I changed to a Mac From Windows. I tried to install on mac but the serial number is not correct for the product. Do I need a new serial number?

Frmontoy1 please be aware that it is not possible to request a platform swap for Creative Suite 5. Platform swaps can only be requested for the current version of an Adobe Creative Software title.

You don't need a new serial number, you need your previous serial number to use, again. You can only use the redemption code, once, and need to have recorded your serial number, somewhere.
The usual place to get your old serial number back is by logging into www.adobe.com and clicking Manage account then a few more clicks into your product lists and you'll see all the serial number for your registered products.
If you never registered your LR copy with Adobe then they won't have your serial number. I don't know if there's a way to get it back or not. You can try doing the help and support option on adobe.com and get to where you Still Need Help and do the Chat option and see if they have your old serial number stored somewhere even if you never registered it.

if you have your serial number then all you need to do is download the Lightroom installer and install the program. Use your existing serial number. If you don't have your serial number, but registered Lightroom with Adobe then you can login to your Adobe account and get the serial number.

By researching farther it appears I was supposed to "deactivate" the Adobe Acrobat XI prior to uninstalling.
The new installation seems to think I am trying to install the program on two devices. I can understand why Adobe would do this since they would require another program to be purchased instead of one program being used on two devices for the price of one program. Unfortunately, now I have a program I can use on neither device.
Is there a way to "deactivate" the product now that it has been uninstalled? If so, perhaps I could get a 'new' serial number to install the program to my laptop.
And thanks again for the responses... Both are windows 7 machines but the SN will not work twice.

Why do you need a new serial number? The existing one will still work.
Just re-install Lightroom , re-enter your existing serial number and you're good to go.

I know pc and macs need different serial numbers, but my account only provides one serial number, the one I used on to install on my PC. How do I get another serial number for my mac?

You would have to buy a new serial number (and version) if you wish to use CS6 on both the PC and the Mac. You can swap to having the Mac version but that will leave you without the PC being able to run the software.

Should I have just turned it on and plugged it in to charge without using it? The article isn't entirely clear on that. Or can I keep setting it up and using it as long as it's plugged in until the light on the power cord turns green (before unplugging it and allowing the battery to run down)?

Else, then there is only alternative can be utilized if you have the proof of purchase ( do not have the proof of purchase, ask your reseller to provide you the proof of copy ) or the order number if bought from the Adobe itself or the email you accssed to buy the product from the Adobe as there would be transaction of the product listed under, then you can get the help with the serial number in following two ways:
First contact your reseller and ask them to provide the help as it was bought from them on the basis of the proof of purchase or ask them to help you with the proof of purchase if you do not have.
