlook Express.
