Do I need a new Wireless Card?

Please bare with me while I tell the whole story...
Ever since I installed Leopard, my MacBook has been having a big problem. 25% of the time, when you closed the lid, it would crash instead of going to sleep. It seemed to even be getting worse. So last night, when I was leaving an appointment, I closed my MacBook and put it in my bag. I talked to my customer for a few more minutes then I headed home. It was rush hour so it took a while. I stopped at the post office to check my PO BOX, and I had mail yay. When I got home, I looked through the regular mail to see if I had anything. I brought my bag upstairs, checked my email and IM's on my Mac Pro. Finally, about an hour and a half after putting it in the bag, i opened my bag to take out the macbook and plug it in. It was on FIRE. Hotter than it's ever been before. The fans were running full speed, and it was hard to hold. So I turned it off and let it sit for a while. When I turned it back on, my airport card was showing as turned off, and I couldn't turn it back on. Clicking 'turn airport on' wouldn't do anything. I had this happen once before and a few minutes later it came back on. But not this time. A day later, and several restarts and shutdowns later, still nothing. I did to an archive & install, which was something I was planning on doing anyway to try to solve the crash on lid close problem. Oddly enough it doesn't seem to be crashing when I close the lid anymore. So did the archive and install fix the crash problem, and did the crash problem cook my airport card? Or did I have a defective airport card all along and was that causing the crash on close problem? I also ran the Hardware Test several times and it found no problems at all. I'm also 3 months out of warranty. I know where to get a replacement card, they are only about $60, but is there a way for me to verify for sure, that is what the problem is?

So forget the whole thing.
I got my airport working again. How? By unchecking "Ask to join new networks". Location by location, unchecking this option would instantly turn AirPort back on. Looks like Leopard still has some bugs to be worked out.

  • Do I need a new grapics card?

I have a factory(somewhat) Deminsion 3000 from Dell. The only thing that I have upgraded on it was the memory (512MB to 2gigs) I play a game which I think most people are familiar with, World of Warcraft. Now my question is related to FPS. The computer starts and loads decently, but for all of those who play WoW, hearthing is moderatly fast and so is loading screens, but general moving around is sluggish at best with all setting on LOW (average of 3 FPS while moving and 3 FPS standing still). I was wondering if a new graphics card would help fix this, and if so, what do I look for? I was also wondering if a new graphics card would make my youtube video's run faster while having WoW minimized, and possibly streaming with Xfire?
    Thanks,
    Zef

Your biggest bottle neck is your processor. Although WoW does use the video card, and a new one would help, it's just not worth it imo. WoW is very processor heavy and that is what will give you the biggest increase in performance.
I don't think the computer has a PCI-Express port, so you'd have to get a PCI video card and you might even need a more powerful power supply....all things that are not worth it.
You'll be MUCH better off getting a new computer and upgrading the PSU and video card on the new one. (Unless its a gaming PC out of the box)
Youtube 'speed' is generally based off of your internet connection, not the video card. As far as streaming, you'll need a new video card and processor before you can play and stream efficiently.
I don't play WoW anymore, but I can tell you how big of a different the processor makes vs. a new video card. I used to get 10-12fps mid fight / Dalaran with an old AMD 5000+ dual core, 5gb of ddr2 and an Nvidia 260gt video card. I picked up the Intel i7-970 6-core, 6gb of ram, and the same Nvidia 260gt... but this time around, my fps didn't drop below 60 no matter what I was doing.
On a side note, I guess that explains how people can be so bad at WoW. Getting 3 FPS while moving must make it hard to play well...
Although I do work for the Geek Squad, all comments and opinions are my own.

  • HPE-270F PC - need to remove wireless card. Has wires attached to top of cage. Need to discuss

Need to remove wireless card but has three wires attached and two are cttahed to top of case.
Assume they are for receiption. Instatting TV tuner and need to slot.
Any issues cutting and removeing these wires. Can send photo if needed to resolve issue

As you guessed, those are antenna wires. Don't cut them just pull them off the card, wrap each in a piece of electrical tape and push them up and out of the way. You might want wireless again someday. The connectors can be removed by turning 90 degrees and just disconnecting from the nipple on the card. I do see this is a desktop. Maybe a picture would help.

  • I need a new video card any suggestions?

Okay people I am in the market for a new video card and I need to choose between ATI and Nvidia. I plan to get either something in the X800 series or in the 6800 series. My budget is $400.

I cant complain with mine. I got it on sale for 245$ @ Compusa.  Its quiet, never goes above 63C(? I havent seen it that high anyhow).  However there is that problem with the vpu( full cpu usage or something when watching some media formats???). I would go X800 if you want to spend it all, or 6600gt AGP and something else like an mP3 player.

    Hey mates ,
I need a new powerful sound card for PC Works LX520 Speakers
I need the best compatible sound card for this speakers .
I'm using the speakers for Trance , hard rock , games
Please pick me a special sound card , But not expensi've .
    regards ,
    I-IEMA

Preferably you would use a n AGP based graphics card as your radeon 9600 is. The PCI-x slots have lower bandwidth and would be slower.
    Possible Upgrades
    Radeon 9800pro
    Radeon 9800XT
    Radeon X800XT
    Radeon X850XT
    nVidia 6800GS/GT
    nVidia 7800
All of which are in demand and short supply at present due to the new RoHS recycling requirements.

  • Need recommendations: New graphics card for HPE-400y

Hi!  I'm in need of a new graphics card, but I don't know which one is best for my computer.  My computer is a Hewlett Packard  HPE-400y.   Click here for specs!
My computers has all the original parts except the PSU and HDD. I recently changed the PSU to a Corsair CX430.  The current hard drive is a WD Caviar Black 2TB.
I use my computer for Guild Wars 2, Maya (models and animation), Zbrush, Corel Painter, and Photoshop.
My current graphics card (Radeon HD 5450) has issues playing Guild Wars 2. The FPS is 30 or lower if I try to play the game with medium or high settings. The FPS also drops when I'm playing the group PVP event known as World Vs World. I often have to have the graphics on the lowest setting in order to get 30 -45 FPS.
You can find the Guild Wars 2 requirements here: GW2 official wiki -- requirements info
Click here for Maya 2015 requirements
Click here for Corel Painter requirements (When you get to the page, click on system requirements)
Any and all help is appreciated!  Thank you in advance for your advice and help!

    Hi,
You should be able to get a double wide card in your PC.  Length may be a problem due to all of the cables. If the space below the optical drive is open then you might try to stuffing the extra cable lengths into that location.
BTW-- very nice photos.  Not many will go through the effort to do so.
Consider trying one of the below graphics.
MSI NVIDIA GTX N750 TI and the MSI GTX N750 TF  Both of these graphics cards are significantly faster then your existing 5450.
Know what the return policy is before your buy.
You have an excellent Corsair power supply. I would prefer that you had a 500 watt PSU so that the higher performing graphics cards could be tried.  This NVIDIA GTX 660 specifies at 450 watt minimum but the 12v amperage from your Corsair CX430 is more than sufficient.  It might be worth giving it a go.  It's about 50% faster than the above two graphics cards.  I typically don't recommend that graphics cards be used with PSUs below the graphics card manufacturer's minimum requirements but the Corsair CX430 should work.

  • Need a new wireless router with switching

I would like to purchase a new wireless router with 4 port switch. I have an Intel iMac with 2 pc's and have spent hours trying to configure my existing Linksys router to work properly and need to make a change. I have not been able to use iChat with Powerbook users and have had other problems as well and have given up...
The recommended router list on the iChat website does not specifically mention wireless routers with 4 port switching...
Does anyone have any suggestions for a router which is easy to use and configure?
    Thanks,
    cj

    Hi Herpestes,
If you mean which method of opening the ports should you use for those computers it will be the UPnP setting found in the Adminstarion tab
Log on to the Linksys by typing 192.168.1.1 into a web browser
Type admin as User ID and Password.
    Go to Administration
    Enable UPnP

  • Installing new wireless card x120e

I know about the silly whitelist'ing of devices, and I've read about hacking the bios, but is there a universally acceptable way to just turn off the whole whitelist'ing completely?
I have a full height Intell 5300 card I want to use, then put a new Broadcomm Crystal HD half height card in the original wireless card positition.
The Intel card doesn't work at all (whitelisted I assume) and I'm not sure if the Broadcomm card will suffer the same fate (arrives tomorrow).
So is there a supported work around to this terrible vendor locking whitelist?

From what I understand, no, there is no easy or sanctioned method of installing your choice of mini pci-e cards.  Part of it apparently has to do with EMI validation, and anything outside of what they've tested can't be validated.  What this means for your Broadcomm Crystal HD half height card I have no clue, but outside of looking for a tool to roll your own update to remove the whitelist (or just add your cards to it, I don't know), you'll have to risk a hacked update to get what you want.

  • New wireless card won't work.

I have an HP Folio 13-1020us, it was suppose to have a intel card in it but it didn't.  So I took out the broadcom it came with and tried to replace it with a Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235
And it wouldn't boot, it said it couldn't recognize the wireless card. Is there anything I can do to get it to work. I upgraded the ssd and memory but the wireless card is a no go. Or do I need a bios update?
     Thanks for some feedback.

    Hi,
Page #2 of the following manual shows you supported wireless cards:

Do I need a different graphics card to run final cut?

No need to worry. You'll be fine with the GPU in your iMac. I've been using a G5 iMac (w/ a second display) since August 2005, and I've had no problems.

  • Is iTunes needed with new SIM card?

Is it necessary to sync with iTunes before a new SIM card works in an iPad? I'm just thinking about what to do if I got a SIM card while abroad for roaming and obviously wouldn't have a computer to sync with. Thanks.

    bigsy66 wrote:
Thanks for the welcome and reply. I suppose another question along the same lines is if I swap over SIM cards I have already registered and used with different providers, does that also require a sync with iTunes?
For example, I live in Belfast and am in Dublin quite regularly. Although the iPad is not yet officially available in Ireland (Republic of), it is here in the North and I will be trying to get a something that will let me roam cheaply and easily in both places.
I just read a question and answer from Apple and Mossberg regarding your question. Apparently, SOMETIMES, you have to connect to iTunes if you switch SIM cards. They gave no clarity as to what may or may not require you connect to iTunes.
I think, from what I've read, you have to connect the first time, but you may not have to do so in subsequent switches.
