Do i need a magic mouse ?

hi all, i have a few quid burning a hole in my pocket  LOL.
I continue to be amazed at all the clever stuff that is built into my Mac Book Pro, particularly the Track Pad, until i looked in the Apple Shop and saw a Bluetooth Mouse which looks to be MAGIC, can it do more than my Track Pad does already ?, a mouse is probably much easier to HANDLE than the track pad and if it is as good as Apple say it is, is it worth £46 ?
tim

You don't need a Magic Mouse. Your trackpad will do everything the mouse will do, or at least it will do more things than you're likely to use it for. If you love the trackpad and you're planning to use your MBP with an external keyboard, then you'll also want an external cursor control device, and Apple's external Magic Trackpad is a natural for someone who's used to the MBP's trackpad.
I recently bought a 27" Apple Cinema Display, an Apple cordless keyboard and the Magic Trackpad. I wouldn't dream of ever using a mouse again.

  • Magic Mouse Scroll Fail

    Hi,
I have just bought a Magic Mouse, and am trying to install it. My MBP recognizes it, I can move the cursor and have use of the buttons, however I cant scroll. At All.
When I go into System Preferences>Mouse, I only have two sliders, Tracking Speed & Double Click Speed. When I click on 'Setup Bluetooth Mouse' it just says 'No Mouse Found' while the searching wheel continuously spins.
Im running Snow Leopard, and my previous Mighty Mouse worked fine until the scrollball called it quits, which is why i bought a new magic mouse, which doesnt scroll.....

If you are running 10.6 like your profile says, you need the Magic Mouse Software Update for Snow Leopard.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL950
The link above requires you to have 10.6.1 before installing the update so you might want to just move up to 10.6.2
You can update your machine to 10.6.2 and change your profile also.

It appears to. See this Web page:

that mentions "native support for the new multi-touch Magic Mouse".

    A few hours later…
    I just found Mouse Wizard:
    http://www.samuco.net/web/node/23
I will say that when I downloaded the demo the center button didn't work, but a very quick & courteous reply from their tech support suggested:
In terminal, can you try entering this command: "rm ~/Library/Preferences/.MagicalWizard.plist". Then, relaunch MouseWizard.
I did this & now I have center button nirvana! (Mouse Wizard also supports a version of the squeeze button (they call it fourth button) and squeeze/bloat gestures.)
So far so good--it's made me much happier with my magic mouse.

  • Magic Mouse: Why Does It Need to Be Clicked When Restarting or Booting from Shutdown to Get Detected All the Time?

Hi. I'm using Snow Leopard via USB external drive (the hardisk is blank- testing something with Leopard). When I start the late 2009 iMac and boot with the Option Key, I need to click the Magic Mouse all the time so the mouse can be detected and move the cursor to the Snow Leopard icon ( in its boot menu ). After the Magic Mouse is detected, it's good from there.
Is this normal or there's something wrong with the Magic Mouse? The keyboard doesn't need to be pressed though to be detected, it's detected each time.
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless, Rev. 21:4

I cannot see why you should have to click the magic mouse in order for it to be detected ... unless you have changed the batteries.  See my notes which cover the points made in your other recent post.
Batteries.  Here are a few notes I've put together.
Whether you use regular or rechargeable batteries you should buy the best. Discounted or unbranded batteries are more likely to give a depleted performance and may be of irregular size, often leading to connection problems.
Apple’s own brand, Eneloop and Energiser appear to be the best. Rechargeable batteries for the standard Magic mouse are unlikely to exceed eighteen days before needing a recharge although the mouse itself can be a limiting factor.  I have seen reports that some Logitech mice vastly exceed this.    Apple may suggest more in their sales blurb but this is a realistic expectation.  The benefit (if you are organised) is that you can always have charged batteries available.  Regular batteries will give you between 25 and 35 days before they need to be replaced. Note.
Never mix old and new batteries or rechargeable and regular.
The notes above are based on my personal experience, not shutting down my machine and using it for around four hours per day.  Note.  Monitors do not always faithfully report battery strength, particularly the rechargeable ones.
When checking your mouse or keyboard batteries ... Turn off the device. Remove the batteries, Clean the terminals both inside the battery compartment and the batteries themselves. Replace or renew both batteries. Turn on the device.  You should get a blinking green light if the device is paired. Click the mouse to activate it.  The green light becomes steady.

i need help with my new magic mouse

  • More preferences for magic mouse needed.

The magic mouse is really a nice piece of hardware, but the software is lacking.  Here are a couple of problems I have and suggestions that would make my life a lot easier.
There scrolling feature is nearly useless in text editors.  It is always causing undesired scrolls of the text windows and various list boxes.  I end up turning off the scroll feature when using a text editor. I would like to see application specific preferences for the mouse scroll.  Allow user to enable mouse scroll on an application by application basis and set various scroll options on an application basis allowing me to disable scrolling for desired applications.  This would eliminate the need to open system preferences every time I switch apps.
For text editing applications, I tend to disable scrolling, but I would like to retain the scroll feature, but restrict it to a center portion of the mouse so it must be activated using the middle finger as one would do with a wheel mouse.  To accomplish this, the mouse surface could be treated as three separate zones, left, center and right.  New mouse preferences would allow user to specify if the mouse surface was treated as a single zone, or as multiple zones.  User should be able to configure the mouse for individual applications to enable the multi-zone feature.

Think back.   Was your mouse turned off at the point when you downloaded Mavericks.

  • HT2845 do I need to pair the magic mouse each time I switch it off.

Do I need to pair the magic mouse each I switch it off, or should the mouse be left in the on position all the time.

It should pair automatically when switched back on. Having said that, I never turn BT devices off unless I am gone for a long time. BT devices automatically go into a low power mode after a short time of non-use.

  • Spilled coffee on my magic mouse. Now it won't scroll at all. Do I need to buy a new one?

Spilled coffee on my magic mouse. Now it won't scroll at all. Do I need to buy a new one?

If your coffee had cream and/or sugar in it, after removing the batteries it would not hurt to slosh it a bit in warm (not hot) sterile water to rinse out the residues of the cream and/or sugar. Then let it dry thoroughly - might take a couple of days, even with a fan blowing on it. Do not use supplemental heat, such as a hair dryer or even direct sunlight, to speed up the drying - things with plastic parts can be damaged by excessive heat.
You can get sterile water at most grocery stores - the stuff for steam irons is perfect. Sterile water does not contain the usual lime and/or calcium that can deposit out when the water evaporates.

  • NEED Middle button for Magic Mouse in Bootcamp!

    Hey guys!
I recently purchased a Magic Mouse, and my oh my is it AWESOME! Problem is that it hadn't occured to me there was no middle button and I DESPERATELY need a middle button to use Solidworks under Bootcamp. Anyone know of any drivers/programs/hacks that'll enable middle button for me? Else I've effectively wasted $70, and being a student, that hurts.
PLEASE let me know ASAP! I'd hate to have to get one of those generic mouses.
    Thanks!

I am pretty sure that this is not possible, try finding a version of the software you use that is compatible with Mac OS X?

  • I have a magic mouse that needs a usb receiver.  what do I buy?  Is it specific to mac?

I have a magic mouse that needs a usb receiver.  is this a specific mac part or does a universal work?

I suspect you do not have a Magic Mouse.   The Magic Mouse is an Apple product and does not need a USB receiver.   I guess you have a Logitech mouse and a USB receiver should have been supplied to you by the store you bought it from, if it was indeed bought from a store.
You could always contact the manufacturer.

  • Magic Mouse needs multiple clicks to respond

My Magic Mouse has been having issues today: about 20% of the time, the computer doesn't respond when I click, but if I click again right after that, it works. Changed the batteries, but that didn't help. Anyone else notice this, or have any ideas on how to fix it?

    Hi captfred:
I wasn't - honest!!!!   I have not posted a new thread in awhile.  You used to be able to mark a thread "solved" without awarding points -  I have more than I need!

  • HT1846 I have a windows 7, and i'm trying to make my Mac's Magic Mouse work on my PC... do i need to download this BootCamp? or should i install a driver especially made for Windows 7?

Is there any way that i can have my Magic Mouse to run on my PC (Windows 7)?
i am looking for drivers online, but i don't want to install something that Apple may not approve of. I'm sure if there were such a driver, then Apple would have provided it; unless i have missed something.

when one makes the bootcamp driver disc in bootcamp on osx it builds a cd with apple tested drivers for the hardware for windows

  • Magic Mouse stops clicking randomly: need to right click desktop few times.

For some reason, randomly, my Magic Mouse will stop clicking/registering clicks (left or right/anything but movement) and I'll have to right click on the desktop 1-2 times for it to "come back to life"...it's very strange. I've tried readding it, etc. to no avail...?

I ended up here after experiencing the same problem (seemingly random and intermittent inability to scroll with Magic Mouse or trackpad when using Firefox) and searching Mozilla and Apple support forums. There are a few separate reports in both communities that refer to the issue seeming to exist only when using Firefox with a Magic Mouse. There are, of course, other threads that don't have that specific combination, but the original post is not a unique occurrence.
In my own case, I am experiencing this problem on two MacBook Pros. I did not have this problem until recently. Also recently I bought a Magic Mouse but have no idea how significant that is (the trackpad also becomes unresponsive on both machines). It does seem unlikely to be coincidence, but still could be, of course. Like most people now, I guess, I gave up manual updating of Firefox a while ago to spare myself the constant reminders and so I don't know what version exactly I had when this started but it is now 31.0 (although Firefox is just waiting for me to quit in order to update to 32.0).
If I quit and reopen Firefox, all is well for a while but then the problem returns. I can still scroll by dragging the scroller in the scroll bar (thankfully not completely gone, as yet) and appreciate the comment about using the up arrow and down arrow keys, which I hadn't thought to do. It seemed to be only one of my MacBooks for a few days, but now seems to be both. Somewhat bizarrely, while concluding this post, Firefox on both computers has resumed scrolling without, as far as I can recall, a restart. I'll aim to give an update after a day or two (as so many final posts say...)

  • Replacement magic mouse would not pair; need

This problem is solved; am starting this discussion to maybe save someone time and trouble.  Problem began when I dropped my magic mouse and ended its life.  I was surprised it was that fragile but that is another story; I use is too much to give it up.  Bought a new magic mouse and tried to install while the old mouse was still recognized by the computer.  I don't really know if this was the problem but the new mouse would not pair, and then my Mac Pro would not even recognize or find it through system preferences.  So I clicked the Apple and went to "about this mac" / "more info" / "system report" and it was listed under bluetooth as connected but not paired.  Went to bluetooth in sys preferences and tried to delete without success.  Went back and forth trying to delete and then decided to try a restart.  Voila!  Checked system report and was not listed.  Went to sys preferences to set up bluetooth mouse and was set up and paired in seconds.  I do not understand what happened; can't explain either but it seems that I cleared a cache in the restart that allowed me to start fresh.  Once that was done was good.  I wasted an hour or more being very frustrated because before the set up had been so easy for the first magic mouse and my magic track pad.  Hope this helps someone.

    DUDE! YOU ROCK!
I had the same issue. I've just spent an hour trying to pair and repair, restarting, etc.  Then i found your post about the replacement Magic Mouse. Mine started dropping signals after a year so I decided to buy a new one, but I thought the old one might be interefering because I could not get the new one to pair.  I did what you did in system preferences to set up a new mouse and it worked like a charm!
    Grateful for your post.
