Do I need a particular printer to print from iPad 3?

Hi All,
I'm about to buy a wireless compact printer so I can print in the car - now I'm reading about 'Airprint' and HP printers only?
Is there a certain make of printer / software that I need to purchase in order for it to work or will any printer work??

Envy 4500 not printing entire page from iPad

We recently set up a new Envy 4500 for wireless printing only - there is no computer connected to it. Set up went fine and the iPad found the printer easily. I did not install anything on the iPad to make it find the printer. It prints well but is not printing the heading at the top 1/4 of the page from a PDF. Any ideas?

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see that the ENVY 4500 was setup fine for printing from an iPad, however, the top 1/4 of the page is not printing. Nothing is needed to install on the iPad to allow this printer to print, with that said, you can install Apps that can give you more printing options.
Try first, updating the printer and the iPad.

Have you tried printing from different applications, for example, Notes on the iPad? To see if this is an issues with the AirPrint driver, the printer or the file, open Notes and type a couple words, hit the Share button and send the print.
Let me know about the updates and if Notes print fine.

Pages will not print to Airprint from Ipad

I can print using AirPrint when I print things from Safari or photos stored on my iPad or from Numbers or an email attachment, but not from Pages. I've tried rebooting my router, "forgetting" my wifi connection and hooking it up again, I've exited Pages completely (so it's not running in the background) numerous times...nothing is working.
Strangely, Pages finds my printer just fine and goes through the motions of printing. It will tell me the usual "connecting to printer", "preparing printer", "now printing"...but nothing happens with the printer. It's like the connection between Pages and the printer gets lost somewhere. Pages used to print just fine before I updated to iOS 7. Whether that's just a coincidence or not, who knows. Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution?

I am certain, it finds the printer in Print Forte, but if I try to print an email I get the "no airprint printer found"

Laserjet M475DW won't print last page from iPad

It's all in the subject. The printer prints fine via the iPad PrinterControl app but won't print the last page of the Word document or Powerpoint slide deck. Since you can't choose which page to print from PrinterControl, I can't force the printer to print only the last page. The ePrint app looks like you can choose to print only the last page, but the pages shown on the iPad's screen in print preview don't match the actual pages of the document, so there's no control. Printing via the iPad's native email app gives crazy font size and overwritten text. Can anyone please help me? Thanks in advance.

You cannot save to Dropbox from Pages natively, but there is a workaround that allows you to use the Copy to WebDAV to get things to Dropbox:

Hp 6510 prints fine from laptop but only prints blank pages from ipad

Printer prints fine from my laptop but will only spit out blank pages from my ipad. It used to print fine from the ipad.

RESOLVED!!!!
I called HP regarding this issue, and was connected with a very nice woman out of India, Lola, who resolved the problem for both my Google Nexus 7 tablet running android 4.4.4 and also my iphone 5s. Its the printer, and its wi-fi connection, along with the app.
Here were the steps to resolve:
1. Make absolutely sure you dont have a cable going into your printer from your router or modem. Then make sure your connected to wi-fi if on your printer if you did. (If you had a cable connected, re-run the wi-fi setup wizard for your printer, preferably on the printer itself, not your computer.
2. Sounds crazy, but verify your wi-fi is actually on. Click on the wi-fi button on your printer, and you should also have a light that signals your wi -fi is actually connected (at least on the Officejet 6700 that I am using, it does).
3. Make sure you still have HP Eprint on your phone and/or tablet. Check that you have your settings correct in your HP Eprint setup options, including the email address you want to use for your account. If you don't, you will need to enter it, then click activate on HP Eprint. It will send you a code via email. Copy/paste the code into the HP Eprint setup.
4. Once you're sure you have your printer re-connected to wi-fi correctly, and no cables attached; resart your printer, and re-start your phone/tablet. Once everything has re-booted its time to test....
5. Test Printing: First test printing drictly from HP Eprint's app, selecting a file... then test using a webpage from your browser, to ensure its running correctly through Airprint (which is best, secondary is Google Cloud Print).
If you are still having trouble, re-boot everything again, double check your wi-fi on your printer, and that you have your settings correct in your HP Eprint from above. If that doesn't work for you, call HP at (855) 785-2777 and select HP EPrint for assistance.

You can still print wirelessly using a software print server like Printopia installed on your Mac or PC. Necessarily though, this means you need to have your computer running on the same wireless network as the printer:

Printing not working from iPad

Hi,
I bought this printer for my mother so she could print email, photos, etc... but while the printer was setup very quickly and the printer is being picked up by the iPad, printing is just not working, well mostly not working.
When in email client app, I select an email, and try to print it. I select the printer from the list and select print. A small dialog box appears saying 'Please wait, printing' (or something like this!), it dissapears and nothing gets printed.
When I select a photo, the same applies as the email client app.
I installed an HP app from the IOS stored and unfortunately, I could not use the "Document" function when taking a picture as it requires a 5M pixel camera and the iPad is an 2nd, maybe third generation, so I used the "Photo" option within that app and strangely enough it managed to print a document. Terrible waste of ink just for one "legal" document as instead of being treated as a document, it was treated as a coloured image and was way too detailed in regards to color but that's beside the point. The point is printing worked directly via the HP app but it won't work from the standard email client app or the photo app.
I don't know if it could have anything to do with it but the iPad has very little space left on it i.e. 470Mb out of 16Gb.
IOS is still V7 as I don't have enough room to upgrade to 8 which I know displays a "print queue" now as I've noticed on my own Ipad.
Any ideas why it's not printing from the standard apps and why it would work from the HP app?

Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I understand that you are having issues with the AirPrint feature of the iPad and it is not allowing you to print to the Envy 5640 printer.
I’ve included the document Apple AirPrint: The Apple Mobile Device Shows the Job is Printing but the Printer Does Not Print. It has some steps to try and determine why the iPad and printer aren’t playing nice together.
You can also use the Printing Over a Wireless Network with Apple's AirPrint FAQs document as it has steps the first document doesn’t have.
Please let me know the outcome.

If your HP 470 has the WiFi option, an iPad App like Print n Share may work for you.
If it does not have the WiFi option, you can connect it to a computer and share it as AirPrint over WiFi using a program like Printopia for the Macintosh. For a free solution for either Mac or PC, search the web for AirPrint Activator.

I need honest oppinions on EYE STRAIN FROM IPAD

I am planning to get an Ipad and I would use it lots to read.
Please tell me if you suffer from eyestrain, and also how long u read on it.
If you had KINDLE or other e-ink reader , tell me which one you think is better.

I can't comment on a Kindle hardware device but I am surprised to find that the iPad works well for me as a reader. I expected to miss holding a physical book and was concerned about eye strain. I find I must turn the screen brightness down quite a lot - particularly at night. You can do this directly in iBooks but I haven't yet found a way to do it in the Kindle app. WIth the brightness way down, it doesn't seem to strain my eyes.
The iPad's glossy screen can be a bit of a nuisance outside in the sun.
The Kindle store has loads more titles in it than iBooks but the shopping experience feels disjointed in comparison because you are sent out of the Kindle app to the website. Great thing about the iPad is that you can run both
As others have commented, the multipurpose nature of the iPad makes it a winner for me when compared to a fixed function reader.
